Celebrating the Women Who Inspire Us!

Welcome to the ladies’ issue! There’s something special about taking a moment to recognize the incredible women who enrich our lives. Whether it's our mothers, daughters, wives, or friends, these women shape our world in ways both big and small.

With Mother’s Day this month, our attention naturally turns to moms—but let’s not forget the many women who play nurturing, guiding roles in our lives. From family members and teachers to mentors and community leaders, these women leave an undeniable imprint, shaping us with their wisdom, kindness, and strength.

As we celebrate women this month, it’s also the perfect time to support femaleowned businesses in our community. One of the greatest joys of my role is connecting with and celebrating the remarkable women of the Denville area—the visionaries, creators, and leaders who inspire us daily.

These women are builders and makers, movers and shakers. Some work in the spotlight, while others serve quietly, their contributions no less powerful. Their attention to detail, resilience, and unwavering dedication remind us that true beauty is found not just in what we see, but in the impact they leave behind.

Please take a moment this month to send a message, make a call, or simply remind the women in your life how much they mean to you. A few words of gratitude can brighten someone’s day—and honoring the women who make your life special is something we should celebrate every day.

In addition to celebrating the women in our lives, we also strive to highlight all of the stories, people, and businesses that make our community special. We want to welcome two new partners: Garage Experts of Essex County and Time’s Tin Cup Vintage Emporium. If you have an interesting story to share, a business you'd like to introduce to the community, or a special announcement to celebrate, we would love to hear from you! Please send us your photos and details and you might just see your photo or story featured in an upcoming issue. And for more content, follow us on Instagram: @DenvilleCityLifestyle.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives and homes.

HAIR WE ARE

Nicole Ribeiro’s All Styling Studio offers a unique blend of creativity, beauty, and community connection.

For many women, getting their hair done can feel like another item to check off a never-ending to-do list. But when you find a salon and a stylist you love, the experience transforms from a chore into a relaxing, enjoyable escape—a moment just for you.

“We’re always positive and we’re here because we want people to feel better about themselves.”

For Nicole Ribeiro, the goal was to create a space where getting your hair done felt like more than just a chore. That vision became All Styling Studio. It’s the kind of place she always dreamed of working in, and she built it herself. More than just a salon, it’s also an art gallery, creative collective, and community hub, offering a welcoming haven for all.

The space at 32 Broadway, Suite 2, didn’t initially match Ribeiro’s vision. It needed some TLC and took quite some time to come together, although she never failed to recognize its potential. Finding the right place, however, always required the now owner to recognize her own self-worth.

After putting herself through beauty school at Morris County Vo-Tech, the Denville native, born

and raised in Indian Lake, spent 10 years working in various salons, observing and learning from others. However, she felt overlooked and wasn’t inspired.

“It felt like I went unnoticed, but I knew I had the knowledge,” she said. Driven by the desire to make her voice heard, she ventured into freelance styling while finding her own path. And with the encouragement from mentors and family, she took the next step—opening her own salon.

All Styling Studio, a full service salon with hair and makeup services, opened in 2017. At first, Ribeiro expected it to be a solo venture, but plans changed. “I thought, if I’m going to do this, let’s just go for it. I kept envisioning a place for creative people – how many I didn’t know or who or where I’d find them,” she said.

Bottom:

She knew one thing for certain. “I wanted it to be a safe, creative space for artists and really any services that involved beauty – hair, makeup, things like that. It started evolving on its own. I had my following and then I just kept meeting people who wanted to work [with me].”

The salon showcases work by local artists, including a mural on the staircase and throughout the salon. Local coffee is served complimentary with bags available for purchase.

Today, All Styling Studio has a staff of six. The owner’s five-year plan is to cautiously grow and expand, becoming  “a stronger team and to possibly expand services beyond what we  already do,” she said. “Right now, we do hair, makeup, waxing, and lash extensions. I would love to see other services that I don’t do or no one else does right now.”

For its clients, the salon offers a sense of community where teachers run into former students and friendships blossom.

“Everyone feels like they’re part of the salon when they’re here. I want clients to feel like they are why we’re here,” she said. And for the stylists, it’s a team-based work environment. “We help each other and there is a great flow of energy between us and the clients.”

“I wanted it to be a safe, creative space for artists and really any services that involved beauty –hair, makeup, things like that. It started evolving on its own.”

An important element to Ribeiro is the on-going education that the stylists participate in, whether in-house or on location. “It is so important for growth and how we stay so inspired,” she said.

There’s no exclusivity when it comes to clients—if a stylist is unavailable, another can step in. “It’s very connected whether it’s with the clients or with the stylists, they all know each other, it’s so great, it’s so beautiful.”

Ribeiro wants her salon to be an unforgettable experience for everyone who walks through the door. “I don’t want anyone to ever feel intimidated or nervous. I want everyone to walk in and feel, whether you’re a client or work here, like you belong. We’re always positive and we’re here because we want people to feel better about themselves.”

Summing it all up, the All Styling Studio owner observed, “You never realize how much you’re helping someone—whether it’s a moment in a day or a life event - brides, mothers of brides, prom girls. You never know what you’re going to get, but the goal is how can we help someone. How can we make them feel better no matter what they’re going through and I feel like we do that a lot. It’s really rewarding.”

At All Styling Studio, it’s not just about hair—it’s about connection, creativity, and confidence. With every cut, color, and conversation, Ribeiro is proving that a salon can be so much more than just a place to get your hair or makeup done—it can be a space where people feel seen, supported, and beautiful, inside and out. Empowered Women, Bosses in Charge

HOW FOUR WOMEN TURNED A SUDDEN OPPORTUNITY INTO A THRIVING BUSINESS, THE BEAUTY LOFT.

ARTICLE BY LISA KINTISH | PHOTOGRAPHY BY THE BEAUTY LOFT, ALESSANDRA GUARNERI

In the ever-evolving world of beauty, Cait Magnotta, Aleyah Cannon, Jillian Brennan, and Dorothy Ceglauskas found themselves at a pivotal moment that would change their lives forever. What began as a chance opportunity quickly turned into a bold leap toward entrepreneurship. Seemingly overnight, the team behind The Beauty Loft, an eyelash salon in downtown Denville, transitioned from four franchise salon employees to empowered business owners—redefining luxury beauty on their own terms.

“It was a spur of the moment decision,” Magnotta, one of the four owners, explained.

When the salon they worked at closed, the women seized the opportunity to start their own business, turning a job loss into a bold new venture.

“We had a clientele with nowhere to go. It just seemed like the stars aligned, but it happened in a matter of weeks! It wasn’t a long, planned out thing that we thought about— it just fell in our laps,” Magnotta said.

The women swiftly secured a lease and got to work, ripping up floorboards and reshaping the space entirely on their own. In just two weeks, after a hands-on renovation with no outside help, they proudly opened their salon in October 2023.

“It’s really cool to be able to create a space that feels authentic to you and what you want to bring to the table instead of having to adapt to someone else’s vision,” Magnotta revealed.

As former salon employees, their creativity was restricted by decisions beyond their control as someone else dictated what was possible and what wasn’t.

Now, the team creates looks on a client-by-client basis, particularly when it comes to eyelashes. “We can mess around with colors – even eyelashes that match hair color. Other salons are very by the book. We create something that the client is looking for,” Magnotta explained.

Unlike other eyelash salons, The Beauty Loft offers a flat rate for refills and full sets regardless of style.

“We even do makeup for special events and prom. We’re getting into bridal – and we’re hoping with this new wedding season we’ll get more inquiries.”

The Beauty Loft also offers a training program designed to equip aspiring lash techs with the skills and support needed to launch their own careers.

Beyond beauty, this Denville business fosters a space where lasting connections are made and a welcoming atmosphere thrives.

“I have a lot of clients who have confided in me, so I get to be somebody that they talk to about what’s going on in their lives, whether it’s good or bad. It’s something that’s really rewarding,” she added.

Magnotta genuinely loves seeing her clients gain confidence and embrace their true selves. “When someone hasn’t gotten lashes in a while and they come back, they’re always super excited and say, ‘Oh, I feel like me again.’ That’s one of the most rewarding parts of it.”

As for being business owners, the ladies enjoy continuing to watch The Beauty Loft grow.

Magnotta’s personal advice to other women considering entrepreneurship is simple: believe in yourself. “Put the work in and don’t be afraid to take risks because if we could build this place from the ground up, I think that anybody can.”

“Just put your first foot forward and trust your gut. If you think you can do it, you can. Don’t listen to people around you. Don’t let people scare you into thinking you can’t do it. You’ll figure it out once you believe in yourself. If you just start, you’ll get to where you want to be eventually.”

TESS FEURY:

Breaking Barriers, Defying Limits

Meet the Denville native challenging stereotypes and inspiring the next generation of female athletes

ARTICLE BY LISA KINTISH | PHOTOGRAPHY BY USA RUGBY, KJ FEURY

Success isn’t limited to the scoreboard—just ask Tess Feury. The Denville native has mastered the art of excelling both on and off the field, proving that female athletes don’t have to choose between their passion for sports and thriving careers. As both a rugby champion and pediatric nurse, Feury embodies the balance of athletic excellence and professional ambition, turning challenges into opportunities for growth.

Her achievements on the field speak for themselves, showcasing the dedication and talent that have driven her success. Some of her many accomplishments include high school rugby player of the year; captain of USA Women’s Youth Olympic Team; Collegiate All-American; and Big 10 Rugby Freshman of the Year. In 2017, Feury was selected for the Women’s Rugby World Cup and was nominated multiple times for the MA Sorenson Award – one of the most prestigious awards in rugby.

Feury’s journey, however, began long before the championships and titles—rooted in a childhood love for rugby that started at an early age. “Rugby is pretty unique. At the youth level, it’s coed. When I was five years old, I was running around with the boys,” Feury said.

By high school, co-ed rugby was no longer an option because of its physical, contact-driven nature. With the help of her father, Feury founded the Morris Rugby Girls High School team. “Right from the beginning, I’ve had to create my own opportunities,” she noted.

Rugby is often seen as a male-dominated sport, but that perception couldn’t be further from the truth. “The first women’s rugby world cup was in 1991, so women have been playing this sport for a long time! People forget to open their eyes and look at it,” Feury clarified.

“I always say with female sports, the grass is greener where you water it.  We want it to keep growing.”

Despite the opportunities available, female rugby players, unlike their male counterparts, aren’t paid a living wage. “I work my 9-5 hours and then I train for rugby in between. It’s this special balancing act that I’ve learned. It’s definitely challenging, but it’s a challenge I wouldn’t change.”

“I think my on-field performance helps my career in nursing and my nursing career teaches me things on the field. The combination of the two has made me a better person, a better nurse and a better player.”

Offering some advice, Feury opined, “At the end of the day, we all spend way too long chasing someone else’s approval, whether that’s a boss, a coach, or a parent. I try to make myself proud and my teammates proud before anyone else and I think that’s what makes me a strong leader. If I can make myself proud, then I’ll be able to work and lead the people next to me.”

Women’s sports teams have been gaining popularity in recent years, and Feury has her own perspective on that.

“I always say with female sports, the grass is greener where you water it. We’re here, we’re working every day to put our performance in, but we need that help from the community and our fans and our sponsors to be able to keep our grass alive – we don’t want this to just be a blink of fame for women’s sports. We want it to keep growing and that’s really going to come from the fans [and the] little girls being inspired and wanting to be their favorite player when they grow-up.”

As for the little girls who may aspire to be like Feury, she suggests, “Anyone who wants to be in these shoes, it’s 100 percent worth it. Every single challenge and every single up and down is worth it to get to the moment where you can make yourself proud and you can make the teammate next to you proud. Take every opportunity and if there isn’t an opportunity, create your own. It’ll be worth it.” For more information on how to get involved with rugby locally, visit morrisrugby.teamsnapsites.com.
