A Taste of Greenwich: Celebrating food, flavor, and community this fall

Dear Readers,

October in Greenwich is one of the most beautiful times of the year when the air turns crisp, the leaves begin to change, and the season invites us to gather around the table and celebrate food, friends, and community. Our Foodie Issue is designed to do just that: highlight the flavors, the people, and the places that make Greenwich so special.

This month, restauranteur Dana Cifone shares her expert roundup of where to eat, drink, and gather right here in town. Whether you’re looking for a cozy dinner spot, the perfect cocktail, or a vibrant place to meet friends, Dana’s guide is a must-read for every foodie.

We also bring you a closer look at Slate, Greenwich’s newest café, already creating buzz for its inviting atmosphere and fresh take on coffeehouse culture. If you’re craving something seasonal to enjoy at home, don’t miss our recipe for a maple pumpkin parfait it’s simple, delicious, and sure to impress.

And for those with wanderlust, our travel writer Anna Barnes takes us inside the Boca Raton Food & Wine Festival, sharing her favorite bites and best tips for making the most of this iconic culinary event. It’s a reminder that the joy of food can connect us locally and inspire us globally.

As always, this issue celebrates the vibrancy of our community and the stories that inspire us, the flavors that delight us, and the places that bring us together. I hope you enjoy turning these pages as much as we loved putting them together.

Here’s to savoring the season ahead!

YO U R WEEKENDSTARTSHERE

A well-spent weekend is all about the moments: meals that linger, conversations that connect, and places that feel both inspiring and inviting. As a restaurateur, I find joy not only in creating those experiences at Townhouse in Greenwich but also in discovering them throughout our local community. From Friday cocktails to Saturday indulgences to a relaxed Sunday reset, Fairfield County offers so many ways to savor the weekend. In this piece, I am sharing a few of my favorite spots that capture the same thoughtful energy and style I aim to bring to Townhouse. I hope they help you slow down, connect, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being exactly where you are. Whether you are entertaining out-of-town guests or treating yourself to a solo moment of peace, these local gems offer something special. They remind me that great hospitality is never just about food or decor. It is about how a space makes you feel, the memories created there, and the connections formed around the table.

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO WHERE TO EAT, DRINK, AND GATHER WITH FRIENDS ALL WEEKEND—FROM FRIDAY NIGHT ENERGY TO SUNDAY CALM.

Townhouse Dana Cifone

Townhouse in Greenwich, Connecticut, was always intended to be more than just a restaurant— it’s a destination. My vision was to reimagine this historic two-story building into a space where every detail matters: layered textures, warm lighting, and a thoughtful flow between rooms. The result is a setting that feels both stylish and inviting, designed to bring people together for moments that are elevated yet effortless.

Townhouse offers experiences for every mood and time of day. Sunlit lunches on the patio, cocktails at the buzzing bar, chic Saturday brunches with friends, and vibrant dinners in one of our interior rooms; all capture a downtown energy. Whether you’re celebrating, gathering, or simply treating yourself, Townhouse provides the perfect backdrop for connection.

While my heart is here, I also love stepping into the dining rooms of fellow restaurateurs—taking in their creativity, soaking up the energy, and appreciating the hospitality that defines our industry. Visiting other restaurants is not only inspiring, it’s a way to celebrate our shared passion that brings us all to the table.

Follow along as I share a few local spots for your weekend at home, from Friday night cocktails to Saturday indulgences to a welcomed Sunday reset. townhousegreenwich.com | @townhousegreenwich

ARTISANS OF WINE & FOOD AT THE BOCA RATON

ARTICLE BY ANNA BARNES | PHOTOGRAPHY BY THE BOCA RATON
An iconic weekend of world-class wines, celebrated chefs, and philanthropy in sunny South Florida.

Earlier this year, The Boca Raton, South Florida’s legendary resort and private club set an impressive new standard with the debut of its inaugural Artisans of Wine & Food, presented by Capital One. The three-day celebration, held in January a welcomed break from the Northeast’s plummeting temperatures brought together more than 100 Napa Valley vintners, the largest-ever collection outside of Napa itself, alongside 20 acclaimed chefs, immersive dining experiences, and a philanthropic mission that raised more than $600,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County and Napa Valley.

The Boca Raton’s iconic property was transformed into a vibrant playground for food lovers, wine enthusiasts, and philanthropists alike. Over 600 guests, VIPs, and members of The Boca Raton Club immersed themselves in the festivities, each event designed to delight the senses while showcasing the property’s exceptional culinary culture. “Our goal was not just to transport a beloved piece of Napa Valley to the East Coast,” said Daniel Hostettler, President & CEO of The Boca Raton. “This event also spotlighted the exceptional food and wine culture at The Boca Raton and in our community. This new annual tradition will strengthen our commitment to culinary excellence for years to come.”

The weekend opened with exclusive dinners that quickly became the talk of the festival. Guests were able to enjoy one of several themed dinners, each pairing exceptional wines with the creativity of celebrated chefs. Guests experienced everything from a showcase of Napa Valley’s finest Cabernets to a modern Italian feast with Mario Carbone, and an open-air dinner highlighting female chefs and winemakers. Other meals included rare micro-lot wines presented alongside Michelin-starred menus, as well as an al fresco gathering led by former French Laundry chef David Breeden with legendary Napa estates.

Beyond the dinners, the weekend came alive with a variety of experiences, as guests explored the Discover Napa Valley Tasting Pavilion, where more than 125 world-class wines and dishes from 20 restaurants created a sensory adventure. Leisure took center stage with a Vintners Invitational Golf Tournament, and Sunday concluded with famed barbecue entertainer Jack Arnold and a lively Southern brunch that blended the weekend’s final sips and exquisite creations from celebrated chefs.

The celebration culminated on Saturday evening at the Charity Auction & Gala, where Michelin-starred chef Fabio Trabocchi presented an exquisite menu. Auctioneer Jacqueline Towers-Perkins led spirited bidding on rare wines and exclusive getaways, including a week in the South of France. The evening’s success underscored the heart of the festival: philanthropy. Proceeds supported the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County and Napa Valley, ensuring that the joy of the weekend extended far beyond The Boca Raton’s grounds and into the lives of young people in need.

With plans already underway for the 2026 edition, taking place January 15th –18th, the Artisans of Wine & Food is poised to become one of the most anticipated culinary and wine celebrations of the year. Blending indulgence with impact, the event proved that The Boca Raton is not only a world-class destination but also a true patron of culture, cuisine, and community.

Start Fresh

with Slate Cafe

This restaurant and coffee bar offers quality dining with neighborhood charm in Cos Cob

Fresh off the heels of an exciting grand opening this past summer, Slate Cafe has already become more than just a neighborhood eatery - it's a beloved community gathering place where exceptional food meets warm hospitality. What sets Slate Cafe apart isn't just its thoughtfully crafted menu of fresh, seasonal dishes or its inviting atmosphere - it's the genuine commitment to creating an experience that feels both sophisticated and familiar. The menu, which caters to nearly every food preference with a variety of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan offerings, presents an abundant assortment of gourmet breakfast options and flavor-packed sandwiches, salads and small plates to enjoy in house or take away. The beverage selection proudly offers the finest artisan coffees, teas and specialty drinks. We sat down with co-founder Ashley Jaffe (fun fact: this is a family business and husband Zach Israel is her partner) to discuss the new establishment and what our community can expect from Slate Cafe with regards to culinary excellence, gracious service and inspired creativity.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE CONCEPT AND WHAT MAKES IT UNIQUE IN THE GREENWICH DINING SCENE?

Slate Cafe is an all-day casual dining cafe and coffee bar. We were among the first in

Manhattan to marry the concepts of quality coffee with a fantastic meal - something that isn't always so obvious in the hospitality world! We are offering the Greenwich community an extension of their home or office. Grab a coffee and work on your laptop - or come in with your whole family for Sunday brunch.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO OPEN SLATE CAFE IN THE COS COB AREA OF GREENWICH?

My family and I recently moved to Greenwich and fell in love with our new town! We wanted to bring our cafe concept to our new community. We felt like Greenwich Avenue already had plenty of cafes, but Cos Cob is such a great little stretch in the middle of everything with no sit-down cafes! Boom – Slate Cafe conveniently located at 3 Strickland Road next to Green & Tonic (formerly Nit Noi) was born.

Croissant and coffee

ARE THERE SIGNATURE DISHES OR DRINKS THAT HAVE BECOME CUSTOMER FAVORITES?

Yes! It's funny - whenever we open in a new neighborhood, we find each community has new favorites. So far Greenwich has been loving the Pesto Chicken Bowl, BEC (bacon, egg and cheese), Green Goddess Chicken Salad Wrap and lots of matcha!

WHAT KIND OF ATMOSPHERE WERE YOU TRYING TO CREATE FOR CUSTOMERS?

We aimed to build a cafe that is welcoming, charming, modern and FUN! We did an installation along the walls with brick that make it feel like someone chipped away at an old building and somehow found this amazing cafe inside.

WHAT DREW YOU TO THE COMMUNITY AND WHERE ARE THE OTHER SLATE CAFE LOCATIONS?

This community has such an eclectic group of customers, that's not something you find in many suburbs - families, office workers, tourists, and so many people simply out walking around! We have four additional locations right now in New York, come visit us Manhattan - NoMad, Midtown, UWS and TriBeCa.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME SLATE CAFE?

We envision our cafe being a "blank slate" for our customers. You can make it whatever you want. Quick coffee to go? Sit down brunch with friends? Office catering? We do it all and encourage our customers to fill up their slate however they see fit.

AS A HUSBAND/WIFE TEAM, WHAT ARE THE PERKS OF WORKING TOGETHER?

We get to tag team everything, which is quite nice. Work, kids, household chores – you name it. We fully understand and appreciate each other's responsibilities and the hard work put into them.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF RUNNING THE BUSINESS?

The people! The staff, the customers, our vendor partners, we have met so many people over the years that have become like family. A cafe is a very special community that has changed my life in so many wonderful ways.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE CUSTOMERS TAKE AWAY FROM THEIR EXPERIENCE?

We hope they find their new home with us! We already have regulars that have been coming in everyday - sometimes twice a day! We want to be a part of their days, their special moments and really embed ourselves into this wonderful community as a neighborhood staple.

DO YOU HAVE PLANS TO OPEN ANY OTHER SLATE CAFE LOCATIONS IN THE AREA?

Not at the moment, but we shall see!

WILL YOU BE HOSTING ANY UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENT FOR THE COMMUNITY?

Yes! We are cooking up a few ideas. Be on the lookout for more information soon.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?

In addition to coming into our cafe - we offer delivery and amazing catering services! We also encourage the community to follow along @slatecafenyc across social media platforms or visit https:// www.slatecafe.com for more information. Hours of operation are weekdays 7:30am – 5pm and weekends 8am – 5pm. We do not take reservations and all dining is first come, first served.

• 1 tsp ground cinnamon

• 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

GRANOLA

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Combine canned pumpkin, water, oil, vanilla extract and ¼ C maple syrup) and mix until well combined.

3. Add rolled oats and salt to wet ingredients and mix until oats are evenly coated.

4. Line a large baking sheet (9 x 13 inches works well) with parchment paper and spray with nonstick cooking oil spray. Transfer oats to baking sheet and spread in a thin, even layer.

5. Bake in oven for 1 hour, mixing at 30 minutes and 45 minutes.

6. Remove oats from oven briefly. Add pumpkin seeds, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and remaining ¼ C pure maple syrup. Mix with a spatula and return to oven to bake for another 30 minutes, mixing halfway through. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before using a spatula to transfer to container. Do not wait too long to transfer granola as it can stick to the parchment paper as it cools.

YOGURT

DIRECTIONS

1. Combine all yogurt ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Top with a handful of the maple pumpkin granola, serve immediately and enjoy!

Note: This granola can be stored in an airtight container and stored in a cool, dry place for up to 1 week. While this granola is made with gluten free ingredients, I recommend using certified gluten free ingredients if needed . Yogurt can be made with a suitable dairy-free alternative if you need this recipe to be dairy-free and the honey can be swapped for pure maple syrup to make the dairy-free yogurt recipe suitable for a vegan diet. The granola and the yogurt can each be enjoyed on their own, but they complement each other so nicely!

This Maple Pumpkin Granola Parfait is a perfect way to celebrate autumn’s most famous flavors in a nutritious way! Pumpkin, maple syrup and warm spices, such as cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, give cozy vibes that are traditionally found in baked goods this time of year. However, while pumpkin bread, muffins, cookies and other fall flavored baked goods are certainly delicious and should be enjoyed, this Maple Pumpkin Granola Parfait provides the satisfaction of those fall flavors in a lighter way, while providing ample protein and fiber. It is the perfect, slightly sweet and balanced way to start the day – or to enjoy anytime!

THE SEASON’S BEST SANDWICHES

Stacked forFall

There’s something deeply satisfying about a well-made sandwich—especially when it comes together with minimal effort but delivers big on flavor. As the season changes and appetites grow heartier, fall is the perfect time to get creative with ingredients tucked between slices of crusty bread or buttery rolls. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your lunch routine, enjoy comforting flavors and bold textures, or impress guests with a no-fuss meal, these easy-tomake sandwiches strike the perfect balance between simple and sensational.

INGREDIENTS

• 2 slices crusty bread (sourdough, ciabatta, French bread)

• 6 oz roast beef

• 2 slices provolone cheese

• 2 tbsp butter (for toasting)

INSTRUCTIONS

• 2 ½ tbsp mayonnaise

• 1 tbsp horseradish sauce

• 1 tsp Dijon mustard

• Arugula

• Cherry tomato

• Caramelized onions

Toast the bread. Butter one side of each slice and toast in a skillet until golden. Heat roast beef briefly in a pan. To make the spread, mix mayo, horseradish sauce, and Dijon. Spread on the toasted bread. Layer roast beef, cheese, and broil briefly to melt. Add arugula, tomato, and caramelized onions if using. Top with the second slice of bread.

INGREDIENTS

• 1 grilled chicken breast

• 2 slices pepper jack cheese

• 2 slices cooked bacon

• 1 tbsp fruit jam (fig, raspberry, or jalapeño recommended)

INSTRUCTIONS

• A handful of fresh arugula

• 3–4 cherry tomatoes (halved)

• 1 tbsp garlic aioli

• 1 brioche bun (toasted)

Lightly butter the inside of the bun and toast in a skillet or oven until golden brown. Spread a layer of garlic aioli on the bottom bun. Add the sliced grilled chicken breast. Place the pepper jack cheese over the hot chicken to slightly melt it. Layer on the crispy bacon slices. Add halved cherry tomatoes and a small handful of arugula. Spread the jam on the top bun. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

• 3 oz goat cheese

• Fresh arugula

• ¼ cup caramelized onions

• 1 pear, thinly sliced

INSTRUCTIONS

• Honey, to taste

• Butter for toasting the bread

• Rotisserie chicken breast thinly sliced

• Sourdough bread, buttered (optional)

Spread goat cheese on one side of the bread. Top the cheese with arugula, caramelized onions, sliced pears and chicken breast. Drizzle with honey. Top with remaining slice of sourdough bread. Use a griddle or panini press to heat the sandwich.

INGREDIENTS

• French bread loaf, halved lengthwise

• 2 cups cherry tomatoes

• 2 garlic cloves, minced

• ¼ cup olive oil

• 1 tsp thyme or rosemary

• Salt, pepper, chili flakes (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

• 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced

• 1 cup arugula

• 2–4 tbsp pesto (thinned with olive oil)

• Balsamic glaze

• Optional: 4 slices prosciutto

• Fresh basil

Toss cherry tomatoes with olive oil, garlic, herbs, salt, and pepper. Roast at 375°F for 20–25 minutes until soft and caramelized. Brush bread with olive oil. Toast in the oven at 375°F for 5–7 minutes until crisp. Layer mozzarella slices on the toasted bread. Add fresh basil. Return to the oven for 3–5 minutes, just until melted. Optional: Top with roasted tomatoes, arugula, and prosciutto (if using). Drizzle with pesto and balsamic glaze.

How To Stay Festive And Healthy? Sure Thing

Halloween is typically filled to the brim with salt, sugar and carbs. It can be hard to stay on the nutrition wagon during spooky season, but there are plenty of fun ways to add a festive spin to favorite healthy dishes.

pumpkinFRUIT BOWL

With luck finding a melon or watermelon at the store, simply carve it like a jack-o-lantern and make the mouth large enough to have other sliced fruit emerging, such as cut pineapple, sliced grapes and apple chunks. Along the side, peel mini oranges and add a green stem to mimic pumpkins.

spooky CHARCUTERIE

These fan favorite boards can easily be kept healthy with some additions. Make any treat spooky with edible eyeballs. Adding them to a small snack such as mini bell peppers or grapes and strawberries is a fun way to stay on theme without sacrificing a healthy streak. Eyeball salami rolls also can be added, starting first with a green olive in the center, surrounded by a roll of mozzarella cheese and then surrounded by salami or even prosciutto.

stuffed PEPPERS

This fall staple easily can be incorporated into a fall gathering or Halloween night by carving jacko-lantern faces in orange peppers, and resuming a favorite recipe from there. Serving bread on the side? Use a skull or pumpkin shaped cookie cutter to re-shape it.

ghostly DIP

Hummus and pitas can be made scary in no time. Use a ghost shaped cookie cutter to shape pita bread, lightly toast and serve with red pepper hummus, which is usually orange in color.

jack-o-lantern VEGGIE TRAY

The easiest bet for a quick and healthy Halloween treat? You can’t go wrong with a veggie tray shaped like a jack-o-lantern. Use baby carrots as the base, and cucumber or celery to shape the mouth and stem. The eyes? Two round bowls of veggie dip.
