TAEHYUN HWANG
SOUTHMOORE HIGH SCHOOL
Recent sports or academic highlight?
Last year, we beat Westmoore in penalties for the city championship. It will always last as a memory for me.
Personal highlights?
My name is Taehyun Hwang, and I am the son of Yunjae Hwang and Junghae Lee. I have one sister, Tara. I play soccer for Southmoore High School and am included in the National Honor Society, Band, Jazz Band, Key Club, and AAPI, and I also play for my church on the weekends.
How do you maintain balance?
I’ve learned that finishing everything as soon as possible is the best way to avoid falling behind. Every day after school, the first thing I do at home is finish my homework before doing anything else. It helps me stay on track while having band on weekends, after school, and working on the weekends. Plans for the future?
After high school, I plan on going to college to study biomedical science and then I will attend medical school to pursue becoming a neurosurgeon. My dream college is UC Berkeley.

RILEY SHARP
SOUTHMOORE HIGH SCHOOL
Recent sports or academic highlight?
This year I was awarded first-team all-state middle infielder and was named offensive player of the year for our district. I will also be graduating with honors.
Personal highlights?
My parents are Stacey and Paul Sharp. I play softball for Southmoore High School. My personal interests are hanging out with my friends and watching movies. How do you maintain balance?
I manage life, sports, and school in different ways, but the main way is to have good time management. I always make sure I have time to do the things I need to do, while not procrastinating.
Plans for the future?
After I graduate, I plan on attending Carson-Newman University on an athletic and academic scholarship. I plan to study nursing as well.

Dearest Gentlemen
Although we call the issue that comes out in June "The Gentlemen's Issue," we hope all our readers will take some time to read about some of the outstanding men who work and live in our community. They are all at the top of their profession and give generously of their time and talent to the community.
As promised in the last issue ("The Ladies Issue"), we shine the spotlight on a small, select group of men who are not only widely known and respected in their spheres of influence, but have also made giving back a top priority. These men represent a wide range of career fields: medicine/ dentistry, nonprofit, higher education, and art/photography. Our community is made better because of their efforts, and that of countless other men who share their passion for improving this place we call home.
Have you seen the Netflix documentary Sr., about the life of maverick filmmaker and actor Robert Downey Sr., yet? The film explores Downey Sr.’s life and work, while also exploring personal themes ranging from creativity and mortality to fatherhood and generational trauma.
The film was produced by Downey Jr. alongside Susan Downey and a couple, Kevin and Emily Barclay Ford: award-winning documentary filmmakers who have decided to take the plunge into Oklahoma's burgeoning filmmaking industry. For this documentary, the couple also had the chance to work alongside the late Downey Sr., as well as some other names you will recognize, including producer/screenwriter Norman Lear (now 100 years old!) and actor/producer/director Alan Arkin. See related story, page 46.
I could go on and on about these outstanding individuals and the others profiled in this issue, but it’s better if you read about them yourself. You may well be acquainted with at least some of them. If so, make sure to let them know you read about them here!
A note before closing. Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there. Your work is certainly cut out for you, as you help your sons and/or daughters safely traverse this complex and sometimes troubling world. But, as most dads will tell you, it's a role they wouldn't relinquish for any amount of money. And to our younger readers, please give your dad more than just a tie this year. Tell them you love them and describe how important he is to you.
Till next issue, best wishes for a fun-filled and productive June.

A Holistic Approach
PREMIER HEALTHCARE FOUNDERS STRESS IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRATED CARE
If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you look good.
Put another way, Premier Healthcare ( Premier HealthcareOK.com) founders Roy Slootheer, APRNCNP, and his wife, Amber Redding-Slootheer, DNP, APRN-CNP—both certified family nurse practitioners—are strong believers in a holistic approach to health that focuses on both physical and mental health, with a healthy diet and regular exercise playing a central role.
Mental and physical health often go hand-inhand, and he and his wife and partner, Amber Redding-Slootheer, DNP, APRN-CNP, take an integrated approach—both in their personal lives and in caring for the patients. Premier Healthcare was founded in 2020 at its current location in south Oklahoma City.
Some of the holistic services offered at Premier Healthcare include weight-loss counseling (including medications), hormone replacement therapy, advice on nutritional supplements, Acoustic Wave Therapy for ED, EMsculpt NEO (a new body-shaping procedure), a non-invasive pelvic floor stimulation therapy for pelvic floor muscle training for men and women that assists with incontinence, and sexual health issues.
Summer is upon us, and for many, that means visits to the pool or beaches, resulting in more

“Outer appearance is more important to men than most people think. The EMsculpt Neo is one way we can help them achieve their body image goals and increase their overall confidence.”
visits from both male and female patients looking for faster, safe ways to lose weight and firm up.
After trying it first themselves to ensure its effectiveness, the clinic now offers EMsculpt NEO treatments for their patients. Roy describes it as “a noninvasive, stateof-the-art machine that uses radio frequencies, combined with high-frequency electromagnetic pulses, to achieve 30% fat loss and a 25% increase in muscle mass.” It can be used on the stomach, love-handles, calves, quads, hamstrings, glutes and arms.
“EMsculpt NEO has proven for many to have amazing results,” Roy said, noting that both he and his wife have personally seen impressive results from it, including flatter stomachs and more toned muscle.
Many Premier Healthcare patients report high success rates in the clinic’s well-established weight-loss program, which they have offered since the clinic’s opening in 2020.
“We have many patients who closely follow our advice— including our personalized nutrition and exercise plan, detox/cleansing and fasting regimens—that have lost 50 to 60 pounds,” Roy said, noting that they plan to soon offer another weapon in the weight-loss arsenal, semaglutide, to their patients. The injectable drug, initially only used as diabetes medication, was approved in 2021 by the Food and Drug Administration to treat chronic weight management in the 70% of American adults who are obese or overweight.
Roy derives tremendous satisfaction in helping his patients attain their general health and weight-loss goals—important steps in achieving and maintaining a high quality of life.
“Outer appearance is more import to men than most people think,” he said. “The EMsculpt Neo is one way we can help our male patients achieve their body image goals and increase their overall confidence.”
Roy and Amber are positive models for this holistic approach to life, one tenant of which is maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Roy is passionate about writing—both fiction and non-fiction. In one of his first endeavors, Broken Glass, Roy recounts his journey alongside his late wife after her diagnosis and, ultimately, losing battle with Stage 4 lung cancer. He and Amber also love traveling, especially to places with great beaches. “Italy has stolen our hearts,” he confesses, noting that they even have an Italian Greyhound.

Celebrating Music & Medicine
THESE ORTHO CENTRAL SURGEONS SHARE A LOVE OF SURGERY AND SONG
Call it practicing cutting-edge medicine with a side of music. Or striking the right tone with satisfied patients as a result. However you care to describe it, there’s no better orthopedic care to be found than that provided by orthopedic specialists Drs. James L. Bond and Brian Clowers, colleagues at Ortho Central, which is part of the Norman Regional Health System.

Dr. James Bond (Kaylin Hill @ Kollab Creative Co. Photography)
Both physicians are certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and perform all types of orthopedic surgery.
Bond’s subspecialty interests include arthroscopic surgery, cartilage restoration, orthopedic care of the shoulder and knee, rotator cuff repair, sports-related injuries, surgical fracture care and total joint replacement of the shoulder.
Clowers performs general orthopedic surgery and sub-specializes in disorders of the foot and ankle. Both treat patients of all ages and conditions arising from disease, trauma, chronic injury and aging.
So where does the music come in? Clowers, who plays clarinet and saxophone, earned his bachelor’s degree in music prior to entering medical school. Bond, meanwhile, had always been a huge music fan and developed a habit of singing during surgeries. To this day, he
frequently sings during surgical procedures, often at the request of his patients.
Both Bond and Clowers are graduates of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed their residencies at the OU Health Sciences Center.
From there, Bond completed a fellowship at the prestigious Southern California Orthopedics Institute, where he was among the first to perform minimally invasive, or “closed” shoulder surgery. After graduating as the institute’s top Fellow, he helped establish closed shoulder surgery as the current standard of care across the country. Bond has been recognized as one of the nation’s top orthopedic surgeons by U.S. News & World Report. He’s also received the Daily Oklahomans’ Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Orthopedic Surgeon” each year from 2015 to 2019.
Bond’s road to becoming a surgeon was somewhat convoluted. After graduating from Jenks High School,

Dr. Brian Clowers (Kaylin Hill @ Kollab Creative Co. Photography)
he was in his senior year working on a bachelor’s degree in English when his mother became ill with cancer. Bond commuted back and forth from college to help care for his mom during her chemotherapy treatments. After watching her doctors in action, he determined that he wanted to become a doctor himself. That led to several more years of college to take the needed courses, then on to medical school.
“I did a few oncology rotations, but those were too hard emotionally,” Bond said. “Then when I did my orthopedics rotation and some sports medicine, I thought ‘I can do that.’ I’ve been an athlete and interested in sports my whole life, so I understand where these patients are coming from. Helping people and getting them back to their game; that was just the fit for me.”
Clowers, meanwhile, grew up with a natural affinity for science and math, and said he was pretty sure he wanted to become a physician by the time he graduated from Westmoore High School in Oklahoma City. However, he also was a clarinet player, and even though he didn’t anticipate earning a living as a musician, he nevertheless wanted to get his music degree from OU. The music school allowed him to complete the required curriculum while at the same time taking the electives needed for medical school, which was a perfect situation.
It was late in his third year, after he’d already determined to become a surgeon, that Clowers completed an orthopedics rotation and found his niche.
“I thoroughly enjoy the hands-on nature of the surgical fields as well as the technical challenge of surgical arts,” Clowers said. “I have a gift for the spatial part of it that we use on a day-to-day basis, being able to synthesize what you see diagnostically and translate that imagery into your care procedures.”
Specializing in the ankle and foot, he added, further piqued his interest.
“When I looked at a subspeciality I settled on this because I get to do a little bit of everything— joint replacements, trauma, sports injuries, pediatric and adult patients—all in one part of the body,” he said. “I really enjoy the dexterity challenge that arthroscopic surgery provides, and to be able to effect so much change through

such a minimally invasive approach. I also enjoy the geospatial aspects of reconstructing arthritic joints and the challenge of restoring anatomic relationships.”
When not in the office, both Bond and Clowers spend time with their families and enjoy various hobbies. Both are avid sports fans.
Bond’s wife, Susan, holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology and is currently serving on the board for the newly established Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine in Oklahoma City, which honors her martyred cousin, Catholic priest Stanley Rother. Together the Bonds have five children, ranging in age from 26 to 13.
Clowers and his wife, Leslie—a journalist and teacher who’s now working on her master’s degree in museum studies—share 11-year-old twin daughters and an 8-year-old son. He and his wife are huge supporters of the arts, serving on boards for the Norman Arts Council, Norman United Way and the advisory board for the OU Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts’ School of Dance, among others.
As one would expect, both doctors say their careers are fulfilling on every level.
“With our specialty, it’s not often that you’re saving lives, but there are plenty of cases where you’re improving them considerably,” Clowers said. “When you can fix a patient and they can do things they haven’t been able to for years, or you can alleviate chronic pain they’ve been living with, or repair a disabling injury, that’s satisfying. I’m also very attracted to the sports medicine aspect; there we’re helping people who are worried they won’t be able to play their sport again.”
Adds Bond, “I’ve worked on over 15,000 shoulders over the past 20 years. Every patient that comes in and we can make them free of pain, that’s a good feeling.
“With our shoulder surgery patients we have a ‘graduation day,’ which is when they are finally able to raise their arm over their head, and we take pictures and video,” he said. “That’s beautiful. I even have one patient who comes back every couple of years just to show that he can still raise his arm over his head! At the end of the day, that’s what keeps me happy to come to work.”

Norman attorneys David Teasdale (left) and Jake Aldridge share a light moment.
NORMAN ATTORNEYS PUT ‘COUNSELOR’ BACK ON THE PLACARD
ARTICLE BY KRISTEN GRACE
PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHAR ROTHER PHOTOGRAPHY
“I have had a few experiences in my career that changed me. Absolute epiphanies.”
Jake Aldridge has been practicing law for 15 years, but his journey hasn’t been a straight line. After passing the bar in early 2008, Jake worked as a public defender and then as a litigator for insurance companies before opening his own firm with his friend, David Teasdale, to practice personal injury law.
“At the turn of the century, when Oklahoma was being formed, there were—generally—three highly educated people in each town: the clergy, the doctor and the lawyer. Attorneys and counselors at law. You could talk to your lawyer, and it would remain privileged, just like it would with your doctor or your clergy.
“Somehow we got lost as a profession. The word ‘counselor’ is not on our placard anymore. That is why David and I ended up practicing law together. Because he is the only guy I know who practices law the way I do.”
Although Jake and David both graduated law school from Oklahoma City University, they didn’t meet until a little later.
Jake explains: “After I had been in the Public Defender’s office a few years, David became an intern of mine in the summer of 2008. He continued on in law school and went to work in a plaintiff’s firm, which is what we currently are. We represent clients who might have been in a car wreck, or suffered medical malpractice, or pernicious liability.
“In 2014, I had an epiphany during a case that I actually litigated against David and another lawyer,” he added.
“I tried a case against a woman who was traumatically hurt, and I followed the guidelines of the insurance company, and I got the jury to give a number that was not in the best interest of that hurt woman. And when the jury came back with the number, I had a sinking feeling. The woman was crying, with her head in her hands, and I had fought for a multi-national, multi-billion-dollar company, and this woman was stuck with the bill. It forever changed my ability to take those cases.
“That year,” Jake said, “I moved to the plaintiff’s side. If you get hurt,

Six years later, on Jan. 1, 2021, David and Jake joined together as a firm, working out of Jake’s home for the first five months.
Their new office building at 324 W. Main St. in downtown Norman is also home to the Tom S. & Marye Kate Aldridge Charitable and Educational Trust, which has given away over $5 million over the past 25 years in lieu of a Florida beach camp for patients at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital OU Health, scholarships at all major universities in Oklahoma (among other beneficiaries) started by Jake’s great-grandfather.
Jake asserts that most of their business is a residual business— coming from referrals of referrals of referrals.
“We try to deal with everyone kindly: our clients, doctors, insurance companies, accountants. We represented them five or six years ago and we try to take care of them. Five or six years later, people come back. When they recommend their friends and families to us, that means the world to us. Good service begets good service; these relationships matter.”
I’m going to take your case. If you don’t win, you owe me nothing. If you do win, you owe me a portion of the settlement that we decide on the front end.”

Revitalizing a derelict lot in Downtown Norman (formerly the old, abandoned lumber yard) and moving my dental practice to core Norman in 2019. Located at 227 W. Main St., it was the first new construction on downtown Main Street in 47 years.
OTHER CURRENT AND/OR PREVIOUS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT? (PLEASE LIMIT TO 3):
I am currently serving on the Mary Abbott Children’s House board. From 2014-2020, I completed two terms on the Norman Arts Council board, and from 2019-2020, I co-chaired the committee to re-design the City of Norman flag. A crowd-sourced and publicly voted design, in 2022 it placed fourth out of 312 redesigned American city flags in a comprehensive survey conducted by the North American Vexillological Association.
YOUR PHILOSOPHY ON GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY?
Being born and raised in Norman, I grew up in a healthy community with vibrant culture, strong schools, a robust library system, enriching extracurricular activities and safe streets for me to run around as a child and teenager. I believe that growing up in that environment contributed to the success I appreciate now. I find it only appropriate that I make contributions to continue that legacy and ensure that type of environment for future generations of Normanites.

Heading the mentorship program at OCCC is truly a gracious gift from God, and each time I see a student graduate, I am proud of them. I believe that all students have a success story waiting for them. It may or may not involve lots of money or fame, but it is the fulfillment of who they were created to be and what they were born to do. In many cases, they have no idea how to get there and may lack the confidence to make that journey alone. They just need someone who genuinely cares about them to usher them to that destination of personal greatness. I am honored to provide support and advocacy to students as they navigate their college experience. Being able to watch hundreds of students evolve into their greatness has been a tremendous blessing.
OTHER CURRENT AND/OR PREVIOUS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT?
I previously had the privilege to serve on the board of Suited for Success, a local nonprofit devoted to helping women enter/reenter the workforce. I am a certified image consultant, and I love helping people look their best. I particularly enjoy helping women who may not have much money or many resources. It is a blessing to see their faces brighten as they look in the mirror and reimagine their futures.
I also previously served on the advisory board for the DECA program at Moore Norman Technology Center. The high school students were budding entrepreneurs, and I cannot begin to tell you how intelligent, enthusiastic and teachable they were! Not only were they smart, they were kindhearted and understood the importance of giving back to the community. They had a clothes closet that provided free clothing to those in need. Volunteering to help those students remains one of my greatest joys.
PHILOSOPHY ON GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY?
Everyone has something to offer others. It may simply be a smile or a kind word. I have found that sometimes a student just needs someone to encourage them, to believe in them, or to just give them hope when their hope account balance is zero. This principle is true not just with students, but with people of all ages and circumstances.
“Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr. (when he was a 19-year-old college student).

Choosing one moment or achievement as my proudest would be unfair to all of the moments that have led to the career I’ve been blessed to enjoy. My metric for success is if I know whether or not it makes the people in my life proud. Photography and art have opened doors for me that I could not have, as a poor kid from a small town in Texas, ever been able to imagine even knocking on. I truly look forward to all of the opportunities and wonderful people that I’ll have the privilege of working with in the future.

James Callahan (right) stands with his good friend David Dunn. The two connected at Life.Church when Dunn invited Callahan to the men’s breakfast.
Each weekend at Life.Church, men and women walk up to a wall that describes a variety of small groups, called LifeGroups, where people can open up about life and faith, overcome addiction, share a hobby, and make lasting friends.
At Life.Church Northwest Oklahoma City, James Callahan is often found standing nearby, ready to help anyone find a group where they can belong because he knows firsthand just how life-changing a community can be.
Eight years ago, James had just been married to his third wife, Danielle, when they began attending Life.Church. He remembers going to church off and on for two years before deciding to become a regular and choosing to open up to others.
“Those first few years coming out of my second divorce were very isolating. I knew my way wasn’t working, but I didn’t know exactly what Jesus’ way looked like,” James shared.
“The more I talked to other men in the church, the more I realized their stories mimicked mine. I started to see other men who thought they weren’t good enough, who thought they were going to mess it all up. I really identified with what I was hearing those other men say. One of them invited me to a men’s breakfast.”
The men’s breakfast at Life.Church Northwest Oklahoma City is one of 186 men’s LifeGroups across the 10 Life.Church locations in the Oklahoma City metro. Each Life.Church location also offers LifeGroups for women, couples, young adults, singles, people with shared interests, and Neighbor groups that serve in the community.
“I got to that first breakfast a little late, so when I walked in, men were already talking in groups. I remember wishing I had what they had,” James recalled.
“I was so hard on myself. I thought, ‘You don’t belong here. Everyone’s going to figure you out. You’re going to mess it up.’ But I still wanted to be a part of it.”
James decided to go back to the next breakfast. He got there early and offered to help. He passed out name tags and welcomed other men.
“The fact that I felt just as worthy as anyone else to be there is a picture of how much God can work within someone in a short period of time,” he said.
One of the men who invited James to his first men’s breakfast was David Dunn. He experienced his own doubts about building new relationships.
“I never knew how much I needed community until I was in a LifeGroup,” David said. “The biggest hurdle for men today is to be able to share about their own weaknesses and wounds with others, but it’s worth it.”
In the ensuing years, David invited James to more breakfasts, to men’s retreats, and to mentor teens in Life.Church’s youth ministry, Switch. Today, they’re friends who get a kick out of finding ways to help other men build strong friendships.
Instead of giving up, the Callahans found a place where they belonged. Their marriage is stronger, and in the past two years, they’ve both joined Life. Church’s staff. James now serves as an associate LifeGroups/LifeMissions pastor alongside his mentor, Robert Davis. Together, they’re helping people make friends and find the kind of freedom James has found.
“Friends debunk the lie that you’re alone—that you’re the only one who feels or acts the way you do,” says Davis. “Friends help us believe in God and believe in ourselves.”

WOODWORKS DISTILLING CO.
RETURNING TO THE ROOTS OF AN ANCIENT CRAFT
ARTICLE BY JERRI CULPEPPER
The story of distilling spirits has been written down through the ages, alongside the unfolding story of civilization itself. In some sense, what Woodworks Distilling Co. ( WoodworksDistilling.com) in Oklahoma City is doing today is simply returning to the roots of this craft: in small batches, drawing from local ingredients, and with artisanal attention.
"Woodworks Distilling honors this deep tradition, with every intention of writing its next chapter. That means that a story is told in every sip. Ours. And yours," said founder David Wood.
Woodworks Distilling currently produces award winning Vodkas and Gins, with two liqueurs coming soon and a rye and bourbon program that await the arrival of barrels. They offer a choice of sourced bourbon and rye, until that time comes.
Planning a fun night? David offers the following simple recipes that would be ideal for any gathering.

Netflix “Sr.” Documentary Co-Producers Turn Eye to Pursuing Film Work in Oklahoma

Husband and wife Kevin and Emily Barclay Ford both found their passion in the world of filmmaking before collaborating on an award-winning Netflix documentary that magnified their careers.
From a town in Northern California with around 500 people, Kevin first picked up a video camera from his aunt at the age of 10. Throughout high school, he filmed videos with his friends and learned the art of the craft from a retired German documentary filmmaker. He wanted to tell his own stories with experimentation through the medium, leading him to New York City and Los Angeles for most of his young life.
Emily, from Oklahoma (she grew up in north Edmond), was no stranger to the film world in high school, and she was fiercely determined to pursue her career at USC. She landed a job working on the set of the Steven Spielberg movie Twister and soon became a producer in Los Angeles. Emily is also executive vice president of Team Downey, Susan and Robert Downey Jr.’s production company.
The pair worked internally with Robert Downey Jr. to develop documentary ideas, as Kevin previously shot countless hours of archived footage and behindthe-scenes for the actor.
Once Downey Jr. was presented with the idea, he turned it down in favor of changing the subject of the film to his father. The documentary titled Sr. was born. At the time, the widely celebrated filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. had Parkinson’s disease. Both Kevin and Emily began the documentary as a reflection of Sr.’s filmmaking throughout his life, but they quickly realized the film would be taking another direction.
“The collaboration was born, and we all embarked at that time thinking it was probably going to be more of a cool, funky retrospective about his dad’s films,” Kevin said. “I really don’t believe any of us set out thinking we were going to make a film about him facing his own mortality. But that is the nature of the documentary. And over the course of those couple years, that is what the film became. It was like a race against the clock to tell his story and to celebrate his filmmaking.”
Kevin and Emily captured Robert Downey Jr.’s tribute to his father while simultaneously forming connections with Sr. themselves. The documentary showcases Sr.’s reflections on life and shines a light on his relationship with his son, but during the process of filming, Sr. wanted to add his own twist. Kevin was pulled aside to a private editing bay with Robert Downey Sr. to cut another version of the documentary.
“What became apparent to me was that his version was really a last chance for him, while he was alive to revisit every single film he’d ever done,” Kevin says. “Which were postcards from his past; he made like a collage of his whole life’s work and threw everything in the blender. So, it wasn’t chronological telling of a story for him, it was probably just an amazing trip down memory lane. I got to help him do that. So, we have these two different results, but I think our film, the released version, if you look at it and have that in mind, you see the artist at work and you start to see how his brain works.”
With such raw emotion translating through the camera lens, both Kevin and Emily shoulder creative and personal responsibility crafting the cinematic journey that is Sr. Following Robert Downey Sr.’s passing, the impact of Emily and Kevin’s role in producing, editing and championing the heart of the film remains everlasting.
“As a producer, I felt my contribution was important to honor Sr.’s spirit because when he was alive I felt protective of him,” Kevin says. “And then, after he was gone, I felt even more protective of him. Sr. was the kind of guy that was encouraging about following your art and passion. The fact that his name is not forgotten, his works pop up and people learn about him or even get curious, then it wasn’t for nothing. He didn’t just disappear. So, I think Robert Jr. was really right on the nose when he said, ‘I’d rather make a film about my dad.’”
After finishing Sr., the pair embarked on a journey to Oklahoma for Emily’s Heritage Hall High School reunion when they found themselves looking for a change. Despite the drastic differences between New

York and Los Angeles, Kevin and Emily began to explore the filmmaking world in Oklahoma City.
“When we had come here before, it was always in the context of my family,” Emily says. “I was like, I think we just need to get our own place, be in the cool part of town, and just do our own thing and explore. Within 24 hours, Kevin said, ‘I don’t wanna leave. We’re not going.’”
After touring a few film production companies across the city, Kevin and Emily felt a strong sense of community and independent creativity throughout the industry.
“I’m mad that Sr. isn’t here now because I would love to tell him about how wonderful I feel things have worked out for us in Oklahoma City,” Kevin says.
“A lot of people ask us about the film industry here. There are all the ingredients for it to grow. There’s the right stuff. And with some of these people that are already here and have been doing it for the many years that have led to this moment, we’re just trying to add our thoughts and hope to be a part of that growth.”
