June 2025 Publisher’s Letter
Have you ever wondered, “Do fathers matter? What differences do I make in my home as a dad?” Let’s start with the simple answer — the importance of a father is tremendous! Fathers make countless differences in their home and family. However, how much impact you decide to make as a dad is entirely up to you!
A father’s gifts of quality time, life-giving words, and positive actions have a long-lasting impact on his children.
As I reflect on fatherhood this month, here are just a few of the ways dads can build up their home:
• A father’s strength can be powerful
• A dad’s words can be fueling and inspirational
• Hugs from a dad can be deeply comforting
• A dad’s smiles can instill joy and confidence
• Time with a dad can be fun and productive
• A dad’s physicality can be challenging
• A dad’s guidance can be life-changing and foundational
• A father’s correction can be life-saving and life-giving
• Adventures with a dad can be exciting and memorable
Let your father or a father figure in your life know how much he matters to you. And if you are a dad, let us be the first to say - thank you. You are invaluable to the people who know and need you as well as the community around you. Happy Father’s Day! BRUCE BERNSTEIN,

This place? Certified good vibes. It’s part cozy market, part sandwich haven, and 100% worth a stop. Whether you’re in for a quick bite or just browsing the shop while secretly eyeing the sandwich board, you’re in the right spot.
The food? Chef’s kiss. The menu is so good they might ruin other spots for you. Fair warning. Every bite tastes like someone actually cared (because they did), and the combos hit just right. From salads to sandwiches, fresh ingredients, great combos, and the right balance of flavor and comfort.
The market? It’s like your cool friend’s pantry—packed with premium goods, local gems, and that one hot sauce you suddenly can’t live without. It’s thoughtfully curated, not cluttered. There is a rotating selection of delicious prepared foods—perfect for days when you want something homemade-ish without actually having to cook. Their grab-and-go game is strong. It’s the kind of place that saves the day when you’re juggling too much and still want delish.
The Corner Market is relaxed and friendly, with just the right mix of neighborhood charm and thoughtful touches. It’s a little slice of the community—where the food’s awesome, the people are kind, and the vibes are exactly what you want on a sunny afternoon. You can swing by solo, meet a friend, or bring the whole fam—everyone fits in here. It is the perfect place for grabbing a cup of iced coffee on your way to a summer ball game, an ideal snack stop during a family bike ride, or for refueling with lunch after a victorious farmer’s market stroll. Also, pro tip: bring Dad here for Father’s Day. Something about dads and sandwiches just makes sense, and this spot always delivers.

Meet a Fairfield-Based Artist Blending City Energy with Coastal Calm
Split between New York City and a charming 300-year-old farmhouse in Fairfield, artist Paul Richard has found a creative rhythm that blends city energy with small-town ease. His Fairfield home, full of character and surrounded by the scenic beauty of this town, offers a perfect counterbalance to the bustle of NYC—and a welcoming space to create. “Fairfield is more intimate and less chaotic than the city. Now that I’m in Fairfield, it’s easier to focus on a project with fewer distractions.”
Art has always been part of the picture. Growing up, both of Paul’s parents painted and sculpted as a hobby, so there were always art supplies around the house. That early exposure laid the groundwork for a lifelong passion. “I’ve always been drawing and painting,” Paul says. “I’d use art in school projects whenever I could.”
Known for his signature drip paintings—a distinct style where paint is poured directly onto the surface—Paul’s work primarily features oil and acrylic on canvas. Still, he emphasizes that everything begins with drawing. “Drawing is the foundation for most of my work, so pencil and paper is a common theme,” he says
Paul’s creative process is deeply intuitive and not easily described. Mostly, it’s the act of working itself that sparks creativity. “The process is linear. Each piece builds on the last, evolving over time.” But at the heart
of it all are his greatest muses—his children. “Two of my biggest influences are my daughter Ruby and my son Oliver,” he shares. “Ruby is a gifted student and writer who just launched her own literary magazine, Cherry Blue. I aspire to have Oliver’s playful and uninhibited approach to his painting and playtime. He adds, “Picasso said it best: It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
When it’s time to unwind, you’ll find Paul biking through this town’s lush neighborhoods. “I like to go on bike rides; I’m lucky to be in such a scenic part of the state. I like to spend time with my kids. Oliver loves exploring the local playgrounds—watching how he interacts with the world and how he sees things with fresh eyes. It’s a good reminder to stay curious. And when I get a quiet moment, I appreciate a good cup of coffee. Greiser’s Coffee Shop is a quick bike ride from the Fairfield studio.”

While specific details remain under wraps, exciting projects are on the horizon. “They’re pushing my work into new spaces, both physically and conceptually,” Paul shares. “It’s the kind of challenge that keeps things interesting.” Art, in all its forms, has a unique ability to unite people, spark connection, and add depth to a community’s culture. Paul believes art strengthens the bond within a community—”It connects us to a place,” he says. In a town like Fairfield,
that connection feels especially meaningful. The town’s bucolic neighborhoods, strong sense of camaraderie, and beautiful coastline make it a truly special place to be inspired. Paul offers aspiring artists this advice: “Be prolific and keep your momentum. And don’t overanalyze your own work—let the audience do that.”

THEY’RE ONIT!
BUILT ON FRIENDSHIP, POWERED BY COMMUNITY
ARTICLE BY SAMANTHA SCHOENGOLD BERANBOM
PHOTOGRAPHY BY DARIUSZ TEREPKA PHOTOGRAPHY
Growing up in Fairfield, childhood friends and longtime baseball teammates Jacob von der Linden, Alex Steele, and Zach McKay never imagined working together off the field—until COVID sent them home early from college and sparked an idea. Amid widespread lockdowns and limited job opportunities, they decided to start a general services business, which resulted in the founding of ONIT.
Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ONIT TO SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER HEARD OF IT?
Alex: ONIT is an online service platform that connects homeowners to local students so they can complete odd jobs around the house. Odd jobs include anything from dump runs and yardwork to assembling playsets for children and assisting at birthday parties. It’s an easy way for students to earn money on their own time and for homeowners to find reliable help around the house. It brings the community together and helps everyone.
Q: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO BUSINESS TOGETHER? DID YOU SEE A GAP IN THE MARKET OR A PERSONAL NEED THAT WASN’T BEING MET?
Zach: The three of us were home from college, but due to the pandemic, we were out of part-time work and needed to save money for school. While hanging out one summer night at Alex’s house, the three of us started brainstorming ways to make money during the summer. We went back and forth on different business ideas. In the wake of Covid, homeowners began to put work into their homes, landscaping, throwing furniture out and making it a more comfortable space. With this in mind, we decided to start a general services business. We were three strong, motivated college students with tools and a truck, and we thought we could help out with these daily tasks.
Alex: Our experiences served as an introduction to entrepreneurship, and we had the itch to continue. After another successful year, we worked for over 120 different clients and realized there was potential within this niche market. We began creating a platform to connect other likeminded students with local homeowners to get these odd jobs done.
Jacob: One of the great perks about ONIT is that it’s guaranteed to be a local student in the community. It’s not someone from out of state, and that offers two big benefits for the homeowner: you’re getting your time back while supporting a fellow community member, and there’s a sense of safety and trust knowing it’s someone local.

ZACH, ALEX AND JACOB
FOUNDERS OF ONIT
Q: WHO IS YOUR TYPICAL CLIENT AND WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?
Alex: Our typical client is homeowners who have little time due to family, work, or community obligations. Our goal is to make their lives easier by connecting them to motivated students who can help them get work done around the house. Jobs include yardwork, dump runs, moving furniture, snow removal, item assembly, and anything else where someone could use an extra set of hands. Students are motivated to work hard and help with just about anything homeowners may need assistance with.
Q: WHAT IS ONIT’S OVERALL MISSION AND WHAT SETS IT APART FROM OTHER HANDYMAN OR TASK SERVICES?
Zach: ONIT isn’t just a transactional process to get jobs done; it offers homeowners an affordable, timely solution to get jobs done around the house, giving them more free time to enjoy their personal lives while supporting
hard-working local students. On the other hand, we provide students with an opportunity to make money while working with their friends and managing their own schedule, all while getting an entrepreneurial experience. One key differentiator in our business compared to other large services is we have a niche focus on non-professional work. Most notably, ONIT is completely free for workers, and homeowners get to choose the price of their job. There is no quoting process. A homeowner can simply go to our job request page and name their price.
Q: HOW DO YOU SEE YOUR WORK AS A WAY OF GIVING BACK OR HELPING NEIGHBORS WHO MIGHT NOT KNOW WHERE TO TURN FOR HELP?
Alex: Our work is focused on building community. We love being able to support students by providing them with work opportunities and making homeowners’ lives easier. Our process is a more personal approach and relationships are built between neighbors.

“It is very exciting to start a business with your best friends.”
Q: WHAT DO YOU FIND THE MOST REWARDING BEING BUSINESS OWNERS TOGETHER?
Alex: The most rewarding part of owning our business together is seeing our ideas come to fruition. We are ecstatic that students are enjoying the service and experiencing the rewards of their own hard work. We look forward to continuing to work together and building some fun memories through our experiences.
Jacob: This town certainly has been a big part of our lives. I’ve always loved the support within the town and the community. It’s incredible to experience the camaraderie from playing baseball and then returning and starting a local business with friends. It’s great to hear about how we are helping the community. Being boots on the ground and talking to the community is super fun. It’s also been really cool to see how far you can take a small investment and a vision.
Zach: Owning a business is rewarding, and we always love to hear homeowners and students tell us about our positive impact on the community. On the flip side, the most fulfilling part of owning a business together is seeing how it has evolved over the years. It is very exciting to start a business with your best friends.

HELPING LOVED ONES AGE IN PLACE WITH COMFORCARE HOME CARE
Home Is Where the Care Is
The aging of our population has become an increasingly important topic —and for good reason. As of 2024, around 17% of the U.S. population is 65 or older, and that number is expected to jump to 22% by 2040. According to a 2024 AARP survey, a significant number of older adults hope to stay in their homes as they age rather than move elsewhere. FLM turned to care expert and ComForCare Home Care owner and operator Neil Anand to discuss this trend and how to navigate it all.
FLM: Can you tell us about ComForCare’s mission and how you support the aging population in our community?
Neil Anand: ComForCare Home Care is a premier provider of in-home care, helping older adults live independently in their own homes and continue to do all the things they love. When working with clients and their families, we take a person-centered, high-touch approach. Everyone’s situation is different, which is why we develop personalized care plans and adjust as needed. We can be there for as little as a few hours to round-the-clock care. Most people want to stay at home and age in place if they can. We help them do this, offering assistance with personal care including bathing, grooming and dressing, safety supervision, meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, medication reminders, transportation, and much more. We are committed to helping people live their best life possible and also offer special programs for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
FLM: What are some of the most common reasons families seek home care for aging loved ones?
Neil: There are a few big reasons that come up time and time again. First, families notice that their loved ones struggle to manage daily tasks independently, and safety becomes a major concern. Then there’s the reality that many families simply can’t always be there, especially those in the Sandwich Generation—juggling responsibilities between raising their own kids and caring for aging parents. Also, there is an emotional side to all this as well —loneliness. Many older adults just need some companionship and someone to talk to during the day. That kind of connection can make a huge difference.
FLM: Since this can be an emotional and overwhelming decision - what are some of the first steps families should take when seeking home care for a loved one? What should families look for most when choosing a home care provider?
Neil: Families should initially determine the needs, how much family can help out and where the gaps will be. When researching agencies, it’s essential
to ensure they’re properly accredited and conduct thorough background checks and screenings on their employees. You’ll also want to look into how they train their caregivers and whether they offer specialized programs for specific conditions like dementia or Parkinson’s. At ComForCare, we begin with a free initial consultation where we meet at the home, discuss options, and tour the space to address any safety considerations and make helpful recommendations.
FLM: How does aging at home benefit older adults compared to other care options like assisted living or nursing facilities?
Neil: Home is a familiar setting and creates feelings of independence. However, we recognize that home may not always be the right option, or it may be time to move. We are happy to make recommendations of trusted partners in community-based living. There are pros and cons to each.
FLM: There is a perception that home care can be costly—what are some of the most accessible financial resources available to help families cover these services?
Neil: First, check with your HR department to see what Employee Assistance Program benefits are available. EAPs offer free, confidential support for personal and work-related issues and may cover backup home care for children, elderly family members, or yourself. We work with many companies and handle all the logistics.
Another option may be if your loved one has longterm care insurance, which covers personal care services. With LTCI, ComForCare works with all the major companies and takes care of the paperwork and admin so you don’t have to. Many people don’t realize that once the claim kicks in, you usually stop paying those premiums you’ve been putting into the policy for years. So now’s the time you really start getting the benefits you’ve paid for—and that support can go a long way. We’re here to walk you through the process and help approve the claim.
ComForCare is also credentialed with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and veterans and surviving spouses can get the cost of home care covered through 2 main programs through the VA. One is the Aid &
CONTINUED >
Attendance Pension Program . This benefit helps veterans and surviving spouses cover long-term care costs. If the veteran is 65+ and needs help with at least two daily activities (like bathing or dressing), they may qualify. The program adds extra money to their VA pension. Income and asset limits apply, but the rules can be complex, so getting help navigating the process is a good idea.
The Veteran-Directed Care Program offers eligible individuals a budget for approved senior care services rather than a direct increase in pension. With the help of a counselor, veterans manage this budget and choose their own providers. This benefit has no age, asset, or income limits–the veteran must qualify for home and community-based services. We’re proud to support our veterans and guide them through the VA process every step of the way.
We are very excited to participate in a new program through Medicare that started this year. GUIDE is a voluntary nationwide Medicare initiative that aims to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia through a package of care coordination and management, caregiver education and support, and respite services to provide relief to family caregivers.
We continue to see more resources to help offset the cost of services. ComForCare always looks into every option.
FLM: What do you wish more families knew about home care and the options available to them?
Neil: There is no one-size-fits-all answer. That is why ComForCare works closely with you to develop a plan that fits your loved one’s needs and budget. We believe in a front-loaded, high-touch care process and are accessible 24/7 for any questions or concerns.

SO YOU WANT TO BE A COWBOY
DISCOVER THE WHIMSY OF THE WEST AT PAWS UP MONTANA
Favorably referred to as the “Last Best Place” and the “Treasure State,” Montana has captured the hearts of cinematic cowboys like Taylor Sheridan and Harrison Ford and inspired the television series, “Yellowstone” and its prequels, “1883” and “1923.” Though fictional, they’ve reminded America of its deeply-rooted spirit for adventure and the simple yet rugged way of life that we all crave. Whether its the backdrop of jagged, snowcapped peaks or the endless golden pastures that are peppered with livestock, this Rocky Mountain soil is a breeding ground for dreamers and doers, and the people who call it home are no strangers to the ritual of ranch life.
So, you want to be a cowboy? Slipping on some leather and having a little hide in your hat are good ways to start, but visiting a resort that brings the best of this life to the forefront, while also embracing modern luxury, is the experience of a lifetime.
Paws Up Montana sprawls the distance of 37,000 private acres of historic estateland, which houses a working ranch and 10 miles of Blackfoot river. Personalization is key—a divine selection of cuisine for the foodies, awe-inspiring activities for the adrenaline seekers, and world-class lodging that tickles every fancy from stargazing glamping, to timber-style family dwellings, to the uniquely designed green “o hauses” that invite the outside world in.

WHERE TO STAY
WHAT TO DO
To change your attitude, you need a change in altitude. Gain some speed or turn up the adrenaline level with ATV tours, electric biking, mountain biking, go-karts, paintball, rappelling down Lookout Rock or whitewater rafting down the Blackfoot River. Indulge in the western art of living with archery, fly-fishing, hiking or sporting clays. For those who want to immerse themselves in the language of horses, there are horse-related adventures such as lessons, grooming or feeding, horse-whispering workshops or organized trails rides. Riders can also enjoy cattle drives that bring you back to yesteryear—driving a herd of cattle across the famed landscape—and bear witness to mustang gentling, where the Equestrian Manager communicates with a wild horse through body language and tone of voice. Skyline Aerial Adventure Park is another notable warm-weather activity, taking guests on two high-ropes courses.
Luxury Homes are categorized into preference-based properties that boast the thrill of wilderness living. For larger families and multigenerational groups, consider the Wilderness Estates. At 3,250-square-feet, these estates sleep up to eight guests and feature three large suites with private baths. The Big Timber Homes are available in one-to-three bedroom options and come ornamented with fire places and private decks. The Meadow Homes are 1,100-square-foot single-story homes that sleep up to four guests, situated amid a pastoral and treed setting. For an extra nod of perfection, choose one of the luxury homes that comes equipped with a private tent—ideal for anyone traveling with children (or adults who beckon back their childhood!).
For a more primitive experience, Glamping Homes offer the right amount of canvas to create a close-to-nature experience. Available mid-May through mid-October, choose from river settings to creeksides, bluffs or cliffs. Each tent is adorned with something unique—a copper tub, a picturesque view of Lewis and Clark’s famous Lookout Rock and Western-chic furniture throughout. Zip down the windows to allow for the cool nightly breeze, yet enjoy the modern convenience of electricity. Each campsite has a dining pavilion. And don’t miss the s’mores boards around the communal fire pit, offered by your own s’moresologist—yes, you read that right, and yea, it’s a thing.
Lastly, but certainly not least, are the state-of-theart accommodations of the Green O hauses. This portion of the property is completely curated for those 21 years of age and older. It’s a resort within a resort, a hidden pearl in an oyster of experience. The Tree Haus is elevated 23 feet in the air and offers unparalleled forest views. The Green Haus includes a skylight above the bed for an unmatched view of pluck-em-from-thesky stars. The Round Haus has curved, floor-to-ceiling windows that offer 180-degree panoramic views. Both the Green and Round Hauses are dog friendly, too, so Fido can rest in the lap of luxury. The Light Haus is illuminated by skylights and unique glass design.
DRINK & DINE
Montana’s best kept secret? Our hideaway chefs, making waves from the Montana wilderness. Chef Brandon Cunningham, Executive Chef at the Green O, is a James Beard Award finalist whose creations at the Social Haus are highly curated through an 8-course tasting menu. Other highly trained and talented chefs like Chef Brett Edlund, Chef Ben Scott, Executive Pastry Chef Krystle Swenson, and Sunny Jin, the General Manager of Food and Beverage, are part of the intricate patchwork of the culinary experience at Pomp, Trough, Shed, Camp and the notable Chuck Wagon—a summertime treat where guests can ride a hay wagon along the banks of the Blackfoot River for an Old West-inspired chuck wagon dinner. The menu ranges from all-natural chicken and Tomahawk ribeye to fresh vegetables grilled over an open flame campfire.
HOW TO GET HERE
Airport: Missoula Montana Airport (MSO) Airport transfers from Missoula are complimentary for guests and all luxury home and Green O accommodations come with a Lexus luxury SUV for transportation use on property.

SUMMER GRILL RECIPES
ARTICLE BY KATIE BOBROW
THESE DELICIOUS RECIPES ARE LIGHT, BRIGHT AND FEEL LIKE SUMMER
The sun has returned, and grilling season is upon us. With the nice weather comes vegetable gardens and fresh produce, along with the overwhelming desire to be outside as much as possible. We’ve compiled some fresh and light dishes that you can shop for at your local farmers market and whether you’re looking for a quick mid-week meal or something to grill for a crowd on the weekend these dishes won’t disappoint. These pair well together or can stand on their own!
INGREDIENTS:
• 2lbs. Outside skirt steak*
• 2 Tablespoons Lime*
• 2 Tablespoons finely, chopped cilantro
• ¼ Cup Olive oil or avocado oil
• ¼ White onion, finely chopped
• 1 Tablespoon cumin
• Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
1. Place skirt steak into gallon freezer bag
2. Combine all other ingredients in bowl and mix. Pour over steak and marinate for 3-4 hours or overnight in the fridge.
3. Bring skirt steak to room temperature by letting it sit out for one hour.
4. Get your grill hot on one side and medium on the other.
SIMPLE SKIRT STEAK
5. Once the grill is ready, wipe excess marinade off steak. Starting on the hot side, place skirt steak on grill for 2 minutes per side, attaining a nice sear.
6. Transfer steak to the cooler side of grill and cook until the internal temp is 130°. Let rest for 10 minutes (temp will rise while resting).
7. Carve and serve. This dish pairs well with beans and rice or served as tacos. Below is a chimichurri sauce that compliments it nicely.
*Outside skirt steak is a more tender cut than inside skirt steak, for this recipe outside skirt is recommended. Do not use too much lime as the citrus can cook the meat before putting it on the grill, resulting in a tougher texture.
SUM MER
CHIMICHURRI
INGREDIENTS:
• ½ Cup parsley, finely chopped
• ½ Cup cilantro, finely chopped
• 2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
• 3 Cloves garlic, minced
• 1 Red chili (whole or deseeded depending on desired level of heat)
• ½ Teaspoon dried oregano
• 1 Teaspoon salt
• 1 Tablespoon lime juice (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. You can make this in the late morning and let it sit for around 4-6 hours, or you can make it the day before and let the flavors meld overnight in the fridge. Just be sure to take it out and get it to room temp before you serve it, as olive oil hardens in the fridge. Serve over skirt steak or tacos.
ROASTED CORN SALSA
INGREDIENTS:
• 2 Ears sweet corn
• 10oz. Cherry tomatoes
• ¼ Cup lime juice
• 1 Finely chopped jalapeno or serrano (whole or deseeded depending on desired level of heat)
• ¼ Cup cilantro, finely chopped
• ½ Cup white onion, chopped
• 2 Cloves garlic, minced
• Salt to taste
DIRECTIONS:
1. Grill corn, you do not need to soak the corn beforehand.
2. Place corn on the grill (inside their husks) over medium heat turning every few minutes.
3. After 10 to 12 minutes shuck the corn and put the cobs back on the grill for 2-4 minutes rotating frequently to achieve that charred look and flavor.
4. Cut the corn from the cob, place in bowl and add all other ingredients. Let the mixture meld for about an hour and serve with tortilla chips or as a taco garnish.

Priceless Memories
Advice Editorial: Gift Giving Inspiration For Dads
ARTICLE BY MEL BOBAN
Retro Movie Night
Enjoy a movie night together with popcorn, candy and all the fixings. Home movies enable strolls down memory lane, or one of his favorite movies from his childhood makes for fun conversation. Ordering a projector for a large format screening makes the movie night feel extra theatrical.
Learn Together
Learning a new skill together, or sharing a favorite hobby, is a great way to bond. If Dad likes woodworking or fishing, finding a class to attend together goes beyond gifting tools and allows fun.
Blast From The Past
Brainstorm childhood memories together and enjoy a day reliving them. If he chaperoned a trip to the zoo, experience it again together. If short on time, stop at a favorite ice cream stand and tell him how much you cherish the memories.
