HOLISTIC, COMPASSIONATE CARE THAT LEAVES YOU FEELING REFRESHED AND RADIANT.
It’s time to celebrate the men in our lives—fathers, sons, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and friends. To every man who shows up with strength, wisdom, humor, and heart—we are so grateful for you.
This issue highlights just a few of the incredible men who make our community stronger. One story shares how a local man’s health battle led to a deeper mission—sparking honest conversations about mental health and reminding us all that vulner ability is a form of strength.
We also had so much fun creating this month’s cover, featuring two Columbia staples—Corby Jones and Bingham’s Clothing. Corby let us into his designer-filled closet and shared his take on confidence, personal style, and staying true to yourself. If you’re looking to refine your wardrobe, Bingham’s continues to be a go-to for timeless menswear and expert guidance.
You’ll also find a luxury property that’s the ultimate man cave—private, elevated, and perfect for entertaining—as well as summer grill recipes to help you kick back with good food and great company.
Here’s to the men of Mid-Missouri—real, resilient, and worth celebrating.
Warmly,

BY BRIAN NEUNER
It was November 2020 when Brian Neuner climbed a ladder in his barn to patch a hole in the roof—just an ordinary task on an ordinary day. But when he fell and ended up in the emergency room, it became the first of many steps into a life-altering chapter.
A month later, in December, Neuner contracted COVID-19. What began as shortness of breath escalated quickly—he stopped breathing. Admitted to the hospital, he spent the next 41 days in total isolation. “It’s too long to be alone with your thoughts,” he says.
The virus left him physically depleted. Once a high-energy extrovert, Neuner was barely recognizable—even to himself. “I averaged 20 to 22 hours in bed,” he recalls. “I didn’t have the strength to do anything else.” A former television sports anchor used to public speaking and life in the spotlight, he found himself instead struggling to sit upright in a hospital bed.
The emotional toll hit harder. Diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression, Neuner battled to find his way back. One panic attack stands out in his memory: unable to breathe, chest tight,
disoriented and terrified, he called out for his wife. She rushed to his side, told their daughters to call 9-1-1, and held his hands as paramedics arrived. “I genuinely thought I might be dying,” he says. “And it wasn’t the first time I’d felt that.”
Still, he clung to something deeper. “I kept thinking, it could have been worse,” he says. He leaned on his faith and family. Slowly, strength returned.
A turning point came during a call with a longtime friend, Mike Devine. “Mike said, ‘I think God’s trying to get your attention.’ I said, ‘Well, He has it.’ He replied, ‘Maybe not enough. God wants you even closer.’”
That conversation sparked change. Friends and mentors encouraged Neuner to share his
story. Even his doctor said, “With your media background, you have a story to tell—and I hope you tell it.” Neuner replied he wasn’t a doctor or mental health expert. The doctor insisted, “That’s exactly why it has to be you.”
After long talks with his family, Neuner developed a 30-minute presentation. He reached out to ESPN’s John Anderson, a fellow Mizzou J-School alum and friend, who filmed a video introduction for Neuner to use in his talks.
Since then, Neuner has spoken to athletic departments at the University of Oklahoma and UNLV, the University of Missouri President’s leadership team, several HR conferences, MFA Oil, and more. His goal: normalize mental health conversations, reduce stigma, and connect people with help.
Neuner begins every presentation with Anderson’s video, followed by a question: “When you feel overwhelmed—like there’s no way out—where do you find hope?”
The message resonates in packed rooms, but it’s the quiet moments afterward that stay with him. “You can help someone heal just by listening,” he says. “Sometimes people need to say something out loud just to feel alive again.”
“WHEN YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED— LIKE THERE’S NO WAY OUT—WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE?”
After one event, a man in his early 30s pulled Neuner aside. “He said, ‘When you talked about how much your wife helped you, it hit me. My wife is suffering from severe postpartum depression, and I don’t know what to do. Could you tell me some of the things your wife said to you, so I could say them to her?’”
Neuner paused, then shared what he could. It’s conversations like that—raw, honest, and human—that keep him going. “The scale of the mental health crisis can feel overwhelming,” he admits. “But every time someone opens up, I’m reminded why I do this. Telling my story is worth it.”

ARTICLE BY KATIE BOBROW
The sun has returned, and grilling season is upon us. With the nice weather comes vegetable gardens and fresh produce, along with the overwhelming desire to be outside as much as possible. We’ve compiled some fresh and light dishes that you can shop for at your local farmers market and whether you’re looking for a quick mid-week meal or something to grill for a crowd on the weekend these dishes won’t disappoint. These pair well together or can stand on their own!
1. Place skirt steak into gallon freezer bag
2. Combine all other ingredients in bowl and mix. Pour over steak and marinate for 3-4 hours or overnight in the fridge.
3. Bring skirt steak to room temperature by letting it sit out for one hour.
4. Get your grill hot on one side and medium on the other.
5. Once the grill is ready, wipe excess marinade off steak. Starting on the hot side, place skirt steak on grill for 2 minutes per side, attaining a nice sear.
6. Transfer steak to the cooler side of grill and cook until the internal temp is 130°. Let rest for 10 minutes (temp will rise while resting).
7. Carve and serve. This dish pairs well with beans and rice or served as tacos. Following is a chimichurri sauce that compliments it nicely.
*Outside skirt steak is a more tender cut than inside skirt steak, for this recipe outside skirt is recommended. Do not use too much lime as the citrus can cook the meat before putting it on the grill, resulting in a tougher texture.
• 2lbs. Outside skirt steak*
• 2 Tablespoons lime*
• 2 Tablespoons finely,
chopped cilantro
• ¼ Cup olive oil or avocado oil
• ¼ White onion, finely chopped
• 1 Tablespoon cumin
• Salt and pepper to taste
• ½ Cup parsley, finely chopped
• ½ Cup cilantro, finely chopped
• 2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
• 3 Cloves garlic, minced
• 1 Red chili (whole or deseeded depending on desired level of heat)
• ½ Teaspoon dried oregano
• 1 Teaspoon salt
• 1 Tablespoon lime juice (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. You can make this in the late morning and let it sit for around 4-6 hours, or you can make it the day before and let the flavors meld overnight in the fridge. Just be sure to take it out and get it to room temp before you serve it, as olive oil hardens in the fridge. Serve over skirt steak or tacos.
• 2 Ears sweet corn
• 10oz. Cherry tomatoes
• ¼ Cup lime juice
• 1 Finely chopped jalapeno or serrano (whole or deseeded depending on desired level of heat)
• ¼ Cup cilantro, finely chopped
• ½ Cup white onion, chopped
• 2 Cloves garlic, minced
• Salt to taste
1. Grill corn, you do not need to soak the corn beforehand.
2. Place corn on the grill (inside their husks) over medium heat turning every few minutes.
3. After 10 to 12 minutes shuck the corn and put the cobs back on the grill for 2-4 minutes rotating frequently to achieve that charred look and flavor.
4. Cut the corn from the cob, place in bowl and add all other ingredients. Let the mixture meld for about an hour and serve with tortilla chips or as a taco garnish.
DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
I’d say I’m extremely label-centric and fashion-forward. While I’m in tune with what’s current, I don’t follow trends unless they work for me. (For example, I’m not wearing skinny jeans and a silver-buttoned leather moto jacket just because it looked good on 140-pound Adam Levine!)
HOW DID YOU DEVELOP YOUR FASHION SENSE AND STYLE?
My general fashion awareness came from my mom. When I was young, she dressed my older brother and me in matching Polo and Lacoste outfits. As I got older, I added Tommy Hilfiger, Kenneth Cole, Girbaud, Z. Cavaricci and Calvin Klein (c’mon, it was the ’90s!). Then I discovered Gucci, Louis, Dior and Prada— and the rest is history.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE COLORS TO WEAR?
Sadly, about 85% of my wardrobe and shoe collection is made up of gray, black, navy and brown or camel. Yeah… I probably need to branch out a bit.
WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO OTHER MEN LOOKING TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN SENSE OF STYLE?
Don’t deviate from who you are—just own it. Pay minimal attention to what magazines and celebrities have to say. If it fits you properly (yes, I’m an alterations addict) and you wear it with confidence, you can pull off almost anything. A guy makes the clothes— they don’t make him.
CORBY, ANY FASHION YOU SEE AS A DEFINITE DON’T?
Great question! I could probably fill three pages, but I’ll try to keep it brief.
Looks I don’t do: graphic tees; ankle jeans or pants (they just look like high-waters or capris to me); jeans with bedazzled pockets; dress pants that fit like joggers; navy blazers with gold buttons; full denim outfits and/or jean shorts; long-sleeve button-ups with chest pockets.
CATCH US UP ON WHAT YOU’VE BEEN UP TO.
I’m currently general counsel for Winter-Dent & Company and advise student-athletes on NIL agent selection. I also serve on a regional bank’s advisory board.
I’ve also really enjoyed getting more involved with a faith-based charity called Fight Club ( fightclub-us. com), which serves young men through confidential peer support groups. With the rising teen suicide rate and the unavoidable negative influence of social media, the need for emotional, mental and spiritual support for teens is more important than ever.
Introducing Binghams' new owners Jake Black and Brian Millner, along with former owner David Danuser.
DAVID, HOW DID YOU KNOW IT WAS TIME TO BRING NEW OWNERS INTO BINGHAMS?
I was looking at retirement and wanted to see Binghams stay a staple in the community.
JAKE AND BRIAN, WHAT DREW YOU TO BINGHAMS?
JAKE: Bingham’s has always stood for exceptional menswear and personalized service. I saw the potential to build upon its strong foundation while bringing fresh perspectives to its timeless, classy, yet modern trends. More than that, I was drawn to its deep-rooted connection to the Columbia community and the generations of customers it has served.
BRIAN: I worked at Bingham’s when I was in college, and it’s the only locally owned option for high-quality menswear in Columbia. It’s always been more than a store to me—it’s a tradition. I wanted to help keep that alive for future generations.
BRIAN: Our team knows the products inside and out, and every customer leaves with garments that fit well and feel right. We offer something you simply can’t get from shopping online.
JAKE : Fit equals confidence. Invest in quality, get it tailored, and it will show in how you carry yourself.
BRIAN : Invest in classics. A well-fitted suit, a blazer, and quality shirts are the foundation of a smart wardrobe.

Michigan-based Lombardo Homes is one of the newer builders to hit the mid-Missouri real estate scene.
We got a chance to talk to Melissa Cervin, the VP of Marketing, and Chris Matteo, the Division President, who recently relocated to Columbia.
“What makes us unique is that we have an in-house team of home designers and stylist who will help you bring your dream to life,” Cervin said. “Our design studio gives home buyers access to a broad range of design options needed to design a home.”
Having that help means they can quickly envision what their new home will look like. Not only will they focus on choosing options that highlight personal preferences, but they’ll also incorporate functional design elements that complement lifestyle differences.
With business growing, Chris Matteo moved to mid-Missouri for day-to-day leadership. “It’s great to live in the community where our customers are,” Matteo said.
I love being in the grocery store and running into people I’ve worked with, built homes for, or know personally. I already feel a part of this welcoming community.”
Lombardo homes are available in subdivisions like the Gates. They have also recently begun building at the Lake of the Ozarks.
