Hey Guys! It’s Our Turn!

Maybe I should not use the term “guys” for this message. It seems it has become a unisex word. I find that kind of strange since the word originates from the French and it is clearly masculine. But as I have gotten older, I am more mellow and less inclined to fight what I think are dumb things from succeeding generations. As long as I do not have to hear the unbelievably awful plural term, “guyzes.” Ouch!! That makes my teeth hurt; my ears too. But I will use “guys” because it is correct.

Our cover story is built around living your life according to the principles of music. As a totally immersed fan of jazz music, I found Freddie Ravel’s principles for living life in tune fascinating and profound. What could be better than melody, rhythm and harmony? Let’s cue up Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue” and take it from the top!!

In this issue we focus on some fun guys stuff. The Calvary Church Car Show for one. What can be more “guys” than that? The cars are awesome and the old models bring back fond memories.

Next for my fellow wine aficionados, Cellar Masters will build everything from wine walls to a complete wine cellar. Hmmm, what could be more masculine than blowing dust off of that 20-year-old First Growth Bordeaux? Pretty impressive guys! Thousand Oaks Fireside presents plenty of choices for the outdoor chef and mighty hunter as he grills his latest kill. You can do all this surrounded by incredible outdoor patio furniture from Aldik Home’s Summer Classic collection.

On a more serious note, Nick Jones Construction discusses homes designed for our fire-endangered environment. This is not just protection from potential wildfires—it is about knowing what to do to protect your family. There is also some very timely investment advice from the Lake Avenue Group at Morgan Stanley and Logan Investments.

There is plenty to read, enjoy and ponder in this issue. Not only for the guys in our community, but the gals too.

Home Equity

Unlock the hidden equity in your home.

When’s the last time you checked your home’s value? Not the Zestimate or a rough guess—but a real, data-driven market analysis from a trusted local real estate expert?

Rosemary can help you uncover equity you didn’t even realize you had. In today’s Ventura County real estate market, that equity could be your biggest financial asset—and the key to your next move.

What Is Home Equity (and Why It Matters)?

Home equity is the difference between your home’s current market value and your remaining mortgage balance. And with home prices rising across Ventura County, many homeowners are sitting on six figures of untapped wealth.

For example, if your home is worth $900,000 and you owe $500,000 on your mortgage, you have $400,000 in equity. That’s real money—money that can help you sell and upgrade, reinvest, or make life changes you’ve been dreaming about.

According to Cotality (formerly CoreLogic), the average U.S. homeowner now has over $311,000 in equity. In places like Ventura County, it’s often even more.

Why You May Have More Equity Than You Think

1. Strong home price appreciation in Ventura County: Over the past 5 years, property values in Ventura County, and beyond have risen sharply. If you bought your home before 2020, chances are you’ve seen significant equity gains.

2. Longer homeownership = more equity growth: Homeowners in Ventura County are staying in their homes longer—on average 10 years or more. That means more mortgage payments made and more time for your home’s value to increase. The National Association of Realtors reports the typical homeowner has gained $201,600 in wealth from appreciation over the last decade.

What Can You Do With That Equity?

Sell and buy your next home.

Use your equity as a down payment—or even buy with all cash.

Renovate your current property to fit your lifestyle. Whether you need more space or modern upgrades, strategic improvements can boost your home's resale value too.

Fund a business, cover education costs, or invest. Tap into your equity to finance dreams or diversify your income.

Thinking About Selling?

Your equity could be your next step toward something new. I understand what their home is truly worth—and what they can do with it.

FAQ: How can I find out how much equity I have?

Living Life in Tune

UNIVERSAL THEMES MERGE IN MUSIC AND BUSINESS

Music has always been a reflection of society—from the pulse of the people on the street to the rhythm of Wall Street. In these current times of tumultuous change and transformation, music provides not only inspiration, but structure, with the prompts to guide us toward clarity and purpose. Whether in business, community or personal growth, there are principles of music—if you know how to listen for them—that are at work to offer profound lessons that resonate far beyond the musical stage.

At the heart of this connection is Life in Tune®, a system that harnesses the universal elements of music— melody, harmony and rhythm—to unlock leadership, enhance collaboration and master the art of time management. Just as a great song brings musicians together in perfect sync, organizations, teams and individuals can align to achieve their greatest potential.

MELODY: THE VOICE OF LEADERSHIP

Let’s start with the melody. The melody, after all, is what makes a song memorable—it’s the guiding line that gives a composition direction. Think of the term we use in music every day such as “lead” singer. In virtually every situation, the lead singer sings the melody, becoming the focal point and leading the message of the song. Just as a song needs a clear melodic theme, an organization thrives with a strong, purposeful leader who sets the course and inspires others to follow.

HARMONY: THE POWER OF COLLABORATION

A single note can be powerful, but true beauty emerges when two or more notes come together in harmony. In business and life, collaboration is the harmony that elevates an idea from a solo effort to a symphony of success. The greatest breakthroughs come when diverse perspectives, like different musical notes, blend in unity rather than conflict.

RHYTHM: THE KEY TO TIME MANAGEMENT

Have you ever heard a band where the drummer is not laying down the foundation of tempo and feel? It’s rare. Why? They get fired fast!

Rhythm is the foundation of music—without it, even the most beautiful melody and harmonies fall apart. A company with a great CEO (the leader) and great project managers (harmony) are essential, but they won't get very far if they don't have time management. After all, time management is the backbone of success. Just as musicians must stay in tempo, we must master the rhythm of our lives, balancing urgency with patience, action with reflection and work with rest.

THE IMPACT OF LIFE IN TUNE®

When teams, organizations or people follow the principles of music, imagine what they could achieve. By tuning into the rhythm of leadership, collaboration and time, we create a world where we work in harmony rather than discord, where change is not a disruption but an opportunity to compose something new and meaningful.

There are many ways to experience  Life in Tune®, from keynotes that ignite corporate events to live performances that inspire audiences. Discover how music’s timeless wisdom can elevate your journey at an upcoming event and explore the power of music-driven transformation. After all, when we align with the melody, harmony and rhythm of life, we don’t just hear the music—we become it.

BUILT TO LAST

NICK JONES CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYS FIRE SAFETY INNOVATIONS IN MODERN HOMES

California locals know all too well about the increasing threat of wildfires, making fire safety a critical consideration for new construction. As a builder with years of experience in fire prevention, Nick Jones Construction leads the charge in incorporating advanced fire safety features from the ground up. Blending innovative design with cutting-edge fire safety measures, Nick Jones Construction specializes in creating luxurious homes built to endure in the face of fire threats.

“It’s all about making decisions during the construction process that not only protect the people in the house but protect the house itself from fire,” explains Nick, whose background as a firefighter and senior fire inspector gives him a unique perspective on fire prevention; an expertise he brings into every project.

Two of their recent standout properties showcase their commitment to fire safety, illustrating how thoughtful planning, collaboration with fire experts and a commitment to exceeding safety codes result in aesthetically pleasing, fire-resistant homes.

PROPERTY 1: THE QUINCY

Located in a high-risk fire zone, The Quincy is a prime example of how early planning and thoughtful design can reduce a structure's vulnerability to fire. With 360-degree views, a movie theater, gym and saunas, the single-story, 9-bedroom, 11-bathroom masterpiece, known as “The Quincy,” sits on a sprawling 20-acre mountaintop in Hidden Valley’s White Stallion Ranch. The namesake of Nick’s late grandfather, prominent architect A. Quincy Jones, the home is a testament to the company’s commitment to fire prevention.

“This house is designed to not only survive but to keep its residents safe in the event of a fire,” says Nick. “We’re not just following codes—we’re setting new standards.”

The Quincy

FIRE SAFETY FEATURES:

1. Class A Noncombustible Materials: From the start, building materials were selected with fire safety in mind. The home incorporates Class A materials, including concrete, stucco and tempered glass, specifically chosen for their resistance to fire.

2. Water Infrastructure: By installing a 2-inch water line around the perimeter of the property and strategically placing fire department hose connections, Nick Jones Construction designed a system to ensure homeowners and local fire services have immediate access to water, a crucial issue in protecting homes.

3. Strategic Brush Clearance: NJC went above and beyond complying with local fire regulations in clearing brush and creating defensible space around the property. “We don’t just meet the bare minimum requirements for brush clearance—we take extra steps, clearing areas where vegetation could act as fuel for a fire,” Nick explains.

4. Water Reserves: The home features large pools in both the front and backyards, which serve as critical water reserves. With nearly 150,000 gallons of water stored on-site, the property is equipped to withstand fire threats with a fully integrated pumping system, including handlines with pressure pumps and portable, cart-driven water pumps to ensure water is available when it's most needed.

Despite the challenges of building on such a large parcel, particularly with the need to ensure access for firefighting equipment and to manage large areas of brush, The Quincy stands apart as a luxurious strategically designed fire-resistant fortress.

PROPERTY 2: ELLICE STREET, MALIBU

Located above the iconic Neptune’s Net and offering breathtaking views of the ocean, Ellice Street in Malibu is another showcase of Nick Jones Construction’s

fire-resistant design philosophy. With almost 12,000 square feet of space on just over an acre of oceanfront land, this 6-bedroom, 7-bath modern estate incorporates the latest in fire safety technology while embracing contemporary design elements.

“The key challenge here was balancing fire safety with the unique architectural vision,” Nick shares. “When working with different architects and engineers, it’s important to maintain clear communication to make sure the final design works with fire prevention systems we know will work.”

FIRE SAFETY FEATURES:

1. Modern Fire-Resistant Materials: Steel, stucco and tempered glass provide maximum resistance to fire while contributing to the sleek, modern look. The absence of exposed wood—an element often associated with fire vulnerability—is replaced with more resilient materials, ensuring that the home is as fire resistant as possible. “We’ve moved away from materials like wood, which are a fire risk,” Nick explains. “Today’s buyers want homes with clean lines and a modern aesthetic—and those materials are often safer, too.”

2. Fire Suppression Systems: As with The Quincy, this property features a state-of-the-art fire suppression system, including hand pumps and water pumps that draw from the pool to ensure a constant water supply. The fire pumps are strategically integrated into the home’s design to provide coverage across the property. “These systems are designed not just for safety, but to ensure that there is always water available, even if we face a serious fire event,” Nick says.

3. Maintaining a Safe Construction Site: During construction, particular attention was paid to fire risks, especially during framing when dry lumber is often exposed. Proper water pressure and access to hydrants were ensured, and insurance policies were tailored to address the specific fire

KEY FIRE SAFETY FEATURES

DEFENSIBLE SPACES:

Thoughtfully landscaped areas act as barriers to slow the spread of fire and ensure easy access for firefighting teams.

EMBER-RESISTANT ZONES:

Ensuring all vents are spark-resistant and that the materials used prevent the spread of embers is key.

COLLABORATION WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES:

Consulting with insurance providers during the building process to integrate their feedback on fire safety measures adds an extra layer of protection for homeowners.

risks of the property. “We worked closely with our insurance providers to ensure that we had the right policies in place, and we kept the job site clean and well-maintained to reduce fire hazards,” Nick notes. “Maintaining the site during building is just as important as the finished structure.”

The home’s layout, combined with the careful selection of materials and fire suppression systems, creates a structure that offers maximum protection against fire without compromising on style. Nick also emphasizes how local building codes have evolved to address fire risk.

“Building codes are always changing to keep up with new fire safety knowledge, and it’s important to stay ahead of those changes. We’re designing homes not just for today, but for the future.”

ABOVE & BEYOND

Both of these homes demonstrate Nick Jones Construction’s unwavering commitment to fire safety, which goes above and beyond simply meeting code requirements.

“Fire safety is about creating a space where you don’t have to evacuate in an emergency,” Nick says. “We want to create homes that are designed to withstand fire, not just survive it.”

THE FUTURE OF FIRE-SAFE HOMES

As fire risks continue to rise, the importance of fireresistant construction has never been clearer. Nick Jones Construction is paving the way for homes that are designed not just to withstand fire, but to provide safety, peace of mind and durability for years to come.

“Building homes that can survive a fire isn’t just about meeting codes. It’s about anticipating risks, using the best materials and ensuring that every part of the house works together to keep its occupants safe,” Nick says. “It’s about building for the future.”

“I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is to not just meet the code but to exceed it. By working with fire professionals and continuously assessing risk, we can build homes that will stand the test of time and fire.”

Cellar Masters

Specializing in bespoke wine features since 1990, Cellar Masters is a fully licensed and bonded contractor that is known for designing, fabricating and installing wine racks and cooling systems for any situation.

Featuring wine walls and closets—as well as thousands of bottle capacity wine rooms and cellars—Cellar Masters in Newbury Park also has the largest off-site wine storage facility in the Conejo Valley with spaces to meet wine enthusiasts' needs.

“We are devoted to creating beautiful custom wine cellars, each step of the way,” says Scott Berry, who owns the business with his wife, Debbie. “The principals at Cellar Masters have been involved as vineyard owners, winemakers and avid wine collectors. We know the proper handling, storage and organization of wine, beer and spirits. This expertise is an unrivaled asset in the design and construction of your cellar.”

Serving Ventura, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Orange and Riverside Counties, Cellar Masters has more than 2,500 custom wine cellars installed throughout California and greater North America.

Popular offerings include traditional wine cellars made from the finest quality woods and cut to precision as well as sleek and elegant contemporary wine cellars designed with frameless glass, acrylic and stainless steel. Cellar Masters also creates wine walls based on the latest modern trends for storing and displaying wine.

“We can provide a turnkey solution that is designed for you, providing for a beautiful feature to any home,” says Scott, adding that a wine cellar does not need to be in the basement—rather, a wine space can be built anywhere. “While we design and build cellars within full basements or rooms, we also build them within closets, under stairs or other under-utilized wall spaces.”

For instance, some cellars can contain more than 10,000 bottles, others just a couple hundred.

Custom Wine Features to Enhance Your Home

“It really depends on what the client wants—we can help define that vision,” says Scott, noting that designs can be traditional or contemporary in style with wood, metal and acrylic materials.

For those not ready to have a custom wine cellar in their home, Cellar Masters also offers wine storage with lockers designed for simple access, featuring 36-inch wide steel doors. Each locker is no more than two cases deep to eliminate those “hard-toget-to” wines.

“We provide flexible storage options at our secure storage facility with unit sizes ranging from 12 to 250 cases per locker for all of your wine storage needs that are temperature controlled to keep your wine as close to perfect as possible, avoiding vibrations, bright light and temperature

swings that can do real damage to delicate and even priceless wine treasures.”

The business was originally founded by Ben Benoit, who was working construction in the theater space. Ben’s passion for wine led him to the wine cellar construction space, realizing it was an underserved niche.

Ultimately, Cellar Masters serves those who share a passion for wine by providing elegant custom wine cellars.

“From the casual wine drinker to the wine enthusiast to the serious wine collector, each would agree that wine is social,” Scott adds. “Our desire is to share our passion for wine with others—sharing a bottle (or two) between friends, old and new, typically provides for an enjoyable afternoon or evening with lively conversation.”

Cellar Masters is located at 2088-A Anchor Court in Newbury Park. For more information, email info@cellarmastersinc.com , call 805.375.5040 or visit CellarMastersInc.com

VENTURA COUNTY Food Share

Since 1978, Food Share Ventura County has been on a mission to provide food for thousands of area residents.

“We rescue, collect, warehouse and distribute 20 million pounds of nutritious food, grocery items and diapers every year to people facing food insecurity,” says President and CEO Monica White. “The food is distributed through our network of 190 partner agencies—such as food pantries, shelters and meal programs—as well as through direct distributions.”

The philanthropic efforts of Food Share benefit all that are hungry in Ventura County.

“Food Share serves a diverse cross-section of Ventura County—families with children, seniors on fixed incomes, veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness and working adults that struggle to make ends meet,” shares Monica. “Hunger can affect anyone—and we’re here to help, without judgment.”

Emphasizing the importance of these donations, Monica notes, “Donations are vital. Every dollar helps us provide three meals. That kind of impact means donor support directly translates to food on someone’s table. And volunteers— they’re the heart and soul of our organization. From sorting food in our warehouse, to helping at drive-thru distributions, to gleaning orange trees, we rely on over 4,400 volunteers each year.”

Food Share recently hit a snag as the U.S. Department of Agriculture suspended shipments of food headed to the nonprofit.

“The suspension and cancellation of USDA food shipments has had a major impact on Food Share,” notes Monica.

“Hunger can affect anyone— and we’re here to help, without judgment.”

The county’s largest food bank is an important program for so many, but their efforts cannot happen without the help of thousands of volunteers and donations from the general public.

“Food donations are always welcome,” says Monica. “People can drop off nonperishable food at our Oxnard warehouse or participate in food drives throughout the year. We ask that donated items be unopened, unexpired and in good condition. The most requested items from our clients include canned vegetables, pasta, rice and peanut butter—foods that are nutritious, shelf-stable and easy to prepare.”

“Over 213,000 pounds of food—including milk, eggs, cheese and meat— were cancelled, representing about eight truckloads worth $400,000 of food. This disruption is particularly concerning given the increased demand for Food Share’s services.

Since 2019, there has been a 170% rise in the number of food recipients, resulting in over 250,000 individuals relying on Food Share’s hunger-relief programs last year. Financially, Food Share also faces potential cuts, as it receives $838,000, or 10%, of its budget through various USDA programs. Community support—through donations, volunteering and food drives—is more important than ever.”

People can help by volunteering, hosting a food drive, spreading awareness about food insecurity or even writing a check.

“Every action—big or small—helps us get food to those who need it most,” says Monica.

CONFIDENCE Navigating Market Volatility With

With recent market swings leaving many investors feeling uneasy, financial guidance has never been more valuable.

Laura Marie Raulinaitis, Financial Advisor, Senior Vice President and Co-Founder of The Lake Avenue Group at Morgan Stanley, shares how her team is helping clients maintain perspective, stay focused and be confident—no matter what markets are doing.

LAURA, THE MARKETS HAVE CERTAINLY KEPT INVESTORS ON THEIR TOES LATELY. HOW ARE YOU AND YOUR TEAM HELPING CLIENTS NAVIGATE THIS RECENT PERIOD OF VOLATILITY?

At the Lake Avenue Group, we’ve always believed that confidence during uncertain times doesn’t come from trying to predict the next headline—it comes from having a thoughtful, comprehensive plan in place. For us, it’s about helping clients stay focused on what they can control. Volatility is a normal part of investing, and one of our roles is to help clients tune out the noise and make sure their long-term strategy stays intact.

WHAT MAKES THE LAKE AVENUE GROUP’S APPROACH TO WEALTH MANAGEMENT DIFFERENT?

We are a full-service, seven-member team working out of our Westlake Village office, and we take a holistic approach. We don’t just manage investments—we look at the full picture: cash flow, tax strategies, estate and retirement planning, lending solutions and even family dynamics. Over the years, we’ve helped clients prepare for market swings not just by diversifying their portfolios but by integrating all aspects of their financial lives into one coordinated strategy.

CAN YOU GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOU MEAN BY “INTEGRATED” PLANNING?

Sure. For example, when we’re working with a family, we’re not just asking about their investments. We want to

know: Are you saving and investing with purpose? What are your short, medium, and long-term goals? Are you comfortable with your level of risk? Are you prepared for life transitions like retirement, putting children through college or even caring for aging parents? We also discuss charitable giving and legacy planning. These aren’t just financial questions—they’re life questions. That’s why we work so closely with each client to create a strategy that feels personal and meaningful.

WITH SO MANY MOVING PARTS IN PEOPLE’S FINANCIAL LIVES, HOW DO YOU KEEP CLIENTS FROM FEELING OVERWHELMED?

That’s exactly why we built The Lake Avenue Group the way we did. We’re a team, not just a collection of advisors. Each person brings a unique skill set to the table. We have two professionals focused on long-term planning, advisors in asset management, lending and cash flow strategies, and a deep bench of knowledge when it comes to multi-generational planning. My background as a former athlete taught me the value of teamwork, and I designed our group to make sure clients have access to the best resources without feeling like they have to go it alone. Our clients often tell us that knowing they have a whole team working for them gives them confidence—especially during volatile markets.

WHAT PERSONALLY DREW YOU TO THIS CAREER?

I actually grew up working at a small family-owned sporting camp in rural Maine. It’s where I first learned about the stock market from a vacationing guest and realized I could combine my love of working with people with the world of finance. That experience also gave me an appreciation for small-business owners and the unique challenges they face. Those early lessons in hard work, resilience and community still shape how I lead our team and we serve clients today.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR INVESTORS TO REMEMBER RIGHT NOW?

Remember that volatility is not new—and it isn’t permanent. We’ve helped clients weather many storms over the years, and what makes the biggest difference is preparation and perspective. If you have a plan that is tailored to your life and you have a team that you trust, you can focus on what really matters—living your best life. That’s why we like to say, “Life’s better at the Lake.” We want every client to know they’re supported.

FOR THOSE WHO MAY WANT TO LEARN MORE, HOW CAN THEY CONNECT WITH YOUR TEAM?

The markets will always have ups and downs— that’s the nature of investing. But with the right plan in place and the right team behind you, you don’t have to weather the storms alone. If you’d like to learn how we can help you navigate today’s uncertainty and plan for tomorrow’s opportunities, we invite you to connect with us at 805.494.0236. Life is truly better at the Lake.

Convenient In-Home Care for Seniors: More than 57 million adults—17.3% of the U.S. population—are 65 and older! (National Council on Aging)

Age Easy

With this number expected to rapidly increase, the need for handling necessary care for a senior loved one might come sooner than you think. Sure, you can send your elderly loved one to a nursing home, assisted living or even senior apartments, but if there was an option for them to stay in the comfort of their own home while being cared for, wouldn’t that be the best option? Thankfully, Age Easy Senior Care offers quality in-home senior care for clients in the San Fernando Valley, Beverly Hills, Thousand Oaks and Ventura County areas. Owner/Operator Tigran Margarian shares more about their services.

Lead Caregiver Reina Vazquez

WHEN AND WHY WAS AGE EASY SENIOR CARE ESTABLISHED?

Age Easy opened its doors in fall 2024, and the inspiration for starting the company has been very personal to me.

My mother has been battling cancer with its ups and downs over the past 4 years…the frequent chemo sessions started causing more adverse reactions that caused my mother to be nearly entirely bed-bound for days before she recovered. It was at that moment that I realized how difficult and exhausting it is to find a good, reliable caregiver. Eventually, we found a tested caregiver through word of mouth, but this was the moment I decided to do something different. Something that had care as its primary objective, something that I could recommend to my mom.

WHAT DOES AGE EASY SPECIALIZE IN?

Every part of care that does not involve medical treatment is within our capabilities. We have clients who only need help getting to places (driving to doctor’s appointments, shopping, etc.) along with light housekeeping and cooking. Meanwhile, others often need more involved support, such as bathing, toileting, grooming and feeding.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HOME CARE?

I’m a big believer in the benefit of having a wider choice, and I think there are several strong reasons to choose home care.

1. For many seniors who have spent decades building and renovating their homes, it may not be easy to accept the necessity of moving into a facility. AARP had this incredible survey in 2021, which found that over three-quarters (77%) of adults aged 50 and older want to remain in their homes as they age.

2.Plenty of medical evidence demonstrates the importance of maintaining social connections in

the context of physical health. Staying home next to neighbors, friends and, most importantly, family, literally helps extend the life expectancy of seniors.

3. Home care offers one-on-one care that is rarely available even in the best assisted living facilities or nursing homes.

4. Finally, there’s the matter of costs. The minimum home care hours will often be two to four times cheaper than moving into a facility.

DOES INSURANCE COVER IN-HOME SENIOR CARE?

Unfortunately, home care insurance coverage is challenging. Medicare and traditional medical insurance policies don’t cover home care. Medi-Cal has waiver programs under Home and CommunityBased Services (Medi-Cal HCBS Waivers). My experience shows that only Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) can confidently cover home care costs.

Imagine a world where men didn’t have to carry the weight of silence, a world where they could express how they feel without judgment and where tears aren’t seen as weakness but as a form of strength.

I didn’t grow up with any brothers. My world was filled with strong, nurturing, expressive women, but I was blessed with an amazing father. He was kind, dependable and always present. His strength was steady and gentle at the same time; he led with quiet confidence and loved his family deeply and that left an imprint on my heart.

Fast forward to today. I’m surrounded by men I love deeply: my husband and our two incredible sons, two wonderful sons-in-law and the next generation, my precious grandsons. Through them I’ve been given a front row seat to the quiet strength and unseen pressure that sometimes comes with being a man.

Society still tells men to be the soldier of the family, stay strong, hold it all in and push forward no matter what. Yes there is still something deeply admirable about being dependable and protective, and yes it’s still so nice to have the door opened for me and I’m grateful for those gestures of care, but what I love even more is being part of a team where we share each other‘s strength with love and respect. In our family we try to create a space where our boys and men can feel, speak openly and just be.

I want my sons and sons-in-law to know they don’t have to carry the world alone and I want my grandsons to grow up in a world that embraces their whole hearts, not just their strength, but also their softness. It’s time to let go of the ones that teach men to suffer in silence, because real strength is found in asking for help; not incurring the load, but in knowing you don’t have to carry it alone. Take time to celebrate all the caring men in your life, as I do; I will always have fond memories of my dad.
