Get Lost

Our Explore issue is dedicated to the spirit of exploration here in Dripping Springs and beyond. We are blessed to be surrounded by the natural beauty of the Hill Country and a community that values adventure and discovery. With so many experiences available close to home, there are endless opportunities to explore and appreciate our surroundings. It’s our hope that these curated pages inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and embark on new journeys, whether near or far.

Living in a time that values efficiency and productivity above all else, there's a mentality that if you're not working constantly, you're not doing enough. I must admit, I often fall into this trap, filling every free moment with tasks from my neverending to-do list. The word “explore” is often lost on me, as I simply “don’t have time,” so I’m aiming to heed my own advice I offer here.

I often reflect on the book The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer (ironically, I did not have enough time to finish the paperback, so I purchased the audiobook). The message of the best seller is simple enough: Slow down. This is not always possible, but adding margin in your life and on your calendar to incorporate things such as exploration will add invaluable joy.

In this issue, you’ll find a diverse array of contributors who capture the essence of exploration. With topics ranging from travel destinations to ease the Texas heat, to adventures in RVs or golf carts, to stories of personal growth journeys, we aim to ignite your sense of wonder.

I encourage you to prioritize time away from your regular schedule of life. Get lost. Lose yourself on a trail or in a book. Lose the confines of your day-to-day routine. Lose the norm for a bit. Book that trip you’ve been thinking about. Make time for the things that matter most to you but often come last on the calendar. Once you’ve been lost, perhaps you’ll be found with a new sense of gratitude for the beauty around us that we often take for granted.

Happy exploring.

EDUCATED ROOFING SYSTEMS RISES TO THE CHALLENGE

Exploring

New Horizons

Cameron Cox and Jeff Whitacre

Cameron Cox began his career in software sales after graduating from Texas State University. Despite his success, he began seeking a change. After a chance encounter with a roofer at his church, Cox took “a week's vacation” to explore the roofing industry. This experience ignited a new passion, leading Cox to leave his software job and dive into the roofing business in the DallasFort Worth area.

In 2008 the roofing company relocated Cox back to Austin to help expand its presence. Unfortunately, the market crash hit hard. Desperate but determined, Cox reached out to his father, who had owned a lighting business in Austin before retiring. Together they founded Educated Roofing Systems (ERS) in 2009. Starting from scratch, they fabricated trim pieces by hand and manufactured roof panels on-site, working tirelessly to build their business.

While attending church in Bee Cave, Cox met Jeff Whitacre and the pair formed a strong bond through their shared faith. Whitacre, stuck in a miserable insurance job, received a casual offer from Cox to join ERS if he ever wanted a change. Two years later, when Cox’s father was diagnosed with cancer and had to step back from the business, Whitacre saw the opportunity to help his friend and fill the void. He left his job and hit the ground running, reaching out to custom home builders and leveraging his contacts in the construction industry. Whitacre’s leap of faith paid off, and he hasn’t looked back since.

Today, ERS has grown to a team of six sales managers continuously expanding their industry knowledge to better educate builders and homeowners on roofing options. But their story is not just about business success; it’s about community and resilience.

ERS is deeply embedded in the Dripping Springs community, consistently supporting the Dripping Springs Youth Sports Association, the Dripping Springs Education Foundation, and various other local initiatives.

The journey of ERS is a testament to the power of family, friendships, resilience, faith, and community. From the challenges of a market crash to the personal trials of illness, Cox and Whitacre have built a business that stands strong, not just through its services, but through its unwavering commitment to the people and community it serves.  EducatedRoofingSystems.com

BUILDING ST RONGROOTS

THE VISION AND VALUES OF STRONG

ARTICLE BY CHRISTINA THOMPSON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY KRISTEN HAFNER
ROOTS DEVELOPMENT
“We’re building strong relationships with our clients that will last long beyond the build process."

In the bustling world of construction, where builders often prioritize timelines and budgets over the most critical facets of long-term success, Strong Roots Development (SRD) embodies a vision deeply rooted in faith, family, community, and sustainability. With a reputation established on the enduring relationships that grow from genuine commitment to the essentials, SRD’s strong roots set it apart.  Add trust, transparency, and timeless craftsmanship, and you have the makings of a true outlier from the typical custom home building experience.

Founded in 2017 by Jonathan Clow and Eddie Thomas, SRD is a full-service general contractor that aims to inspire and cultivate beauty, resiliency, and independence in local communities by constructing customized spaces that foster self-sufficiency and abundant living.

Clow’s journey into construction began long before SRD took shape. Growing up in a household where architecture and construction were part of everyday life, Clow

gained invaluable insights into the industry. His early experiences, from restoring a Victorian home in Colorado to managing projects during the highs and lows of the housing market, laid a practical foundation for what would become SRD.

In 2018 Clow and Thomas were joined by Scott Wilson, who had transitioned from 24 years of corporate travel life to buying and restoring homes in Austin.  As he puts it, “The goal was to be more present in the lives of the very ones I was providing for.” Wilson offers a background in finance, software, and business process consulting, which enhanced the crucial dimension of back-office efficiencies and rounded out SRD’s ability to bring exacting financial service to its clientele.  Wilson also has a special appreciation for the Hill Country, having moved here from Los Angeles in 2015. “We always longed to raise our family where the values we sought to instill in our children were commonly shared and where there were still wide-open spaces to enjoy.”

Scott Wilson and Jonathan Clow
The Wilson Family
The Clow Family

Strong Roots Development builds personalized, purposeful spaces that will last and where families can create lifelong memories.

With an eye on these wide-open spaces, SRD is committed to sustainability and energy efficiency, integrating cutting-edge technology with timeless design principles to create homes that are not only beautiful, but also durable and environmentally conscious. From rainwater harvesting systems to energy-independent solutions, SRD prioritizes building homes that stand the test of time and meet the future needs of their owners.

“Within our logo are the words: Build. Grow. Live,” says Clow. “Amidst this beautiful Hill Country backdrop, many people are looking to expand their living experience to the land around their home, adding gardens to grow their own food, outdoor living enhancements, or water features.  We enjoy the challenge of facilitating whole property plans and connecting functional spaces with care.”

To create such spaces, Clow and Wilson actively engage with clients, listening closely to bring their vision to reality. SRD prides itself on providing luxury-level experience while meticulously managing the established budget. Through this hands-on collaboration, the company builds trust and forges lifelong connections with clients who often return to SRD when additional projects arise.

This individual attention is also evident in Clow’s and Wilson’s personal lives, in which they share a profound love for family and a passion for bringing

people together. Clow and his wife, Sarah, have eight children, while Wilson and his wife, Missy, have four. Both families homeschool, cherishing the bonds that tie them together. This family focus translates to the business, as SRD seeks to build personalized, purposeful spaces that will last and where families can create lifelong memories.

Beyond construction, SRD is deeply embedded in its community, with Clow and Wilson serving in children’s ministry at their churches. They also engage with the Burke Center for Youth through their financial support and personal involvement in the mentoring program for boys in foster care.

As SRD continues to grow, its commitment to excellence, sustainability, and community remains unwavering.  Insights into sound building principles and techniques, methods of water and energy independence, and significant experience in our local Hill Country all contribute to building a legacy property, both beautiful and durable, no matter what storms may follow.

“Your values drive what you build,” says Wilson.  With each project, SRD not only builds homes but cultivates a sense of belonging, rooted in trust, transparency, and enduring craftsmanship. SRD stands as a testament to the power of building upon strong roots.

Why Routine Home Health Checks Matter

ABIGAIL THOMSEN

Why do we take our vehicles for routine maintenance, and our loved ones for wellness checkups, yet our homes— often our greatest financial investment—remain neglected until something breaks?  Mend Services, owned by husband-wife duo Steve and Whitnie Strauss, is a one-stop shop for your home's three major systems–HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. “All these systems are interrelated,” Steve explains. “We love offering our state-of-the-art technology to keep tabs on all the systems in your house.”

Let’s explore how we can invest in the critical home systems your family needs to live safely and comfortably. What are the benefits of regular home health service and the consequences of neglecting this key aspect of home ownership?

THREE MAINTENANCE ITEMS FOR A HEALTHY HOME

1. Flush your water heater. This maintenance item should be completed annually to prevent sediment buildup, improving your water heater performance and water quality.

2. Set a reminder to change your air filters monthly. Invest in a higher-quality air filter to improve the quality of the air you breathe as well as the performance of your AC.

3. Clean your outside condenser with a spring AC tune-up and a fall furnace check. Pollen and dust can significantly reduce the performance of these two separate systems.

We often don’t think about how the environment we live in impacts how we feel and function, but focusing on air and water quality through maintenance can improve your family’s health. “Sometimes when our home health suffers, our body’s health can suffer, leading to issues such as allergies and asthma,” Whitnie says.

THREE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF NEGLECTING HOME MAINTENANCE

1. Increased energy bills. When AC units age and are not properly maintained, they use more energy, which raises your energy bills, especially in the heat of Texas summer.

2. Catastrophic flooding. Neglecting water heaters and other plumbing can result in flooded homes, but the Mend team is trained to look for warning signs and fix problems before they occur.

3. Cost of emergency response. When something breaks, emergency replacements and repairs are far more expensive—and much less convenient—than properly maintaining your systems.

WHAT SETS MEND SERVICE APART

The Mend team puts its customers first with clear communication and preparation. “You get a text when we’re on our way, taking the guesswork out,” says Steve. “We’re prepared with the part needed for your service before we arrive and are being proactive to check for malfunctions, maximizing every visit.”

The team will discuss repair, replacement, and upgrade options so you can make an informed decision. “We’re determined to build long-term relationships through trust,” Steve states. “‘Be humble, be committed, and do the right thing’ is what we tell our employees.”

“Be humble, be committed, and do the right thing.”

“Our ‘why’ is caring for everyone around us—our family, community, and employees,” Steve continues. “We love bumping into our customers at the Dripping H-E-B. We live here, work here, and care about treating you as family.”

WHAT MEND OFFERS

Mend is proud to offer monthly Whole Home Wellness Plans so you can rest assured your home is cared for. Learn more about the three plan offerings at MendServices.com and on social media at @mendservices

A CINEMATIC ODYSSEY

The Quintana Family's Unconventional Journey Across Continents and Cultures

I was on my way to a stable career in law when Julio convinced me to pursue filmmaking. We got married right out of college, and after several years trying to break into the industry, we finally scraped together enough financing to make our first film, “The Vessel,” in 2013. The film is about a small coastal village whose only school is destroyed by a tidal wave while all

Quintana takes us on a journey around the world with a behind-the-scenes look at the real adventures of creating feature films.

the children are inside. Julio scouted the entire island of Puerto Rico and settled on a shanty town outside Old San Juan called La Perla.

Before La Perla became famous in the popular music video “Despacito,” tourists were strongly deterred from visiting the town. Two years before we arrived, a massive raid sent many drug traffickers to jail, but still even the locals dared not go in. The first time Julio went to take photos, a resident warned him to leave immediately.

Thankfully, we made contact with the community leaders in La Perla and received their blessing. I knocked on every door of the community and introduced ourselves. It was a total family affair.

Julio was the writer, director, set painter, and construction labor. His brother Alex was the engineer of “the vessel” that could sink and float on command,

behind-the-scenes videographer, water effects supervisor, and stunt double for their other brother Lucas, who acted in the lead role. I was the producer, location scout, extras casting coordinator, and general community problem solver.

One week, our art department built an elementary school playground and the local children played on it for hours. In the story, the playground was destroyed by a wave, so our art department spent the evening taking hammers to it. The next day, the entire community was up in arms over the destruction. “We’ll find the people who did this to you!” they exclaimed. Someone offered to break some legs.

We quickly assured them, “It was us!” and everyone had a good laugh. We’ll never forget the experience of making our first film, when we would run around an infamous slum in the middle of the night just to get a movie made.

Quintana Family

By the time we made our second film, “Blue Miracle,” six years later, we had three kids, including a three-month-old daughter. This time we were in the Dominican Republic, where they have a giant infinity tank next to the ocean for filming boat scenes without the mal de mer. The tank is in Juan Dolio, a quiet beach town where Santo Domingo locals escape on the weekends. We were on island time again.

We took a family posse with us to help with the kids while we worked 14 to 18-hour days. Our transportation department took on the critical role of delivering the milk I pumped on set to my baby back at the apartment. It was the hardest thing we have ever done, and we agonized about the little time we spent with our children. When we moved to Casa de Campo in La Romana to film our scenes at the marina, Julio’s parents took the kids to Punta Cana, one of the most pristine beaches in the world. In the two months we lived there, Julio and I never went to the beach once. The kids will have to show us around when we go back for vacation.

For our latest film, “The Long Game,” we returned to my home country of Colombia in the summer of 2022. It seemed to rain every day at 4 p.m. in Bogotá. This caused problems trying to stay on schedule but also made everything very, very green. This was perfect for the golf course scenes, but not so much for the scenes supposedly set in the desert brush country of Del Rio, Texas. During post-production, Julio spent a lot of time dialing Colombia to yellow.

Top: On Set of “The Long Game”
Bottom: Actor Dennis Quaid with Directors Marla and Julio Quintana

The nature of this industry is that we never know which project in development will get the green light first. What we do know is that Dripping Springs will always remain the comforting embrace of home.

We also had to paint out a few mountains, although every Colombian who has seen the film can still recognize their landscape. Unfortunately, residents from San Felipe and Del Rio, where the story is based, could also tell we didn’t film there. They quickly understood our explanation that Del Rio is too modernized now, so for the Texas neighborhood scenes we chose Smithville, Texas, which has mostly

preserved its 1950s aesthetic. They weren’t quite so forgiving about our changing their school colors from purple and gold.

We’re not sure where the next project will take us. The nature of this industry is that we never know which project in development will get the green light first. What we do know is that Dripping Springs will always remain the comforting embrace of home.

Roam if You Want To

ARTICLE BY MELISSA SVOBODA PHOTOGRAPHY BY KRISTEN HAFNER

Imagine a vacation without overstuffed carry-on luggage, long TSA lines, cramped seats, and layovers. It’s not a private jet–it’s a recreational vehicle (RV), and every year millions of Americans travel this way. Convenient, comfortable, cost-effective, and therapeutic, RV travel is more popular now than ever.

Bound by a shared love of travel, lifelong friends Lance Stewart and Scott Dean started RV Land in 2012. Just down Interstate 35 South, RV Land can help you explore hundreds of RV options, from fifth-wheels to Winnebagos. Offering new, pre-owned, and rental RVs—as well as RV storage and servicing—RV Land is sure to have just the right vehicle to fit your needs.

When you hit the road to experience the world in an RV, there’s no such thing as a “flyover state.” Remarks Dean, “We believe that the RV lifestyle is one of the greatest ways to explore all that Mother Nature has to offer.” With an RV, you can make your own adventure—any time, any place. If there’s a road, you can get there.

Getting there is usually expensive, but RV travel helps keep costs down, as it eliminates the major expenses of airfare and hotels. If you're watching your budget, one of RV Land's pre-ownned or rental RVs might be the right choice. Additionally, many campgrounds are very affordable or even free. And when it’s time to eat, traveling with your own kitchen helps you avoid pricey restaurants and fast-food joints.

Dripping Springs resident Rachel Breen, who has been camping and traveling in RVs since childhood, now takes her own family RVing. “RVing is a more affordable way to travel for longer periods of time without breaking the bank,” she shares. Whether it’s a quick trip or a long getaway, an RV holiday costs a fraction of a more traditional vacation.

CONTINUED >

“You really get to spend quality time with your kids … RVing is such a fun experience for a family.”

—Rachel Breen

In addition to lower costs, the convenience factor also drives people to choose RVs for travel. Setting out is simple: just gas up, grab some supplies, and go. You are in control; you can keep a fluid schedule and you’re never stuck in one place. Even your family pets can come along for the ride. In an RV, you can stay anywhere from a campground to a luxury RV park or even a buddy’s driveway. And when you get there, there is no need to unpack and repack; everything you need is right inside your home away from home.

As far as everything you need, RV travel allows you to bring plenty of adventure gear with you, from mountain bikes to ATVs and kayaks to jet skis. For outdoor enthusiasts with loads of toys, RV Land features a variety of toy hauler RVs, which are specially designed with a large rear garage space

and a loading ramp. With a good deal of storage in an RV, you can also carry many of the comforts of home for a refreshing journey. If you’re seeking a luxurious experience, consider RV Land’s motorhomes, which are truly homes on wheels with spacious kitchens, bedrooms, and even closets.

As you motor across the open highway, leave the electronics at home and give yourself a mental break. Dripping Springs resident and new RV traveler Angie Parkhouse says, “During our trips, we are 100 percent unplugged and immersed in nature and each other.” Taking a technology timeout is especially important for kids, who are often too preoccupied to look out the window and see the landscape roll by in real life. The RV life can be like roaming therapy, with fewer distractions and a change of scenery that helps our minds unwind and our bodies reset.

The destination of your dreams is endless when your home is in tow.

Whether it's the mountains or the beachside, the possibilities are limitless.

Most importantly, outdoor adventures mean time together. Families build lasting memories fishing, hiking or just sitting around the campfire. Couples find opportunities to reconnect. “My husband and I really enjoy our solo time in nature,” Parkhouse shares. “Being in a remote RV site with the stars shining so bright is one of the most spiritual experiences.” Children grow up fast and time flies; spending these moments together can help slow it down.

Liberating and economical, RVing is an ideal way to get lost in nature, revitalize your spirit, and fortify family ties. Breen sums it up: “All worries and stressors seem to disappear when you are surrounded by natural beauty.”

Another healing property of RV travel is that it often involves engaging in the great outdoors. Breen shares one memorable encounter with nature: “One morning, I stepped out of my RV to find an elk just standing at my camping site,” she says. “You don’t get to experience that when drinking coffee in your hotel room.”

When you’re ready to set out on your next adventure, make RV Land your first stop. With a full line of new and pre-owned RVs, RV rentals, and even home delivery services, RV Land has everything you need to get rolling.

“At RV Land, we truly enjoy helping people explore the great outdoors,” says Stewart.

FINDING YOUR PATH TO A SUSTAINABLE EXERCISE ROUTINE

EXPLORING FITNESS

Beginning an exercise routine can feel intimidating, especially if you're unsure about where to begin. But the good news is that you don’t need to

commitment, like dedicating 30 minutes to exercise three times per week. Block out a specific time in your schedule and treat it as a non-negotiable

EXPLORING FITNESS WITHOUT PRESSURE ALLOWS YOU

have everything figured out to get started. The journey to fitness is all about exploration and discovering what works best for you.

Many people think there's only one right way to approach fitness and box themselves into overly rigid fitness routines. This can lead you to choose workouts you don’t like, which can cause frustration, burnout, and guilt. Why fall into that trap? Give yourself permission to explore different fitness avenues—when you find something you genuinely love, exercise won’t be a chore but something you look forward to. This will make it easier to stay consistent in the long run.

From my own experience, when fitness feels overwhelming, lowering the benchmark for success can be a game changer. To do so, first make a small

appointment. In the beginning, your main focus should simply be to show up for yourself, without any expectations about the intensity or type of workout.

As you consistently set aside this time, you'll start to get a better feel for what you enjoy and what you're likely to stick with. Once you have a clear idea of your preferences, you can begin setting goals to push yourself further.

Exploring fitness without pressure allows you to find what you enjoy, and doing what you like makes it easier to build and maintain a consistent exercise habit. Start with an open mind and give yourself the space to experiment. You'll find that the journey to fitness becomes a more satisfying and sustainable part of your life.

Optimize Your Adventures

The Essential Role of Chiropractic Care in Exploration and Recovery

Exploration is an intrinsic part of a healthy human experience. When we venture into the unknown, we learn about the world and ourselves.  This spirit of discovery has been a cornerstone of human progress and ideally leads to a richer experience in this life. However, the physical and mental demands of the journey can take a toll on the human body. This is where chiropractic care can play a crucial role in optimizing our structure and function to move well. When we feel good, we inherently want to move and seek adventure. Let’s go!

Why utilize chiropractic to prepare for and recover from our adventures?

1. Improve mobility and flexibility: Chiropractic enhances joint mobility and flexibility as well as optimizes the nervous system and relieves tension in the body.

2. Relieve pain and prevent injury: Chiropractic effectively manages pain and prevents injuries by dialing biomechanics to their most natural state. This reduces the risk of musculoskeletal issues that might otherwise impede your ability to get out and explore.

3. Boost recovery and resilience: Chiropractic aids in faster recovery from injuries and physical exertion. Techniques like soft tissue therapy and rehabilitative exercises promote healing and strengthen the body to make it more resilient to future stresses.

Getting out and seeing the world can be physically challenging, and building mental fortitude helps us address challenges as they come. Chiropractic also:

1. Alleviates mental and physiological stress: Moving the body into a parasympathetic (rest and digest) state allows for rest and recovery and therefore a more relaxed and focused state of mind.

2. Enhances sleep quality: Reducing pain and balancing the nervous system improves sleep, alertness, and cognitive function.

3. Promotes overall health: A well-functioning musculoskeletal system contributes to overall vitality. Professional athletes, astronauts, mountaineers, the military, and many others who depend on their fitness utilize chiropractic to stay tuned and healthy. Why not apply those same techniques to keep your body ready for your adventures?!

Looking back on the many small choices leading to this moment, we realize that oftentimes it’s simply the decision to explore... to take that first step that is the hardest, but the most crucial. Most of us want to get to a place we have yet to be. With the dawn of Summer, mixed with a bit of boldness, we just may forge new territory and find ourselves wondering why we didn’t do it sooner.

If a new home is in your story, we are honored to come alongside in your next adventure.

David Blackman and Greg Clark’s journey began in college, where their friendship grew into a lifelong bond. Both met their future wives, Tisha and Hilary, during this time and became groomsmen in each other’s weddings just a month apart. With this strong foundation, they began building their families—each with three children—and their careers, with Blackman at ADP and Clark at Champs Sports. Eventually, their paths converged to create AmCheck HCM Solutions in 2005, a business dedicated to simplifying human capital management.

AmCheck HCM Solutions officially opened its doors in Austin in 2006 and moved operations to Dripping Springs in 2015. Its services encompass everything from new hire onboarding and payroll management to tax compliance and employee benefit management. This comprehensive approach allows clients to focus on their core business activities with confidence.

While AmCheck thrives in the professional realm, its heart lies in community service. Blackman and Clark have always been committed to deepening their roots in Dripping Springs. Initially, their charitable contributions were spontaneous, supporting various local causes. However, as the community grew, so did their desire to make a significant impact.

In 2012 they took a decisive step toward structured philanthropy. Sharing a love for golf, Blackman and Clark launched Drives 4 Drippin’, an annual golf tournament that supports Tiger Totes, a local nonprofit providing essential food to school children. This initiative grew rapidly, merging in 2014 with the Hill

Country Rally for Kids (HCR), a notable local charity organization.

The success of Drives 4 Drippin’ and its involvement with HCR has been profound. HCR now includes a gala, BBQ cookoff, car and bike show, and a sporting clays shoot called Pull for Drippin’. In 2023 alone, HCR raised over $200,000, benefiting numerous local causes such as the Burke Center for Youth, Hungry Souls, and RED Arena, among others. Clark serves on the HCR Board of Directors, while Blackman chairs several committees.

When deciding which causes to support, Blackman and Clark prioritize local impact. They make sure their contributions serve organizations whose funds stay within Dripping Springs, directly benefiting the community. This focus on local charity has helped address critical needs like food, shelter, and caregiver support, enriching lives now and for the future.

Blackman and Clark emphasize that getting involved in charitable activities is straightforward. They encourage others to volunteer time, make donations, or both, highlighting that even small efforts can make a big difference. For those interested in starting their own initiatives, their advice is clear: Research thoroughly, follow your passion, and commit fully. The rewards far outweigh the challenges.

AmCheck HCM Solutions stands as an inspiration for community involvement in Dripping Springs. Through their dedication, Blackman and Clark demonstrate that business success and charitable work go hand in hand, fostering a stronger, more connected community.

THE TEXAS HEAT escape

Top Mountain Getaways for Cool Adventures and Breathtaking Views

Colorado, Garden of the Gods

With rising summer temperatures in Central Texas, the wave of scorching days is now upon us. As the oppressive heat makes outdoor activities look less appealing, many Texans choose to pack up and leave town. For adventure and cooler climates, the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Mountains offer crisp, fresh air, a dramatic shift in landscape, and an opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.

When you embark on a refreshing mountain getaway, you can trade in your AC for morning hikes, afternoons spent by the river, and outdoor dinners. Pack your layers and hiking shoes; you will need them in the higher elevations that offer the cooler temperatures and comfortable breezes you crave during these long summer days. Bring your jacket and take a gondola lift up a peak, where you can grab lunch before hiking or biking down. Take in the dramatic views, shades of green, colorful wildflowers, and crystal-clear streams.

If the mountains are calling your name, here are four exceptional locations that offer unique outdoor activities and experiences. Whether you are searching for adventure, tranquility, or full immersion in nature, there is something here for people of all ages.

Denver, Colorado: From the lively city of Denver, the possibilities are endless. Go on a spooky night tour at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, which inspired “The Shining.” Hike through meadows and fish in Rocky Mountain National Park. Walk through the red rocks at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Eat lunch in Vail. Discover the best boutiques in Aspen.

Lake Tahoe, California: Imagine yourself peacefully floating on a raft, looking up at the Sierra Mountains as the refreshing lake water tickles your toes. If you are seeking relaxation, the stunning blue water and striking scenery of Lake Tahoe is sure to impress. Partake in water activities like paddleboarding, waterskiing, and canoeing. Cap off your day by enjoying the sunset from Pier 111 Bar, taking in all those shades of blue.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming: From the western town of Jackson, you can easily explore two of our nation’s treasures: Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. After hiking among the wildflowers, find your inner cowboy and enjoy horseback riding or a night at the legendary Jackson Hole rodeo. You can also find alpine slides, ziplines, and an adventure course. At night, wind down with an outdoor summer concert downtown.

Park City, Utah: For adrenaline seekers, Park City offers some exhilarating water adventures, including whitewater rafting, kayaking, and tubing. Visit the Utah Olympic Park, where you can try bobsledding down the 2022 Olympic track. Hot air balloon rides are another popular option, providing breathtaking mountain vistas. For a more laid-back afternoon, find a spot along the Provo River and fly fish for brown and rainbow trout.

summer fun FUELING

Look out your window this summer and you’ll likely see a golf cart filled with parents and kids zooming to the pool or headed to visit neighbors. Adaam Poché saw a need and knew he could fill a niche. That’s why he started Golf Cart Doods last year, selling and servicing carts for the Dripping Springs community.

“The community was so willing to help and reach out. It makes me want to stay here forever,” Adaam says. “You don’t get that elsewhere. Everybody goes the extra mile to help out.”

Golf Cart Doods goes that extra mile, servicing all carts. Gas vehicles require general maintenance and tune-ups; battery-powered rides also need replacement batteries and other fixes. Adaam can also customize carts with new premium tires and wheels, lift kits, and stereos.

Adaam and his wife Racquel (along with the “doods”–goldendoodle Penny and Aussiedoodle Lincoln) strive to deliver the customer service that Dripping Springs residents expect. For Adaam, that means a one-on-one personal experience.

“There’s one point of contact. There’s no runaround,” says Adaam. “We work on the carts and communicate directly with clients. It’s nice to see them smile like it’s a new cart.”

Golf Cart Doods carries plenty of in-stock inventory that is priced competitively and ready to go. Additionally, Adaam builds new carts from scratch using Navitas chassis with American-made parts. With 10 years of mechanical engineering experience, not to mention a stint working in hot rod restoration, Adaam can fulfill any customization request, including color, drive train, seating configuration, audio, and much more. “Whatever you want, I can do,” he says.

Adaam’s carts feature high-tech safety features like built-in governors and regenerative braking. But what really sets Golf Cart Doods apart is power. “All the neighborhoods here have hills,” he explains. “Every customer says, ‘I’ve never driven a golf cart that goes up the hills like this.’”

This isn’t your grandpa’s golf cart. Stand out from your neighbors when you explore your ‘hood. Design your own totally custom new build by visiting the showroom or GolfCartDoods.com today. Adaam, Racquel, and the doods are ready to help.

A FITNESS REVOLUTION

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY KRISTEN HAFNER

A longtime fitness enthusiast and Dripping Springs resident, James Montgomery noticed a gap in the local fitness scene: no group fitness boxing gyms. Recognizing the benefits of boxing and high-intensity interval training for physical fitness, mental toughness, and camaraderie, Montgomery saw Rumble Boxing Gym as the perfect fit.

Montgomery was born on Fort Hood near the end of his dad's Army career. He spent his early years in south Austin, attending Bowie High School. Montgomery began his health and wellness career in 1997 at Peoples Pharmacy in Austin, and in 2009 he opened and managed Victory Medical Center Pharmacy.

With a family of his own in 2011, Montgomery moved to Dripping Springs for more space and better schools for his sons, James and Noah. “Dripping Springs has provided a supportive community and many opportunities for my boys to thrive academically and athletically,” says Montgomery.

Montgomery continued his remedy-related endeavors in Dripping Springs as the owner of Solutions Pharmacy, specializing in customized medications. He also owns Dripping IV, which focuses on intravenous hydration, weight loss, and allergy treatments. His extensive experience and passion for health led him to bring Rumble Boxing to Dripping Springs.

A unique and effective fitness experience, Rumble boxing provides a full-body workout, improving cardiovascular health, strength, and conditioning. It also offers mental benefits like stress relief, increased focus, and confidence. Socially, Rumble Boxing fosters community and motivation in addition to providing an avenue to cultivate new friendships. Welcoming ages 13 to 93, Rumble caters to all fitness levels, ensuring everyone can participate.

There’s no need to be intimidated by exploring a new workout routine. Rumble instructors will guide beginners through basic techniques, creating a comfortable environment where everyone can grow together. It’s not uncommon to see first-time boxers next to professional or amateur fighters. “No matter your fitness level, we squad up and Rumble together,” says Montgomery.

More than just a fitness studio, Rumble aims to be a hub for community engagement. The location also offers retail options, including Rumble brand clothing and Lululemon apparel. By offering a unique space where people can come together to sweat and support each other, Rumble will undoubtedly strengthen the Dripping Springs community both physically and socially.
