This month, we’re focusing on exploration—not just the kind that requires a passport, but the kind that starts right outside your own back door.
We’re leaning into the idea that “exploration” doesn’t have to mean far-flung adventures across oceans. Sure, we love a jet-setting overseas trip as much as anyone, but sometimes the most meaningful - and realistic - discoveries happen closer to home. This issue is about finding luxury in the familiar and seeing the world with fresh eyes, even if that world is your own backyard.
Think about what it means to transform your outdoor space into something extraordinary. A custom pool surrounded by thoughtful landscaping isn’t just a design statement—it’s an experience. It’s Saturday afternoons spent in the water, evenings lit by the soft light of the fire feature, and a sense of escape that doesn’t require leaving home. That’s exactly what Elite Luxury Pools and Landscaping delivers with their custom designs—so much so that you may not want to leave home.
We’re also shining a spotlight on Junkstock, a USA Today top-rated festival that takes place twice a year, right here in our community. Vendors and festivalgoers come from around the world to experience the sights, sounds and creativity of Junkstock. Read more about its humble beginnings and the incredible growth it’s experienced over the years, then mark your calendar for their upcoming fall festival.
If you’re craving a getaway with purpose, look no further than Lied Lodge at Arbor Day Farm. It’s one of those rare places where luxury meets sustainability, where reconnecting with nature feels both indulgent and grounding—and it’s the perfect distance for an easy weekend escape.
Finally, explore a new path to wellness in this issue by learning more about Unity Wellness and their focus on NUCCA chiropractic care. This gentle alternative to traditional methods might be just what you need to get back to feeling your best.
So whether you're crossing borders, state lines or simply the threshold to your own backyard oasis—here’s to exploring. To finding joy in the familiar or discovering something brand new.
Cheers to exploring!

It’s 1994 in the community of Amburst Acres in Omaha, and you’ll likely spot young Jason Decker going door-todoor offering lawn-care services. At just 11 years old, he’d already launched a budding business—and his sights were set higher. Decker was determined and focused—and that hasn’t changed.
Today, Decker turned that childhood hustle into a thriving, award-winning pool and landscape business. Fueled by a passion to succeed, a drive to be the best and a desire to prove the skeptics wrong, he’s become a leader in pool and landscape design. His company, Elite Luxury Pools and Landscaping is now the premier destination for quality craftsmanship, reliability and standout design. With 13 International Awards of Excellence from the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance, Elite Luxury Pools and Landscaping has distinguished itself as the exceptional choice for pools, spas, hot tubs and water features that embody beauty, creativity and innovation. Behind it all, stands Jason Decker.
School had been challenging for Decker in his early years. What might have discouraged others only fueled Decker’s drive to succeed. His lawn-mowing business quickly became a reliable source of income and by eighth grade, he was subcontracting accounts to his older brother while working on his uncle’s farm to learn even more.
A freshman in high school, Decker handed off his lawn accounts to a local company and began to sharpen his skills. He began devouring books on landscaping and gardening—and even taught himself how to install a patio.
The landscaping company he worked for soon started offering patios, walls and water features -largely thanks to Decker’s relentless drive to learn new skills. By the time he was 16, he had worked his way up to foreman, leading a five-man crew.
“I didn’t put up with a lot of flack and we got the work done,” Decker says with a smile.
But that familiar itch had returned. Decker knew it was time to go back into business for himself.
At 17, Decker was ready to make things official. Elite Landscaping was born. “I remember seeing the word ‘elite’ on an Igloo cooler when I was 14,” Decker says. “I liked how it looked and I liked how it made me feel. I wanted to be the best and ‘elite’ defined that for me.”
Decker’s business quickly outgrew his parents’ garage. By the time he was 19, he had assembled a crew and was operating out of a storage facility near 156th and Q streets.
“I had the opportunity to be mentored by some pretty successful guys in the business,” Decker recalls. “I remember showing up to a job site in flip-flops and shorts. Andy Mallory of AM Concrete walked up to me and gave me some business advice I still follow to this day: ‘If you want to be taken seriously, you wear work boots and pants.’ I’ve worn work boots and pants ever since.”
With a twinkle in his eye, Decker reflects on how grateful he is for the many people who encouraged him and helped shape him into the leader he is today. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without them,” Decker says.
Building a successful landscaping business seemed destined for Decker. His reputation for quality work kept referrals coming in but those early days required a lot of canvassing.
“We did everything in west Omaha. We passed out flyersliterally door-to-door,” Decker says. “We never turned down a
job. At first, it was putting in three rose bushes, but after a while business really began to pick up as people started to recognize our trucks and our marketing.”
In 2005, Decker began setting up booths at local home shows. On what was supposed to be a slow day, he connected with his first pool and landscaping client.
“We did everything but the pool,” Decker explains. “The outdoor kitchen, the pool deck, the pool house. We hauled all the dirt, laid the sod, did the landscaping—and I designed it myself.”
Although it was a bit of a stretch at the time, Decker tackled the project with the same grit and determination that would shape his company’s future.
Over the years, Decker continued to hone his skills and develop his team. By 2016 Elite had started to build pools in-house. In 2022, Elite Landscaping had evolved into Elite Luxury Pools and Landscaping, firmly establishing the company as the go-to source for jaw-dropping designs and pool construction.
In the fall of 2023, Decker earned his IWI accreditation, a designation requiring approximately 256 hours of continuing education; only about 80 professionals worldwide hold the certification, making it a rare and prestigious accomplishment.
With mentors who design homes for celebrities and high-profile clients, Decker feels fortunate to be part of such an esteemed group.
“I’m really proud of our team here at Elite,” Decker says. “And winning The Pinnacle Award has to be one of the highlights of my career.”
The design that earned this notable award is known as The Sanctuary Project. Tucked into the hills of west Omaha, the pool features Lautner edge detailing, where the water and marble pool deck meet at the same elevation. “That’s probably one of the coolest details in the swimming pool world—and one of the hardest,” Decker reflects. “We’ve done infinity edges before but this is a Lautner edge-to-infinity-edge. The whole surface is like looking into a mirror.”
Despite leading a highly sought-after landscaping company, Decker always kept his heart open to finding someone to build a family with. In 2015, he met his now-wife, Bobbie.
“A friend asked if I was seeing anyone. When I said no, she asked if I was open to it. I told her, ‘For the right one, you make time.’ The rest is history,” Decker recalls. “A year later, we were engaged—and now we have two amazing kids together.”
As Decker reflects on his achievements, he’s quick to share what he’s most proud of: being a husband and a dad. “There really is nothing better.”
Jason Decker’s story is one of unrelenting focus and determination—a driving desire to prove critics wrong and leave a lasting mark on his community. From the moment he pushed his first mower to the
“We have you covered every step of the way. From the design to the pool and plants, you’re in good hands.”
days you will still find him bringing lunch to his crew or jumping in to help dig a ditch, Decker has shown he doesn’t just talk the talk - he walks it.
Elite prides itself on providing a seamless, turnkey process for its clients. Decker works closely with each client from the initial conceptual design and material selections to final construction plans. He is supported by dedicated in-house crews - many of whom have been with him since the beginning - as well as a construction manager who oversees the entire process.
This is where Elite’s quality and expertise truly stand out, setting them apart from their competition.
“We have you covered every step of the way. From design, to the pool and plants, you’re in good hands,” Decker says.
But it’s not just about the build - it’s the service after the build that really matters. Elite’s crews continue to maintain and service their pool builds and landscaping projects to keep them in award-winning condition.
Jason Decker, founder of Elite Luxury Pools and Landscaping, began his business journey at age 11 in Omaha. What started as mowing lawns evolved into an award-winning pool and landscape company known for excellence and innovation. With 13 international awards and a rare IWI accreditation, Jason leads a dedicated team delivering luxury outdoor spaces. Above all, he’s proudest of his role as a husband, father and hands-on leader. Learn more at eliteluxurypool.com.

“It reminded me of Woodstock, the people I had met in the junking community. So I just thought of this idea of ‘Junkstock’ — peace, love and junk. It was perfect.”
If you’ve lived in Omaha at any point over the last 10 years, odds are you’ve either visited or heard about this eclectic, magical festival that pops up twice a year on a farm just outside the city. You’ve probably also seen its whimsical themes on social media — backdrops that set the stage for weekends filled with oneof-a-kind finds, amazing food, live music and a whole lot of peace, love and junk.
The festival began in 2012 in a walk-in chicken coop. Since then, it has grown into a globally celebrated marketplace, attracting thousands of attendees this past spring alone. Visitors now come from across the United States — and even internationally, including guests from Aruba and Germany.
At the heart of it all is visionary founder Sara Alexander, a vintage-lover with a passion for unique decor. Her determination, creativity and the support of the “junk” community across the country have turned Junkstock into something truly special — a place where every discarded item is celebrated and every knick and knack is valued not just for its worth, but for the story it tells.
Sara Alexander didn’t grow up dreaming of starting a junk festival. In fact, she’ll be the first to tell you she lives in the moment and doesn’t plan too far ahead.
“I’m kind of a person that doesn’t go too far into the future,” she said. “I like to be along for the ride.”
When she and her husband bought their first home — a fixer-upper — thrifting began out of necessity. Alexander searched for affordable ways to decorate, but what started as a practical option quickly turned into a full-blown obsession.
“I got addicted to finding unique, fun and funky things at flea markets and thrift stores,” Alexander
said. “By the time our home was done, our garage was full to the brim.”
Then one day, a Facebook ad for Junk Jubilee in Des Moines, Iowa, popped up in her feed. On a whim, Alexander decided to apply as a vendor.
“I loaded up the trailer with all the stuff from the garage and went to Des Moines,” Alexander recalled. “I just became instant friends with these kindred spirits — and I think I made $4,000 that weekend.”
When Alexander returned from her trip to Des Moines, she brought home more than just money. She returned with a deep sense of belonging and a vision for something bigger.
“After Junk Jubilee, I thought this could be something I could do that would allow me to continue to stay at home with my young children,” Alexander recalled. “So when I came back, I looked on Craigslist for a place to rent to do a once-a-month sale.”
Alexander rented an old chicken coop for $100 a month and began hosting monthly marketplaces. The success of those events led her to rent the farm near 192nd and Dodge streets where the coop was located. During a drive past the property, she looked out over the land and imagined something bigger: Omaha’s very own junk festival.
“It was a very unique, historic dairy farm, and it was in a good location and had the room,” Alexander said. “It reminded me of Woodstock, with the people I had met in the junking community. So I just thought of this idea of ‘Junkstock’ — peace, love and junk. It was the perfect theme.”
Twenty-four vendors participated in the very first Junkstock. Old tires found on the farm were painted and hung to form a huge peace sign on the front of the barn.
If you can appreciate the people that come into your life for a reason — for however long — and even in small ways — it always comes back tenfold. “ ”
“We had such a huge turnout for the first one,” Alexander said. “I remember seeing so many people with their pictures by that peace sign. It was really cool.”
Junkstock has continued to grow every year since its start in 2012, and now Alexander and her team are celebrating 14 years of magic and inspiration. What began as a small operation has blossomed into a fullfledged family affair. Alexander’s husband left his full-time job this past spring to join the team. Their son sells Middle Eastern–inspired strawberries, and sisters, aunts, dads and moms all pitch in to make Junkstock a reality.
It’s the people behind Junkstock who truly bring it to life. The creative crew develops the themes, while a group of women source all the items needed to bring those ideas to fruition. Artists hand-paint the signage, and carpenters and builders play a foundational role each year. Another group handles staging, while others craft stunning floral and fauna displays.
Although they’ve collaborated on themes for only five years, these collaborators work seamlessly to gather everything needed to bring each whimsical vision to life.
This spring’s “By the Sea” theme was a particular favorite of Alexander’s, as it beautifully reflected her love for all things sun and surf. Without giving too much away, she hinted that this fall’s theme might be all about nature. “Think of trees and the great outdoors,” she said.
What began as a garage full of odds and ends has evolved into what Junkstock is today — a joyful, twice-ayear celebration of creativity, community and secondhand treasures. In many ways, it’s a “pebbling” paradise.
Pebbling — a term inspired by the behavior of gentoo penguins — refers to small, thoughtful acts of kindness done to show love, care and appreciation. These gestures are often simple but carry emotional significance, and that form of love comes straight from the top.
“If you can appreciate the people that come into your life for a reason — for however long — and even in small ways — it always comes back tenfold,” Alexander reflected. “All the people that have walked through these doors have a special part in making this event into what it is.”
That, in many ways, captures the spirit of Junkstock — the joy of discovering something special and sharing it with others. The makers and artists who create handmade, oneof-a-kind pieces, along with the vendors who curate unique vintage finds, are the true gift-givers. They’ve spent countless hours crafting, designing, and creating — and days on end exploring thrift stores, flea markets and vintage shops. All to gather treasures that spark memories, stir emotions and remind us of the people we love.
And for every person who is blessed enough to walk the grounds at Junkstock, there’s magic waiting. Visitors are blessed by the love of the place, inspired by its charm — and when the day comes to a close and they find themselves on their way home, they are sent away with all the love a Midwestern community can offer — their hearts full of care and their arms full of “pebbles,” courtesy of Junkstock.

Danielle Stalp’s mission to heal with Unity Wellness
Dr. Danielle is no stranger to pain. In fact, she’s well acquainted with it.
A longtime migraine sufferer, she remembers having her first one at just 11 years old. Over the years, doctors explored a range of treatment options—from diet changes to medications.
“They tried everything,” Dr. Danielle recalls. “I was able to manage them through sleep, stress management, food, and knowing my triggers, but they were never consistently gone.”
A Michigan native, Dr. Danielle says her search for the source of her pain became a powerful motivator. In graduate school, she was introduced to NUCCA—the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association. This specialized, gentle chiropractic technique focuses on aligning the upper cervical spine to improve overall health, function and posture.
NUCCA changed her life.
The technique has kept her migraine-free for months at a time. Inspired by the results, Dr. Danielle made it her mission to deliver the same kind of care to others through NUCCA chiropractic and functional medicine. With only a few hundred NUCCA practitioners across the United States and Canada, her presence in Elkhorn is a unique and valuable asset to the community.
Dr. Danielle says her personal experience with migraines is what ultimately led her to start her own health clinic. “I can sympathize with people’s pain because I’ve been there,” she says. “I don’t believe anyone should have to live with pain, and it’s become part of my mission to help others feel better. Pain is not normal.”
She opened Unity Wellness in 2019 with a vision to serve patients through individualized care. Three years ago, she completed a functional medicine program, expanding her ability to help patients with a wide range of health concerns. Functional medicine works to reduce inflammation, which helps patients maintain their NUCCA adjustments longer. The two disciplines often go hand in hand.
“My goal has always been to focus on the whole body and educate patients so they feel empowered by the knowledge they receive,” she says. “I encourage patients to actively participate in the healing process. The body is a self-healing organism. It’s very intelligent.”
Dr. Danielle’s dream has always been to offer one location where multiple services work together to provide the best in natural health care. She believes collaboration with other practitioners only enhances the quality of care offered.
Unity Wellness isn’t just for migraine sufferers. Her training also supports patients dealing with fibromyalgia, TMJ, sciatica, carpal tunnel, vertigo and chronic pain conditions.
“We look at the body as a whole unit, providing a customized experience for every patient.”
The practice has clearly filled a need, drawing patients from well beyond Elkhorn. Some travel hours to receive the care they need to improve their quality of life.
In addition to her growing practice, Dr. Danielle is passionate about education—not only for her patients but also for the next generation of chiropractors. She currently teaches chiropractic techniques, including NUCCA, at Life West through Bellevue University.
At Unity Wellness, NUCCA and functional medicine are the foundation for identifying the source of pain and providing lasting relief. Dr. Danielle’s focus is on
expanding access to this unique approach. “Our care is different—we look at the body as a whole unit, providing a customized experience for every patient,” she says.
Danielle sees a bright future for Unity Wellness. “My goal is to add another doctor to the office so we can serve more people. There’s just so many people out there who are sick or suffering, and they don’t even know about NUCCA,” she says.

Tucked away just an hour outside Omaha, beside Nebraska’s iconic cornfields, lies a little piece of heaven that’s truly good for what ails you. Whether it’s the stress of daily life or the need to unplug, Arbor Day Farm offers the kind of reprieve, reconnection and restoration that only comes from walking among the trees.
A welcome escape from the hustle, this 150-year-old property is home to the stately yet cozy Lied Lodge—140 rooms of rustic charm with soaring ceilings. With a full-service restaurant, Timbers, plus hiking trails, the Tree Adventure, a U-pick orchard and more, it’s a must-visit for every Nebraskan.
Rachel Hrabik, marketing manager at Arbor Day Farm, said the property is something special.
“The peace and serenity you experience here, surrounded by thousands of trees, is unlike anything in our day-to-day lives,” she said. “My hope is that when people visit, they find the rest and relaxation they need.”
Arbor Day was founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton with a mission: to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. On his journey from Michigan, Morton stopped in Omaha, was struck by the lack of trees and began planting saplings he had brought with him.
Since that first Arbor Day, it’s estimated more than 500 million trees have been planted. Today, the property is rich with apple, sweet gum, oak, poplar and ash trees, offering shade and a symphony of birdsong from the many species that now call it home.
A visit to Arbor Day Farm promises unforgettable adventure— starting with the Tree Adventure. This nature-themed attraction features a 3-acre Treetop Village with 11 interconnected treehouses linked by suspended bridges, soaring up to 50 feet in the air.
One highlight is the WonderNet, which Hrabik describes as “a huge floating web that acts like an amazing trampoline — a bouncing haven of fun.”
“It’s amazing to see adults here for a corporate meeting start bouncing and instantly turn into kids again—laughing, giggling. It’s so much fun,” she said.
Nearby is the U-pick flower and orchard area, where guests can gather zinnias, cosmos, daffodils and sunflowers.
“It’s so beautiful,” Hrabik said. “Even if you don’t pick the flowers, just taking some photos is a memorable experience.”
Tours also run Tuesday through Sunday through the historic home of J. Sterling Morton.
“You can do a self-guided tour,” Hrabik said. “But I’d recommend one of our trained staff—they’re incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the home and the property.”
If you’ve spent any time in Omaha during the fall, you’ve likely heard of the AppleJack Festival—an annual event held over two weekends in Nebraska City.
The festival celebrates all things apple, and Arbor Day Farm goes all out as it kicks off its busiest season. With dozens of apple varieties, the event features U-pick apple activities, live music, wine and cider tastings, food trucks, Porter’s BBQ and living history demonstrations at Arbor Lodge Mansion.
“It’s a really special time,” Hrabik said. “I love being able to say that we grow the apples here, pick them by hand and press them into our own apple cider. And really—who doesn’t love a good apple cider slushie?”
This June, Arbor Day Farm debuted its wine club, following the planting of 5 acres of vineyard.
“The wines are specially curated by our on-site sommelier, Sarah Wiebold,” Hrabik said. “She does a fantastic job pairing wines with the seasons and offering food pairing suggestions, too.”
Spanning 260 acres of natural beauty, rich history and immersive experiences, Arbor Day Farm is designed to leave visitors wanting to come back. From cozy overnight stays and treetop adventures to orchard tastings and trails that wind through time, every visit offers something new to explore for families and adults alike. Visit arbordayfarm.org to learn more.
“My hope is that when people visit, they find the rest and relaxation they need.”
A brand-new menu has debuted at Timbers, the full-service, upscale casual restaurant inside Lied Lodge. Under Chef Garrett Kasper, Timbers offers a fresh, contemporary take on Midwestern comfort food, with many ingredients sourced locally—including some from the farm’s own garden.
“Chef Kasper’s vision is to thoughtfully source our ingredients and really consider not just where they’re coming from, but how they’re getting here,” Hrabik said. “Eventually, much of the restaurant’s produce will come directly from our on-site garden.”
The menu includes creative twists—like nori on Timbers’ chicken sandwich.
“He’s really nailed that savory, umami flavor,” Hrabik added. “It’s just enough to surprise you without stepping too far outside the familiar.”
Chef Kasper is also reimagining Porter’s, the BBQ-inspired casual eatery at Apple House Market. Soon, guests will see farm-fresh options alongside family favorites like mac and cheese and brisket sliders.
Whether you’re looking for a quick day trip or a much-needed escape from life’s busyness, Arbor Day Farm has something for everyone. From an indoor pool and spa that restores your calm to outdoor adventures that bring families closer, this place delivers.
Take a quiet walk among the poplars or explore the grounds in any season—each has its own magic. In winter, trees wear a blanket of snow; in fall, golden hues transform the landscape into something otherworldly.
Whatever you’re seeking—adventure, rest or simply a moment to breathe—Arbor Day Farm invites you in. Walk through its doors, turn off your phone and sit by the fire for a while. It’s good for what ails you.

Ingredients:
• 10 fresh mint leaves
• 1 lime, cut into wedges
• 2 tablespoons white sugar (or simple syrup, to taste)
