Johnson Memorial Health has earned the nation’s top distinction for patient safety with an “A” from the Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is an elite designation from a national, independent watchdog that sets the highest standards for patient safety in the U.S. This honor belongs to every one of the providers and associates at JMH who work each day to provide exceptional health care for our patients.
Great care starts here.
I've recently felt a shift to a healthier existence. Greenwood City Lifestyle celebrates one year with this January Health & Wellness edition, and along the way we've met so many amazing people. Folks that we honestly probably wouldn't have met if it wasn't for this incredible journey. Every day we're researching companies and beating the streets to find the best partners to provide content for our readers that might help them improve their lives. When we began, I never imagined we'd build relationships with so many businesses in the health and wellness industry, but as we started working on this edition, we were floored by the partnerships that we've forged.
As a local publication, we try very hard to support local businesses and in particular, the businesses with whom we've partnered. All-N-1 Detail handles our vehicles, Rees Restoration did our roof, and I only buy flowers from Steve's, but when it comes to wellness I was admittedly a novice. I've never really taken great care of myself; the idea of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" was embedded in my mind until I started learning more about our partners and the amazing things they're doing. It only made sense at that point to start trying the services they offered, especially because we write about them. And so, another type of journey began.
I've frequented LA Fitness several times a week but as I've gotten older, I've started noticing different issues, just little things that needed some attention. My wife and Publication Director, Amber, started seeing room for improvement as well, so between us we've used the services of most of our wellness providers. Sauer Dentistry has completely renewed my dental health, Alpha Omega has led the charge on weight loss and rejuvenation, Journey Health and Wellness, as well as Balanced Beauty, have worked with Amber on several areas, and she frequents Bayberry Spa for some well deserved pampering. Needless to say, when we recommend our partners, we have firsthand experience in their services. Now I'm not saying everyone will need or want everything we write about. But at some point, someone may need something, and our goal is to put these amazing businesses in front of you each month in hopes you'll check them out.
We want to thank our readers for an amazing first year, and wish you a happy and healthy 2025.

Megan and Dee Bonney, co-founders of AlphaOmega Wellness
Meeting patients where they are and helping them get where they want to be in primary care or struggles with addiction, depression or anxiety is the mission at AlphaOmega Wellness, assures co-founder Dee Bonney, M.D., and former emergency room physician. His wife, Megan Bonney, PMHNP, is the other co-founder at the wellness center.
From their Greenwood office at 1777 W. Stones Crossing Road, Dr. Dee says they provide three core services: wellness memberships centered around functional medicine, ketamine therapy, and health assistance with addictions.
Wellness memberships equal unlimited office visits during each month so AlphaOmega professionals can tackle each issue for each patient, he explains. "Our providers take an integrative approach to health concerns for each person, combining root causes with traditional medicine."
daily lives to maintain mental wellness and maximize the therapy’s effectiveness.
"We overcome addiction with faith, group therapy and medication," says Dr. Dee. "We want patients to succeed, so we provide encouragement, love and support, along with accountability and medication-assisted treatment."
The reason why Dr. Dee says he and Megan launched AlphaOmega Wellness during August 2018 was because he, too, had an opioid addiction. "I know what it's like to have to put your life back together after the consequences of addiction. I'll be the first to tell you it’s not always easy, but recovery is always worth it."
“We overcome addiction with faith, group therapy and medication.”
— Dr. Dee
For ketamine therapy, Dr. Dee says their specialists assess a person's mental health history and explain how therapy can help patients, sometimes reducing depression by 75% in three or four weeks. He says their IV ketamine therapy sessions are conducted in a calm, supportive environment. "Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes, providing rapid relief from symptoms," he adds.
Post-treatment, Dr. Dee says they focus on integrating benefits of ketamine therapy into patients'
To help people on multiple levels, he says they value all opportunities, often more as health coaches, to guide patients into new, positive trajectories in life.
Megan adds, "We explore the profound positive ripple effects on health and relationships that result from addressing mental health issues early."
During 2025, Dr. Dee says the AlphaOmega Wellness team will dial in on total body wellness, modifying their ketamine therapy as more options become available. "It's not mental health as much as it's brain health. If we get the brain healthy, other parts of life fall better into place."

Collaborating For Kids began in Greenwood more than 10 years ago and developed into four unique departments to walk alongside and assist children with their specific needs to reach their full potentials. The focus of this locally owned and operated business is recognizing each child is entirely unique in their personality, needs and possibilities. The goal is to see each child and family thrive.
CFK began small, but grew into a multi-building campus with services that staffers saw were needed.
Perhaps the clearest example of this organic growth came through the staff's First Steps program. This early intervention program in Indiana is designed to help children from birth up to 3 years of age. However, the CFK team stated they quickly saw many of those children they were helping still needed support and assistance even though they had aged out of the First Steps program.
CFK's three other departments are designed to meet these needs and care not just for the child they are treating, but the entire family.
The CFK Autism Department has two branches, one in Greenwood and the other in Bloomington. The centers are not only capable of diagnosing autism, but the teams also provide specialized treatment based on each child’s needs. The centers use Applied Behavior Analysis, which is considered the gold standard of care in

regard to Autism. This care is uniquely tailored to each child as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst assesses all the behaviors and environmental variables that could affect each child and creates a unique program based on their needs. Some children are only seen for a few hours a week, while others spend up to 40 hours at the center receiving highly specialized care.
A unique program born out of the CFK staff's work with children with autism is something they have aptly labeled the Transition Program. This program provides a physical space to prepare children who are ready to transition from their autism program and begin school. Here, the child can go to a place that is modeled like most schools with classrooms, teachers, other students, and even a schedule that mimics that of a typical school. This gives the child the unique opportunity to ease into the transition from highly individualized one-on-one care to a larger classroom environment. This transforms a change that is often incredibly jarring into one that
provides the child with the time and tools they need to succeed.
The final two CFK departments include the Outpatient Clinic and Mental Health department. In the Outpatient Clinic, children can receive multiple therapies including speech therapy, occupational therapy and even physical therapy. In fact, the clinic's team has seen children with sports-related injuries and provides them the specialized care other therapists sometimes cannot.
The CFK mental health department recognizes the full-family effect of children with special needs. Through the team's work, meeting the varied needs of children and families affected by special needs, their mental center continues to grow to care not just for the child being treated but also the siblings and parents. But the
treatment is not limited to family members, their licensed mental health counselors and psychologists are available to provide care for anyone in the area with mental health needs.

BALANCED BEAUTY MEDICAL AESTHETICS HELPS PEOPLE RADIATE THROUGH SKIN CARE
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON
A new year is a great time to consider putting 'facial balancing with biostimulators' into action, as a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses dermal fillers to enhance facial symmetry and proportion. Then there's also collagen stimulation and treatment stacking. Working with a skin care expert is vital to achieving lasting results.
Becca Daly-Bundy, MSN, FNP-C, owner of Balanced Beauty Medical Aesthetics, takes being an aesthetic nurse practitioner
provider extremely seriously. "When you're in my chair, your health and well-being in the present and future are my main priorities," she assures.
As a certified family nurse practitioner with 11-plus years of nursing experience, Becca received her bachelor’s degree from Kettering College and her master's degree in nursing from University of Indianapolis. She previously worked as a registered nurse for Community Health Network prior to being a nurse practitioner.
From Becca's office at 1150 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood, she states for those looking to address skin texture and tone, laser treatments are a powerful solution. She says lasers work beyond the surface of the skin, delivering faster, visible results. "No more waiting months to see a difference; this is a treatment that gets to work right away."
She provides injectable and non-injectable treatments, including microneedling and Perfect Derma Peels. She says The Perfect Derma Peel uses a safe, effective blend of acids and antioxidants to improve skin tone, texture, hyperpigmentation, acne and sun damage, with minimal downtime and positive results starting after one week.
"My passion for aesthetic medicine has allowed me to express my creativity by providing patients with natural beautiful results. My favorite thing about being an injector is having the opportunity to make meaningful connections with my clients.”
Becca can apply various custom treatments, such as Aerolase Neo Elite Laser for acne, hair removal, melasma to scars and skin rejuvenation. She also provides personalized facials for all skin types, ones safe for pregnancy, breastfeeding and individuals undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.
"We’re committed to making client goals a reality with a plan that fits their maintenance level, treatment options and budget."
"Let me tell you about biostimulators that maintain facial skin’s firmness and elasticity while aging."
For those ready for a full-face assessment, Becca provides a 60-minute, in-office consultation, prior to outlining a personalized treatment plan. Consultations include discussing skin care routines and a list of makeup products presently being used.

10 ORAL HEALTH TIPS FROM SAUER DENTISTRY PROFESSIONALS FOR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
Sauer Dentistry team is ready to support everyone's dental and oral health resolutions for 2025.
‘Tis the season for reflection, which means it's a great time to improve oral hygiene through new resolutions. Greenwood City Lifestyle asked the local team at Sauer Dentistry for the following 10 recommendations:
“HERE
60 seconds. To ensure one is brushing long enough, use a timer or an electric toothbrush with a built-in timer. To add a little fun to the practice, sing a “timing” song, such as The Jeopardy! theme; it’s 30 seconds long so sing it once for each quadrant in the mouth.
For those increasing their flossing frequency, they'll have fresher breath and could be reducing their risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Instead of setting the goal at daily flossing, start by increasing the regularity by two days; once it becomes a habit, slowly increase.
Stained teeth have a big impact on appearance and self-confidence. Some of the worst culprits are sodas, chocolate, coffee, tea, red wine, dark beer and berries. Even a small reduction in this area can make a positive difference in teeth brightness.
Electric toothbrushes help clean teeth significantly better than manual toothbrushes. And, brush teeth at least twice a day.
BRUSH TEETH FOR FULL 2 MINUTES
Studies have shown that most Americans really brush for less than
In addition to cutting down on hunger and fatigue, staying hydrated also boosts oral hygiene. When one's mouth dries out, there isn’t enough saliva to consistently wash bacteria away from teeth. As a result, dry mouths can increase the risk of cavities and bad breath.
Calcium is a key nutrient that bodies need for strong bones and teeth. Calcium strengthens teeth roots, ensuring they remain secure in the gums. Consume enough dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese.
Smoking is one of the most dangerous habits for teeth because it increases the risk of gum disease and tooth loss. It also makes it more difficult to receive dental implants. To avoid going the quitting-smoking route alone, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (800.784.8669) for free resources and no judgment coaching.

While mouthwash isn’t a substitute for flossing and brushing, it can reduce plaque buildup and prevent gingivitis and gum disease. Plus, rinsing teeth helps remove food particles not caught by brushing. Mouthwashes with fluoride help to remineralize the enamel.
Just as bacteria can build up on teeth and create plaque, it also can accumulate between taste buds and other crevices on tongues. Along with dead skin cells and food debris, bacteria become trapped on the tongue and need to be physically removed. While brushing tongues with a toothbrush helps to remove some bacteria, it’s not perceived as the most effective method.
Another good resolution is to see dentists at least once every six months for examinations and cleanings to remove tartar and plaque, which cause cavities and tooth decay. Routine dental visits increase the likelihood of early detections, making it easier to manage symptoms and reverse dental or gum damage when possible.
Lastly, one bonus tip is that by intentionally reducing sugar intake, it reduces plaque buildup inside the mouth.

JEFFERSON MEMORIAL HEALTH EARNS “A” HOSPITAL SAFETY GRADE FROM NATIONAL PROGRAM
Johnson Memorial Health earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog organization focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
“This achievement is the result of the hard work and dedication of every member of our organization,” says David Dunkle, M.D., president and CEO of Johnson Memorial Health. “It’s a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional care and maintaining the highest standards of safety. I couldn’t be more proud.”
Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Johnson Memorial Health, says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your
patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Johnson Memorial Health, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
Founded in 2000 by large employers and other health care purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization whose supporters drive a movement for giant leaps for patient safety. The goal of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is to help consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
Leapfrog reportedly works as an independent nonprofit that is governed by purchasers who are not influenced by hospitals or other industry stakeholders.
Johnson Memorial Health is a nationally recognized network of physicians, services and health care resources. The staff at the group's centerpiece location, Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, has served patients as the county’s only full-service hospital since 1947.
In addition to the main campus in Franklin, Johnson Memorial Health managers expanded to serve patients at locations including Whiteland, Greenwood and the Center Grove area. In 2022, Johnson Memorial Health became a member of the prestigious Mayo Clinic Care Network, providing patients with local access to the knowledge and expertise of the world-renowned Mayo Clinic.
Johnson Memorial Health is consistently ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals for patient safety.

Studio YOU Yoga Owner Shares How To Incorporate
The Discipline Into Fitness, Wellness
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON
Yoga is a fantastic addition to any fitness plan, combining strength, flexibility and mindfulness. It’s not just about poses; it’s about connecting with one's body and calming one's mind. Greenwood City Lifestyle asked Chia Chu, owner of Studio YOU Yoga, how to get started in yoga, especially when setting new fitness approaches for 2025:
"Not all yoga styles are the same! Looking for an active, cardio-friendly session? Try Vinyasa, a dynamic flow that gets hearts pumping. Need a slower pace? Gentle or slow flow yoga is perfect for active recovery, helping you relax while staying active. For flexibility, Yin yoga focuses on deep stretches and long-held poses."
“Mindful breathing is what makes yoga unique. Start with belly breathing to relax, or try Ujjayi (ocean breath) to stay focused during challenging poses. Feeling overwhelmed? Alternate nostril breathing can quickly restore balance and calm.”
"Yoga classes are an excellent way to begin. Skilled instructors guide students through proper form, ensuring a safe and enjoyable practice. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to connect with like-minded people and maintain consistency with a set schedule."
"Start small to build momentum; just 10 minutes a day can make a difference. Use yoga as a warm-up, cooldown or standalone session. Set a personal intention like, 'I want to feel strong' or 'I’ll focus on relaxation today' to keep practice meaningful."
Chia assures that yoga brings balance to fitness journeys, helping bodies stay strong and putting minds at ease. "Grab your mat, join a class and start feeling the benefits today," she invites.

JOURNEY HEALTH+WELLNESS PROFESSIONALS HELP CLIENTS
PROMOTE BODY'S NATURAL DETOXIFICATION PROCESS
Co-owners of Journey Health + Wellness center in Greenwood, Kristie Geitner and Jessie Kennell, say the human body can handle small amounts of toxins via natural detoxification processes through cells, organs, tissues, the lymphatic system, liver, kidneys, bile ducts and colon. However, the cumulative effect of repeated exposure to toxins can overwhelm these systems and spill over to other systems. That's why they recommend a fact-based, thorough approach to body cleansing.
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON
DETOXIFICATION COMPONENTS:
• CellCore Detoxing Products
• Lymphatic Drainage
• Colon Hydrotherapy
• InfraRed Sauna
• Red Light Therapy
NEXT STEPS:
1. Book a consultation at the Journey Health + Wellness center to test personal toxin load and receive customized protocols and targeted results.
2. Order jumpstart kit from Journey Health + Wellness to kickstart a detoxification protocol. Jessie and Kristie say this is a good first step for someone who's never completed a detox/cleansing process. It prepares the body for a deeper, more systemic protocol.
3. Adjust lifestyle to minimize exposure to and risks of harmful toxins
4. Choose natural personal care products and household cleaners to reduce skin exposure to chemicals.
5. Eat a diet rich in organic foods and limit the consumption of processed foods
6. Filter drinking water to remove contaminants.
7. Move enough to sweat and drink plenty of water as natural detoxification methods.
