Carol Goddard’s move to Griffin included a 900-mile drive in a 20-year-old Volvo station wagon. She made it all the way to her new hometown before a rough encounter with an old railroad crossing shortened the life of her car. She survived another year before it had to be replaced.
She began her search for a local dealership with an emphasis on affordability and reliability. “I had to look at getting something that was safe, roomy, and would fit my budget,” she said. “I also want something that looks good. It’s very important to take pride in what you’re driving.”
Unlike some other dealerships, Cronic made an impression on Goddard from her first visit. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to afford anything there, but she took a few test drives while looking for the right fit.
Wanda Cronic Howell, President and Dealer at Cronic Automotive Group in Griffin
The staff at Cronic listened to what she had to say and worked with her to meet her needs. “They were all wonderful in terms of trying to find a car for me.” she said. “I looked at a few places, but what really got to me was the friendliness of the team at Cronic – their interest in being engaged in what I really wanted. They really cared!”
The Cronic team helped Goddard with a range of needs, from advising her on repairs for her old vehicle to narrowing down the list of prospective new ones. Her experiences with every department,
from sales to service, were all stellar. In the end, she was able to find the perfect ride that matched her everyday life.
She found it in the Chevy Colorado, which allows her to handle all aspects of her life – from an ordinary day getting groceries and hanging out with her daughter, to transporting herself to an event in which she has been hired to appear in her “Bridgerton” costume.
Cronic made it happen by treating her as something more than just another customer.
“I love their team. I really do.” she said. “They go above and beyond. There is a great sense that they know how a person should feel when they come in – Like Royalty.”
People say the heart of the home is the kitchen. The reason for that is that it's the room where most family members spend time throughout the day, whether cooking, eating, or simply chatting. It has a nurturing aspect because cooking and sharing meals is often seen as a way to care for and nourish loved ones. While I love cooking and I love my kitchen, I would argue that the heart of my home is those two people you see in the photo above. I'd love to share a little about each of them.
My husband, Byron Pugh, is an only child who grew up in Decatur, AL. I've often thought, "I need to start a 'Wives of Only Children Club' where we all get together, drink wine, eat charcuterie, and tell stories about how our OC husbands act". But this man I married is so much more. He's incredibly intelligent and if I have real issues about real things, he is wise and thoughtful with his advice. He has supported every cockamamie idea I have come up with. Even when he doesn't understand it, he supports me. He's funny with one of the sharpest wits I've ever seen in action and he always keeps me laughing... well, almost always. Most importantly, he's trustworthy, devoted to our marriage (celebrated 15 years in February,) and head-over-heels-crazy about our daughter, Abby.
Most of you know about Abby as I make no secret about her diagnosis of profound Autism. She is the joy of my life and the hardest thing I've ever done. Raising a child isn't a cakewalk, but loving this girl is. I mean, c'mon... look at that face! She's silly and smiley and laughs when something is funny. She loves music and giggles when I sing "A Bushel and a Peck" or "You Are My Sunshine" to her at night. She is 'in there' and we know when she knows what we are saying. She may be nonverbal, but she is not unaware.
Who has your heart? Is your home with them? I sure hope so. This month we talk all things home, and as you read on about new closets and home design, I hope your heart is as full as mine is every time you walk through your door.
May God bless your hearts with Home,

Navigating the complexities of real estate can be daunting, especially for seniors looking to downsize or relocate. Enter The Byrd Group, a beacon of expertise and compassion in the industry. Specializing in assisting seniors, they facilitate seamless transitions and empower their clients to leverage real estate as a pathway to financial security and new beginnings.
Tom and Tonya Byrd of The Byrd Group Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Partners, understand that real estate transactions are about more than buying and selling property. They’re often about finding the perfect nest for a new chapter of life. “We help buyers and sellers, regardless of their situation,” Tonya said. “Our slogan is to help people build, protect, and transfer their wealth through real estate.”
Many questions arise during life transitions such as purchasing a first home, downsizing, divorce, or death of a loved one. For example, when it’s time to downsize or move, would it be wiser to sell your current home or turn it into an investment property? The Byrd Group helps guide clients to the right answer.
Tonya is particularly well-equipped to assist seniors through downsizing or relocating. She is the regional ambassador of the Keller Williams Real Estate Planner Community – a network of agents focused on the senior population. With the heart of a teacher and numerous hours of study and training, she can help seniors make decisions about making necessary modifications to age in place in the home they love or moving to a retirement or 55-plus community.
She recently helped a senior moving from Florida to a local 55-plus community through Zoom, even helping her client pick out the finishes of a new home she didn’t see until move-in day. Always willing to go above and beyond, Tonya has even helped clients find in-home
care, or vendors to help with repairs or cleaning out a property to be sold.
Tonya also understands the pros and cons of trusts, the probate process, and the importance of having a plan for transferring wealth and property during the coming ‘silver tsunami.’ She enjoys educating out-ofstate clients about real estate laws in Georgia where it’s up to the buyer to discover anything wrong with the property. “I like figuring those things out and helping people get through it,” she said. Tonya often produces YouTube videos that provide home buyers and sellers with valuable information.
Although every deal is different, Tonya acknowledges that there are challenges with every real estate transaction. “I like helping people navigate through that and being the calm person,” she said. “Real estate can become very emotional.”
Tonya became a realtor in 2008 while living in Texas. She and Tom are Tennessee natives and when Tom’s career allowed them to move to Fayette County in 2015, they were excited to move closer to family. Tom joined Tonya’s real estate business in 2019, and although she’s been in the business longer, they are equal partners. Both sell real estate, but they each have strengths that complement each other and their business. Tonya is a people person, and Tom is great with numbers. “It’s yin and yang that blends perfectly,” she said. When they’re not working on real estate, the couple enjoys life with two retired greyhound racers—the fifth and sixth they’ve adopted since 2003.

David Lewis builds timeless, true custom luxury homes designed to be cherished by families for generations to come.
When it comes to luxury custom homes, David Lewis & Company is not just building houses—they’re creating timeless legacies. With decades of experience in construction and an unparalleled eye for quality, David Lewis has established himself as a standout custom home builder in Metro Atlanta and beyond. From breathtaking estates across Georgia to high-end homes in Trilith, David Lewis & Company has earned its reputation as the go-to name for true craftsmanship and detail-oriented design.
At the heart of the company is David himself, a hands-on builder who believes in bringing a client’s vision to life with precision and care. But this isn’t just about construction—it’s about creating “inheritable homes.” These homes are built to stand the test of time, not just structurally, but as a cherished space for generations to come.
David’s wife, Mikki, plays a vital role in the family-run business, managing all the marketing efforts. Together, they’ve cultivated a brand that thrives on wordof-mouth referrals. “David’s reputation speaks for itself, and our clients trust him enough to recommend him to others. That’s the greatest compliment we could ask for.”
David Lewis & Company specializes in high-end, true custom homes where square footage is not a driving factor. Instead, the focus is on the level of finishes, the craftsmanship, and the customization. “It’s a true team effort. The client, architect, designer, and sometimes an owner’s rep all come together to make the dream a reality.”
From custom plaster walls to handforged stair railings, imported fixtures, and custom cabinetry, nothing about a David Lewis home is standard. “We intentionally choose to be different than the industry,” David shares. “It’s not about cost; it’s about quality and customer satisfaction.”
“David
This commitment to excellence is why David limits the number of projects he takes on. With a low-volume approach, he ensures each project receives the attention it deserves. “We never start more than three projects at a time.”
One of the hallmarks of David Lewis & Company is the relationships David builds with his clients. “It’s an intimate process,” Mikki explains. “David gets to know how the client lives and what they value, and then he creates a home that reflects that.” These relationships often result in friendships that last long after the project is complete.
David is known for being deeply involved in every build. Whether he’s onsite with his sleeves rolled up or collaborating with his trusted subcontractors, he’s there to ensure everything meets his exact standards. His subs, many of whom have worked with him for years, travel wherever the project takes them, maintaining the consistency and quality that David’s homes are known for.
David’s clients have said, “You can’t afford not to use David Lewis.” From the framing to the finishes, every aspect of the home is thoughtfully constructed to ensure longevity and excellence. While no home is perfect because it’s manmade, the likelihood of a problem in a David Lewis home is slim to none.
David sees his work as more than just a job—it’s a calling. “It’s an honor to be asked to build someone’s home,” he reflects. “It’s where they’ll raise their children, perhaps care for aging parents, and create countless memories. That’s not something I take lightly.”
As David and Mikki prepare to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary this December, their business remains a true family affair. Their two daughters have been an integral part of the journey as well, making David Lewis & Company not just a business, but a legacy of its own.

After ten years serving the University System of Georgia, Michael Charlton wanted to do something new, something different, something of his own. And yet, he wasn’t quite sure what that would look like until he spoke with a friend in Virginia, who introduced him to the idea that would ultimately become Budget Blinds of McDonough and Peachtree City.
What started as a personal dream quickly grew into a thriving business venture. In 2018, Michael partnered with his mother to establish Budget Blinds, a window-covering shop in Conyers. Since then, this two-person family operation has expanded to include his brother as operations manager, eight additional staff members, and services extending throughout Henry and Fayette Counties.
With the motto “Style and service for every budget,” Budget Blinds caters to a wide range of clients, from homeowners to designers, and undertakes a wide variety of projects, from residential homes to commercial apartment complexes and strip malls. Approximately 75% of their clients come to them without a clear idea of what they want, making Michael and his team experts in understanding client needs and offering inspiration. “We come to them and try to figure out what their needs are,” Michael explained. During the initial
consultation, “We match them up with what they are looking for and their ultimate needs as opposed to forcing a particular product on the customer.”
In striving to understand their clients’ visions, the Budget Blinds team positions themselves beyond just a product provider.
“We are more of a service than someone you buy a product from,” Michael said. From ideation to installation, “We compile the entire process so you don’t have to lift a finger.”
Budget Blinds offers a wide array of products, including blinds, shutters, and shades for both indoor and outdoor spaces, and styles ranging from classic to contemporary, tailored to each customer’s preferences. Michael noted that minimalistic window treatments with motorization and
automation are particularly popular right now. Despite current trends, he advises clients to do some research before the initial consultation. Whether it’s browsing Pinterest for inspiration or Googling price ranges for desired treatments, this preparation helps the Budget Blinds team align their recommendations with clients’ needs and budgets. While most consultations are discovery, having an idea of style preferences and a budget in mind ensures the process is as efficient and productive as possible.
To make their services accessible, Budget Blinds offers free, no-hassle, in-home consultations. Even if clients aren’t ready to commit immediately due to budget constraints or indecision, Michael emphasized that the team is there to support them. “We’ll help you get a CONTINUED >
game plan,” he said. Recognizing that “This is a journey” for clients, he added, “Just as clients are investing in their homes or projects, we’re invested in them.”
The team’s commitment to investment extends beyond their clients to the local community. Michael and his team actively support
“WE ARE MORE OF A SERVICE THAN SOMEONE YOU BUY A PRODUCT FROM... THIS IS A JOURNEY. JUST AS CLIENTS ARE INVESTING IN THEIR HOMES OR PROJECTS, WE’RE INVESTED IN THEM.”
initiatives such as the anti-bullying campaign Grady Gives, the Home Builder Association, and local realtors. They also participate in Chamber events and meetings. “We make time to get involved and contribute,” Michael shared, emphasizing the importance of supporting the community that has supported Budget Blinds over the years.
Eliciting help from the Budget Blinds team is an investment not just in window coverings, but in a relationship with a group of people who genuinely want to guide you through enhancing your home or project. For those interested in beginning their window-covering journey, schedule an initial consultation by calling 770-450-6137 or filling out the form on the Budget Blinds website ( www.budgetblinds.com/mcdonough-ga/ ). Like Michael said, “We’re really just trying to help you get to where you want to be.”

In 2013, Lisa Carlquist saw a need for high-quality, custom storage solutions. She decided to address this need by blending functionality with beautiful design to create what is now known as Artisan Custom Closets.
From the beginning, Artisan strived to stand out against competitors by placing an emphasis on customer satisfaction, high craftsmanship, and a commitment to personalized, locally owned service. “We don’t offer cookie-cutter solutions,” Christina Johnson, Director of Marketing, said. With in-house, local manufacturing from their Marietta plant, “We can craft whatever is necessary, unbeholden to the production parameters of a franchised company,” ensuring quality control, faster turnaround times, and designs that are “tailored to fit the client’s needs, space, style, and budget.”
This is why the closet design company has grown exponentially over the years, serving over 24,000 residential customers who rave about and refer Artisan to others. Ten years after its founding, Artisan successfully created a footprint stretching across Georgia, Tennessee, and both North and South Carolina to create the “Artisan Family of Brands” and demonstrates continual growth each year.

Their design team, each fully certified by the Association of Closet and Storage Professionals (ACSP), exploits their expertise by working closely with clients to create spaces that are both beautiful and practical. Their process—starting with a one-on-one consultation to assess what is and isn’t working in your current space, followed by design ideation, selection of colors, finishes, and accessories, a custom rendering, manufacturing in Marietta, and final installation—is consistently described as “easy and enjoyable.”
When designing spaces—whether a dream primary closet (their most popular request), a perfectly organized pantry, a stress-free mudroom, or something else—the Artisan designers find inspiration in their clients. “Every home and every family is unique, and we love creating spaces that make life easier and more beautiful,” Christina said.
“We get excited about turning clutter into calm,” Christina admitted. And subsequently, “We’re always on the lookout for new ideas,” including trendy finishes, smart storage solutions, and other little details that make a big difference. With this in mind, the designers have recently noticed a shift from white and gray neutrals to vibrant, colorful, and rich designs. In alignment with their continuous innovation, Artisan recently released new colors to reflect this shift and featured them in their new showroom in Fayetteville, allowing clients to see them in real life before choosing them for their homes.
For those considering a closet makeover, Christina highly encourages it. “As a client myself, you don’t realize how much stress disorganization creates in your life,” she said. Due to the strong sense of calm she felt after seeing the completion of her new closet, “I found myself immediately thinking, ‘Why did I not do this sooner?’ It’s truly that transformative.”
To begin your own transformative process, call (770) 790-5368 to schedule your free consultation or visit their website at www.artisancustomclosets.com

Fayette County native Audrey Arrowood was only eight years old when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Today, Audrey is a 22-year-old survivor, studying to be a nurse. She wants to be able to make a difference in the lives of women, like so many nurses made for her during her ovarian cancer journey. A proud supporter of The Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA), she is a mentor for other young women diagnosed with the disease. Audrey was recently a featured model at the Teal to Heal Fashion Show at Lenox Square Mall.
GOCA’s flagship fundraiser, the “Shaken, Not Stirred Gala” is Saturday, March 8th at the Georgia Aquarium. This elegant fundraising evening features The Celebrity All-Star Band, DJ Angelo Ferraro, incredible silent and live auctions, and, most importantly, moving survivor stories offering insight into their ovarian cancer journey. Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI) – Atlanta Chapter, celebrating its tenth anniversary of partnership with GOCA, will curate an exceptional menu in honor of Dame Barbara Petit.
GOCA hosts a variety of outreach programs, survivor luncheons, and educational events. These include health fairs, corporate seminars, and community initiatives designed to spread awareness of ovarian cancer’s signs and symptoms, leading to earlier detection and better outcomes.
