Think You Don’t Need Asset Protection? Think Again.

It’s a common misconception that only the wealthy or those in high-risk professions need asset protection. But the truth is, anyone can be sued — a car accident, foreclosure, an injured tenant, unpaid medical bills — and the financial fallout could crush your finances. Don’t wait for trouble to strike. Plan now.

What Is Asset Protection Planning?

Asset protection planning uses legal structures and strategies to safeguard your assets (accounts and property) from lawsuits and creditors. The key? You must act before a legal issue arises. Waiting until you're already in trouble could lead to penalties or accusations of fraud. So, now is the time to consider implementing one or more of the following tips to protect your hard-earned money and property from creditors, predators, and lawsuits.

✓ Load Up on Liability Insurance

Your first and most affordable line of defense.

Homeowner’s, auto, business, professional, malpractice, long-term care insurance and umbrella policies can help cover lawsuit costs and legal fees. Review your policy limits regularly and talk with your insurance agent about umbrella coverage as these types of policies are relatively inexpensive compared with more advanced asset protection strategies.

✓ Max Out Your 401(k) or IRA

Protected by federal law in bankruptcy (with certain limitations).

These accounts not only grow your retirement savings but can keep your money safe from creditors, predators, and lawsuits. Don’t miss the chance to secure your future and your finances.

✓ Use an LLC for Investment or Rental Properties

Owning real estate outside an LLC leaves your personal assets exposed.

An LLC provides a legal barrier between your business and your personal wealth — a smart move for landlords, flippers, and real estate investors.

CELEBRATING ONE YEAR OF HEALING AND INNOVATION

The Boyer-Bryan West Tower

One year ago, Williamson Medical Center opened the doors to a new chapter in care — and what a beautiful transformation it has been.

The Boyer-Bryan West Tower was purposefully designed to reflect the excellence of our regional health system and to serve our growing community for generations to come — advancing patient care and supporting our dedicated sta every step of the way. From state-of-the-art equipment to thoughtfully designed spaces for every stage of healing, this tower represents the best of who we are and where we’re headed.

Every detail — from our spacious OB rooms and renovated NICU, to our advanced Cardiac Center with cutting-edge EP and catheterization labs — was shaped by the voices of nurses, physicians, architects and patients. It’s more than a building; it’s a space where care teams collaborate seamlessly, where families feel supported, and where patients experience the comfort and confidence they deserve.

With expanded units, private consult spaces, and bright, modern design throughout, this environment continues to lift the spirit of everyone who walks through our doors — enhancing collaboration, enriching patient experiences, and fostering healing in every corner.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to one incredible year — and many more to come.

FULFILLING UNMET NEEDS

PHYSICIANS URGENT CARE IS HELPING SMALL BUSINESSES PROVIDE EMPLOYEES WITH AFFORDABLE GROUP HEALTH PLANS

ARTICLE BY ED ATLAS | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

The ever-changing healthcare landscape makes it challenging for small businesses to offer employees access to meaningful medical services. In some cases, the expense is so great that it puts small business owners at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to hiring and retaining top talent.

The team at Physicians Urgent Care (PUC) recognized the viciousness of that cycle and recently introduced Medical Memberships, a service designed to fulfill this unmet need. Memberships, available to businesses with 120 or fewer employees, include unlimited urgent care visits for just $57 per month, per employee.

“We’re small-business owners, too, and we know how expensive health insurance can be,” says Dr. Jason Rubino, one of six partners at doctor-owned Physicians Urgent Care. “Since we began offering them a few months ago, Medical Memberships have been well received. We see it as a sensible way for business owners to offer their employees access to quality care that’s convenient and affordable.”

On most days, people don’t need a doctor. But when they do, it’s often to see their primary care physician for a chronic condition—or the dreaded trip to the ER that many have made either for themselves or a family member.

But it’s that in-between space—common illnesses and minor injuries—that PUC fills.

“We can see patients quickly when they are experiencing infections, strep throat, flu or COVID symptoms,” Rubino says. “And we can treat injuries that require sutures, which is something your primary care physician isn’t always equipped to do.”

Beyond those basics, PUC can diagnose a host of conditions including asthma, bronchitis, migraines, rashes, burns and dehydration. Think you might have a sprain, strain or fracture? Visit PUC. Lab work and X-rays are performed on-site. Need a sports physical or flu shot? You can schedule that at PUC, too.

L to R: Jeffrey St. Amant, MD, Brady Allen, MD, David Whetstone, MD, Nabil Boutros, MD, Stephen Anderson, MD, Jason Rubino, DO

“A lot of times, due to the expense involved or the long wait to see a primary care physician, people will try to treat an illness or injury with rest and over-the-counter medications, hoping it resolves on its own,” Rubino says. “Because we’re affordable and people can be seen the same day, we help mitigate those concerns.”

Rubino, whose partners include Drs. Jeffrey St. Amant, Brady Allen, David Whetstone, Nabil Boutros and Stephen Anderson, says it all comes down to how much a patient values their peace of mind.

“When my kids are sick, it’s best to take them to someone who can make sure it’s not serious,” he says. “It’s a lot less expensive to treat something early and prevent it from evolving into something more severe. The peace of mind is worth the small out-of-pocket expense.”

A growing number of people agree. Physicians Urgent Care sees about 45,000 patients annually between its three Williamson County locations: 155 Covey Drive in Franklin, 5021 Hughes Crossing in Berry Farms, and 700 Old Hickory Boulevard in Brentwood. A fourth location in Nolensville is set to open in December 2025.

The service and convenience are tough to beat. The on-site providers are among the best in the area. The six owner-doctors, who actively practice in hospital emergency rooms, schedule their shifts to ensure there’s always an ER physician on call. That’s critical when it comes to evaluating patients with unusual symptoms.

“Our providers are great. They all have a lot of experience,” Rubino says. “We personally train them every other month on various medical conditions. The protocols we follow are very specific so we can provide the best care.

“We encourage our providers to consult with us. They’ll send us an X-ray or EKG, and sometimes multiple doctors will respond at once. We’re happy to answer those questions. It means our providers are doing a thorough job and ruling out serious diagnoses.”

Rubino notes that every urgent care center sees a small number of cases that require ER treatment. At PUC, that number is about two percent. When it happens, and with the patient’s consent, PUC can arrange ambulance transport and provide detailed information about the case to the emergency department.

The goal is to treat patients at PUC and free up the ER for truly critical cases.

“Emergency physicians are saving lives every day. Our role is to bridge the gap between minor illnesses and true emergencies,” Rubino says. “Sometimes people come to us because they don’t want to wait at the ER, and they’re not sure if they should go. For example, patients with chest pains or shortness of breath can be evaluated by us, and we determine if they need a higher level of care. We don’t reflexively send people to the ER.”

“We take pride in being a small, independent company owned by ER doctors. We see firsthand the problem of ER overcrowding and want to help patients avoid the expense and time of an emergency room visit. That’s why we have such a loyal following.”

And it all starts with meeting unmet needs. PhysiciansUrgentCare.com

A FOUNDATION OF LOVE

MAK ING A Dif ference FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH Dow n Syndrome

When Jake and Ashlyn Burger of College Grove found out they were having a little girl last year, they were thrilled. Then when they discovered she would have Down syndrome, they were understandably shocked and confused.

“I was 10 weeks pregnant and we were so uneducated at that point,” Ashlyn says. “Most people think that if no one in their family has Down syndrome, then they can’t have a child with Down syndrome.”

She was also worried about how the diagnosis would change their family dynamic. Their son Brooks was only two years old.

“Jake’s levelheadedness kept me calm because he just knew everything was going to be OK, which made me also believe that everything was going to be OK,” she says.

Their family life was already a bit hectic and unconventional. Jake, a Major League Baseball player with the Texas Rangers, was away a lot during the season.

“I thought, ‘Is she going to be able to go to baseball games with the family,’” says Jake.

On Oct. 25, 2024, Penelope Pearl Burger was born, and their lives certainly changed.

“She’s perfect just the way she is,” Jake says. “Every morning when she wakes up and sees either one of us, she gets the biggest smile on her face and it just warms our hearts. She’s also very sassy and she’ll let us know if she doesn’t like something.”

Big brother Brooks is very protective of his little sister.

“No one’s allowed to hold her unless they ask his permission first,” Ashlyn says. “It’s been really incredible as a parent to see how your older child, especially a little boy, is just so protective of his little sister.”

While Penelope did have to undergo open-heart surgery, the family has continued doing everything they used to do.

“Having a second child is always an incredible transition. We take her to baseball games and she just

sleeps through the later innings. I don’t know if she’s going to want to watch when she gets older since it apparently bores her now,” Ashlyn says, laughing.

Jake is the only active MLB player with a child who has Down syndrome. It's important to the couple, who met in 2021 and married in 2022, to let other families know that a Down syndrome diagnosis is not as scary as it might seem.

“It’s been very special to have Penelope,” Ashlyn says.

Before and after Penelope’s birth, the support from the Rangers, friends, family and the community was incredible. Now, they want to ensure other families facing the same diagnosis receive that same support.

“After being blessed with Penelope, we’ve had access to a lot of resources that many people don’t have,” Jake says. “We kind of felt like there was a calling from God to use our platform for the greater good of the community.”

On March 21, World Down Syndrome Day, they announced the launch of The Burger Family Foundation, a College Grove-based organization focused on giving back to the community that’s been there for them.

“It’s a two-pronged approach,” Jake says. “The first is Pen’s Pearls, which will directly give back to the community monetarily—whether that’s a family that needs help with therapy bills, medical bills or maybe even a babysitter who specializes in caring for children with Down syndrome. This way, parents can have some time to just be spouses to each other.”

Support may also include funding for educational resources, camps and anything else a family might need to improve their lives and those of their children.

“For example, there are several organizations that offer great special needs summer camps, and if a family needs help paying tuition, then we’d love to put their child into that program,” Jake says.

The second goal of the foundation is to establish The Lucky Ranch, a place where children can receive occupational, physical and other therapies.

“The ranch will have all sorts of animals, different types of plants and more,” he said. “We want it to be an oasis, in a sense, for families with children or adults with Down syndrome.”

The couple believes being outdoors and connecting with nature is vitally important.

“Brooks is always in a better mood when he’s been outside for a couple of hours,” Ashlyn says.

Jake, who once played for the Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins, comes from a long line of turkey farmers on his father’s side. He understands the value of time spent outdoors.

“I remember being on the family farm in southern Indiana over the summers. It just felt awesome being outside and being with the animals,” he says. “For me, this is a way I’m using my family’s history to help as many people as possible.”

The couple also hopes the ranch can serve as a place to employ adults with Down syndrome, autism and other disabilities.

“Whether that’s being a ranch hand on the farm or working in a farm-to-table restaurant, we want to give them that opportunity,” Jake says.

The reaction to The Burger Family Foundation has been overwhelmingly positive.

“The Rangers have been incredible in trying to get us as much support as possible,” Jake says. “It’s also been amazing seeing the love and support not only from the Down syndrome community, but also from people all across the country.”

Donations can be made through the foundation’s website, where people can also purchase apparel featuring “Burger 21.” Jake chose to wear No. 21 in recognition of Trisomy 21, the extra chromosome that causes Down syndrome.

Families and individuals in need of assistance can apply through an online application process on the website.

“Like a traditional grant system, applications will go before a board and they will vote,” Jake says.

He added: “We’re kind of standing on the shoulders of giants—Best Buddies, GiGi’s Playhouse, BrightStone and The Brett Boyer Foundation—all these incredible organizations and foundations that came before us.”

Jake is grateful that Tennessee is progressive when it comes to supporting children with disabilities.

“They have great early intervention services that they pay for, but sometimes there are extras that aren’t covered by the state or personal insurance,” he says.

Ashlyn explained that children with Down syndrome have a high occurrence of certain medical conditions, including congenital heart disease and hearing loss.

When she speaks about their mission, Ashlyn gets emotional.

“I see a different side than Jake gets to see because I’m sitting in the stands when he’s playing. So many people come up to me and say thank you for being so vocal about how incredible our children are,” she says. “I feel really blessed that God chose us to have this job and to have given us Penelope. It’s an unexpected beauty—having a child with Down syndrome. It’s a calling, not just a chromosome.”

MOVING MADE PERSONAL

ARTICLE BY LAUREN KELLY | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Home-Aid Moving got its start in 2019 with a simple goal: to serve people—not just complete a job.

Founder William Turner says, “I found early on that the moving industry was often rushed, careless and transactional. I wanted to flip that on its head and build a company rooted in care, professionalism and people-first service. We started small, operating on the speed of cash, and put everything we had into every job. It wasn’t easy, but the response was overwhelming. People wanted a better experience, and we are proud to deliver it.”

After moving back from college and expecting their first child, Turner and his wife, set out to create something meaningful.

“I took my moving knowledge and college degree and poured it into creating a business that would serve others, support our family and make a real difference in our community,” he says. “Moving is such a personal, often stressful life moment, and we treat it with the respect it deserves. This isn’t just about lifting furniture. It’s about protecting what matters most to families, giving people peace of mind and showing up with integrity. We have always believed that kindness, hard work and real connection can transform what moving feels like. That’s our heartbeat.”

Today, the team is focused on growth while staying true to its roots.

“We’re focused on scaling without losing what made us special,” Turner says. “That means more structured training for our team, more backend support and more community partnerships—especially with realtors, builders, business owners and senior living centers. We’ve been fortunate to scale significantly over the past few years, and one of our big goals is to continue putting more trucks on the road so we can serve even more clients daily. By the beginning of next year, we’re planning to move into a large warehouse that will allow us to offer long-term storage solutions, a major step forward in serving our clients even better.”

And while the company is expanding, small moves still hold big meaning.

Care and efficiency in every move
“WE LOVE SMALLER MOVES. NOT EVERY MOVE HAS TO BE A MASSIVE RELOCATION FOR IT TO MATTER. WHETHER IT’S ONE ROOM, ONE ITEM OR ONE LOAD TO STORAGE, WE SHOW UP WITH THE SAME PROFESSIONALISM AND CARE.”
Service for small and large moves

“We love smaller moves. Not every move has to be a massive relocation for it to matter. Whether it’s one room, one item or one load to storage, we show up with the same professionalism and care. Smaller moves are often the most meaningful—from helping a parent downsize to getting newlyweds into their first home or just lending a hand when someone needs it. While we specialize in large, high-end relocations, smaller moves allow us to stay flexible and fill in our schedule when we’re able, and we’re always happy to help however we can.”

What sets Home-Aid apart is its people-first approach and high standards.

“We’re clean-cut, professional and highly trained. We're not just guys with a truck. We protect homes like they’re our own, communicate clearly and show up on time. We also treat clients like people. There’s no pushy sales pitch—just honest, transparent service. Since we’re locally owned and operated, there's a genuine sense of care and accountability in every job."

Weekly Weight Loss Injections

“We’ve been called the ‘Chick-fil-A of movers’ more than once, and we take that to heart. Honesty, kindness, going the extra mile and continuous learning are the values we believe in and work from. They’re our pillars. Leading with those values has made our team more than just movers. They’ve become dependable professionals who clients can truly trust. We don’t take shortcuts, we don’t overpromise and we always listen. That kind of culture shows up in every handshake, every padded piece of furniture and every positive review. It’s not just what we do, but it’s how we do it that makes the difference.”

LUKE BRYAN RECEIVES $1,000,000 COMMITMENT FROM RAISING CANE’S OWNER AND FOUNDER TODD GRAVES FOR THE BRETT BOYER FOUNDATION

Generosity Abounds

Luke Bryan proved that “Most People Are Good” as he joined Raising Cane’s founder and CEO Todd Graves to celebrate a $1 million donation from Raising Cane’s to The Brett Boyer Foundation. The foundation was co-founded by Bryan alongside his wife, Caroline, and her brother and sister-in-law, Bo and Ellen Boyer.

The Brett Boyer Foundation was created in loving memory of Ellen and Bo’s first child, Sadie Brett Boyer, who was diagnosed prenatally with Down syndrome and a congenital heart defect (CHD). Sadie lived seven inspiring months, and her legacy fuels the foundation’s mission: to fund CHD research, support families, and celebrate the Down syndrome community. The foundation was founded in 2017 and continues to grow in impact and reach.

Franklin Lifestyle caught up with Bryan and Graves during a recent press conference about the donation. The following is excerpted from the event.

REPORTER: LUKE, WHERE DOES THIS MILLION-DOLLAR MOMENT RANK IN YOUR CAREER?

Well, this is tremendous. I've watched our foundation grow with people working behind the scenes — and now people stepping up like Todd and Raising Cane’s. I know the folks at The Brett Boyer Foundation are working tirelessly to make sure this million-dollar donation directly helps families dealing with children who have congenital heart disease.

A couple of months ago, we knew there were 36 kids alive today because of what we’re doing. And in 10 years, there may be hundreds, if not thousands. This is a huge donation. Todd was inspired by our work. Raising Cane’s is a great brand and company to be associated with. He and I have become friends through this, and I hope we continue doing great things together.

REPORTER: TODD, YOUR COMPANY IS KNOWN FOR BEING COMMUNITY-FIRST. WHY WAS IT IMPORTANT TO SPREAD THIS DONATION OVER FOUR YEARS, AND HOW DO YOU PLAN TO KEEP THE LEGACY ALIVE?

Giving money is the easy part — we work hard and we make it so we can give. But it’s about using the resources we have across the country. We’ve got around 900 locations and reach hundreds of millions through our traffic, billboards, and TV audience. So instead of just writing a check, we’re doing a collaboration — and not just with other brands, but for charity.

Doing this over four years reinforces it. Every year, for two weeks, we’ll be sharing the message across all channels. That consistent exposure helps build awareness, creates impact, and ensures the legacy continues.

REPORTER: LUKE, WHAT HAS YOUR WORK WITH THE FOUNDATION TAUGHT YOU?

It’s taught me that congenital heart disease in children doesn’t get talked about enough. As we’ve brought more awareness, I’ve had so many friends my age say they were born with heart issues that they’ve had to monitor throughout life.

This is especially prevalent in the Down syndrome community. And when you’re dealing with a heart the size of a raspberry, even small medical advances can make a huge difference. Just getting these kids through those early stages allows them to reach the next phase of life — and that gives them a real shot at a full, healthy future.

I hear my sister-in-law and the team talk about this stuff with such depth. They know hearts like Todd knows chicken and I know country music. It’s been amazing watching this mission grow.

CONTINUED >

REPORTER: WHAT KIND OF IMPACT ARE YOU HOPING THIS INITIATIVE HAS — NOT JUST FINANCIALLY, BUT EMOTIONALLY?

Luke: Families dealing with CHD are going through so much. I remember when we were in the hospital with Brett. Right now, hospitals everywhere are filled with families who don’t know what the future holds for their child. The stress, the uncertainty, it’s overwhelming.

From navigating medical machines like ECMO — which I didn’t even know existed — to dealing with grief and emotional strain, it’s a massive challenge. And it affects the whole family, including siblings.

If The Brett Boyer Foundation can be a source of hope and support, and if we can help families feel just a little less alone, then that’s what it’s all about. This started small, but thanks to partners like Todd, it’s growing — and we’re just getting started.

Todd: Yes — this is about more than one donation. It’s about awareness around CHD and celebrating the Down syndrome community as a whole. That means better care, better facilities, better education, and just more support overall.

I don’t understand all the science behind it, but I know the people doing this work are incredibly smart and deeply committed. When someone like Luke speaks up, people listen. That opens the door for others to talk about it too.

Sometimes these things don’t come up in casual conversation, but when they do, you find out how many people are affected. Supporting a cause like this — it’s a beautiful thing.

From Coffee Beans TO COPPER STILLS

When Jeff Arnett left his nearly two-decade career at Jack Daniel’s, where he served in the prestigious role of master distiller, he wasn’t walking away from whiskey. He was walking toward something new. Something personal. Something made for good company.

Enter Company Distilling, Arnett’s exciting new venture based in Thompson’s Station, with additional outposts in Townsend and Lynchburg—just down the street from his former employer.

“I had been contemplating whether I wanted to do something else, something for myself,” Arnett says. “An opportunity came about where I could build my own distillery, my own brand. I knew myself well enough to know I’d probably regret it if I didn’t believe in myself enough to give it a shot.”

Arnett’s road to whiskey wasn’t a straight shot. A Jackson, Tennessee native, he originally set his sights on the automotive industry until a hiring freeze rerouted him to Procter & Gamble. There, he cut his teeth at the Folgers coffee plant in New Orleans, learning the intricacies of flavor evaluation—acidity, bitterness, body—all skills that would later come in handy with whiskey.

After stints managing decaffeination and dairy-style production plants (yes, he once helped make Hawaiian Punch and SunnyD), Arnett eventually found his way back home to Tennessee, landing a post in Jackson making Pringles. Soon enough, he shared a résumé with a Nashville headhunter, who helped him land a job in quality control at Jack Daniel’s. The rest, as they say, is history.

“When the master distiller before me, who had been with the company for about 40 years, decided to retire, they asked me to serve in that role,” he says. “I was responsible for overseeing all the whiskey production for Jack Daniel's.” As the de facto voice and face of the brand, Arnett traveled to 41 countries on its behalf.

Then the opportunity for his own brand began to take shape. The idea behind Company Distilling was simple: create spirits that feel like an invitation, whether you’re new to whiskey or a seasoned aficionado.

“I called it ‘approachable complexity,’” he says. “Can you create a single bottle that the new drinker and the mature drinker can both enjoy equally?”

The flagship whiskey is a wheated bourbon finished with maple wood, a nod to Arnett’s passion for wood finishes that go beyond the traditional oak barrel. Company Distilling also offers an apple wood-finished whiskey, a cherry wood-finished rye, and is experimenting with other woods nodding to the land around them (stay tuned for a mulberry product in honor of Lynchburg).

The brand began in Thompson’s Station, offering a neighborly vibe perfect for walking up, grabbing a cocktail and chatting with old friends. Company Distilling acquired H Clark Distillery in 2020 and planted roots that have grown to two additional locations.

Jeff Arnett

Townsend, a quaint riverside town on the peaceful side of the Smokies, deviates from Thompson’s Station by serving as a “brewstillery.” With so many campers, hikers and outdoor adventurers in the area, it was important to offer a cold beer to cool off after a day outside.

And then there’s Lynchburg, a brand-new destination distillery just down the street from Arnett’s former employer. He hopes Company Distilling complements its neighbor Jack, offering a casual hangout for visitors to keep the spirits flowing after a guided tour.

In addition to its award-winning bourbons and craft beers, Company Distilling also produces Nothing Vodka, a cheeky, affordable vodka brand perfect for spiking a little orange juice around the campfire. There’s also an award-winning gin (produced on the same still from the former H Clark Distillery) and a lineup of eight flavored moonshines under the Ace Gap label, paying tribute to Tennessee’s rich logging and moonshining history.

“If you’ve got a cooler with some cups, milk, lemonade or limeade, we can basically pair up a bottle with that and you can make something that tastes pretty nice,” he says.

With three diverse distilleries in the market, Arnett encourages people to visit them all: gather with friends in Thompson’s Station, head to Lynchburg for a Jack Daniel’s tour followed by a cocktail, then truck it to Townsend for a hike cooled down with a cold beer.

Entertainment Personality Joe Breezy

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Joe Breezy has become one of Nashville’s most recognizable on-air personalities. The seasoned entertainment pro brings his brand of energy and humor to Middle Tennessee’s airwaves every weekday. But his influence goes beyond radio and TV. Breezy is also a fixture at local events and a passionate advocate for the community.

ON AIR AND ON POINT

With the neighbor's dog, Dizzi
“I’M ON THE AIR MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. I DO AFTERNOON DRIVE TIME
FROM 4-7 P.M. WE’RE AN UPBEAT, FEEL-GOOD, HIT-DRIVEN RADIO STATION.”

HOW DID YOU GET INTO RADIO?

When I was a kid, I always loved radio. I was the kid that was calling the DJs, and requesting songs, and my mom would take me to the different radio station events to meet the DJs. I just thought there was something really cool and intriguing about the DJs that were on the air. It was a consistent friend that I could rely on that played my favorite songs, and just made me feel alive. I remember winning contests when I was a kid, and all the DJs knew my name. When I told them, 'I want to be an on-air DJ when I grow up,' they said 'No kid, don't do it. Get a real job. This is fun, but get a real job.' I was like, 'I don't know, a real job doesn't sound like too much fun. I want to do this.' So I started interning in radio right out of high school. I actually became a certified EMT at the same time when I was interning in radio. And then I got offered a paid gig in radio and I was like, 'Well, this seems a lot more fun. Let me just see how long I can keep this going.' And it's been over 25 years now.

TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR SHOW NOW. WHAT DO YOU COVER?

I'm on the air Monday through Friday. I do afternoon drive time from 4-7 p.m. We're an upbeat, feel-good, hit-driven radio station. So every time you put on the radio, you're going to hear a song you know that makes you feel good. We play the best of the 80s, the 90s, the stuff today. And just stuff that's just kind of warm, whether it's Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, but also Sabrina Carpenter, and Taylor Swift, and that kind of stuff. So we're really big with obviously the at work audience, but also the active moms, and the people with families that they're zipping around, and picking up their kids from soccer practice, and they still want to go to the movies at night, or a concert, or still go to a festival that we're doing on the weekends. Very community-driven, which is awesome

WHAT WAS THE SEGUE THAT BROUGHT YOU INTO TV?

Our TV partner, WKRN, where Danielle works, and Mix 92.9 have always had a partnership. Their meteorologists do weather on the radio, and then in return they'll play our commercials. The general manager at the time, Tracy Rogers, was starting a lifestyle and entertainment show. She saw me and gave me an opportunity to be the pop culture correspondent, which is what I do now. Joe Breezy

ON-AIR PERSONALITY

Joe Breezy is an accomplished on-air personality who currently hosts afternoons on Mix 92.9. Breezy's career stops prior to landing in Nashville, include San Francisco, Atlanta, Phoenix, San Diego and Boston. In addition, he hosts a nationally syndicated show, Open House Party and also serves as the pop culture correspondent on the daily entertainment and lifestyle show, Local on 2 on ABC affiliate WKRN.

You can find Joe and his wife, chief meteorologist Danielle Breezy, around town checking out the hottest events, concerts, new restaurants and helping people and pets with their charitable work. Breezy's love of nature and wellness is why he spends most of his free time outdoors, working out, meditating, and just having fun.

HAD YOU EVER PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT ABOUT TV?

Not really. I kind of avoided it. I feel like I could have given it a shot, and might've gotten a bite or something, but it I didn't want to go there. I'm a radio guy. TV was intense. Those first six months nerves were going. I'm visibly sweating, and my lips are shaking when I'm on TV. But I saw it as an exciting challenge. The benefit is unreal. I mean, the exposure. And it speaks very well to radio to what I do, and radio speaks well to TV. So they complement each other really well. And it's a fun show. The hosts, Laura Schweizer and Stephanie Langston, are awesome, and it's just a fun crew to be a part of. I talk about different events and pop culture. It's a good life-work balance, and a good one-two combo professionally.

DO YOU PREFER ONE MEDIUM TO THE OTHER?

I sincerely enjoy doing both. Radio's in my blood. I think at the end of the day I'm just a radio guy who loves creating moments for our listeners by playing their favorite songs, and giving out really cool prizes. And getting to know our listeners so they know that they have a friend, and a companion on their favorite radio station, that cares about what they care about. But TV is just a thrill. It is so much fun. And it's a blast.

I KNOW YOU AND DANIELLE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT GIVING BACK. TELL ME ABOUT SOME OF THE CHARITIES THAT YOU WORK WITH.

As cliche as it sounds, I know I'm fortunate to have a platform. And I feel there's a responsibility with that, to use your platform for good. I've worked hand-in-hand with the American Cancer Society over the years. I've done the Real Men Wear Pink campaign a few times. That's definitely something that's near and dear to my heart. The National Humane Association as well. They're just great people. And we love dogs, we love our furry friends. I've also consistently work with the Rally Foundation, Better Business Bureau of Middle Tennessee and St. Jude.

TELL ME SOMETHING YOU LOVE ABOUT FRANKLIN.

I love the people here. Plenty of people that work in my building live in Franklin, so we'll do gatherings over there. And I hate to say wholesome, because it sounds a little cheesy, but it's wholesome. It's a breath of fresh air. Spending time in Franklin, and meeting people in Franklin, and getting to know the local businesses and supporting them. That's something that I really care about too. I love the way Franklin is its own city. It's just really well-kept. All the nature, the rolling hills, the flowers, all that stuff.

SMOKING HOT Success

A Saucy Journey To Barbecue Glory

Carey Bringle, III

Pitmaster, Business Owner and Entrepreneur

With three barbecue restaurants under his belt and a partnership in a local deli, Bringle's entrepreneurial ventures are expanding. As he propels the Peg Leg Porker Brand to international heights, expect to see more of Carey Bringle. His unstoppable drive spans barbecue, bourbon, literature, food products, and clothing. The Peg Leg Porker brand embodies excellence and fosters a tightknit barbecue community. Bringle's philosophy encapsulates that spirit: "It's not a requirement for you to hate someone else's barbecue in order to love mine."

Born and raised in Nashville, Carey Bringle grew up with a deep appreciation for barbecue. “Although my family was not in the business originally, it was something always highly regarded,” says Bringle. His grandfather, Jack, helped deliver babies for families in the barbecue business. Jack, along with Bringle’s grandmothers and his uncle Bruce, inspired him to start cooking with them in the backyard at a young age.

In his early 20s, Bringle competed in Memphis in May, a prestigious barbecue competition. His uncle had competed in the very first event, and Carey proudly carried on the tradition after joining his future wife’s cousin’s team.

“I loved it and ended up competing regularly for 31 years,” he says. Last year, Bringle helped launch Smoke Slam, a new barbecue showdown and festival in Memphis, further cementing his influence on the scene.

From the beginning of his career, Bringle crafted his own rubs and sauces. He initially bottled them for family and friends, but they eventually became the foundation for his restaurant, Peg Leg Porker, which opened in 2013 in Nashville. The name reflects Bringle, who lost his leg while successfully battling cancer.

“A lot of barbecue restaurants try to do everything for everyone,” says Bringle. “We focus on traditional West Tennessee-style barbecue, namely pulled pork and chicken.” Tennessee barbecue varies from other styles in the way it is served and cooked: it has a tomato base, is cooked with hickory, and is always pulled. For brisket lovers, Bringle opened a Texas-style barbecue joint, Bringle’s Smoking Oasis, also in Nashville. Whichever style you prefer, Bringle’s rubs and sauces are now available at retailers like Kroger.

Bringle’s expertise goes beyond the kitchen. He wrote BBQ for Dummies to help beginners and developed his own bourbon. The Tasting Alliance recognized Peg Leg Porker Straight Bourbon as the World’s Best Bourbon in 2023, another testament to his craftsmanship.

Through it all, Bringle remains grounded in his roots, blending tradition, innovation, and a lifelong dedication to barbecue.

START SIMPLE AND MASTER THE BASICS

Bringle advises against overcomplicating your barbecue. Begin with basic seasonings like salt and pepper, and focus on achieving tender, juicy meat before experimenting with complex flavors.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT WOOD FOR SMOKING

Selecting the appropriate wood is crucial for flavor. Bringle emphasizes the importance of using quality wood to enhance the taste of your barbecue.

MAINTAIN CONSISTENT HEAT

Consistent heat is key to successful barbecue. Bringle recommends ensuring your grill or smoker maintains a steady temperature throughout the cooking process.

USE QUALITY MEAT CUTS

Opt for forgiving cuts like pork shoulder and brisket, which yield better results when barbecued.

REHEAT GENTLY

When reheating barbecue, do so slowly at a low temperature to preserve moisture and flavor.

EXPERIMENT WITH SAUCES AND RUBS

Bringle provides recipes for various sauces and rubs in his newsletter, encouraging experimentation to find your preferred flavor profiles.

THE DOCTOR OF COFFEE

HOW A PASSION TURNED INTO FRANKLIN COFFEE COMPANY

ARTICLE BY KATHLEEN DAVIS | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Every morning, many people reach for their first cup of coffee—a daily ritual that fuels the hustle of crying babies, school drop-offs, and morning workloads. Living in Franklin, we’re lucky to have great coffee options, including one from Doctor Terry Hadaway, better known as the "Doctor of Coffee."

Hadaway holds an associate degree in engineering, a bachelor’s degree in religion, a master’s in higher education, and a doctorate in adult education. He currently serves as director of the Center for Innovative Instruction and Online Learning at Trevecca Nazarene University.

Roasting coffee became a natural hobby for Hadaway. “I don't remember a time when coffee wasn't a part of my life. My parents were coffee drinkers. I often joke they probably put coffee in my baby bottle,” he says.

In the late 1990s, Hadaway began roasting his own beans. “I bought a small fluid bed roaster and some green beans. The first batch was terrible, but I kept trying,” he says. After countless attempts and some trial and error, the coffee began tasting good enough to share with family and friends.

Over the years, Hadaway upgraded his equipment and continued refining his craft. Encouraged by positive feedback, he knew he was on to something. When he moved to Franklin in 2015, he noticed that no one had claimed the name Franklin Coffee Company. He quickly secured the domain, registered the trademark, and waited for the right time to launch.

Terry Hadaway

Three years ago, Hadaway officially introduced Franklin Coffee Company, first selling online and later at The Factory’s Wednesday farmers market. Although he no longer sells at the market, he continues offering his coffee online and has shifted his focus toward white-labeling—helping businesses and organizations customize their own branded bags of coffee. “I believe small businesses and organizations can benefit from unique corporate gifts and swag," Hadaway says. "White-labeling coffee is a low-risk, cost-effective way to expand a brand, capitalize on coffee’s popularity, and deliver a quality product while focusing on customer experience." Whether it’s a business, church, or nonprofit, custom-labeled coffee offers a creative way to spread the word, and Franklin Coffee Company is here to make it happen.

Roasting technique : Each bean type is carefully roasted to bring out its best characteristics—fruity, nutty, or floral.

Freshness : Beans are roasted on-demand and sold shortly after, preserving peak flavor.

Attention to detail: Every batch is tasted and adjusted by hand, ensuring the best outcome.

“I wanted to develop coffee that represents the excellence associated with Franklin.”

Beyond the branding opportunity, Franklin Coffee Company stands out as a true small-batch, artisan roaster, offering a higher quality product for several reasons:

Batch size and control: Small-batch roasting ensures consistency and highlights unique flavor profiles.

Bean quality and sourcing : Hadaway sources high-quality, single-origin beans, focusing on freshness and traceability.

Flavor diversity: Artisan roasting offers a wide range of distinct flavors shaped by the bean’s origin and roast style. What started as a personal passion has grown into a respected local business. “I never wanted to own a coffee shop. We have plenty of great ones, and I’m friends with some of the owners,”  Hadaway says. “I wanted to develop coffee that represents the excellence associated with Franklin. I never want to copy what others are doing, because that just makes one of us unnecessary.”

Today, Franklin Coffee Company continues to embody Hadaway’s original vision: exceptional coffee, carefully crafted, and proudly representing the spirit of Franklin.

HOW WILLIAMSON HEALTH IS RISING TO MEET THE GROWING HEALTHCARE NEEDS OF WILLIAMSON COUNTY AND BEYOND

GROWING TO SERVE

With Williamson Medical Center’s Boyer-Bryan West Tower rising above the skyline, it’s clear that Williamson Health continues to elevate excellence in health care throughout Williamson County and beyond.

However, the recently completed West Tower is just one of many ways the regional health care system is growing to serve our rapidly expanding and thriving region. Over the last year, Williamson Health has celebrated numerous milestones that reflect its ongoing commitment to providing exceptional healthcare close to home.

MILESTONE 1: CELEBRATING THE BOYER-BRYAN WEST TOWER

Completed last summer, the newly expanded Boyer-Bryan West Tower added three floors to the original structure, plus a new wing encompassing all six floors—totaling nearly 175,000 square feet and 134 new patient beds. It now includes a 35-bed ICU, 94 medical-surgical inpatient rooms and 10 pediatric inpatient rooms.

All part of the historic expansion and renovation project Williamson Medical Center launched in 2022, the tower also features a fully renovated and expanded obstetrics and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with 33 total patient rooms and nine private NICU bays, a spacious well-baby nursery, and three C-section rooms.

“Our goal is to provide top-tier care to all residents of Williamson County and the surrounding region,” says Phil Mazzuca, Williamson Health CEO. “This expansion plays a vital role in achieving that goal.”

The recent enhancements have already made a meaningful impact on patients from Williamson County and nearby areas. Since the grand opening of the Boyer-Bryan West Tower last June, Williamson Medical Center has seen a notable increase in patient volume, as well as its ability to care for more complex cases—close to home. The facility consistently receives high praise for its beautiful, spacious and thoughtfully designed new spaces.

MILESTONE 2: ELEVATING CARDIAC CARE

Williamson Health continues to expand access to advanced, high-quality heart care across the region and has earned recognition for clinical excellence in a wide range of cardiology services.

The cardiology department features cardiac specialists with extensive experience in prevention, intervention and heart failure. The health system also offers an evidence-based chest pain program, cardiac stress testing, an accredited cardiac rehab program, a pulmonary rehab program, and more.

In addition, the world-class Cardiac Center includes two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs, an electrophysiology lab, and cutting-edge technologies that provide realtime, high-resolution imaging of the heart and blood flow.

Last May, Williamson Medical Center earned designation as a Primary Heart Attack Center by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association—a certification recognizing the hospital’s rapid-response capabilities and dedication to improving heart health outcomes.

MILESTONE 3: EXPANDING ACCESS TO EXCEPTIONAL CARE

Williamson Health’s services now extend throughout the region, including the recent opening of its newest clinic location in Spring Hill. The clinic offers primary care and specialty services, a general healthcare walk-in clinic, and laboratory services. It also includes Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee orthopaedic urgent care, a physician’s clinic and physical therapy.

Spring Hill residents now benefit from access to advanced practice providers across a wide spectrum of health care needs, including orthopaedic injuries and conditions. The clinic is located at the corner of Port Royal and Duplex roads.

MILESTONE 4: HELPING PATIENTS SLEEP A LITTLE EASIER

Serving patients since 1995, the Williamson Health Sleep Lab helps make better sleep possible for people across Williamson County and beyond. The nationally accredited lab recently added a fifth bedroom, allowing board-certified sleep physicians to see more patients each month. Along with fresh cosmetic upgrades, such as new furnishings, lighting and bedding, the lab now features state-of-the-art sleep study equipment and expanded in-home testing capabilities.

MILESTONE 5: DELIVERING HOPE

Reflecting Williamson Health’s commitment to specialized care close to home, the Williamson Health Medical Group recently welcomed maternal-fetal specialists Chelsea Clinton, M.D., and Michael DeRoche, M.D., to its growing provider team.

Board-certified in both obstetrics-gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine, Drs. Clinton and DeRoche offer comprehensive care for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies and their unborn babies.

High-risk pregnancies involve increased risk of complications before, during or after birth, often due to maternal conditions such as hypertension or autoimmune disorders, or fetal issues like growth restriction. These specialists collaborate with a mother’s existing care team, tailoring individualized care plans—whether delivery is planned at Williamson Medical Center or elsewhere.

In addition to guiding families through high-risk pregnancies, the specialists also offer advanced gynecological imaging and maternal-fetal obstetrical imaging for both routine and complex pregnancies.

LOOKING AHEAD

Williamson Health remains committed to expanding services and locations to meet the needs of our growing region. The health system now operates more than 30 locations and includes more than 860 physicians and advanced care practitioners across more than 60 specialties and subspecialties.

AMERICAN IDOL ALUMS AND FATHER-DAUGHTER DUO, PHIL AND MCKAYLA STACEY, DETAIL THEIR SPECIAL BOND THROUGH MUSIC

LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER

With a shared passion for music, father-daughter duo Phil and McKayla Stacey prove that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. The 18-year-old has grown to follow in her father’s footsteps. Now residing in Wichita, Kansas, the Staceys credit the magic of Nashville for bringing continuous inspiration to their rising careers.

Like McKayla, Phil also grew up in a musical household. With his father being a touring musician before becoming a pastor in their Kentucky hometown, Phil had a front-row seat to what a career in music looked like and began singing in church and playing instruments at a young age. After graduating high school, he attended Lee University, where he studied vocal performance and joined the school’s music group, the Lee Singers. There, he and his classmates had the opportunity to tour various cities and perform. Following college, Phil joined the Navy and became a singer for the Navy band.

“I

three weeks from her due date, Phil thought he could head to Memphis for one night, audition, and return in plenty of time. But life had other plans.

“I got a phone call around 4 o’clock in the morning and I heard the baby crying in the background,” Phil says. “I thought, ‘You have got to be kidding me!’”

LEARNED FROM THE BEST.”

Landing a spot in the top five on season six, Phil went on to sign a record deal and moved to Nashville in 2007. Raising his daughter in Music City, McKayla grew up on tour buses and practically knew how to sing before she could talk. With a long line of musicians in the family, it was no surprise McKayla would one day chase her own music dreams. In 2014, the Staceys moved to Kansas, but their love for music only grew stronger.

“I toured around with the Navy band until I missed a friend’s wedding, and he said the only way he would forgive me was if I auditioned for this fairly new television show called American Idol,” Phil recalls. “I auditioned, somehow made it on the show, and eventually moved to Nashville.”

Phil’s audition for American Idol was memorable for many reasons. Not only did he get a golden ticket, but it also happened to be the day his daughter, McKayla, was born. With his wife still

“It had always been a bit of an inside joke for me to audition for American Idol one day,” McKayla says, given her father’s history on the show. “When I was a sophomore in high school, I decided to go for it!”

“I was nearly 30 when I was on the show and McKayla was 15—barely old enough to be there,” Phil says, reflecting on watching his daughter perform on the same stage years later. “I was just so proud of her. She tackled it like a champ and did a great job. She looked like a natural!”

Earlier this year, Phil and McKayla released their duet, “More Like Him,” which has already hit the charts and

earned radio play. While Phil began his musical journey in the country genre, he eventually signed with a Christian music label, where he began working with missionaries. That led to church work, and he ultimately became the worship pastor at a church in Kansas.

Since the beginning of the year, Phil and McKayla have traveled to seven countries, performing and sharing their hearts with the world. They wrote and recorded “More Like Him” in Franklin for an organization called Safe Families for Children. Walking alongside families whose children are at risk of entering foster care, Safe Families engages communities, often through churches, to build volunteer networks that help reunite families and reduce the number of children entering the child welfare system.

“People who volunteer for this are essentially saying they don’t need to be comfortable when other people need help,” Phil says. “This inspired us to write a song dedicated to them - seeing all these people show love in a very similar fashion to Jesus.”

This song is only the beginning of what’s to come for Phil and McKayla Stacey. Spending lots of time in the studio, McKayla is excited to release more music soon, including an upcoming track titled “Wasting Our Youth.” Using her voice for good, she hopes to encourage other young adults to follow their faith and know they are never alone in their journey. She’s also excited to spend the next four years at Lee University—another

striking parallel to her father’s story. She plans to major in music business and will tour with the elite a cappella group, the Voices of Lee.

“The music culture in Nashville is so normalized, and I saw so much of it growing up that it’s played a big part in why it feels like the right path for me,” McKayla says.

“That is the culture. It truly feels like music is in the air,” Phil adds. “I love that my kids grew up in Franklin, where you get that sense of pride in music being what we do here.”

BUILDING WITH PURPOSE

HOW SHAREBUILT IS CHANGING THE WAY NONPROFITS BUILD THEIR DREAMS

When nonprofits dream of new spaces, ShareBuilt offers the blueprint, and the bridge, to make it happen.

Founded in 2022 by Franklin resident Steve Kuhn, ShareBuilt was created to solve a problem few people realized even existed: nonprofits often struggle to access professional support when building or renovating facilities. While many architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms are eager to help, there was no system in place to connect them with causes aligned with their values.

“I was stunned to learn there were no organizations anywhere in the country doing this,” Kuhn says. In response, he launched ShareBuilt with a simple but powerful mission: to bridge that gap by connecting nonprofits with AEC professionals willing to lend their expertise at no cost. Rather than operating as a contractor or design firm, ShareBuilt serves as a connector, turning goodwill into real-world impact.

A longtime leader in both his local church and professional circles, Kuhn saw firsthand how many companies were open to serving nonprofits, but in busy markets, these projects were often deprioritized in favor of commercial work. “I wanted nonprofits to have a fair shot at the best resources,” he says, “while giving firms the opportunity to be part of something meaningful.”

CONTINUED >

From the beginning, Franklin and Middle Tennessee played a key role in the organization’s growth. “Middle Tennessee was our launchpad, but the need is universal,” Kuhn says. Organizations like The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee helped provide essential funding to get projects off the ground. ShareBuilt’s model focuses heavily on storytelling, helping nonprofits communicate not just their construction needs, but the deeper impact their buildings will have on the community. “What’s important is that professional firms learn about projects early enough to make an impact,” he says.

Unlike traditional platforms that rely on donated labor, ShareBuilt invites firms to consider where their values and skills intersect with a nonprofit’s mission. “We are bound to find at least one firm in every needed area who really resonates with the cause and the project,” Kuhn says. “Once they’re aware of it, we hope they’ll say, ‘I'm going to be part of that!’”

One recent example is The Refuge Center for Counseling in Franklin. After breaking ground on a $12 million facility, the organization realized it lacked key construction experience to oversee the project. ShareBuilt stepped in, with Kuhn personally shepherding the project through the process. Another local partnership involves The Journey Home in Murfreesboro, a ministry serving the unhoused. ShareBuilt helped finalize design and budget details as the organization prepared to break ground on a new headquarters and resource center.

These aren’t just construction projects—they’re transformational.

Kuhn understands how demanding this work can be for already overextended nonprofit leaders. “They’re overloaded before a project even begins,” he says. “Even if they have experience, they rarely have the margin to oversee it properly.” To help, ShareBuilt deploys seasoned volunteers known as Project Shepherds, industry professionals who walk alongside nonprofit partners from concept to completion. And as a nonprofit itself, ShareBuilt does this at no cost to the nonprofit clients it serves. “It’s what they do every day in their business and what they know so very well that can best serve others,” Kuhn says.

Still, aligning scope, budget, and expectations remains a common challenge. Nonprofit leaders are often excited by early design concepts that may not match financial realities. “It’s essential to align the scope of work, images of the building, and the budget as early as possible,” he says. Even well-intentioned gifts like donated land can bring complications. “What seems like a gift can be a challenge if the property isn’t suitable for the desired project,” he added.

For those wondering how to get involved, Kuhn extends a heartfelt and personal invitation. “Let’s have a conversation,” he says. Whether you're a builder, designer, volunteer, or simply someone who wants to help fund the future of community spaces, ShareBuilt offers a meaningful way to make a difference. As a registered nonprofit, all donations to ShareBuilt are tax-deductible and directly support its mission: “To help us serve those who are serving to accomplish more projects with purpose.”

Ask The Experts

HAVE QUESTIONS? WE'VE GOT ANSWERS

We gathered a panel of local experts to tackle your most commonly asked questions about lice, automobile buying, new home communities, painting, and windows. From common misconceptions to expert tips, they’ve got the answers. Read on to find out what they had to say.

WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT, QUALITY INSTALLATION OR QUALITY WINDOWS?

Both, but if you  had to pick,  quality installation matters more. Even expensive windows can fail if sizing is incorrect, or if installed by someone inexperienced. Most manufacturers require properly certified individuals to install their products to honor warranty.

Cheap windows can still end up with issues like warping, fogging between panes, and poor energy efficiency even if installed perfectly. You want  good windows with a strong warranty— just don't overspend on unneeded upgrades and then underinvest on installation.

• EHI started out as an installation only company.

• Our guys only install windows and doors, every day, full time. Our crew team leaders have been with EHI for over 15 years.

• References and reviews are key.

• Labor process is warranted, separately from the manufacturer’s warranty.  We only install quality products. To do otherwise would be wasting our own time and money.

• Never cut corners on materials. The reality is years of product performance and sparkling windows for years to come.

• Educate, don’t pressure.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO MY HOUSE TO GET RID OF LICE?

• Simply throw your sheets, blankets, and pillow cases you slept on last night in the dryer for about 20 minutes.

• Put hair brushes used in the past 24 hours in the freezer for 3 hours. This will kill the lice without damaging your brushes. The internet has plenty of myths to scare you into essentially bombing your house, but it simply isn't true or necessary.

ONLY CERTAIN PEOPLE OR HAIR TYPES GET LICE.

False. They will happily make themselves at home in anyone's hair: clean, dirty, dry, oily, long, short, straight. The only person exempt from getting lice is someone who is completely bald.

HOW CAN I PREVENT LICE FROM HAPPENING?

It's impossible to completely prevent it, but a few simple ways to reduce your risk include:

• Strong smells. Tea Tree oil, perfumes, hairsprays, and even cinnamon and peppermint are not attractive to lice.

• Wear your hair up and tight. Lice move by using their legs to crawl on two hair strands at a time.

• Lay off the selfies! Putting your heads together to take a selfie is just enough time for lice to crawl from one head to another.

IS THAT YOUR BEST PRICE?

In today's fast-paced car market, informed buyers recognize the value of a transparent, upfront pricing model. With abundant online resources, it is crucial to choose a dealership that clearly presents its best offer upfront, without hidden fees or last-minute negotiations. At Ford of Columbia and Hyundai of Columbia, our pricing is based on real-time market conditions, current supply and demand, sales velocity, and the age of our inventory. This approach ensures that every vehicle is competitively priced and adjusted (re-priced) to align with market changes. We also have a non-commissioned sales team that is paid based on how many cars they sell, not how much they can sell them for. This practice ensures that the sales professional you work with focuses solely on finding a vehicle that fits your needs and budget. Choosing a dealer who operates this way means you can expect a fair, straightforward, and customer-centric car buying experience.

WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT LIVING IN THOMPSON’S STATION?

Thompson’s Station still offers a small-town, country feel, yet is still close to everything you need. Easy access to shopping in Cool Springs (12 minutes north), Historic Downtown Franklin (10 miles north), Downtown Nashville (30 minutes north) and a beautiful drive on Natchez Trace is only a few miles away. Small parks and trails offer all residents options to experience the outdoors and stay close to home.

HOW DO WE MAINTAIN A THRIVING CULTURE WITH OUR TEAM, VENDORS, AND CUSTOMERS?

We find the "why" with every person we encounter. Maintaining a thriving culture with businesses, vendors, and employees is all about building trust, fostering collaboration, and aligning values cohesively across the board, and that's what CertaPro Painters of Nashville and Middle Tennessee is all about.

HOW DO WE GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY?

Heartfelt stories remind us that giving back to the community is an ongoing process, often sparked by personal experiences. We are about nurturing empathy, fostering trust, and showing up for one another when it matters most. True community engagement doesn’t always come with a grand gesture; sometimes, it’s the small, everyday acts of kindness that have the most profound impact.

HEARTSTRINGS & FRANKLIN STREETS

Timothy Wayne, rising country artist—and Tim McGraw’s nephew— opens up about his new single and chasing music down every avenue of Franklin.

TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR NEWEST SINGLE, “THAT’D BE YOU.”

Growing up I was a weird kid playing guitar in the stairwell. One day, a beautiful girl saw me and asked for my number. Not long after that, I left and came here. I called my buddy, Mark Collie, and said, ‘I've got a melody in my head, but I need help with lyrics.’ He connected me with Jamie Moore, and the three of us wrote "That’d Be You." It started as up-tempo but ended up somewhere between that and a ballad. When we laid the demo, we knew it was special. It's been doing pretty good so far.

WHAT IS YOUR WRITING PROCESS LIKE?

I pace around a lot. I'm good with melodies, so I play guitar, record ideas, and save them for sessions. I'm okay with the lyrics, but I’m still working on that. I usually pitch a melody, and when we land on something. I walk the room strumming the same chords until lyrics click. Then we shape it together.

WHAT'S IT LIKE LIVING AND WORKING IN MUSIC AROUND FRANKLIN AND NASHVILLE?

It's amazing. Music's everywhere. From Broadway to street performers in downtown Franklin, it's super inspiring. Now that I'm working in Nashville, I really feel what everyone is chasing.

The Perfect Steak

Nothing describes summer better than a good cookout! And what is a cookout without a good, quality steak and the perfect grilling recipe?

1. Thaw and acclimate the steak. For searing to occur, the proteins in steak need to be heated to at least 310°F. Tossing cold meat onto a hot grill lowers the temperature and can prevent a crust from forming, so it’s important that any frozen steaks are thawed completely before cooking.

2. Salt your steak 30-45 minutes before grilling. This causes the salt to draw moisture from within the steak up to the surface, where it dissolves the salt and creates a brine that gets reabsorbed into the steak where it breaks down tough connective tissues.

3. Oil the grate on the grill, not the steak. Use tongs and a paper towel dipped in vegetable oil to lube your grates.

4. Manage your heat well. Remember that your grill needs to be hot for your steak to get a good sear. But if it’s hot enough to cause your oil to smoke, it’s too hot.

5. Use the 60/40 rule. The best-tasting steaks are seared on both sides and cooked evenly in the middle. The simplest way to do that is to only flip your steak once. The 60/40 rule suggests that 60% of your cook time should be spent on one side, and 40% on the other.

6. Keep the lid closed. It may be tempting to peek, but trust the experts and keep it shut! Opening the lid makes your grill lose heat, which makes steaks cook unevenly.

7. Check for doneness. A meat thermometer will give you the most accurate temperature reading:

• Rare: 120°F

• Medium Rare: 130°F

• Medium: 140°F

• Medium Well: 150°F

• Well: 160°F

8. Let your steak rest. Pull your steaks from the grill once they’re cooked to 5-10 degrees below your target temperature and rest for 10-15 minutes.

SO YOU WANT TO BE A COWBOY

Favorably referred to as the “Last Best Place” and the “Treasure State,” Montana has captured the hearts of cinematic cowboys like Taylor Sheridan and Harrison Ford and inspired the television series, “Yellowstone” and its prequels, “1883” and “1923.” Though fictional, they’ve reminded America of its deeply-rooted spirit for adventure and the simple yet rugged way of life that we all crave. Whether its the backdrop of jagged, snowcapped peaks or the endless golden pastures that are peppered with livestock, this Rocky Mountain soil is a breeding ground for dreamers and doers, and the people who call it home are no strangers to the ritual of ranch life.

So, you want to be a cowboy? Slipping on some leather and having a little hide in your hat are good ways to start, but visiting a resort that brings the best of this life to the forefront, while also embracing modern luxury, is the experience of a lifetime. Personalization is key—a divine selection of cuisine for the foodies, awe-inspiring activities for the adrenaline seekers, and world-class lodging that tickles every fancy from stargazing glamping, to timber-style family dwellings, to the uniquely designed green “o hauses” that invite the outside world in.

WHAT TO DO

To change your attitude, you need a change in altitude. Gain some speed or turn up the adrenaline level with ATV tours, electric biking, mountain biking, go-karts, paintball, rappelling down Lookout Rock or whitewater rafting down the Blackfoot River. Indulge in the western art of living with archery, fly-fishing, hiking or sporting clays. For those who want to immerse themselves in the language of horses, there are horse-related adventures such as lessons, grooming or feeding, horse-whispering workshops or organized trails rides. Riders can also enjoy cattle drives that bring you back to yesteryear—driving a herd of cattle across the famed landscape—and bear witness to mustang gentling, where the Equestrian Manager communicates with a wild horse through body language and tone of voice.
