Welcome Home,

Wonder Women

Have you heard the story of Amanda Hess, M.D., the OB/GYN who delivered her patient’s baby just as she was about to give birth to her own child?

As she was in labor, Hess heard screams from a woman down the hall and recognized her as a patient she had seen during her final prenatal appointment just the week before. Nurses told Hess that the woman’s baby was coming faster than expected, the umbilical cord was wrapped loosely around the child's neck, and the on-call doctor had left for a break.

Despite being in labor herself, Hess immediately jumped into action, putting on a gown and boots, and quickly went to the other woman’s room to assist. Hess helped deliver the baby, and then she returned to her room to give birth to her own daughter.

I love this story so much. If this doesn’t show how incredible women are, then I don’t know what does!

As I grew up, I was fortunate to be surrounded by strong women. My mother, who was a single mom for many years, defines resilience. I was also blessed to know three of my great-grandmothers and three grandmothers (including one “bonus-grandmother,” as I like to call her).

Each of these women demonstrated different talents and strengths, raising families, canning, cooking, and growing and tending a homestead and gardens. Two of my grandmothers were business owners, one operating a furniture upholstery shop for years (ironically, I cannot sew a simple stitch) and another that ran her own, nearly all-female, business from an office in downtown Houston. (I fondly remember doing cartwheels down the hallway when I visited her at work.)

These are just a few examples of the vast diversity of women that help keep this world steady and nurtured. In this issue, we feature a sampling of the great women of our community. You can read about the creativity of a jewelry designer, the dedication of a pediatrician, the compassionate support offered to women at our local Pregnancy Resource Center, and the power of mother-daughter business teams working together.

Finally, you won’t want to miss meeting our first annual Dripping Springs Woman of the Year! Our Drip neighbors nominated many outstanding women for their contributions to the community—it was a difficult task narrowing it down to just one, and we are excited to share her story on page 82.  Ladies, this issue celebrates YOU.

Meet the Editor

DRIPPING SPRINGS ISN’T JUST A PLACE—IT’S A FEELING, A COMMUNITY, AND A WAY OF LIFE.

I’ve always searched for connection. Not the kind found in likes, shares, or a perfectly curated feed, but the kind that’s felt deep in your bones—the connection that roots you to a place and its people.

I may be a little biased, but I believe Dripping Springs offers that kind of connection that feeds the soul. It’s a town where neighbors tailgate on Friday nights, local businesses know your name, and a simple trip to H-E-B can turn into an evening around a backyard firepit. It’s where I’ve built my life as a wife, a mom to three kids, and an ever-hopeful wrangler of chickens and bees.

My family thrives in the rhythm of this place, whether we’re gathering eggs in the morning, walking Creek Road as the sun sets, or welcoming friends over for good food and even better conversation. Life here is about more than just living; it’s about truly belonging.

As the editor of this magazine, my mission is to open your eyes to all the ways Dripping Springs connects us—to the land we walk on, the businesses that keep our town thriving, and, most importantly, to each other.

Whether you've lived here for generations or just rolled in with a dream and a front porch in mind, I hope these pages help you see what makes our town so special.

Dripping Springs isn’t just a place—it’s a feeling, a community, and a way of life. And I’m honored to be part of telling its story.

What a Difference a Year Makes

GLOW MEDSPA HELPS YOU ACHIEVE YOUR AESTHETIC GOALS

Why does it take a year to achieve my aesthetic goals?

There is a point when people start looking in the mirror and think their skin needs an improvement—that their wrinkles are now permanent or that they simply don’t look as refreshed as before.

This is when many people start looking online for treatments they think will help or come to a place like Glow Medspa Dripping.

At Glow Medspa, we frequently do consultations to discuss concerns and treatment plans. We tell our clients to give us a year and we can help them get the results they desire. Yes, you will look and feel better after just one treatment, but oh what a difference a year can make. Whether your treatments are something we do in house or refer out to other specialists, we take a whole-person approach to create a plan to help you reach your aesthetic goals.

The key word here: plan. Going backwards in time takes a plan and requires multiple treatment modalities to achieve your goals.

When you are concerned about loss of volume in your face or hollowing:

With use of weight loss medications like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, many people find that their faces quickly lose volume. Products like Sculptra are necessary to help round out the face and restore that youthful volume. Think of Sculptra as a tool to help build your own collagen.

Fillers are another option to boost volume in areas that need very specific building. Think of lips, chin, jaw, temples, and cheeks—these areas of the face lose volume over time. When filler is done by a skilled artist, it creates a more youthful and balanced face.

“Yes, you will look and feel better after just one treatment, but oh what a difference a year can make. We take a whole-person approach to create a plan to help you reach your aesthetic goals.”

When you are concerned about skin laxity, dullness, or sun damage: At Glow Medspa, we believe that the health of your skin is the number-one contributor to aging. We offer a new type of CO2 laser that protects the outer layer of skin but still produces the results of traditional CO2 lasers. Loose skin is a problem as we age, and this laser tightens and repairs, rebuilding collagen from the inside out and rejuvenating your skin.

If a laser is not for you, there are always VI chemical peels that get rid of those dull top layers of skin, reduce pigmentation, and increase collagen.

Of course, don’t forget the sunscreen! Preventing damage before it starts is key, and high-quality products like those in the Revision Skincare line are a great first step.

When you are concerned about wrinkles:

Improving skin and increasing youthful volume does wonders to help a person restore balance to their face, but often we need to get to the root of the problem by softening the muscle pull that creates wrinkles in the first place. At Glow Medspa, we offer neuromodulators, like Dysport and Botox. These treatments can absolutely be performed very naturally so your eyes look more open and facial expressions more relaxed.

Dysport and Boxtox treatments need to be done every three to four months. When people do regular treatments, their wrinkles are drastically reduced within six to 12 months, especially when combined with CO2 laser, VI peels, and Revision Skincare. GlowMedSpaDripping.com

HAUS OF JAYNE

Woman-Owned Business Brings a Boutique Approach to Wellness

PHOTOGRAPHY BY

Walking into Haus of Jayne isn’t like stepping into a typical cannabis shop. There are no overwhelming shelves packed with unfamiliar products, no rushed transactions, and certainly no judgment. Instead, visitors are welcomed into a warm, boutique-style space designed to feel inviting and empowering—a place where education comes first, and every customer’s wellness journey is supported with care.

“We’re here with open hearts and listening ears, ready to guide and support each person.” - Haley Hunt

At the heart of it all is a passion for natural healing and a belief in the power of plant-based medicine.

“Haus of Jayne was born out of a deep passion for natural wellness and the belief that cannabis can be a powerful tool for healing, relaxation, and balance,” says the shop’s co-founder Haley Hunt. “Our journey started with a desire to educate and empower people—especially women—about the benefits of hemp and plant-based medicine.”

From the moment the idea for Haus of Jayne germinated, the goal was to create a space that felt different—one where people could feel comfortable asking questions and exploring cannabis as a natural wellness option. Many dispensaries focus on sales, but here, education is at the forefront. Their carefully curated selection includes high-quality, organic, and third-party-tested products, and they take the time to guide each customer to what works best for them.

“We take a highly personalized, education-first approach,” explains co-owner Christy Spanton. “Many dispensaries focus on trends, but we focus on what truly benefits our customers." This hands-on approach ensures that customers—whether new to cannabis or longtime users—feel confident in their choices.

One of the most distinctive aspects of Haus of Jayne is its commitment to supporting women’s wellness. As a woman-owned business in an industry traditionally dominated by men, the shop provides a new perspective that understands the unique ways cannabis can support women’s health.

“The cannabis industry has long been male-dominated, but as a woman-owned business, we bring a fresh perspective,” Hunt shares. “We create a welcoming, stigma-free space where women can feel comfortable asking questions and learning about plant medicine.”

Many of the products offered at Haus of Jayne are tailored specifically for women, addressing concerns like stress, sleep issues, hormonal balance, and overall well-being. But it’s not just about the products—it’s about creating a space where women feel heard and supported.

“Sometimes, a visit to Haus of Jayne isn’t just about purchasing a product—it’s about having a moment to breathe, to ask questions without judgment, or even to share what’s on their mind,” Hunt says. “We’re here with open hearts and listening ears, ready to guide and support each person on their cannabis journey, whatever that may look like for them.”

One of the biggest barriers preventing women from exploring cannabis is stigma. Despite the growing acceptance of hemp and CBD products, many women still hesitate to try them—whether due to misconceptions, societal pressures, or lack of knowledge. Haus of Jayne is on a mission to change that.

“Women often carry the weight of their families, careers, and communities on their shoulders,” Spanton explains. “Yet, many are hesitant to explore cannabis due to stigma or lack of knowledge. We believe in changing that by making education accessible and by offering natural solutions that support both physical and mental well-being.”

As a local business, Haus of Jayne is deeply rooted in the Dripping Springs community. This is a place where neighbors connect, where education meets empowerment, and where wellness is prioritized.

“As

a local business, Haus of Jayne is deeply rooted in the Dripping Springs community. This is a place where neighbors connect, where education meets empowerment, and where wellness is prioritized.”

“Dripping Springs is all about community, connection, and supporting small businesses—values that align perfectly with Haus of Jayne,” says Hunt. “Being local means we’re your neighbors, friends, and advocates for holistic wellness.”

“Haus of Jayne is more than just a business— it’s a passion project built on the idea that

cannabis can be a powerful tool for wellness and connection,” Hunt proudly states. “We’re a family-run shop, deeply invested in our community and committed to making a difference in people’s lives. Whether you’re new to cannabis or an experienced user, we welcome you with open arms and are here to help you find what works best for you.”

“I was born to do this.”

Molly Phillips has been drawn to bold statement jewelry since she was a little girl. At 16, she landed a job at a jewelry store, sparking a lifelong passion. She later majored in art with a focus in sculpture during college and, through many design classes, gravitated toward jewelry, eventually launching her own jewelry line. Fast forward to today, and Molly Phillips Jewelry has skyrocketed—it's been featured in Vogue Magazine, worn by celebrities, and crowned Best Jewelry by Austin Monthly in 2018.

Now, as a stay-at-home mom, she’s gearing up for her next big move: taking her wildly successful online business into a one-of-a-kind retail experience—right here in Dripping Springs.

MORE THAN A STORE

For Phillips, Dripping Springs was the obvious choice for her destination jewelry store, aptly named Dripping Diamonds—a playful nod to both the town and her dazzling designs.

“You’re going to feel like you walked into a party when you step inside,” she shares. “Dance music, Dolly Parton energy, a cowgirl-meets-glam vibe—neon signs, pink everywhere, disco balls, and plenty of sparkle.” Her goal is to create a space where every woman walks out feeling empowered, radiant, and unapologetically bold.

“YOU’RE GOING TO FEEL LIKE YOU WALKED INTO A party WHEN YOU STEP INSIDE.

“I knew I found the perfect spot when we found the actual dripping springs our town is named after at the back of our future store location in downtown,” she says. “This is the home for Dripping Diamonds!”

JEWELRY THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES

Phillips designs for women who wear their hearts on their sleeves and aren’t afraid to stand out. Her signature style is bold, textured, sparkly, and unforgettable. One word to describe her jewelry: remarkable. “Jewelry worthy of speaking about again, and that’s what I want our store to feel like,” Phillips explains.

What sets Molly Phillips Jewelry apart? The commitment to quality craftsmanship and attention to detail ensures that every piece not only looks stunning but also stands the test of time. Fine, high-quality materials make all the difference. While mass-produced, fast-fashion jewelry is often made from alloys, coated in metal plating, and eventually thrown away, Phillips’ fine jewelry pieces are meant to last a lifetime and beyond.

“Fine jewelry is a feel-good purchase because it is one of the only fashion purchases that is recycled,” she explains. “Sustainability matters, and fine jewelry should be heirloom-worthy—something you can pass down for generations.”

Beyond aesthetics, Phillips sees jewelry as a form of self-expression and empowerment. “I believe jewelry should be as unique and fun as the individual who wears it,” she says. “It’s a great way to express yourself without saying a word.”

WHY SHE DOES IT

As a woman-owned business, Phillips has built her brand on perseverance, passion, and purpose. “I don’t believe in quitting. I’m super passionate about fashion, who you are, and making your dream jewelry come to life,” she shares.

“I

BELIEVE JEWELRY SHOULD BE AS unique AND FUN AS THE INDIVIDUAL WHO wears IT.”

Flipping through messages from clients, Phillips gets emotional thinking about the personal stories behind the pieces she creates. From custom designs to family medallions, her work is about more than jewelry—it’s about connection and building relationships. She never takes for granted the privilege of helping women see the beauty in themselves.

“I heard a quote one time—‘Fashion and philanthropy should be synonymous’—and that is my why,” she shares. With a heart for giving back, Phillips has supported countless charities over the years, including Operation Smile and the Austin Bulldog Rescue.

Whether it's a statement necklace that steals the spotlight or dainty earrings perfect for brunch with friends, Molly Phillips Jewelry offers a thoughtfully curated selection designed to suit a variety of styles. With an emphasis on individuality and craftsmanship, each piece adds a distinctive touch to any collection.

Phillips says, “I’d love to bring your vision to life, see your inspiration, and work with you to create something you never want to stop wearing. Just reach out!” The Dripping Diamonds store is set to open in early fall 2025—and it’s bound to be the sparkliest spot in town. BULLDOG in HEELS

Let’s be real—real estate isn’t just about selling houses; it’s about solving problems, telling stories, and sometimes even scrubbing floors. And after more than 15 years in the business, I’ve done it all!

I moved to Dripping Springs in 2005, and by 2007, I was diving headfirst into real estate—right in the middle of a market crash. Perfect timing, right? But instead of running for the hills, I embraced the challenge and got to work.

In 2009, I joined Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty, where I learned how a luxury brand could elevate my business as well as my clients’ homes. It was an amazing experience, but I recently made the switch to @Properties | Christie's International Real Estate. I wanted something more boutique, a company with deep local roots but global reach. It just felt right

My Life as a Dripping Springs Realtor

Being a realtor in Dripping Springs isn’t just a job for me; it’s personal. My clients aren’t just clients; they’re my neighbors, my friends, and sometimes even extended family. I don’t just help people buy and sell homes—I help them build lives here. And that means going above and beyond. One day I’m negotiating a high-stakes deal, and the next I’m fluffing pillows, staging a home, raking leaves, or even picking up a client’s dog from the kennel. Whatever it takes, I’m in!

Of course, being a single mom and running a business comes with its challenges. One of the biggest? People sometimes underestimate me in negotiations. But here’s the thing: I don’t just push for the hardest deal; I build relationships. I get to know the other agent, figure out what truly matters to all parties, and create a win-win situation that makes everyone happy. And just when someone thinks they can outmaneuver me, they realize they’re up against the “bulldog in heels.” (Yes, someone actually called me that and, honestly, I love it!)

Through all the chaos, I wouldn’t change a thing. Dripping Springs is my home, my business, and my community. And at the end of the day, nothing makes me happier than helping my clients—whether it’s finding their dream home, getting top dollar for their sale, or just making their real estate journey as smooth as possible.

So if you ever need a realtor who’s got your back (and isn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves), you know where to find me!

PEDIATRICIAN CHRISTY JENSEN OFFERS ACCESSIBLE, INDIVIDUALIZED HEALTH CARE TO DRIPPING SPRINGS FAMILIES

As the mother of three school-age children, Christy Jensen, M.D., understands the weight of worry that comes with being a parent. She also feels the pressure of balancing a commitment to her medical career with an unwavering devotion to her kids. This inspired her to create Sparrow Pediatrics Group, a pediatric practice built upon a unique model that prioritizes relationships and personalized care, giving families the peace of mind that comes with knowing a trusted physician is always just a text or phone call away.

Jensen was raised in Arizona before moving to Chicago, where she completed her undergraduate studies and medical school, met her husband, and started their family. She welcomed her first child during her residency and returned to work when her newborn was just five weeks old, managing 80-hour workweeks while adjusting to life as a new mom. “It was kind of a blur,” Jensen laughs. “I don’t remember many details, but we got through it.”

In 2021, Jensen and her family relocated to Dripping Springs to be closer to family. They quickly found a wonderful neighborhood, church, schools, and friends, making the move a rewarding change. “It ended up being a huge win for us,” she shares.

Upon moving to Drip, Jensen initially worked in urgent care, but after a few years, she felt burned out by the healthcare system and ready for a change. With her kids involved in sports, music, and school, she also wanted a better work-life balance with the flexibility to spend more time with her children. “My long-term goal was to create a practice that would actually help me be a better mom and be there for my family when they need me,” she says.

“Over the past couple of years, I felt really called to invest in the place where I was living,” Jensen continues. “I felt like there was a need for different pediatric options for primary care because it’s such a growing community.”

With this vision in mind, Jensen created Sparrow Pediatrics, a concierge-style, direct primary care (DPC) practice that provides families with personalized care that fosters strong patient-physician relationships.

At Sparrow Pediatrics, Jensen offers a transparent healthcare model that eliminates the frustration and restrictions of traditional insurance. For a monthly membership fee per child, families receive unlimited visits—whether in person, on the phone, or via video— along with testing, treatments, and medications. Jensen also offers in-home visits, allowing families to avoid germ-filled waiting rooms and long scheduling delays. Parents can reach out to Jensen directly with questions for a quick, personalized response and enjoy the convenience of same-day appointments in her bright, intimate office.

The DPC model allows Jensen to spend quality time with her patients and their parents: “I know all my families by name; I know their kids really well,” she shares. Rather than focusing on high-volume, rushed appointments, she takes the time to understand each child’s individual health story. Jensen says, “I will sit with a family for an hour and talk about nutrition and really dig into what’s going on; in a traditional insurance practice, I wouldn’t have the privilege to do that.” She leans into holistic, integrative care, leveraging the body’s natural ability to heal rather than just treating symptoms and masking problems.

Being a mother herself also helps Jensen connect on a deeper level with her patients. “I feel that being a mom is probably the best thing I can offer my families,” she reflects. “I can empathize with my moms with newborns who are struggling with breastfeeding or gaining weight and just being exhausted—I went through all of those things.”

“My long-term goal was to create a practice that would actually help me be a better mom and be there for my family when they need me.”

This compassionate approach is invaluable to families navigating parenthood. “I think they appreciate that I can empathize with what they’re going through,” she adds. “I’m there to encourage them and offer that little pep talk when they need it.”

Grounded in trust and personal connection, each check-up with Sparrow Pediatrics feels more like checking in with a devoted friend. By focusing on relationships and providing top-notch, individualized care, Jensen has built a reliable, convenient practice where she treats every family like her own. “To have simple care from a doctor who really knows your child is very appealing to me,” she says. “This feels like something God has called me to do for my family as well as the community.”

Live Like Devyn

A Legacy of Faith, Flight, and Fearless Love

At just 30 years old, Devyn Collie Reiley had already left an extraordinary mark on the world. When she passed suddenly, her family, friends, and the communities she touched were forever changed.

A native of Wimberley, Devyn was the oldest of 13 children, an emergency medical technician, author, stage actress, and avid pilot. She inherited her love of flying from her father, Bruce Collie, a commercially rated pilot and two-time Super Bowl champion who played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Her life was tragically cut short on July 29, 2023, at the Oshkosh Air Show in Wisconsin, doing what she loved: flying a historic North American T-6 Texan, a warbird primarily used during World War II and the 1950s.

One of Devyn’s closest friends, her younger sister, Calyn, spoke with us to honor Devyn’s life and her example of bold femininity, as well as to provide practical insight on how you can best support those walking through unimaginable loss.

DEVYN’S STORY: A LIFE OF IMPACT

“Devyn was a friend to everyone who met her,” Calyn shares. “She was a peacemaker, intentional, and held her friends and family to the greatness she saw within you.”

As her dad took her flying, Devyn quickly became enthralled with aviation. When she passed, she was two weeks away from getting her commercial pilot license, formation- and tailwheel-certified, and accumulating her pilot ratings.

That morning, before her final flight, she spoke at a Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) event—an organization honoring the women who flew in World War II. Devyn deeply admired those trailblazing women and worked to inspire the next generation of female pilots.

She put in the effort and knowledge to share her passion: “Devyn wanted to inspire kids and young women to pursue aviation as much as she loved it,” Calyn says. “She included everyone and brought anyone into the aviation community, making them feel like family.”

Devyn’s impact reached far beyond the cockpit. Her faith fueled her passion for using aviation as a ministry.  “She embodied the quote, ‘Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary, use words.’ She lived her faith by just being there for people,” Calyn shares.

Devyn met her husband, Hunter Reiley, at the Oshkosh Air Show. Married for three years, they returned to the event each summer to celebrate their anniversary.

With 13 children, the Collie family is tight-knit and their bond unshakeable. Bruce ministered in prisons, and Devyn and her siblings grew up singing, reciting, and sharing their testimony at ministry banquets as they traveled together in a bus. Her absence is felt deeply. “God has a plan for everyone, every breath planned out, and He accomplished a lot through Devyn in her time here on earth.” Laughing, Calyn adds, “Typical Devyn—an overachiever.”

Over 1,000 people attended Devyn’s funeral, fittingly held in an aircraft hangar. Her family stood together, singing “It Is Well” in tearful harmony—a powerful testament to their faith, unity, and love.

One word to describe Devyn? “Giving. She gave so much in her 30 years.”

HOW TO SUPPORT THOSE GRIEVING LOSS

When someone you love encounters loss, it’s hard to know how to show up and support them. Calyn encourages you to do just that: Show up. She explains how many people stay paralyzed, not knowing what to do or say.

Showing up can look like bringing a meal or sitting with your grieving friend or family member, simply offering your presence. “My best friend didn’t leave my side. We just drove in the car without saying anything. Her presence spoke louder than words,” Calyn says. “When you don’t know what to do or say, just be there. It means the world.”

Calyn leaves us with this encouragement, inspired by her sister’s fearless life: “Live your dream, find the niche God has given you, and pursue that to the fullest extent and the best of your ability. Don’t just enjoy it, but live and use it as a part of your testimony.”

“Live like Devyn.”

In her memory, the Devyn Collie Reiley Memorial Scholarship Fund supports young leaders who share Devyn’s love of life, flying, and liberty. To learn more or contribute, visit PatriotAcademy.com/DevynReiley.

a sanctuary of hope

Heart of Texas Pregnancy Resource Center

In a cozy little house off Ranch Road 12, women facing unexpected pregnancies find something precious: hope. The Heart of Texas Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) offers compassionate support, material resources, and guidance to women during what may be one of the most challenging periods of their lives.

“Women walk in scared; they're trying to make hard decisions, and some of them don't even know where they'll get diapers or formula,” says founder and executive director Debi Wehmeier. “We give them the material resources they need to care for their babies through toddlerhood, and we help meet their emotional and spiritual needs too.”

Wehmeier's journey to establishing the center wasn't without its struggles. After hearing former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson speak in 2012, Wehmeier felt called to become actively involved in supporting women with unplanned pregnancies.

She opened the first Heart of Texas PRC in east Austin that same year—starting with no salary, no desk, and no supplies.

“We were broke. Our house was about to go on the auction block,” Wehmeier recalls. At the last minute, friends rallied to pay off her mortgage debt, allowing her to pursue her mission.

By 2017, recognizing Dripping Springs’ rapid growth and the needs of its diverse population, Wehmeier expanded to open a second location serving South Austin, Buda, Kyle, and Dripping Springs.

“We see women of all ages here, from teenagers to 40-year-olds,” Wehmeier explains. “There is a large number of women in Dripping Springs that you may not see at H-E-B or church, but they’re here and they need help when they think they might be pregnant.”

The center serves approximately 50 women monthly at the Dripping Springs location. Inside, visitors find a warm, judgment-free environment. The waiting area is child-friendly, and across the lobby, expectant mothers browse the Baby Boutique for essential items.

“The women who come here end up falling in love with us because they know this is a safe place. There's no judgment,” says Wehmeier. “When we get behind closed doors, they tell us things they've never told anybody. And they know it won't go outside these doors.”

Tracey Weissling, who has volunteered as a client advocate for three years, shares her personal connection to the center's mission:

“The reason I volunteer here is because my parents chose to give me life despite advice doctors had given them.”

The center provides comprehensive support—from pregnancy tests and free ultrasound referrals to material resources like car seats, clothing, diapers, and formula. They help women apply for Medicaid, offer parenting and life skills classes, and even throw baby showers.

“We're about so much more than saving babies," Wehmeier emphasizes. "We're helping women and families thrive."

Operating entirely on donations without state funding, the center prioritizes both practical and spiritual needs. “We don't take state funding because we want to be able to pray for everyone who walks through our doors,” Wehmeier explains. “We're leaving millions of dollars on the table, but these women need so much more than material resources.”

For those wishing to support Heart of Texas PRC, the center welcomes financial contributions as well as donations of car seats, clothing for babies and toddlers, diapers, and gift cards.

“When you give to Heart of Texas, you’re giving hope to pregnant women who may not have much. You’re also investing in generational transformation,” Wehmeier says. “You have no idea how many lives you’re touching with one gift in the grand scheme of things.”

To learn more or donate, visit HeartOfTexasPRC.org or stop by the center Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

strong. capable. confident.

1. STRENGTH OVER SHRINKING

2. SUSTAINABLE FITNESS WINS

Trendy diets and extreme workouts don’t last. The key to lifelong health is consistency—moving daily, fueling your body well, and prioritizing rest. Fitness should enhance your life, not consume it. The best plan? One that fits your lifestyle and that you can stick with long-term.

3. TRAIN FOR LIFE

Women’s bodies change—through pregnancy, menopause, and beyond. Instead of fighting it, adapt your training. Strength, mobility, and recovery should be foundations in every season of life. The goal? Feeling strong and confident now and in the future.

MONKEE’S AND D&D INSURANCE: THE POWER OF MOTHER-DAUGHTER PARTNERSHIPS

MONKEE’S: DREAMS AND DRIVE

Raised in Albania, Lilly Kulla has lived through communism, the fall of a dictatorship, and a civil war. Her family moved to the United States near the end of that war when her daughter, Elona Appleby, was just 11 years old. Arriving with only one suitcase each, Kulla says, “We didn’t have much, but we had grit and determination.”

Now, Kulla and Appleby are the mother-daughter duo behind Monkee’s of Dripping Springs, the upscale women’s boutique that has elevated the town’s style.

Kulla and Appleby are not just mother and daughter but best friends, a bond shaped by their early struggles after immigrating. “I saw how hard she worked when she came here with nothing,” Appleby says. In turn, Appleby took on many adult responsibilities at a young age to support her mom.

Kulla recognizes that Appleby was always capable beyond her years: “She’s been a boss since she was tiny,” Kulla says. “She’s always inspired me with her grit and focus. She is stubborn, dedicated, and I love it when she proves people wrong.”

At Monkee’s, Appleby may be the boss, but the two women work side by side. “Elona is the visionary, the creative, and I am the balance,” Kulla says.

While Appleby excels with numbers and planning, Kulla shines when she works with customers. “She will make anyone leave that store happy,” says Appleby. “It’s been really fun for me to see her create these relationships.”

Connection is key at Monkee’s, which offers a personalized shopping experience, helping each customer find the perfect piece to make them feel beautiful and confident. “I hope they feel like they are stepping into a big closet, being served a mimosa while they choose what they want to try on,” says Kulla. “I want them to

feel like they are a part of the store, and I want to get to know all of them.”

This ability to connect with customers is important. Since its opening, Monkee’s has become a sanctuary for women—a place to unwind and indulge in the luxury of trying on clothes in a calm, inviting atmosphere. It offers a retreat from the demands of work and family, even if just for an hour. As Appleby puts it, “At the end of the day, all women want to feel good, to feel heard, and to know they matter. That’s the feeling I want every person who walks through our doors to have—that they matter.”

In addition to offering a stunning collection of high-end products every day, Monkee’s also holds special in-store events throughout the year. Since opening last November, the boutique has brought the women of Drip together with a hat bar event, pilates workshops, fundraisers, and an unforgettable “Galentine’s” celebration.

Running this boutique together—which they had envisioned for years—is a priceless gift for both women. “What I’m doing is meaningful to me on so many levels,” Appleby says. “Just having this time with my mom and creating these experiences with her … you can’t buy it.”

Kulla shares her daughter’s sentiments: “It has been the absolute best time of my life. We have made memories to last a lifetime.”

As they’ve made these memories, Appleby has also made an impression on her mother. “I want her to be as proud of herself as I am of her,” Kulla shares. “I want her to remember that, no matter what happens in the future, she did it. She followed her dream.”

Like mother, like daughter.

D&D INSURANCE: GRIT AND GRACE

Back in 1994, when Wade and Angie Dahl moved their family to Wimberley, Angie took a leap into the insurance world at DeMasters Daniel Insurance Agency. At the time, their daughters were young children, with Jennifer Zinkgraf in seventh grade, Julie Dahl-Arcos in fifth grade, and Jantsen Dahl in preschool. Little did they know, this was the beginning of a family legacy.

Angie started out as the office manager and worked hard to learn the insurance industry. By 2008, with Wade’s encouragement and support, she had become a partowner of the agency, and in 2012, she purchased it entirely from her partners—renaming it D&D Insurance Agency.

While Angie worked her way up in the business, she and Wade were also busy raising their daughters. Soon, those little girls were all grown up, and Julie, a former math teacher, joined the agency in 2013. Jantsen jumped on board in 2020 as they opened the new Dripping Springs office.

Working side by side with her daughters has been an incredible experience for Angie. “It’s truly amazing to get to see them every day, to talk to them every day,” she says with a proud smile. Quick to praise her daughters’ growth and ability to rise to any challenge, she adds, “They’re strong, independent, confident, and capable women.”

With locations in Wimberley and Dripping Springs, D&D is an independent property and casualty insurance agency offering products to cover your home, auto, recreational units, commercial, and business insurance. Representing multiple insurance carriers, “Our job is to find the best market, product, and price for the consumer and to offer excellent customer service,” says Angie.

The Dahl women agree that the work they do—helping people get the protection they need—is meaningful. “We take our jobs seriously,” Angie says. “Insurance is not glamorous; it’s a necessity.”

To best serve their clients, the ladies at D&D prioritize creating long-lasting, loyal connections that boost

their clients’ confidence. “We build relationships with our customers, so that when we advise them, they know they can trust us,” says Jantsen.

“We operate our office with sincerity and compassion,” Angie adds.

This atmosphere of support and trust carries over to the agency’s tight-knit team of seven employees— all women. “It’s a cohesive environment,” Angie says. “There’s no drama; there’s no competition. Everybody has everyone’s back.”

Jantsen agrees: “Women bring unique strengths to the business world, such as resilience, empathy, and a strong sense of teamwork.”

Reflecting on their mother’s journey—through business and in life—Julie and Jantsen are in awe of Angie’s resilience and determination. “When she came into the industry, she’d never done it before. Seeing the hurdles she’s overcome speaks volumes about her work ethic, compassion, and loyalty,” Julie shares.

“Seeing her growth through hard times in the industry—the balance as a wife, as a business owner, as a mom of three girls—and seeing her dance through that, regardless of how the song may change, is admirable,” Julie continues. “She’s set an example and kept composure, and no matter what has come at her, we change the step and keep going.”

Angie’s daughters hope that, after three decades of hard work, their mom can one day relax and enjoy the fruits of her labor while they carry on the family business. Jantsen shares, “She has built a foundation based on trust, hard work, and ethics. I will carry that forward by prioritizing those same values.”

“My goal is to continue to grow the agency and do my best to fill her shoes to keep things moving forward, earning the trust and respect that she has earned from her employees and clients,” Julie echoes.

Those are some big shoes to fill, but Julie and Jantsen have learned from the best.

Come On, Somebody

We live in a world where we are unknowingly fighting to be seen, to be validated, and to know that where we spend our time actually matters. We are taught at a young age that working hard will lead to success, which is often defined as wealth and recognition. When I was kicked off my college lacrosse team, after years of committing myself to the sport, I was told that hard work does not always mean success—and it shattered me.

REDEFINING WORTH IN A PERFORMANCEBASED WORLD

After sacrificing friendships, sleep, and free time for early practices, training sessions, and tournaments, it was all ripped away in an instant. Everything I had poured myself into for years was suddenly gone.

However, what I once saw as loss, I now understand to be God’s protection and redirection. In hindsight, I see the depression, anxiety, disordered eating, and inner chaos that college sports caused me. My entire identity had become wrapped up in performance—striving for approval and chasing self-worth through achievement.

Yes, work is absolutely honoring to God, but our identity is to be found in Him, not rooted in external validation. We were never meant to chase worth; we were created to carry light. Our identity should never rest in what can be taken from us—a title, a job, or a person. God is not looking for performance. He desires intimacy with you.

In the Bible, the Lord refers to us as His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10). And just as art does not strive—it reflects beauty, inspires others, and brings forth fruit merely by existing—God sees us as precious works of art just as we are.

One of the most powerful gifts we can give our daughters is a grounded identity in Christ—a vision of beauty rooted in truth, not performance. When we know who we are in Him, the world loses its power to define us. When we live for an audience of One, all the things the world tells us to chase—love, approval, belonging—begin to lose their grip. He already offers those things freely, and they are permanent, unconditional, and eternal.

We are not here to perform for the world or win its approval; we are here to reflect the heart of God. When our daughters understand that, they become immovable—unshaken by trends or opinions and full of purpose that cannot be stripped away.

“Come On, Somebody” Podcast

After a handful of hair appointments and meaningful conversations in Madison Perata’s chair at Blushing Belle Salon, Daniels and Perata discovered a shared love for Jesus. They held a deep desire to teach others about the miracle-working power of the Holy Spirit and how their faith had radically transformed their lives. Together, they launched the “Come On, Somebody” podcast to shine a light on the goodness of God. Their hope is that, regardless of a listener’s past or present, they will come to understand that Jesus loves them and longs to have a relationship with them. God is always fighting on their behalf, and no one is too broken or too far gone for His love to reach.

Dripping Springs Woman of the Year: Gay Lynn Wilson

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY CARRIN LEWIS

With so much hustle in The Drip nowadays, it’s hard to imagine what this little, big town felt like back in 1968 when our Woman of the Year, Gay Lynn Wilson, grew up here. “There was no fire department, and my dad was one of the volunteers to drive the EMS truck,” she recalls. “The city would blow a loud horn, and all the men would come out of their homes to go wherever they were needed to put out fires or get people to the hospital.”

As Gay Lynn told the stories of our “onceupon-a-time” Dripping Springs, it was hard not to be enthralled and maybe a little envious of her experiences in this sleepy town of yesteryear. Sleepy or not, though, her town was also full of “doers” and “go-getters,” and she and her husband were part of that tribe, prioritizing family, education, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy.

Gay Lynn grew up on Old Fitzhugh Road right off Mercer Street in downtown Dripping Springs.

“I would practice basketball up and down Old Fitzhugh,” she says. “Cars would come by and you would wave, always knowing who it was.” With both of her parents serving in the school system as teachers, her family was well loved within the community. Her dad (and namesake), Galen Dodson, served as a teacher for 18 years and then principal at the high school for another five years, while her mother, Jerry Lou Dodson, taught first grade for 27 years. Her dad was also the mayor of Dripping Springs!

Gay Lynn’s mother cultivated a love for volunteer work in her daughter’s heart. As one of the founders of Dripping Springs Helping Hands, Jerry Lou tirelessly gave to those in need throughout her life. With this rich bloodline of community stewardship, Gay Lynn was born to serve and continues to hold this deep passion, serving on multiple boards over the years and volunteering with nonprofits in the area.

Even though Gay Lynn met her husband, Trey Wilson, in the third grade, they wouldn’t date until much later, while he was studying music at University of Texas and she was in her last year at Texas A&M. Trey’s family brought entrepreneurship to the family’s forefront back in 1949 when his dad, J.W. Wilson, opened his own appliance store.

Following World War II, J.W. met and married Trey’s mom, Lurline. After mastering electronic repairs in a college course, he opened up J.W. Wilson TV and Appliance, originally located on Mercer Street. Growing up, Trey educated himself about the appliance and repair business alongside his father, and after graduating from the University of Texas, he married his longtime friend and sweetheart, Gay Lynn.

As they began their life together, Trey worked as the assistant band director at Dripping Springs High School, and Gay Lynn was a teacher at Dripping Springs Middle School. It wasn’t long before they decided to go all-in on his dad’s lifelong business and purchase a portion of J.W. Appliance.

After J.W.'s passing, Trey and Gay Lynn purchased the remainder of the business, and today they are proud owners of Wilson Appliance, one of the last family-owned major appliance retailers in Central Texas. Gay Lynn worked faithfully side by side with her husband and, with only five employees in the beginning, she did everything from cleaning toilets to unpacking shipments and balancing the books. She grew to know the business inside and out.

In 1985, Gay Lynn and Trey started their own family, welcoming their son, Gavin, and seven years later, a daughter named Emily. Both were students at DSISD, and while Emily is raising her two children in Houston, Gavin is located here in Dripping Springs and owns a computer solutions company, Wilson PC Solutions. As her kids were growing up, Gay Lynn wore many hats as a mother, business owner, and board member to prominent local establishments like The Pound House, Dripping Springs Community Library, and Dripping Springs Methodist Church/Pathways (just to name a few).

When asked how Dripping Springs has changed, Gay Lynn smiles and says, “My hope for Dripping Springs is that it keeps its small-town community feel. That neighbors feel like neighbors. It’s the gift of our town … that people help each other.” We shared the quintessential laugh about Drip traffic, but she was quick to add that the boost in business is definitely a perk of the city’s growth. Additionally, the new residents, whom she now calls friends, have truly enriched her life and she is so glad they are here.

Life today for Gay Lynn and Trey looks a bit different. Although they are still very much a part of the day-to-day operations at Wilson Appliance, the business has grown to over 50 employees. This expansion has given them more time to spend with their family and friends and pursue their hobbies and volunteer endeavors. As we sat chatting away about Dripping Springs, Trey was in the adjacent room making music, as that is one of his biggest passions. Specifically, he loves piano and percussion, and he fills his free time composing music, playing for the church choir, and sitting in with the Nash Hernandez Orchestra some evenings.

Gay Lynn is enjoying Galen, her 95-year-old father, whose upbeat, social lifestyle has been a blessing to his daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Aside from loving on her grandbabies when they come to visit, one of Gay Lynn’s primary interests is tending to her amazing garden. This expansive vegetable and fruit garden is 10 years in the making. Rows of carrots and other vegetables, along with lines of countless fruit trees, make for a picturesque Texas Hill Country scene. Along with a gang of chickens and a few cats, this domestic habitat keeps her hands full at her multiple-acre ranch perched on a hill.

As I drove up the windy road to meet Gay Lynn, the peace of her property immediately lulled me into a slower pace. With her sweet greeting, warm smile, and welcoming committee of cats, I felt right at home. I saw immediately what her Woman of the Year nominator meant when she said that Gay Lynn just wants to care for the people and things she loves. Whether it’s offering vegetables and eggs from her land to her family and friends, or being an ear to someone in her church congregation, she is a friend to all. Even her chickens follow her around like she is their mama hen.

But the biggest and most rewarding venture for Gay Lynn is giving back. She finds great joy and promise in volunteering where people need it the most.

Whether through Helping Hands of Dripping Springs, the nonprofit her mother helped start, or donating appliances from her store to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Hometown Mission, and Home in a Month, the Wilson family proves again and again that they will be there for their community. Even the local furry friends of Dripping get love through Gay Lynn’s endeavors with Paws of Central Texas. “We really like to help the local nonprofits that are 100% volunteer and may not get as much help from tax or government funds; it’s important to us.”

With deep roots in our beloved town of Dripping Springs and a passion for family, community, and local entrepreneurship, we are inspired and proud to announce our Woman of the Year, Gay Lynn Wilson!

DRIPPING SPRINGS RACQUET CLUB

PHOTOGRAPHY BY CLAIRE MULKEY WHERE COMMUNITY AND COMPETITION THRIVE

Dripping Springs Racquet Club (DSRC) is more than just a sports facility—it’s a vibrant, close-knit community where families, athletes, and weekend warriors come together to play, connect, and compete. Formerly known as the Polo Tennis and Fitness Club, DSRC rebranded to better reflect its mission and deeprooted connection to the Dripping Springs community.

The club is proud of its programs for women, offering ladies’ tennis and pickleball leagues, open play, and roundrobin padel tournaments monthly, along with ladies’ nights organized by players for players. It also offers workshops for dance fitness, nutrition, and a weekly mahjong group.

DSRC is the only club in the area offering all three major racquet sports—tennis, pickleball, and padel—each with dedicated, professional-grade courts. The 10 lighted tennis courts are reserved exclusively for members; guests are welcome to book pickleball and padel courts, making the club accessible to everyone.

Padel is an exciting, fast-paced game that combines elements of tennis and squash. Played on turf-covered sand courts, it features scoring similar to tennis and is quickly becoming a club favorite, particularly among former tennis players looking for a new challenge.

The facility boasts a two-story gym with cardio equipment overlooking the courts, a pavilion area, and a lounge and meeting space. A balcony with stunning views of nearby fields and horse stables adds to the club’s scenic charm. Families can enjoy the three-tiered pool and playscapes for kids.

DSRC isn’t just about competition—it’s about connection. The club hosts a monthly member mixer, where players of all skill levels can meet, play, and socialize. Leagues for men, women, and mixed doubles offer structured, competitive play, while ladder tournaments give members constant opportunities to improve their game.

Beyond sports, DSRC fosters a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere with something for everyone. Members frequently host birthday parties and private events. The club also kicks off summer with a barbecue and pool party, bringing members and guests together for a day of fun.

DSRC prides itself on being a space for all ages. The junior program is one of the largest in the area, offering lessons, leagues, and camps where kids ages 5 to 12 can play all three racquet sports, swim, and participate in team games. Parents are encouraged to join in during family-friendly mixers, creating lasting memories on and off the courts.

“The response to our rebrand has been amazing,” says Steph New, the club’s general manager. “Longtime residents who didn’t even know we were here are reaching out, and new families are excited to have a place like this in Dripping Springs. This town is about community, and that’s what we’re building here.”

Whether you’re a seasoned competitor, a beginner, or just looking for a fun and active way to spend time with friends and family, DSRC is the place to be.

THE PEACHY KEEN Photo Camper

When was the last time you were in a photo booth? I hope you have had a chance recently to experience the joy of being goofy with your friends and family, wearing a crazy hat and practicing your poses. Truly the best part about my photo booth company is getting to take fun, silly photos with my own family.

Owning The Peachy Keen Photo Camper has been one of the most exciting and challenging experiences of my life. I am so grateful for my family—from my husband Mark, who usually pulls the trailer and works with me, to my mom, kids, sister, mother-in-law, cousin, and friends—without which none of this would be possible. I am blessed to have so much support in my business.

“When I have a struggle or a milestone, I know there are many women here who have my back.”

When I purchased the Peachy Keen Photo Camper in 2022, I had been out of the events industry for many years. I was so happy to find a business that allowed me to be creative while using the skills I learned when completing my meeting and event planning degree. It took a couple of years, but it was such an accomplishment when I could leave my job and pursue my business full time.

Being in the Wedding Capital of Texas means we are in close proximity to amazing venues and event industry professionals. Additionally, with its supportive community of women entrepreneurs who always encourage me to keep pushing forward, Dripping Springs is an ideal location for my business. Women in this area truly care about each other as people. When I have a struggle or a milestone, I know there are many women here who have my back.

I have been able to grow the business by adding a selfie station option to our offerings, which allows us to be involved in many more celebrations. Now, when the camper won’t fit, we have an alternative. You may have seen us at the high school during theater productions or other school banquets. We want to be top of mind when it comes to photo booths.

It is a pleasure to help people make their visions come to life. Being a part of such special celebrations is an honor—we have helped celebrate milestones ranging from first birthdays to 80th! I love how people loosen up when they step inside the photo booth. When I see people laughing and having a good time with their grandparents, I always think about how they will treasure those moments in the future.

Stress-Free Living

Essential Strategies for Midlife Women to Manage Stress and Boost Health

As a woman in midlife, I understand firsthand how challenging it is to navigate the multifaceted responsibilities this transitional stage of life brings. As women, we wear many hats—mom, wife, business owner, friend, caregiver—often leading to heightened stress levels.

Chronic stress is linked to many physical and mental health issues, including cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, and hormonal imbalances. However, implementing small daily habits like meditation, physical activity, breathwork, and therapies like red light therapy can significantly mitigate these risks and promote overall well-being.

THE DANGERS OF UNMANAGED STRESS

Cardiovascular Health: Elevated stress levels can raise blood pressure and heart rate, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke (Mayo Clinic).

Cognitive Decline: Stressful life experiences in midlife have been linked to greater memory decline later in life (Johns Hopkins Medicine).

Hormonal Imbalances: Stress worsens menopausal symptoms, contributing to irregular periods and more severe PMS (Women’s Midlife Health Journal).

Sleep Disturbances: Chronic stress is associated with poor sleep quality and insomnia (PubMed Central).

STRESS-REDUCTION TECHNIQUES

Meditation: Regular meditation has been shown to lower stress, improve sleep, and enhance focus (Mayo Clinic).

Physical Activity: Engaging in regular exercise improves mood, energy, sleep quality, and cardiovascular health; yoga is particularly effective for stress relief (Verywell Health).

Breath Work: Techniques such as deep breathing can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety (PubMed Central).

Red Light Therapy: Research suggests that red light therapy may help reduce inflammation and support cellular health, complementing mindfulness practices for stress relief (Mindowl.org).

CONCLUSION

For midlife women juggling multiple roles, integrating simple daily habits like meditation, movement, and breath work, along with exploring treatments such as red light therapy, can significantly reduce stress and its harmful effects. Prioritizing stress management is an investment in long-term health, ensuring the many hats we wear don’t come at the expense of our well-being. As a physician, I know that in 2025, managing stress should be an integral part of your daily routine.
