Dear Greenwich Readers,
This month, we raise a glass to the men in our community who are shaping the way we live, lead, and connect. Our annual Men’s Issue is always a favorite to put together, and this year’s lineup is especially exciting.
On our cover, we’re honored to feature Shep and Ian Murray, the visionary brothers behind Vineyard Vines. Their story began right here in Greenwich and serves as a reminder that big dreams, anchored in authenticity and family, can grow into something iconic. From ties in a Jeep to over 125 stores nationwide, their brand has become a symbol of joy, tradition, and the Good Life.
We also had the pleasure of stepping into the kitchen with Chef Mike from Roost, who shared what’s cooking behind the scenes and why his approach to food continues to win hearts (and stomachs). Over at Rudy’s Bar and Grill, co-owner Nils Hagstrom reflects on history, legacy, and what it means to run one of NYC’s most beloved watering holes.
You’ll also meet Mark Mosello of Design Lighting by Marks, whose work quietly elevates some of the most stunning homes and landscapes in town, and Brent Montgomery, whose creativity and vision have redefined the media world.
To round it all out, don’t miss this month’s healthy seasonal recipe—Summer Salmon on the Grill—perfect for a backyard dinner with the ones you love.
Whether you're celebrating the men in your life or finding inspiration in these incredible local stories, we hope this issue reminds you of the heart, humor, and hustle that drive our community.
Wishing you a month of sunshine, connection, and feeling good—every day.

The new restaurants will be located at 425 Heights Road, Darien, CT 06820, and 702 Bridgeport Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484.
“It should look peaceful, natural, and enhance reality—not distract from it.”
If you've driven through Greenwich and admired a perfectly lit tree, a softly glowing pathway, or a property that looks effortlessly elegant at night, chances are you're seeing the work of Mark Mosello. As the founder and creative force behind Design Lighting by Marks, he’s built a reputation for transforming spaces with light—without ever letting the light itself steal the show.
Mark’s journey into outdoor and landscape lighting started with a single, decisive act of creative confidence. On one of his earliest jobs in Scarsdale, Mark suggested illuminating a tree in the client’s yard. She declined. Not one to back down from an idea he believed in, Mark returned that weekend and made a simple offer: he’d light the tree for $300. If she and her husband liked it, great. If not, he’d dismantle it free of charge. They loved it—and word spread quickly. What began as one lit tree soon turned into a business built on trust, artistry, and word of mouth.
Today, Design Lighting by Marks is a full-scale operation offering landscape and indoor lighting, a five-star-rated generator
division as a certified Generac dealer, and comprehensive turnkey services—from permits and buried propane tanks to concrete work and 24/7 emergency service. Their “Time to Give Back” initiative has raised more than $1,000,000 for local charities—a testament to Mark’s commitment to community as much as craftsmanship.
Mark’s design philosophy is refreshingly understated: "Light should not be noticeable. Glare ruins everything," he says. “It should look peaceful, natural, and enhance reality—not distract from it.” That principle has guided his team to become known not just for installing lights, but for illuminating homes with elegance and intention.
The process begins with a walk-through. “It takes me five seconds,” Mark says of his ability to visualize the transformation. He tailors each design to the property and the client's needs, ensuring it’s both energy-efficient and aesthetically beautiful. From soft washes of light over trees to subtle glows along architectural lines, each installation is seamlessly integrated using dark, earthytoned fixtures that blend in, not stand out.
The key to Mark’s approach is a balance of function and beauty. The result is often so serene, it feels like the light is coming from nature itself. “There’s a lot of missed opportunity in your indoor and outdoor spaces without designer lighting,” he says. “We make it look elegant, not noticeable.”
It’s a craft honed over years and a client list that includes high-profile names like Jamie Dimon, Sandy Weill, and Diana Ross—who famously gave Mark’s team signed autographs as a thank-you.
What excites Mark most these days? The continued advancement of LED technology, allowing for dramatic effect with minimal energy use. "You can leave your lighting on all night long now," he says, “and it costs pennies.”
When asked what advice he has for homeowners considering lighting upgrades, he keeps it simple: avoid glare, work within your budget, and always aim for lighting that looks like it belongs there naturally.
"What I enjoy most," Mark adds, "is making people feel happy. I get a nice buzz from everyone’s reaction."
When he’s not transforming properties, you’ll find him relaxing with family, enjoying breakfast in bed, or dining out with his wife—proof that even the man who lights up everyone else's life knows how to enjoy the quiet moments.
Design Lighting by Marks offers more than just beautiful light. With a five-star generator division, complete permitting and installation services, and 24/7 emergency support, they’re your go-to team for reliable, elegant, full-service solutions indoors and out.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PURSUE A CAREER IN COOKING?
I have my Nonnie to thank for my love of cooking.
I started cooking with her in her kitchen when I was 12. She taught me how to make her homemade pasta, her gravy and meatballs and all of the dishes we would enjoy as a family every Sunday at my grandparents’ house. School wasn’t really my thing and I started to intern at local Greenwich restaurants in High School. I knew at an early age that I would have a career in food.
TELL US ABOUT BLUEBIRD TAQUERIA AND HOW THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN THUS FAR.
After closing the doors to Ada’s early last year, I was focused on continuing to build our Roost Kitchen + Coffee brand (current locations in Cos Cob and Darien) but I was also ready to dive into a new concept. We opened Bluebird Taqueria in December of 2024 in Glenville and the first few months have been great! Our signature items are authentic tacos and quesadillas featuring house

made corn tortillas and our guacamole made in a traditional molcajete. Our slow roasted beef birria and chicken tinga are highlighted throughout the menu and our carnitas burrito is an early favorite. We’re working on outdoor seating in the spring and can’t wait for the warmer weather and DeCiccos & Sons to open in the Glenville Shopping Center.
SPILL WHAT YOU CAN ABOUT ROOST FAIRFIELD AND WHEN WE CAN EXPECT THAT TO OPEN.
Roost Fairfield is set to open in early summer. The Fairfield menu will be the same as other Roost locations, with our signature scratch made breakfast and lunch and coffee by Kestrel Coffee Roasters. This spot will be similar to Darien, with both seating and food to-go, made fresh daily. We plan to stay open a little later and potentially have more dinner-friendly plates for the post school and work rush.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU, BOTH PERSONALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY?
Personally, I want to continue to focus on spending time with my wife and three daughters. We live busy lives in Cos Cob and any free time I have is dedicated to them. From a professional perspective, I never slow down. I hope to continue to lead and support my team and to continue to grow both the Roost and Bluebird businesses, to put good food out in the world, and to continue to push myself.

RUDY'S BAR & GRILL IS A HISTORIC DIVE BAR IN NYC SINCE 1933. TELL US ABOUT HOW IT BECAME THE ICONIC SPOT IT IS TODAY.
At Rudy’s Bar we do things differently than most bars. When you come here, you’ll be greeted by a seven-foot pig named "Baron Von Swine.” He is our Mascot and might be the most photographed object in all of New York City. We pride ourselves on having the cheapest beer and drinks in the city. You can get our House Rudy’s Blonde beer for only $4. Any drink you buy at Rudy’s includes a free hot dog. We give away more than 4,000 hot dogs a week for free, all you have to do is buy a cheap drink. Rudy’s is a true melting pot of Manhattan. You could be sitting next to a tourist, neighborhood local or someone having a drink before or after work. Barrymore, Al Capone, Christina Hendricks, Johnny Knoxville, Halle Berry and Jimmy Fallon, just to name a few. Steely Dan even wrote a song about Rudy’s called "Black Cow.”
Rudy’s scored one of New York’s first liquor licenses when prohibition ended in 1933. There has been a long line of great owners and managers that have kept Rudy’s running and successful. My business partner Danny Depamphillis and I recently became owners after bartending and managing Rudy’s in the summer of 2024. It is a true honor for me to be one of the owners of Rudy’s and something I feel very blessed to operate. I have worked here for more than 25 years and done literally every single job in the place. Rudy’s in an institution in New York and really is a one-ofa-kind type experience. I feel that it is my job to stay true to the concept of Rudy’s and make sure it is around for the next 100 years.
Being a part of creating an environment that people from the neighborhood can afford to come to everyday and drink. Neighborhood people rely on us, which is why we are open 365 days a year from 8AM until last call at 4AM.
The ambience is a big reason people come back. You feel like you are family when you come to Rudy’s. The cheap drinks also help.
My go to drink order is our famous $5 shot and beer deal.

MEDITERRANEAN STYLE SALMON SKEWERS WITH SUMMER VEGGIES AND HERBS
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALYSSA LAVY, MS, RD, CDN
These Summer Salmon Skewers are the perfect summer grilling recipe! They’re bursting with a bright, fresh flavor from the lemon juice and herbs and they are perfectly satisfying without feeling heavy. These skewers serve up plenty of satiating protein, fiber and healthy fats, including omega 3 fatty acids - known for their anti-inflammatory properties. Pair them with summer corn, potatoes or an orzo salad to round out the meal. Whether you’re making them as part of a larger barbecue for a crowd or simply enjoying a meal with your family, these skewers are the perfect colorful, fun dish to ring in grilling season - and they are just as delicious as they are pretty!
Ingredients (yields 4 salmon skewers)
• 16 oz salmon, raw
• 2 medium zucchini ( about 16 oz)
• 2 medium yellow squash (about 16 oz)
• ½ medium sweet onion
• 2 bell peppers
For the veggies:
¼ C avocado oil
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground black pepper
¾ tsp onion powder
¾ tsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp oregano
1 Tbsp parsley (can use fresh or dried)
½ Tbsp dill (can use fresh or dried)
For the fish:
2 Tbsp avocado oil
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground black pepper
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic powder
½ Tbsp oregano
1 Tbsp parsley (can use fresh or dried)
½ tsp dill (can use fresh or dried)
Juice from 1 lemon
directions
1. Wash the zucchini, yellow squash and bell pepper and pat dry. Chop zucchini and yellow squash into slices approximately 1 ½ inch thick. Chop the bell pepper into medium sized chunks, into approximately 8-10 pieces each. Chop onion into similar sized chunks. Place in a large mixing bowl. *The amount of veggie pieces will vary slightly - if you have leftover vegetables that do not fit on the skewers, simply grill them in a grill basket or directly on the grill (make sure they do not slip through) and serve with the skewers. Veggie slices should be somewhat similar in size so they cook evenly.
CONTINUED >
2. Add ¼ C avocado oil and all spices listed under veggies (salt, ground black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, parsley and dill) to the bowl with the veggies and mix with a large spoon until veggies are evenly coated with marinade. Set aside.
3. Remove skin from salmon using a sharp knife. Cut the salmon into chunks approximately 1 ½ - 2 inches thick (there should be roughly 12-15 pieces of salmon in total). Place in a medium sized mixing bowl.
4. Add 2 Tbsp avocado oil, lemon juice from one lemon, and all the spices listed under fish (salt, ground black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, parsley, dill) to the bowl with the salmon and mix with a large spoon until salmon is evenly coated with marinade.
5. Take one of the large skewers and pierce the veggies and salmon with the skewer, adding 3-4 salmon pieces per skewer divided by veggies. Repeat for the remaining three skewers (you may also use more skewers if needed, depending on the size of the skewer). Once skewers are complete, place each skewer on a large plate (a large baking sheet works well here), cover with plastic wrap and let marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes or up to 6 hours.
6. Preheat the grill for a few minutes to medium heat when ready to grill. Remove skewers from fridge and place each skewer on the grill. Grill the skewers, turning occasionally, until salmon is cooked through and veggies and salmon are slightly browned on the edges (approximately 10-15 minutes total, although grill time will vary). Fish should reach an internal temperature of at least 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Enjoy
Note: These salmon skewers can marinate in the fridge for up to 6 hours, or you may choose to omit this step and grill as soon as the skewers are made if you are short on time. Marinating will enhance the flavor and texture, but is not necessary if you are short on time.

The Murray Brothers on Building Vineyard Vines and a Lifestyle That Lasts
Twenty-seven years ago, Shep and Ian Murray walked out of their corporate jobs in Manhattan and into the unknown—with nothing but a Jeep full of ties, a dream to live life on their own terms, and a deep-rooted love for Martha’s Vineyard. Today, Vineyard Vines is a household name, known not just for its iconic pink whale, but for a lifestyle that invites everyone to embrace the mantra: Every Day Should Feel This Good. "We didn’t follow a corporate playbook," says Shep. "We made decisions based on what felt right—for us, for our team, and for our customers."
The original idea was simple: sell ties that captured the joy, humor, and lightheartedness of summers on the Vineyard. “We wanted to share what we love,” Ian says. “That laid-back vibe of being out on the water, fishing, boating—just enjoying the simple moments with the people you love.”
They launched the brand with maxed-out credit cards, no business plan, and a trunk full of handmade ties. Their first big moment? Selling ties out of the back of their Jeep. Their first big panic? Forgetting an entire shipment in Connecticut the night before their official launch. Thanks to a helpful neighbor with a plane, they made the deadline—and never looked back.
Today, Vineyard Vines is more than ties. With over 125 stores nationwide, the brand now outfits entire families in everything from performance wear to beach-ready essentials. “Our product is designed to take you through life’s feel-good moments,” says Ian. “It’s about making people feel as good as they look.”
Shep adds, “We’re the same at our core—we’re still having fun and still sharing the Good Life. That hasn’t changed.”
The brothers are quick to point out that their success hasn’t come without challenges. In the early days, they were repeatedly told no. They were turned away by banks, lived off credit cards, and hustled their way through countless rejections. But they never lost sight of their vision.
“Every ‘no’ was just fuel to keep going,” Shep says. “When one door closed, we found a window.”
(SHEP):
“WE NEVER FOLLOWED A CORPORATE PLAYBOOK— WE BUILT THIS BRAND ON INSTINCT, ON JOY, AND ON DOING WHAT FELT RIGHT. THAT’S WHAT MADE VINEYARD VINES WHAT IT IS.”
(IAN):
“OUR MISSION HAS ALWAYS BEEN SIMPLE—
SPREAD
THE GOOD LIFE. WHEN YOU DO WHAT YOU LOVE WITH THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE, EVERY DAY REALLY CAN FEEL THIS GOOD.”
That determination, paired with a genuine belief in their mission, helped them grow a brand rooted in community, connection, and authenticity. “At vineyard vines, our first goal is to make this a great place to work,” says Ian. “We want our team to feel as good as the brand we’re spreading.”
And spread it they have—through everything from their 15-year partnership with the Kentucky Derby to their newest collaborations, including a Grateful Dead line and an upcoming JAWS collection launching this summer.
Despite their growth, the brothers stay grounded. They’re often found popping into their Greenwich and New Canaan stores to chat with customers and hear firsthand how the brand fits into people’s lives.
“That’s the best part,” Ian says. “Seeing how Vineyard Vines is part of someone’s vacation, their wedding, or just their everyday routine.”
Ask them what EDSFTG (Every Day Should Feel This Good) means, and they light up. For Shep, it’s about long Vineyard summers with his family—breakfasts together, fishing trips, and sunsets on the porch.
For Ian, it’s being out on the water, surrounded by people he loves. “It’s those simple joys that make life rich,” he says.
Their partnership as brothers is just as seamless. “We’ve always had each other’s backs,” Ian says. “If one of us doesn’t love an idea, it’s not happening. Simple as that.”
“We’re living our dream every day,” Shep says. “And we’re doing it together. That’s pretty special.”
With new product drops, a loyal following, and no outside investors, Shep and Ian continue to captain the ship—and they’re not slowing down anytime soon.

Brent Montgomery has made the Greenwich community home for more than a decade, alongside his wife and partner in numerous business endeavors, Courtney Montgomery, and their children. Founding and leading businesses across entertainment, sports, real estate and investment, Montgomery’s journey has been defined by an eye for talent, an instinct for opportunity and a commitment to fostering community.
“He believed providing opportunities to skilled, under-the-radar individuals wasn’t just the right thing to do, it was a winning business strategy.”
Starting his career as a television production assistant, Montgomery formed his first company, Leftfield Entertainment in the mid-2000s. He believed providing opportunities to skilled, underthe-radar individuals wasn’t just the right thing to do, it was a winning business strategy. His ability to identify and develop untapped talent, both on and off camera, fueled Leftfield’s rapid rise and eventual acquisition by international media conglomerate, ITV. Following the sale, Montgomery became CEO of ITV America, one of the largest independent producers of unscripted television in the U.S.
In 2018, Montgomery launched Stamford-based Wheelhouse, utilizing his expertise in talent and trend spotting to build a unique media and investment platform (the company also maintains offices in New York, Los Angeles and London).
He remains an avid supporter of enterprising individuals with ambition and work ethic and fuels his passion for mentorship and access by creating endeavors that “give back” and provide real-world paths to success. To that end, Montgomery recently founded nonprofit LaunchPad, dedicated to breaking down barriers for emerging talent in entertainment, sports and finance. The initiative kicked off in 2023 as part of the Village Community Foundation and offers students career opportunities, mentoring and workshop sessions with business leaders who provide tools and a better understanding of “how to get in” to their desired fields.
For Montgomery, LaunchPad is an extension of the values that shaped his own journey, and a testament to his belief that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.
DISCOVER THE WHIMSY OF THE WEST AT PAWS UP MONTANA
Favorably referred to as the “Last Best Place” and the “Treasure State,” Montana has captured the hearts of cinematic cowboys like Taylor Sheridan and Harrison Ford and inspired the television series, “Yellowstone” and its prequels, “1883” and “1923.” Though fictional, they’ve reminded America of its deeply-rooted spirit for adventure and the simple yet rugged way of life that we all crave. Whether its the backdrop of jagged, snowcapped peaks or the endless golden pastures that are peppered with livestock, this Rocky Mountain soil is a breeding ground for dreamers and doers, and the people who call it home are no strangers to the ritual of ranch life.
So, you want to be a cowboy? Slipping on some leather and having a little hide in your hat are good ways to start, but visiting a resort that brings the best of this life to the forefront, while also embracing modern luxury, is the experience of a lifetime.
Paws Up Montana sprawls the distance of 37,000 private acres of historic estateland, which houses a working ranch and 10 miles of Blackfoot river. Personalization is key—a divine selection of cuisine for the foodies, awe-inspiring activities for the adrenaline seekers, and world-class lodging that tickles every fancy from stargazing glamping, to timber-style family dwellings, to the uniquely designed green “o hauses” that invite the outside world in.
CHELSEA LYN AGRO PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
To change your attitude, you need a change in altitude. Gain some speed or turn up the adrenaline level with ATV tours, electric biking, mountain biking, go-karts, paintball, rappelling down Lookout Rock or whitewater rafting down the Blackfoot River. Indulge in the western art of living with archery, fly-fishing, hiking or sporting clays. For those who want to immerse themselves in the language of horses, there are horse-related adventures such as lessons, grooming or feeding, horse-whispering workshops or organized trails rides. Riders can also enjoy cattle drives that bring you back to yesteryear—driving a herd of cattle across the famed landscape—and bear witness to mustang gentling, where the Equestrian Manager communicates with a wild horse through body language and tone of voice. Skyline Aerial Adventure Park is another notable warm-weather activity, taking guests on two high-ropes courses.
Luxury Homes are categorized into preference-based properties that boast the thrill of wilderness living. For larger families and multigenerational groups, consider the Wilderness Estates. At 3,250-squarefeet, these estates sleep up to eight guests and feature three large suites with private baths. The Big Timber Homes are available in one-to-three bedroom options and come ornamented with fire places and private decks. The Meadow Homes are 1,100-square-foot single-story homes that sleep up to four guests, situated amid a pastoral and treed setting. For an extra nod of perfection, choose one of the luxury homes that comes equipped with a private tent—ideal for anyone traveling with children (or adults who beckon back their childhood!).
For a more primitive experience, Glamping Homes offer the right amount of canvas to create a close-to-nature experience. Available mid-May through mid-October, choose from river settings to creeksides, bluffs or cliffs. Each tent is adorned with something unique—a copper tub, a picturesque view of Lewis and Clark’s famous Lookout Rock and Western-chic furniture throughout. Zip down the windows to allow for the cool nightly breeze, yet enjoy the modern convenience of electricity. Each campsite has a dining pavilion. And don’t miss the s’mores boards around the communal fire pit, offered by your own s’moresologist—yes, you read that right, and yea, it’s a thing.
Lastly, but certainly not least, are the state-of-theart accommodations of the Green O hauses. This portion of the property is completely curated for those 21 years of age and older. It’s a resort within a resort, a hidden pearl in an oyster of experience. The Tree Haus is elevated 23 feet in the air and offers unparalleled forest views. The Green Haus includes a skylight above the bed for an unmatched view of pluck-emfrom-the-sky stars. The Round Haus has curved, floor-to-ceiling windows that offer 180-degree panoramic views. Both the Green and Round Hauses are dog friendly, too, so Fido can rest in the lap of luxury. The Light Haus is illuminated by skylights and unique glass design.
Montana’s best kept secret? Our hideaway chefs, making waves from the Montana wilderness. Chef Brandon Cunningham, Executive Chef at the Green O, is a James Beard Award finalist whose creations at the Social Haus are highly curated through an 8-course tasting menu. Other highly trained and talented chefs like Chef Brett Edlund, Chef Ben Scott, Executive Pastry Chef Krystle Swenson, and Sunny Jin, the General Manager of Food and Beverage, are part of the intricate patchwork of the culinary experience at Pomp, Trough, Shed, Camp and the notable Chuck Wagon—a summertime treat where guests can ride a hay wagon along the banks of the Blackfoot River for an Old West-inspired chuck wagon dinner. The menu ranges from all-natural chicken and Tomahawk ribeye to fresh vegetables grilled over an open flame campfire.
Airport: Missoula Montana Airport (MSO) Airport transfers from Missoula are complimentary for guests and all luxury home and Green O accommodations come with a Lexus luxury SUV for transportation use on property.
