Established in 2000, Connie’s Frozen Custard has been a customer favorite for more than two decades. One of the first frozen custard shops to come to Texas, and northwest Houston, Connie’s serves frozen custard through their walk-up and drive-thru. Vanilla and chocolate are the two base flavors of frozen custard, and with over 50 toppings available, there are endless possible creations. Add any combination of nuts, syrups, mix-ins, and candies for some super tasty combinations.
Unlike ice cream, custard is made fresh daily and isn’t cut with water, which makes it a smooth and creamy treat. For decades, the unique treats, great customer service, and amazing team keeps people coming back. The menu hasn’t changed- it’s always good.
Owners, Matt Greatens and Keri Jackman frequented Connie’s in high school, and enjoy seeing this generation of high schoolers do the same. With Happy Hour from MondayThursday 3-5 pm, folks of all ages enjoy this local favorite regularly. Having purchased the location in 2022 the couple was excited for the opportunity to own such an iconic staple of the community and continue the legacy.
With a new location in the works, Connie’s plans to open a second location in the heart of Cypress! ConniesFrozenCustard.com

“I tell our guests all the time, I don’t care how many Michelin Stars some restaurants may have, I will gladly put my wife’s bread pudding up against all of them,”
Inspired by one of their three daughters, owners Kyle and Jeanne LeBeouf took a leap of faith in purchasing R&R CraftHouse Grill. The first time they visited R&R CraftHouse Grill they knew they had found a gem, nestled in the corner of Malcomson and Grant in the heart of Cypress. Immediately, they realized this was the small-town feel in a bigger city that they had been hoping for.
Known for their quality “craft burgers” and crispy onion rings. Their gourmet burgers are made from a fresh blend of brisket, short rib, and chuck and are seasoned to perfection. R&R CraftHouse Grill offers several signature burgers like the Newton Burger which features fig preserves, bacon, and blue cheese crumbles for the perfect pairing of sweet, salty, and savory.
Soon to be added to the menu, and holding a special place in their hearts; The Freddy Burger, honoring one of their beloved long-time employees, Freddie Garbin, who passed away in July. This new menu item will feature a smashed, fried
boudin ball on the griddle and melted pepper jack cheese, placed over a 1/2 pound burger patty, with a drizzle of their freshly made Fry Sauce. Freddie was a beloved member of the R&R family and is greatly missed by all.
Save room for dessert, especially for Jeanne’s White Chocolate Bread Pudding with butter rum sauce! “I tell our guests all the time, I don’t care how many Michelin Stars some restaurants may have, I will gladly put my wife’s bread pudding up against all of them,” Kyle shares proudly.
With a fantastic atmosphere, outstanding menu, and family-friendly environment, R&R CraftHouse is the ideal spot for people to gather, make memories, and enjoy southern hospitality. R&R CraftHouse also boasts a dog-friendly patio with convenient parking to bring furry friends for a meal too.

Strengthening Texas Ties with new Bourbon Line

On the big screen, Cole Hauser is best known for his role as bad boy cowboy Rip Wheeler on the hit Western drama, Yellowstone. The show follows the turbulent saga of the Dutton family ranching empire as they defend their way of life at all costs, with Cole’s character often leading the charge. But off screen, Cole is more than
“There’s a big bourbon culture here, we appreciate that, love it and look forward to sharing our bourbon with Texas.”
an actor. He’s a coffee and bourbon connoisseur who is expanding his rugged brand into Texas. Recently, he’s helped launch a new bourbon whiskey that pays homage to generations of working cowboys.
Dubbed Lazy K Bar, the award-winning straight bourbon whiskey once available only in Montana, the setting for Yellowstone, is now available to Texas whiskey lovers and fans of the show.
“There’s a big bourbon culture here,” Cole said. “We appreciate that, love it and look forward to sharing our bourbon with Texas.”
Lazy K Bar draws its name from the Lazy K Bar Ranch in Montana, one of the oldest cattle ranches in the state. The whiskey is a partnership between
Cole, David Leuschen, owner of Lazy K Bar Ranch in Montana, and Britt West, a 25-year beverage industry veteran and VP of Spirits at Gallo. Bourbon lovers can now pick up a bottle of Lazy K Bar Whiskey in select Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Foods and other retailers across Texas.
Lazy K Bar is aged at least eight years in Kentucky inside charred new oak barrels to create a complex, memorable flavor. At 92 proof, it’s an incredibly smooth mix of caramel, toffee and aged honey. Each sip is a sweet balance of malted grain and sweet spices that warms the body. Cole calls it “perfection” saying his favorite way to enjoy Lazy K Bar is neat, without mixers or additions.
“I like a smooth, easy finish,” Cole said. “One that doesn’t kick you in the mouth. This one, really, I think we knocked it out of the park.”
Lazy K Bar is Cole’s second business foray into the beverage market in Texas. His first being Free Rein Coffee, a collaboration between several entrepreneurs and longtime San Angelo coffee roasters. Free Rein supports military charities and offers discounts to first responders, military, teachers and medical providers.
While Cole is most known for his Yellowstone role, Hollywood is in his blood. His great-grandfather was Harry Warner, one of the founders of Warner Brothers Studios. Two of his grandfathers were writers, his father, Wings Hauser, was an actor and his mother, Cass Warner, was the founder of the Warner Sisters production company. Cole has starred in dozens of films including Dazed and Confused, Good Will Hunting and, The Ritual Killer.
Aside from sharing his coffee and bourbon, Cole says he enjoys spending time in Texas filming, visiting friends and family. His son attends Texas Christian University and, last year Cole appeared at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to visit with fans. The Yellowstone universe,

which was created by Texas native Taylor Sheridan, has often used Texas as the backdrop for its storyline to unfold.
“Texas has been kind of a second home,” Cole said. “I get along well with your values and your beliefs down here.”
With the final episodes of Yellowstone premiering next month, it’s a fitting time to pick up a bottle of Lazy K Bar, settle in with a glass and enjoy the show. Cole laughed at the idea and suggests fans might need more than a glass.
“I hope they drink the whole season with Lazy K Bar,” he said. “You know, it’s an emotional season and they might need a little bourbon.”

When Covid hit, Michael Dykalski decided to get his MBA. After twenty years in the old field, he obtained his MBA at Rice University; “Rice sparked the entrepreneur in me and when I graduated I started to look at various small business and franchise options. There were several things about the Archadeck brand that interested me,” Michael recalls, “Creditable brand recognition, and lots of support from my engineering background and design perspective.”
Michael thrives on creating a solution to meet the needs of his clients and enjoys seeing the smiles on their faces. “I can now bring their dreams to reality. I am no longer putting people to sleep with the physics of how the decanter works to save the company money,” Michael says, reflecting on his work in the oil field. “Now I’m helping my clients get as much of their dream for their budget as possible.”
Like any home improvement, the price is dictated by three factors: Site condition, including location of gas lines, sewer, water, and power. Secondly, the size or square footage of the kitchen. And third, the materials used. “Often the dreams and budget don’t align, but my past life helped me find a phased solution where they can get the functionality right away and add features to it in the future,” Michael says.
“With Archadeck I am still a subject-matter expert and I can leverage my engineering background. The difference is working with the clients and becoming excited about the project with them.” Michael enjoys grilling/cooking outside, and he always has. Even when living in Canada he grilled year-round. “Every Christmas I would grill salmon sometimes in -40F weather.” remarked Michael.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to creating the perfect outdoor kitchen. Working with Archadeck will take out the guesswork and they will take the time to learn what is important to curate the perfect outdoor space to meet your needs. “My favorite thing to design is an Outdoor Kitchen. I like to think about how I would use the space, how I am going to move around, and how to entertain guests as the grill is running,” Michael shares.
Incorporating built-in grills such as a Blackstone style flat top grill, or a green egg smoker into your outdoor kitchen is very popular.
Sealed granite countertops (among other material options) allows for easy cleaning and maintenance while being appealing to the eye and timeless.
Food Prep areas are so important; whether you’re entertaining a crowd or just at home with the family or a couple of friends, food prep areas keep you in the mix instead of shuffling back and forth into the house.
Fire-roasted, fresh-baked pizza straight from your built-in pizza oven
Storage solutions are often overlooked, but so important. Looking past the popular brick and stone veneer, now what’s trending for its look and durability is Outdoor Rates Cabinets (HDPE or composite).
Although outdoor sinks are always nice to have, “An alternative option to consider, depending on budget and layout, is a well-thought-out food prep area with plenty of surface area near your grill–this can be more important than a sink,” Michael says.
A major part of Michael’s decision to open an Archadeck is his kids, “I was on the road a lot for a week or two at a time. Now I am home every night, and I can pick my kids up at school,” Michael says. “My six-year-old likes to draw with me at the kitchen table, while I am working on a few design sketches and he has his crayons working on his sketch. Although, for him, it’s usually a new monster of some kind.”
Since 1980, Archadeck has been bringing outdoor projects to life. Having built over 135,000 structures, including decks, patios, screened porches, sunrooms, pergolas, fire features, outdoor kitchens, and more.

WELCOME HARVEST WITH THIS SIMPLE SOUP RECIPE
HistoryToday.com explains that goulash is a beefy soup that originated in the barren beauty of the Hungarian plains during the ninth century. The dish was prepared by Hungarian Cowboys who spent months roaming the vast expanses of Eastern Europe on horseback while tending to their cattle. A lifestyle of sleeping under the stars calls for simple meals. Such soups spread throughout Europe and later across the world.
Though the soup is intimately linked with Hungarian culture, my
grandmother created a Southernstyle version. To make supper time feel fancy, she embellished this easy weeknight meal by describing it as a special recipe from Hungary. She was known to stretch the truth with her imaginative tales, but she was right about this recipe’s origin.
Goulash is a quick, economical dinner with robust tomatoes and macaroni noodles for any working mom to whip up on a whim.
• 1 Pound Cooked Ground Beef
• 1 Yellow Onion Diced
• 4-5 Russet Potatoes Peeled and Cut into Cubes
• 1- 28 Ounce Can of Whole Tomatoes
• 1 Cup Elbow Macaroni Noodles
• Salt and Course-Ground Black Pepper to taste
1. Heat a lightly greased pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
2. Add the ground beef and brown.
3. Drain off any liquid or grease. Return to pot or Dutch oven to heat.
4. Add in onion, potatoes, tomatoes, salt and pepper.
5. Cover with water and boil. Stir occasionally, add more water as needed and until potatoes are cooked.
6. Stir in noodles and simmer until the noodles are fully cooked.
7. Serve with Southern cornbread.

This hearty chicken noodle soup is the perfect comfort food that is packed with nutritious goodness. This pairs perfectly with homemade beer bread or a sourdough loaf.
INGREDIENTS:
• 8 cups chicken broth (add more if desired)
• Whole fryer chicken, cut in chunks or shredded
• 5 celery stalks, sliced
• 8 carrots, sliced
• ½ onion diced
• 4 tablespoons butter
• 1 teaspoon italian seasoning
• ¼ cup half and half (optional)
• 1 package egg noodles
• Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
In a large stock pot, add 8 cups of chicken broth. Dice carrots, celery and onion and add to the broth. Bring to a boil, and reduce to medium heat until the vegetables are soft. In the meantime, skin and cube 1 whole fryer chicken and add to the stock pot. Next, add egg noodles (frozen Reames homemade egg noodles are my favorite) and let boil until noodles are cooked. Add butter, half and half, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Simmer on low until ready to serve.

CAITLYNN BARGAS’ PASSION FOR COFFEE started back in her early childhood from memorable times spent with her father, Robert.
“As a little girl and still to this day, my dad has always been an early bird,” said Caitlynn Bargas, co-owner of Headcount Coffee. “I would wake up early just so I could smell the coffee. I was too young to drink it, so I would sit with my dad and just hold the coffee cup and smell it. This little tradition happened for a long time.”
ARTICLE BY HOPE VANDERBURG I PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF HEADCOUNT COFFEE
Once Caitlynn was allowed to drink coffee in high school, the two would have coffee together before school every other Friday.
“One day, I was sipping my coffee and mentioned to my dad my idea of starting this coffee company,” she said. “I didn’t know it at the time, but he bought the domain name later that day.”
The father-daughter duo would go on to found Headcount Coffee, formerly known as Cult Coffee, in 2023.
Headcount Coffee presents something not often seen in the coffee industry: freshly roasted coffee every time.
“When you order from us, the coffee gets roasted after you order and it’s on your doorstep in a couple days, making it the freshest cup of coffee you can get,” Caitlynn said.
Headcount Coffee offers various coffee subscription options including their full-size book box. The customer selects a book of the month along with a coffee blend of their choice.
“It’s like a book club and coffee club delivered to your door every month!” she said.
Headcount Coffee also sells a “profiled pour” where customers create their own coffee blend. The customer chooses the beans, roast level and grind preference, to compile their perfect ‘pour’.
The process of creating profiled pours comes to life as Headcount Coffee opens their first roastery: Read and Roast. The shop will make the profiled pour experience more personal to the customer and allows Headcount Coffee to serve even fresher coffee than before. Headcount Coffee is also free of preservatives, additives, is organic and Fair Trade. It is also mold free and toxin free.
“You will be able to go into our roastery and create your blend, watch it get roasted right in front of you and take it home immediately,” Caitlynn said. “We will make you a cup of coffee using your new unique blend to sip on.”
With an anticipated opening this month, they will host coffee classes, roasting classes, coffee tastings and more.
Just a little jaunt north of Cypress, headed toward Dallas, Read and Roast will also double as a bookstore. They plan to have a children’s section for story time and are looking to host book clubs and book signings with local Texas authors.
“You can come in, make your roast,” she said, “sip on that same roast you just created, buy a new book and hang out!”
