September; It's Time for Kick-off!
Dear Fayetteville,
September is one of, if not, my favorite months of the year. The weather sets the tone as you feel crisper Fall winds entering the air, and foliage in Arkansas begins its early color peaking towards the end of the month. It’s a time that reminds us why Fayetteville is such a beloved place to call home.
Of course, fall in Fayetteville also means football. Razorback season kicks off with big energy, and none bigger than hosting Notre Dame at home on September 27. It’s a weekend when the red carpet quite literally rolls out, and the city buzzes with the joy of reunions, tailgates, and hosting family and friends in town for a weekend.
But September isn’t just about football. It’s also a time to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit that fuels Northwest Arkansas. Startup Crawl , hosted by Startup Junkie on the Downtown Square, returns to spotlight the bold and innovative businesses rising right here in NWA. We loved being a part of it last year and are excited to see what’s brewing this time around.
In these pages of our September Style Issue, we explore stories that go beyond style and fashion. Mark Zweig opens the doors to his masterfully remodeled vintage home, blending modern style with mid-century charm. You know a Zweig remodel when you see one! We then meet with Celeste Hoskins of Southern Loft who shares her journey and approach to styling spaces that feel make it feel like home. You’ll also meet Maura Griesse of Called by Colors, who shows us how color analysis can uncover your truest tones and build your confidence.
We visit Uptown Eyes, where custom eyewear meets elevated style, and get moving with Chemical Fitness, the newest gym proving sweat and style can go hand in hand. Finally, we dive into sustainable fashion with Professor Lance Cheramie of the University of Arkansas, who shares thoughtful insight into building a more responsible future in fashion.
We at FCL appreciate you Fayetteville and know It is going to be one heck of a September; all we need to do is set up the tee and kick things off!
Thank you,
September 2025

LOFTY IDEAS
From the moment you step inside Southern Loft, the invitation to be inspired is almost tangible. The space hums with personality amidst vivid color palettes, layered textures, and thoughtfully arranged vignettes that invite you to linger. At the heart of it all is Celeste Hoskins, the creative force behind

the store. Known for her intentionality, insightful questions, and warm, relational demeanor, Celeste has become one of Fayetteville’s most distinctive voices in home interiors. Her philosophy centers on purposeful design: creating spaces that reflect both beauty and function, with a deep understanding of how people truly live.
Celeste’s story didn’t begin with sofas or swatches. Her journey into the design world started during her college years, when she began helping people organize and style their homes to support herself through nursing school. “It was never just about the stuff,” she recalls. “It was about how space could serve them better.” With parents rooted in real estate and
construction, Celeste was immersed early in the belief that one’s environment can truly shape your life. While she felt deeply connected to the caregiving nature of nursing, it was ultimately the desire for more presence in her family life that led her to reconsider her career path. “Becoming a mom changed everything,” she reflects. “I wanted a life that allowed me to be at the choir concerts and the softball games.” It was that pursuit of harmony between caregiving and creativity that laid the groundwork for Southern Loft, which she opened in 2016. What began as a practical pivot has since blossomed into a deeply personal calling: creating spaces that help people feel not just styled, but supported in the process of furnishing a home.
Celeste Hoskins, Owner
At the heart of Southern Loft is Celeste’s desire for people to stay awhile. The art of furnishing a space calls for unhurried shopping—a conscious, intentional process that encourages customers to understand the purpose behind each piece. “We want people to shop for furniture like they shop for shoes. You don’t wear heels to play football,” she states. For Celeste, comfort comes first, then function, scale, and finally color. It’s not about what looks good in a photo; it’s about what works for the life someone actually leads. “You have to ask: what problem is this solving? Is this piece actually right for your life?” Her approach challenges the belief that style must be impractical, proving instead that thoughtful design can be both beautiful and livable.
Celeste’s stylistic flair is deeply rooted in her love for Fayetteville, a community she credits with shaping her both as a designer and business owner. She openly acknowledges how the city offered her a space free from rigid expectations that allowed her to take time to develop her own unique style. The welcoming environment of Northwest Arkansas helped her aesthetic fully blossom. Her design inspiration doesn’t come from glossy catalogs or social media trends. Instead, it comes from the outdoors. “I love to bike. Sometimes I’ll be on the trail or out on the lake, and a color will hit me and I’ll bring that color into the store.” Her organic approach also informs the advice she gives to customers. For those just starting to define their style, she urges them to dig deeper. “Cultivate relationships. Pay attention to what you’re drawn to—not just what your phone is showing you. Style is personal. Trends are loud, but style whispers.”
“Trends are everywhere, loud, fleeting, and constantly shifting. Style, on the other hand, is uncovered slowly through reflection and experience. While trends may influence it, true style is deeply personal. I aim to uncover style.”
The name “Southern Loft” reflects the warmth of Southern hospitality paired with the clean, airy modernism of a loft-like setting. “There’s no rush here. We want you to walk in and take your time—to think, to feel, to connect with what you need.” What truly sets Celeste apart is her heart. She refuses to pressure customers into purchases, even if it means walking away without a sale. “I care about the
person first. I want them to find what’s right, not just what’s available.” In a world where shopping often feels rushed and impersonal, Southern Loft offers a space where creativity thrives, community is honored, and every purchase has a purpose. And at the center of it all is Celeste, who proves that great style isn’t about following the latest trend, but about creating a space that feels like home.

EVER TRY ON AN OUTFIT THAT JUST DOESN’T FEEL RIGHT?
Maura Griesse, Owner
At Called By Colors, Maura Griesse believes shopping should be less about guessing and more about knowing your colors. The majority of the time, it’s not the fit of a clothing item that’s the problem; it’s the color. That’s where color analysis comes in. When you understand which colors flatter your unique undertone and how to pair them, you shop with confidence, waste less, and build a wardrobe that truly works for you.
From photography to graduating with an art degree, Called By Colors owner Maura Griesse has seen just about every type of color industry there is. After gaining immense knowledge from past experiences, Maura knew this job would be something that would come naturally for her. Being an artist can come in many different forms, and without a doubt, color analysis takes a creative mind. With the recent opening of the small, local business in February 2025, Griesse has seen herself grow, along with the confidence in her clients. “There’s a 45-hour educational course you can go through to enhance your skills,” says Maura. She also followed a few social media accounts that boosted her interest in starting this type of business, which ultimately helped her take the leap of faith to launch it. Since then, Maura has taught herself some of her skills through practice and personal development. Called By Colors has now gained attention across all of NWA and is evolving each month. Maura has goals she hopes to reach this year, and additions she would like to add to her services.
ARTICLE BY HAILEY SMITH | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANDREA PRUITT
Let’s talk about how to master personal colors with clothing—and never second-guess a purchase again. So, what is Color Analysis? In fashion terms, this is selecting precise clothing colors that complement your skin tone, eyes, and hair color, along with finding what aligns best with your mood and style.
Knowing what you look best in will also make you feel best. It’s the difference between wearing clothes and wearing yourself with confidence.
Your skin undertone is the secret weapon for choosing the right colors. It’s not about how light or dark your skin is— it’s about the subtle hue underneath the surface. If you have a warm undertone, you will look best in earthy tones. Some examples of these are olive green, terracotta, and warm peach. If you have a cool undertone, you will shine in silver and icy blues.
Another key step is building a color palette within your closet. Knowing your tones makes shopping a breeze. Instead of grabbing random items, build a palette of intentional, mixable pieces. To do this, choose a neutral base that best fits your undertone. Then, add a couple of signature colors you favor and feel most like yourself in.
Once you have gone through the color review process, you will be given a digital palette of the best color choices for you. Before completing any clothing purchases, make sure to check your easy-to-use palette.
“Helping people to feel more seen, more vibrant, and—most importantly— themselves, is what Called By Colors is all about.”
“I love getting to witness the transformations, not just in appearance, but in confidence. There’s always this moment when clients see themselves in the right colors. Their face lights up, and their posture shifts. It’s beautiful to watch someone see themselves and feel empowered.”
There are many advantages to having color analysis done for yourself or your children. When you know what you physically look best in, your mental and emotional well-being can greatly improve. Your mind, soul, and body will all be in harmony. Maura Griesse added that she has seen the anxiety in many of her clients decrease thanks to a color analysis examination. The insecurities that we all battle can be diminished by just a few color swatch modifications. Shopping can also become faster and more effortless when you know what you don’t need to wear and what you should focus on.
Called By Colors promises to help you find the hues that highlight your natural beauty and match your lifestyle. Whether you need a color consultation, shopping support, or a custom palette, they are there to help you show up in style. To book an appointment with Maura, you can message her on her Instagram @calledbycolors.
No more closet full of “nothing to wear.” Just color combinations that work—every time.

Cultivating Sustainability in Fashion
University of Arkansas’ Lance Cheramie is promoting change in the next generation of fashion
In the same way that a meticulously-crafted article of clothing begins with just a needle and a thread, Dr. Lance Cheramie’s decades-long career in the fashion industry started merely with an intention. Cheramie, who serves as a teaching assistant professor in the University of Arkansas’ School of Human Environmental Sciences and an affiliate member of the University’s Environmental Resilience program, said that he recognized from a young age that fashion was more than just a form of personal expression; it was also a vehicle for storytelling—with each color chosen or texture added, clothing is

used to communicate with the world around it. This understanding stayed with him into adulthood, leading him into a career in retail management and merchandise buying.
Cheramie’s career path eventually relocated him to Fayetteville, where he took on a role as a merchandise buyer for the University of Arkansas, Razorbacks. Cheramie’s cumulative experiences introduced him to broader systems within the fashion and retail industries, including how apparel was developed, sourced and entered into markets.
“I was especially drawn to the intersection of fashion and responsibility, which led me deeper into topics like sustainability, ethics and public policy,” Cheramie said. His interests would lead him to a new facet of the fashion industry: teaching others.
“I discovered that the most fulfilling part [of the industry] was mentoring young professionals. That realization inspired me to pursue a career in higher education, where I could share my industry knowledge while helping students navigate the evolving fashion landscape,” he continued.
Cheramie’s teaching career coincided with his graduate-level studies at the university, where he received his doctorate in public policy with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental policy in the apparel and textile industry. Now, Cheramie is integrating his career experiences with his higher education. In fact, Cheramie developed university-wide courses focused on sustainability in the fashion industry. ”I have the opportunity to blend real-world experience with academic insight, guiding students as they explore fashion as a global, dynamic, and impactful field. My goal is to prepare them not just for careers, but to become thoughtful, informed leaders who engage the industry with curiosity, creativity and conscience,” he said.
Cheramie’s specialty in sustainability in fashion isn’t just a personal interest; it’s an essential aspect of the industry. He said that the fashion industry is one of the world’s largest polluters due in part to factors like water depletion, carbon emissions and textile waste. “If fashion is to remain a force for creativity and cultural expression, we must take

that responsibility for how it’s made, consumed and discarded. That means rethinking the entire lifecycle of a product, from fiber to finish and beyond,” he said. The improvement of the fashion industry is not confined to university programs and large-scale fashion brands, Cheramie said. In fact, Fayetteville is in a unique position to bring a city-sized level of change. “As a university town, we have an engaged student body, a vibrant community of local artisans and vintage retailers, and a culture that already values environmental stewardship…Fayetteville can serve as a model for how small cities can make a big impact,” he explained.
Whether you’re a student studying the fashion industry or a Fayetteville citizen pursuing a hobby, Cheramie said that it’s all hands on deck to make the fashion industry more environmentally friendly. It only takes one person to make a difference—each sustainable practice can go a long way. At the end of the day, the core of Cheramie’s advice is to stay informed and to use creativity with intention. “I encourage you to align your work with your values, engage in meaningful conversations, and to use your platforms—digital or physical, to spark dialogue and drive progress.”

Inside the Uptown Eyes Experience
Fayetteville has always been a city shaped by creativity and connection, and nestled within that spirit is a boutique eye clinic that reflects both. Uptown Eyes, now located in its beautiful new space at 3766 N. Investment Dr., Suite 120, has earned its reputation as more than just a place to get your eyes checked. Since opening in 2011, Dr. Megan Baureis has led her team with a simple yet ambitious vision: create a place where science, style, and service come together in a way that feels deeply personal.
Dr. Megan Baureis
Step inside, and it’s easy to see what makes the experience different. The space is warm, stylish, and welcoming, but what truly stands out is the intentionality behind everything. At Uptown Eyes, appointments don’t feel rushed or clinical. Instead, every visit begins with a conversation. The team wants to know not just how you see, but how you live. Are you someone who works long hours at a desk? Are you often outdoors? Do you lean toward bold style or prefer something understated? These questions matter when finding the perfect frame. The team, which includes doctors, highly trained opticians, and technicians, takes the time to listen before making any recommendations. While face shape is a component, that’s just one piece of the puzzle. “It’s really about helping people find frames that reflect who they are and how they want to feel,” Dr. Baureis says. “We’re here to guide, not pressure.” The end goal is confidence: frames that fit well, support your lifestyle, and make you feel like the best version of yourself.
Eyewear at Uptown Eyes goes far beyond function. Each frame is carefully selected, with an emphasis on design, craftsmanship, and exclusivity. From the very beginning, the team has been committed to working with independent designers and small-batch frame makers, many of whom are nearly impossible to find anywhere else in Northwest Arkansas. That commitment— to quality, creativity, and supporting other small businesses—has been made possible thanks to the incredible support of their community. Uptown Eyes is deeply grateful to the clients who continue to choose them, champion their vision, and make it possible to bring in such thoughtfully curated collections. Their original frame selection came from a local optical boutique owned by their Licensed Optician, Traci, which they merged into their growing vision for something fresh and elevated. Today, they keep a

running wishlist of brands they’re excited to bring in, adding new lines slowly and thoughtfully. Clients can even customize their frames, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that are truly wearable art. But what’s perhaps most unique is the way this care for detail also shapes their team culture. Uptown Eyes hires based on heart and chemistry—believing skills can be taught, but character can’t. They meet regularly in what they call “Polish” sessions, dedicated time to reflect on the customer experience and fine-tune every detail. Whether it’s refining how eyewear is presented or making a small but meaningful change to improve the flow of a visit, the focus is always on making clients feel heard, comfortable, and appreciated. Their brand-new location, thoughtfully designed to support their growing clientele, is just the latest chapter in the Uptown Eyes story. The space offers more square footage, easier parking, and a more expansive layout, allowing guests to browse frames with ease and comfort. It also includes a dedicated dry eye treatment suite, something the team is especially excited about. This addition enables deeper diagnostic testing and more specialized care in a welcoming, spa-like environment. But even with the expansion, nothing about Uptown Eyes feels impersonal. The values that defined the practice from the beginning—kindness, integrity, and experience—continue to guide every decision. Their connection to Fayetteville’s creative spirit remains strong, too. The team has a tradition of highlighting local artists, most recently through two striking murals: an interior piece by Joelle Storet Holt and a vibrant exterior mural by Jeremy Navarrette ( Brickandcanvasart.com). “We love being a part of
Fayetteville’s creative scene,” Dr. Baureis says. “Our community’s identity has shaped who we are. It’s part of what’s helped us grow.”
That commitment to both style and service is exactly why Uptown Eyes has remained such a beloved part of the community. In an industry where efficiency often outweighs empathy, they offer something refreshingly different. Here, the relationship comes first, every appointment is an opportunity to connect, every frame is a reflection of the individual, and every detail, down to the way you’re greeted when you walk through the door, is designed to make you feel valued. With every new frame styled and every smile in the mirror, Uptown Eyes continues to change how Fayetteville experiences vision care. They’re helping people see more clearly while also helping them express themselves more fully. In doing so, they’ve created a space that celebrates style, honors individuality, and keeps kindness at the center.

A VINTAGE HOME REMODEL FOR THE MODERN AGE
ARTICLE BY WILL NEWTON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MEREDITH MASHBURN
Mark & Sonya Zweig
Mark and Sonya Zweig have given 1011 N. Tanglebriar Lane, a mid-century modern makeover.
It takes a lot of work to make a house a home. Whether maintaining a positive familial relationship with its inhabitants or by tailoring the house’s design to one’s liking, it’s a task that should be handled with care. Decorated entrepreneur, designer and builder Mark Zweig, alongside his wife Sonya, understood the importance of creating a space in one’s home that reflects its owners and made a decades-long career consulting home- and business-owners in their architectural and construction endeavors out of it. Additionally, the Zweigs have used their expertise to redesign their own homes – and they’re back at it again.
In 2024, the Zweigs purchased 1011 N. Tanglebriar Lane, a house in Fayetteville with a unique history behind it. The 6100-square-foot house was originally built in 1975 by owners Jim and Diane Blair, close friends of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Diane, who passed away in 2000, is also an honoree behind the Fayetteville Public Library’s Blair Library. After the Zweigs purchased the house, they dived into an efficient remodeling process—a process that only took 60 days, according to Zweig. The expedient remodel was possible primarily because the Zweigs mostly maintained the house’s original, mid-century modern layout.
“Whenever we redo a house, we try to keep it to its original design. If it has stone, fireplaces, any crazy open staircases, crazy windows, unique ceilings—we preserve all of that,” said Mark Zweig. “Our key to remodeling is staying true to the bones of the house and making it feel like it’s always looked the way it does when we’re done.”
While the house’s history attracted the Zweigs to purchase their new home, its mid-century modern layout and design is what sold them to close the deal. Among the house’s design features are vaulted ceilings lined with wooden beams, tall windows that overlook Mt. Sequoyah’s greenery and wildlife, and two stone fireplaces with a dual-floor shared chimney in the middle of the home. The house also features two additions from nationally-renowned and Fayetteville-based architect Marlon Blackwell: a fully-equipped home gym crowned with a living roof (completed through Arkansas-based Ozark Green Roofs) and a fourcar garage furnished with a Tesla car charger and glass roof panels, according to Zweig.
1011 N. Tanglebriar Lane is not the only house on the street that has received the Zweig touch. The couple recently purchased and remodeled for resale 1588 N. Tanglerbriar Lane—just two doors away. “We like redoing houses in the neighborhoods that we live in, it improves the value of your property and the appeal of the neighborhood,” said Zweig.
When it comes to remodeling and redecorating a home, the Zweigs follow a specific philosophy: meeting the house where it is. “You can’t make a house something that it’s not,” said Sonya Zweig. “We’ve seen so many houses with a mid-century modern shape, but the details were all wrong. The homeowners replace parts of the house with what’s happening now, not with what goes with the house’s design.” For their Tanglebriar home, the Zweigs approached it with a distinct color palette and an eclectic design strategy. The remodeled home’s decor includes oriental rugs, vintage furniture, and vibrant wall art.
Although the house has been reimagined by the Zweigs, the history behind it remains forever, and the Zweigs are adding themselves to it. “We just wonder about all the stories that the walls could tell us!” said Sonya Zweig.
