Sip, Savor, Celebrate!

Food and drink have a way of turning even the simplest moments into memories. A Tuesday night dinner becomes a celebration when paired with a favorite bottle, and a cool fall evening gets cozier when you’re surrounded by friends, laughter and a blazing fire and toasted marshmallows.

This issue is all about savoring those experiences. With Bottles & Barrels, we’re raising our glasses to the joy of discovery, whether that means a new wine you’ll fall in love with or a spirit that takes center stage in your cocktail lineup.

Learn about Golden Sheaf Whiskey and why it’s more than a pour. It’s a Nebraska legacy reborn. Originally founded in Omaha in the late 1800s, this heritage brand has been reimagined for today, blending time-honored craftsmanship with a modern palate. Smooth, bold and distinctly Nebraskan, each sip carries a story of resilience, revival and the spirit of celebration.

And because the best gatherings start at home, The Art of Drawers helps us reimagine our kitchens and beyond, keeping the tools of creativity beautifully organized and always within reach.

And the Omaha Pumpkin Company turns an autumn chore into a seasonal delight. Forget the scramble of crowded fields and picked-over bins. Their team delivers hand-selected pumpkins straight to your door, styled into stunning displays that make your porch the envy of the neighborhood.

Finally, explore the flavors authentic Latin American cuisine, just outside of Elkhorn at Con Amor Latin Kitchen in Valley, Nebraska. Owner Elizabeth Salguero crafts every dish and cocktail “with love,” creating a space where culture, connection and community come together in every detail.

Here’s to raising a glass, setting the table and making the most of every bite and sip. We hope this issue inspires you to gather, taste and celebrate, because life is always better shared.

Cheers,

POURING MORE THAN DRINKS

Bottles & Barrels blends wine, cocktails and community into a welcoming experience

On a bustling evening, golden light glistens off the windows of Bottles & Barrels and string lights along the patio cast a warm glow that mirrors the energy inside. Locals gather at tasting stations, sampling bourbon, wine, craft beer and cocktails, while laughter and conversation ripple through the space. Jimmy Ellsworth, the store’s heart and soul, greets each customer with a smile, turning strangers into friends. The lights, the atmosphere and the care in every pour reflect the same warmth that defines Ellsworth’s vision: a shop built on connection as much as on quality drinks.

Ellsworth grew up in Kansas City but found a home in Elkhorn in 2002 after meeting his wife, Becky Wortman, a native whose family of dentists, coaches and teachers anchors the town’s history. “I came for love and stayed for the people,” Ellsworth says.

Locals sample bourbon, wine, craft beer, and cocktails at Bottles & Barrels, Elkhorn’s community-focused tasting and retail spot.
“I wanted to take a chance at building something that was unique and engaging for our community, a place that can bring everyone together.”

With 20 years in the beer industry, from merchandising at Coors Distributing Co. to leading sales at Boulevard Brewing Co. and Molson Coors, he built a career on expertise. Yet at 46, an insatiable desire led him to leave a secure job to pursue his passion. “I wanted to take a chance at building something that was unique and engaging for our community, a place that can bring everyone together,” recalls Ellsworth.

Bottles & Barrels redefines the liquor store experience with a “try it, love it, buy it” model, allowing guests to sample spirits, beers, cocktails and wines before purchase. Simply check in at the front counter to open a tab, just as if you were at a bar, except you’re in the middle of a liquor store, and receive your tasting card. The store features two tasting stations with 16 spirits on tap, including a rotating selection of eight bourbons, two wine stations with 16 wines to sample, and a tap wall with 20 beers and six pre-batched cocktails to pour.

Guests explore Bottles & Barrels’ tasting stations, sampling 16 spirits, eight rotating bourbons, 16 wines, craft beers, and pre-batched cocktails.

“It’s about creating an experience that’s tailored to our guests and providing options for them to select from across all categories,” Ellsworth says. The store, located where Omaha, Elkhorn, Gretna and Millard converge, proudly supports locally brewed beers and has a tremendous selection of regional craft breweries. You can mix and match 16-ounce craft beers, along with an outstanding assortment of Belgian and German import singles. Beer not your thing? Don’t worry. They recently introduced “Cocktail Corner,” serving six pre-batched cocktails on tap, plus a weekend pop-up cocktail bar offering specialty drinks Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 10 p.m.

Community fuels Bottles & Barrels. The store hosts thematic monthly events, such as October’s Paso Robles Wine Celebration on October 10, Winesdays each Wednesday, where all wine pours are 30% off, and Acoustic Sundays, every week from 2 to 5 p.m. You can also enjoy Music Bingo and Music Trivia every Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Their monthly wine club, affectionately dubbed Wine Society, delivers monthly hand-picked bottles across four tiers, while a rewards program, in which

you earn five points per dollar spent, turns regulars into guides for friends exploring the tasting stations. The shop’s Cheerslike vibe fosters friendships, a nod to Ellsworth’s mom, whose warmth shaped his approach. “My mom treats everyone like family, and that’s made a lasting impact on me and how I run the store,” he says.

Jimmy and Becky, parents to two daughters at Elkhorn South High School, are woven into the town’s fabric, proud to call their business “locally owned and locally grown.” Looking ahead, Ellsworth plans two new Omaha metro stores within two years, with eyes on Lincoln and potential franchising. “Elkhorn’s my heart, but I would love to see our business expand,” he says.

With a passion for craft beer, wine and cocktails, Ellsworth has created a place where locals feel at home. The string lights and the laughter of neighbors make Bottles & Barrels more than a shop. It is a place where the community gathers, connections form over shared sips and the warmth inside is as strong as the glow outside. Every pour, every smile, every shared story reflects the heart of Ellsworth’s vision.

Crafting

Art of Drawers Omaha Turns Vision into Reality with Custom Storage Designs that Maximize Space and Meaning.

Smart Storage

Andrew and Brianna Boonstra were looking for a change, but not because they weren’t already busy.

Both had established careers and were new parents, having just welcomed a daughter, Lillian. Andrew had 14 years experience in HR technology sales while Brianna had spent the last 10 years working in healthcare as an occupational therapist. But they were itching for more. “We’ve always talked about different ways we can exit our corporate jobs and start something that’s a little bit more of our own,” Andrew explains.

Andrew and Brianna Boonstra pose with their daughter, Lillian, as they celebrate bringing Art of Drawers to the Omaha metro.

After a search for the perfect fit that involved a thorough exploration of their combined strengths, the Boonstras felt pulled to one company in particular: Art of Drawers.

Andrew was no stranger to smaller, startup companies, and he was intrigued by the idea of a venture connected to a larger, established organization. He also appreciated the wealth of experience Art of Drawers CEO Allan Young brought to the table. It was clear the products were elevated and high quality. In October 2024, they made the leap and brought Art of Drawers to the Omaha Metro.

Art of Drawers creates elegant, custom storage solutions that transform everyday spaces, proudly crafted in partnership with American manufacturers. Based in Omaha, the Boonstras serve the greater Omaha and Council Bluffs region. The company focuses on custom pull-out drawers and storage solutions for kitchens, pantries, bathrooms and laundry rooms, using proprietary design software and aiming to maximize existing space without a full remodel. What sets Art of Drawers apart is their selection of more than 10 wood species, solid wood drawer boxes with dovetail joinery, soft-close undermount rails that hold up

to 150 pounds and a lifetime warranty. Brianna says, “We can usually give you about 50 percent more storage in lower cabinets, and typically double your pantry space. Plus, we make it easy to access the back of cabinets that used to be hard to get to.”

Even family heirlooms and antiques can be incorporated into designs. Customizing armoires or desks to maximize storage is a creative way to hang on to beloved pieces. Brianna emphasizes, “Those items can’t be replaced or replicated, so it’s fun to make them more functional. I always enjoy a challenge and coming up with unique designs for awkward spaces.”

Both Brianna and Andrew found Art of Drawers to be a great use of the skills they honed in the corporate world. Putting her occupational therapy training to good use was an easy transition, Brianna says.

Art of Drawers provides Omaha homeowners custom pull-out drawers and storage solutions, transforming kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms efficiently.
Offering unique designs, Art of Drawers customizes storage for awkward spaces and heirlooms, blending functionality with craftsmanship for every Omaha home.
“WHEN

I WALK INTO A HOME, I NATURALLY THINK ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY, ERGONOMICS AND SAFETY, SO I LOOK AT SPACES A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY THAN A TYPICAL DESIGNER MIGHT. OUR CUSTOMERS REALLY APPRECIATE KNOWING MY BACKGROUND AND IT GIVES THEM CONFIDENCE IN THE SOLUTIONS WE DESIGN.”

“I love that this gives me a new way to use my occupational therapy knowledge and experience. When I walk into a home, I naturally think about accessibility, ergonomics and safety, so I look at spaces a little differently than a typical designer might. Our customers really appreciate knowing my background and it gives them confidence in the solutions I design,” explains Brianna.

As a complement to her occupational therapy work, Brianna is completing an Aging in Place certification, allowing her to further support customers in creating spaces that are not only functional but also safe and accessible as their needs change over time.

Andrew also found his strengths to be beneficial. He explains his upbringing and career prepared him for “being able to understand the basics of what goes into a job and the sales process and communicating with customers. Both of my parents were small business owners growing up too.”

The couple sees a future full of innovation and possibilities, with 3D rendering software being rolled out soon, as well as cabinet refacing services in the next year. The cabinet refacing process is low mess, using thermofoil material to wrap the client’s current cabinetry. All this expansion has the Boonstras looking to grow their team to manage demand.

They have also infused their business with heart. Andrew’s close friend Jake Dawson has spent the last five years battling stage-four neuroendocrine cancer. In 2021, Jake and his wife Taylor started Good Scan Cans, an organization focused on celebrating small victories and raising money for neuroendocrine cancer research. The Boonstras knew they

wanted to include Good Scan Cans in their business plan. Brianna says, “We really want to bring awareness to neuroendocrine cancer and their nonprofit.”

A portion of all their profits goes to Good Scan Cans.  Home show season kicks off in the fall, creating a chance to connect with the Boonstras face-to-face and explore design possibilities. Initial appointments are complimentary, with a full end-to-end design consultation usually taking around 90 minutes. Visit the Art of Drawers social media pages for more information on upcoming shows.

The Boonstras may have been looking for a change, but they are still surprised by how passionate they have become about the Art of Drawers adventure. Brianna says, “ We feel so lucky we found a business we truly love and enjoy.”

FROM LAW TO BOURBON

Shawn Ilg’s Revival of Golden Sheaf

The Nebraska sun sets over waving cornfields, painting the sky in hues of amber gold. It is a fitting backdrop for a drink as distinctly Nebraskan as Golden Sheaf Bourbon, a pre-Prohibition brand brought back to life.

In Omaha, serial entrepreneur Shawn Ilg shares how his work in banking, law and real estate expanded to include the revival of a whiskey once woven into Nebraska’s history. What began as

curiosity soon grew into a mission to restore a brand lost for more than a century.

“I got involved with something really special,” Ilg says. “Golden Sheaf is one of the state’s bestkept secrets.”

Golden Sheaf Bourbon started in 1866, a year before Nebraska became a state, and quickly became a major tax revenue driver for Nebraska. With deep ties to Omaha’s stockyards, the company’s whiskey

flowed through the region and beyond. But when Prohibition arrived in 1920, the brand met an untimely end. Unlike some distillers that switched to making medicinal whiskey, Golden Sheaf refused to pivot and allowed the brand to fade away.

For Ilg, rediscovering the Golden Sheaf name was about more than launching a product. He saw a chance to restore part of Nebraska’s heritage

and create something future generations could be proud of. Reviving the brand meant honoring its history while adapting to the tastes of modern bourbon drinkers.

Today, Golden Sheaf is produced as a smallbatch, artisanal whiskey that combines craftsmanship with innovation. The team sources high-quality spirits and ages them in distinctive barrels,

sometimes including red wine and maple syrup casks, to produce a portfolio of unique bourbons and ryes.

Each bottle carries a smooth flavor profile that reflects both tradition and creativity. Ilg is especially proud of the partnership with Bardstown Bourbon Co. in Kentucky, which has helped Golden Sheaf earn national recognition through awards and reputation. The partners are now working on bourbon made from scratch and products at varied price points.

Golden Sheaf is also building community around bourbon. In Omaha, the brand’s new

event center, located south of 144th and Center Streets, hosts weddings, trainings, corporate gatherings and monthly invite-only networking events. With a tasting room and space for up to 85 guests, it has become a place where people can share stories and raise a glass.

“It’s about bringing people together, like Nebraska always has,” Ilg says.

Looking ahead, Ilg is focused on promoting Golden Sheaf as Nebraska’s bourbon and a reason to expand the Bourbon Trail. A 10-year plan developed with Bardstown includes expansion

Tasting Room

into different states and partnerships with regional food producers. The vision is for Golden Sheaf to become a brand synonymous not just with bourbon, but with Nebraska pride.

Ilg’s own story adds depth to the bourbon’s revival. His career has spanned technology, banking, law, movie production and real estate, but Golden Sheaf is the project that blends his business expertise with personal passion. And while he speaks with enthusiasm about the whiskey’s future, his greatest pride remains his family. He describes his grown children, Michael and Amanda, as independent and driven, though with a laugh he admits, “Sometimes they even listen to me.”

Golden Sheaf is more than a drink. It is a revival of history and a love letter to Nebraska, blending heritage, heart and craftsmanship in every pour. Like an amber sunset over the plains, it is warm, authentic and deeply tied to the good life the Cornhusker State embodies.

Con Amor

ATIN DINING, CR A FTED WITH LO

Just outside Omaha city limits, nestled in the heart of Valley, Nebraska, Con Amor Latin Kitchen is redefining what it means to dine locally with flair. More than just a restaurant, Con Amor is a celebration of culture, flavor and hospitality.  For owner Elizabeth Salguero, food is more than just what ends up on the plate, its an experience.  One she crafts, “Con Amor”, with love.

“I have been in the restaurant industry for 15 years, and along the way I’ve learned food is so much more than just food. It is comfort, connection and love. That’s what led me to create Con Amor Latin Kitchen,” Salguero says. “‘Con Amor’ means ‘with love,’ and that’s exactly what we put into every dish, every drink, every detail. But my staff are the heart and soul here, the ones who greet you, cook with passion and make this place feel like home. Together, we’ve built more than a restaurant. We’ve built a little space of love for everyone.”

From the moment you step through the doors, the space feels intentionally designed. The interior strikes a balance between contemporary sophistication and vibrant Latin warmth. Natural textures, colorful accents and thoughtful design details set

the stage for meals that are as memorable visually as they are on the palate. It is a destination that feels just as fitting for a casual night out with friends as it does for a celebratory brunch or intimate date night.

The culinary philosophy here is simple yet ambitious: honor Latin American traditions while elevating them with creativity and care. Each dish is created through what the team describes as “trial, error and love,” an approach that results in food brimming with authenticity and personality.

Starters such as yuca frita, paired with tangy Salvadoran curtido, or tostones with vibrant chimichurri and guacamole, are the perfect

introduction to the flavors ahead. For something indulgent, the birria nachos take center stage, layering tender, slow-cooked beef with rich cheese and zesty salsa. Main courses continue the journey: the Molcajete Con Amor, served sizzling in a traditional stone bowl, brings together steak, shrimp, chicken, bacon and chorizo in a hearty, communal dish that feels both rustic and refined. Lighter fare, such as the birria bowl with cilantro-tomatillo rice and fresh pico de gallo, proves equally satisfying.

Not to be overshadowed, the cocktail menu deserves its own spotlight. Drinks are crafted

with the same attention to flavor and detail as the food, offering bright, refreshing pairings that elevate the dining experience. Guests rave about their vibrancy, noting the drinks alone are worth the visit.

Whether you’re seeking an elevated evening, a place to share a meal with loved ones or simply a taste of Latin culture in the heart of Nebraska, Con Amor Latin Kitchen delivers. Every plate, every sip and every detail is crafted with intention. Crafted with love, as the name promises, con amor.

Nestled in the heart of Valley, Con Amor is a vibrant celebration of Latin culinary traditions, infused with modern flair and a deep passion for authenticity. Every dish tells a story.
