The Royal Treatment

Carol Goddard’s move to Griffin included a 900-mile drive in a 20-year-old Volvo station wagon. She made it all the way to her new hometown before a rough encounter with an old railroad crossing shortened the life of her car. She survived another year before it had to be replaced.

She began her search for a local dealership with an emphasis on affordability and reliability. “I had to look at getting something that was safe, roomy, and would fit my budget,” she said. “I also want something that looks good. It’s very important to take pride in what you’re driving.”

Unlike some other dealerships, Cronic made an impression on Goddard from her first visit. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to afford anything there, but she took a few test drives while looking for the right fit.

The staff at Cronic listened to what she had to say and worked with her to meet her needs. “They were all wonderful in terms of trying to find a car for me.” she said. “I looked at a few places, but what really got to me was the friendliness of the team at Cronic – their interest in being engaged in what I really wanted. They really cared!”

The Cronic team helped Goddard with a range of needs, from advising her on repairs for her old vehicle to narrowing down the list of prospective new ones. Her experiences with every department,

from sales to service, were all stellar. In the end, she was able to find the perfect ride that matched her everyday life.

She found it in the Chevy Colorado, which allows her to handle all aspects of her life – from an ordinary day getting groceries and hanging out with her daughter, to transporting herself to an event in which she has been hired to appear in her “Bridgerton” costume.

Cronic made it happen by treating her as something more than just another customer.

“I love their team. I really do.” she said. “They go above and beyond. There is a great sense that they know how a person should feel when they come in – Like Royalty.”

From Regency Elegance to Rugged Reliability – Carol’s Chevy Colorado is Fit for a Queen, Thanks to Cronic!

You Can't Take It With You

My mother and I loved watching old movies together. "Old" in the 1970s meant movies made in the '30s and '40s. One of our favorites was a 1938 movie starring Jimmy Stewart and Jean Arthur called, "You Can't Take It With You". The story revolved around the son of a wealthy bank owner who falls in love with a young lady of lesser means and asks her to marry him. You can probably guess that his mother and father are not happy about the union as she is not good enough for their son. I won't reveal the ending of the movie, but I'm sure you can imagine... love prevails.

Having lots of money to invest sounds like lots of fun! Perhaps you do and if so, good for you. I hear Bitcoin is all the rage, but I haven't a clue what cyber currency is, let alone how to invest in it. I do, however, know what it's like to invest in my time and talents. Finding out what I'm good at, like networking and cooking and baking, among other things, has helped me determine what I wanted to do for a living over the years. Did you know I used to own a cheesecake company? Yep. I make the best cheesecakes you've ever tasted, and it was fun making twenty a day out of my kitchen... until it wasn't.

But the older I get and busier I get with projects and businesses and friends and family, the more choosy I am about how I invest my time and talents and, more importantly, with who. I want to be with people who lift and encourage me. I want to experience things and read books and learn more about the things that will boost my confidence, foster my growth, and leave me invigorated, not stuck in the muck and mire of spiritless unfulfillment.

How are you investing in yourself? Maybe you could take that yoga class or make an appointment with a health professional to finally find out what has been bothering you. Maybe there is an intriguing author you've heard about and you could set aside one hour a week to read their new book.

Your time and your talents are worth investing in and even though you can't take them with you, you can sure make the best of them while you're here.

Blessings to you,

April 2025

BREATHE. MOVE. COMMUNITY.

The Yoga Lounge - a sanctuary for movement, mindfulness, and community in every practice.

The Yoga Lounge is more than a yoga studio; it is a place where individuals can find solace, support, and a sense of belonging. Built on the foundation of inclusivity and community, it welcomes everyone, regardless of experience level, background, or fitness ability. Since opening in September, 2024, the

“Yoga is an investment not only in yourself, but an investment in your community as well.”

studio has quickly defined itself as a vibrant refuge for like-minded individuals who aim to improve their lives and the lives of those around them through the authentic and approachable practices of yoga.

Jenn Dufour, the studio’s founder, practiced competitive gymnastics in Southern California until the exertion began taking a toll on her joints. Around the age of 22, a friend suggested yoga as a way to find relief. She was reluctant at first, having the misconception that the practice wouldn’t provide the same workout intensity she was accustomed to. And yet, she attended her first class and immediately fell in love. She got a job at the studio so she could practice more frequently, eventually enrolling in a teacher training course. Before even completing her training, she opened her first studio in San Luis Obispo, CA. Her deep understanding of movement and passion

for the human body enabled her to create a space where others could thrive - a philosophy that is also reflected in The Yoga Lounge.

When it comes to yoga, the countless benefits are astronomical, but its most profound effects are often emotional and mental. Beyond the physical exercise, the combination of breathwork, meditation, and a supportive community fosters overall well-being.

Jenn explains, “Yoga allows you to reconnect with yourself, to be present again. When you’re present, you can be grateful for what you have in this moment. Yoga calls us to focus on the present rather than dwell on the past or worry about the future.” This sense of presence, along with sharing the journey with others, builds a strong sense of community. It empowers you to not feel alone in those moments, ultimately boosting your mental health.

The Yoga Lounge instructors Angie Adams, Lauren Jaracz, Kara Smith, Jenn Dufour, Jill Elkin, and Tara Cahill.

Yoga itself is a holistic practice, something which focuses on the spiritual, mental, and physical faculties of the body. “An investment in yourself is all yoga is,” Jenn says. “The greatest aspect of it is the fact you’re taking time out of your day to do something of your own.” It is more than just an investment in yourself, but also an investment in your community. Jenn acknowledges, “Being self-motivated can be a challenge, so coming to a place where people are making friends in the classes and even getting lunch afterwards is an investment not only in yourself, but in your community as well so you don’t feel isolated and alone.”

Although yoga is at the heart of The Yoga Lounge, the studio offers three distinct types of classes: Restore, Aerial, and Fit. The Restore classes are perfect for those seeking relaxation and stress relief, focusing on gentle movements, deep breathing, and mindfulness. On the other hand, Aerial yoga adds an element of excitement to the practice. Suspended in silk hammocks, participants experience the sensation of weightlessness while engaging in poses that build strength, flexibility, and confidence. “Aerial is like the sprinkles on the cake. It’s the fun part where you get to be playful and go upside down,” Jenn says. But her favorite to teach is one of their Fit classes, Vinyasa. “Regardless of the level or style, each class is intended to challenge everyone in an appropriate and accessible way that’s relative to the individual person. I’ll demonstrate a pose, and students will laugh, saying they’ll never be able to do it. Then, when they finally achieve the pose, I remind them, ‘See? You are capable.’” This sense of personal challenge

“When you’re present, you can be grateful for what you have in this moment. Yoga calls us to focus on the present rather than dwell on the past or worry about the future.”

and accomplishment helps build a community rooted in self-belief and perseverance.

For those unsure of which class to take, Jenn and her studio manager, Sharon, act as advisors for anyone who walks through the doors. They take the time to understand each student’s goals - whether it’s relaxation, injury recovery, a sweat-inducing workout, or breath-focused practice - and recommend the most suitable class. The studio offers events every weekend, such as their aerial sound bath, and a variety of workshops for those who are just getting introduced.

The most difficult part of any yoga journey is taking the first step. Many people hesitate, whether due to self-doubt, fear of the unknown, or concerns about flexibility and fitness levels. Jenn’s advice? Just show up. “You just gotta show up, try it, be open and receptive, and just do it,” she encourages. “All you have to do is walk through the doors, and we’ll take it from there.”

So, show up! Download The Yoga Lounge app on the app store, register for a class, and embark on your yoga journey today.

You Can bank on it

Banking is personal at The Southern Credit Union, Fayette County's member-owned financial institution.

Has your bank ever made you feel like just another number? At Fayette County’s hometown financial institution, The Southern Credit Union, providing personal service to members is their passion. Here, you can speak with neighbors who genuinely care about your financial well-being. “We all speak Southern here,” Marketing Director Corey Widener said.

With a people-helping-people mindset, Federal Aviation Administration employees founded the credit union in 1963 in Eastpoint to serve FAA employees and their families. Today, The Southern Credit Union’s headquarters is in Fayetteville and includes branches in Peachtree City and 11 surrounding counties. Anyone who lives or works in one of the counties the credit union serves can become a member. Members’ immediate family and an extensive list of more than 500 employer groups are also eligible to join no matter where they live. Becoming a member is as simple as visiting one of The Southern’s branches with your driver’s license and opening an account with a $25 deposit.

Like a bank, The Southern Credit Union is federally insured and offers savings, checking, and all types of loans. Other amenities include ATMs, a mobile app and remote deposit capture.  But there is one huge difference. Unlike a bank, account holders at The

Southern Credit Union are also the owners. “Every member who has an account with us is considered a shareholder,” Corey said, adding that shareholders elect their board members. “We don’t have a corporate board that makes money off the profits of the credit union. We’re a not-for-profit organization. We have to be good stewards for our members and the money they trust us with. We can’t have outrageous fees or interest rates.”

Earnings at The Southern Credit Union benefit members through the development of even better products and services. They help keep interest rates low on loans while providing higher interest earnings on savings and checking accounts, IRAS, certificates of deposit, and money market accounts. “We continue developing those things instead of putting that profit in our pockets like a bank,” Corey said.

A member-focused philosophy is also evident in the loan department. “As a not-for-profit institution, our priority at The Southern is our members’ well-being... not just their financial well-being,

The Southern sponsored the Fayette Chamber Harvest Hole-In-One Golf Tournament at Braelinn Golf Club last fall.

but overall,” James Richards, vice president of mortgage lending, said. “Because they are our shareholders and not just a number, when our members talk to us about a mortgage or refinance options, we do what’s in their best interest, not what’s going to pad our bottom line. We take the time to look at each member as a whole person rather than just their credit score or how much they make. Homeownership is the primary way that most Americans create generational wealth, and we want to ensure that our members are getting the absolute best mortgage or home equity option available to them.  We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them, and for that reason, our members always come first.”

With identity theft on the rise, protecting account holders’ information is another priority at The Southern Credit Union. “We want to encourage anyone having issues to come in and speak to someone at a branch or visit our website for more information,” Corey said.

Being a good neighbor extends beyond banking at The Southern Credit Union. It is actively involved in the chamber of commerce of every community it serves. The Southern also participates in fundraising for charities including Bloom Our Youth, City of Hope, Reel People Care, Camp Southern Ground, Healing Bridge Clinic, The Utopian Academy for the Arts, Worldwide Discipleship Association, and Wreaths Across America. Visit www.southernonline.org for more information about The Southern Credit Union.

Investment-worthy pantry essentials that are worth the splurge!

Anyone responsible for the daily “What’s for dinner?” dilemma knows the value of a wellstocked pantry for last-minute meals. If you’re like me, you love having plenty of options on hand, but sometimes, you just need a quick, effortless dinner that still tastes like you

Rao’s Homemade Sauces

Rao’s Homemade Sauces are a pantry staple in my kitchen. With a variety of styles and flavors, my go-to is always the Marinara. It has a rich, slightly chunky texture that clings perfectly to pasta, making it taste like it’s been simmering on the stove for hours. I even use it as a quick, flavorful base for homemade pizzas. The current price at Kroger is $9.99 for a 32 oz. jar.

Tonnino Yellowfin Tuna Fillets in Olive Oil is the caviar of packaged tuna. Packaged in a 6.7 oz. jar, this premium tuna is so flavorful and tender that after one taste, I swore off canned tuna for good. It’s perfect in salads, tossed with pasta, or even straight from the jar. This staple will elevate your dish with just the twist of a cap. The current price at Publix is $6.99 per jar.

Tonnino Yellowfin Tuna Fillets in Olive Oi

put real thought into it. That’s where the right pantry staples come in—they save time, reduce stress, and ensure that even the simplest meals feel special.

I’m here to share my go-to must-haves—the pantry essentials I always keep stocked. These ingredients elevate

everyday meals with minimal effort, turning a rushed dinner into something truly satisfying. They may be a bit pricier than standard grocery store options, but they’re absolutely worth the investment. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.

DeCecco Pasta

DeCecco Pasta is an Italian brand dating back to the mid-1800s, and it stands out for its superior texture and taste. Their special production process, using coarse-grain semolina, ensures that every bite has the perfect al dente firmness. I also love their extensive variety of shapes and sizes, making them versatile for any meal. Currently priced at $2.99 for a 16 oz. box at Kroger.

Cento San Marzano Peeled Tomatoes are my go-to choice for canned tomatoes. Of all the brands I’ve tried, these are the most consistent in quality, delivering vibrant color and a perfectly balanced acidity and sweetness. I prefer the whole tomatoes, which I dice or puree myself, but the pre-diced version is just as good in a pinch. Currently priced at $4.69 for a 28 oz. can at Kroger.

A LIFETIME OF Healing and Innovation

DR. KATZ PROVIDES HOLISTIC HEALING, NUTRITION, WELLNESS, AND LASTING HEALTH.

ARTICLE BY PAM REID | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Dr. Linda Katz is the sole provider at Fayette Chiropractic Center & Spinal Decompression in Fayetteville - a practice that goes beyond traditional chiropractic care. Open on Sundays, a significant convenience for busy individuals, her practice has expanded to offer treatments for neuropathy, leaky gut, metabolic syndrome, and red light therapy. Dr. Katz’s journey into healthcare is a story of perseverance, intuition, and an unyielding passion for patient care.

FROM MEDICAL ASSISTANT TO GROUNDBREAKING CHIROPRACTOR

With over 42 years in healthcare, Dr. Katz’s career began as a medical assistant, where she was unexpectedly fired - not for incompetence, but because she was told she was “too good” to stay in that position. Encouraged to pursue higher education, she was accepted into NYU’s nursing program, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health and Nutrition along with her Bachelor’s in Nursing.

She worked her early years at Lenox Hill and Beth Israel hospitals, where her ability to think critically led to an unexpected dismissal from the nursing floor. She administered an IV she knew a patient desperately needed, despite it not yet being ordered. The move saved the patient’s life, and soon after, she was recruited to work in the ER department, where thinking on her feet was not just encouraged but required.

A LIFE-CHANGING MIGRAINE AND A NEW CALLING

Her journey into chiropractic care was unplanned. While working in the ER, crippling migraines plagued her life. She suffered from swelling, vomiting, and excruciating pain. Traditional medicine could only offer her morphine, but it wasn’t addressing the root cause. A visit to a chiropractor changed everything.

Dr. Katz tests for sensitivity loss for clients with neuropathy.

During the adjustment, she was overwhelmed by the loud cracking sound, but she knew something significant had happened. After speaking to her mother, she learned she had fallen from a swing at age six and was presumed unconscious. The accident left her head tilted for years. It took 20 years for the migraines to manifest, proving that pain and dysfunction don’t always originate from recent injuries but can stem from long-term misalignments.

Within two weeks of chiropractic care, her migraines were gone. Inspired by this transformation, she dropped out of her master’s program to pursue chiropractic studies, eager to bring this kind of relief to others.

EXPANDING INTO HOLISTIC WELLNESS

Dr. Katz’s journey into nutrition and holistic wellness took a personal turn when she lost 80 pounds by addressing her leaky gut and food allergies. She eliminated inflammatory foods, adopted a healthier lifestyle, and saw incredible results.

restoring hydration to the discs, improving mobility, and reducing pain. She emphasizes that insurance does not cover many of these treatments because “If insurance can’t control it, they won’t pay for it.” But that doesn’t stop her from offering affordable specials to make these life-changing treatments accessible.

A DOCTOR, A MOTHER, A TEACHER

Beyond her practice, Dr. Katz’s personal life has shaped her compassionate approach. She is a single mother to a brain-injured daughter who has taught her the depths of unconditional love. She also adopted a child at age seven and has two step-sons. Through it all, her commitment to wellness and education remains unwavering.

“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see medicine isn’t working. True health is about treating the whole person, not just symptoms.”

She introduced neuropathy treatments and red light therapy, which boasts a 93-97% success rate. These treatments re-educate nerves and increase oxygenation, much like how plants thrive with sunlight, nutrients, and water. Dr. Katz explains, “Red light is your sunlight, our nutrition program is your nutrients, and our electrical program is your water - it rewires the circuits to restore function.”

Her spinal decompression therapy addresses herniated discs, stenosis, and sciatica by

Dr. Katz believes in empowering her patients with knowledge. Her goal is to get people off sugar and pharmaceuticals and onto a path of true health. She encourages clients to use tools like the Yuka app to scan and evaluate food choices.

INVEST IN YOUR HEALTH

Dr. Katz provides individualized attention to each patient, which is why appointments are highly recommended. Call (770) 461-2225 or visit fayettechiropractic.com

If you’re looking for expert chiropractic care combined with holistic wellness strategies, Dr. Linda Katz is not your typical “rack ‘em and crack ‘em” chiropractor - she’s a healer, educator, and advocate for lifelong wellness.

A Ripple effect

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Ripple Glass is making glass recycling more accessible for Fayette County residents and businesses. In addition to its well-known purple bin at the Southern Conservation Trust, Ripple has launched a new Commercial Program to help local businesses adopt sustainable practices.

Originally founded in Kansas City, Ripple has expanded across multiple cities, now bringing its successful recycling model to Georgia. The company collects, cleans, and processes glass at its College Park facility, turning it into new bottles and fiberglass insulation, reducing landfill waste and promoting a circular economy.

Southern Conservation Trust, a nonprofit focused on conservation and environmental education, has partnered with Ripple to increase recycling accessibility.

Carol Garrison, Environmental Educator at the Trust, praised the collaboration, emphasizing its impact on reducing glass waste and fostering sustainability.

The new Commercial Program provides pick-up services for businesses like restaurants and multi-family housing. Equipped with 64- and 96-gallon carts, businesses can conveniently recycle glass while benefiting from cost savings and positive customer engagement.

Tito’s Handmade Vodka is sponsoring the program, covering setup fees and the first month of service.
