One of the largest residential pools in the area, the private pool at Cambridge Square was designed to mirror the rich design patterns of the homes and streetscapes within the residential district of the com munity. Conceptually created with both fun and relaxation in mind, the Cambridge pool offers a sweeping patio deck of Italian tile, manicured landscape beds for increased privacy, a turf play area for outdoor games, and a mushroom splash pad for younger swimmers.

MILK does pop-ups, online, personal, and editorial styling. I do pop-ups two to three times each year. I recently did a pop-up at the Common House. I try to MILK Boutique offers an innovative shopping expe rience with online shopping, pop-up stores, and personal and editorial styling. Starr Card, Creative Director and Founder of MILK Boutique, spoke with us about her business. We learned more about her journey to personal styling and where she hopes to see her business in the future.  How did you get involved with personal styling? Growing up, my grandmother owned a dry cleaning business. My Nannie was a classic the epitome of grace and style. She could run a mile and still smell like a rose.

When I got older and started working with her at the dry cleaners, she would teach me about fashion. Some people might have gone to school to get this kind of education, but I got it hands-on very early in life. She really taught me that it is always quality over quantity. For example, if you get an expensive cashmere sweater now, you are going to have it for years to come. What services does MILK Boutique provide?

“Many people want hands-on help. Maybe they get a unique blouse but they don’t know what to wear it with. Other reasons are closet organization and functionality.”

Looking ahead, I am focusing less on popups and more on styling. Moving forward with MILK, I want to transition the busi ness into what helps clients form a capsule collection with a few lines that will help peo ple shape their style with core pieces.

For more information about MILK’s ser vices or to shop, host a pop-up, or book a styling session, visit their website or social media website:pages. milk-boutique.com instagram: @milkboutiquechatt

A capsule wardrobe is essentially differ ent versions of the same core style: a top or bottom that you can wear four or five different ways and an outfit that you can dress up or dress down. In a world where everything is so disposable, it can be diffi cult to prioritize quality, but these pieces will be quality clothes that customers will be able to wear for several years. So qual ity, core pieces that you are going to have forever is ultimately what I am trying to get back to right now.

Many people want hands-on help. Maybe they get a unique blouse but they don’t know what to wear it with. Other reasons are closet organization and functional ity. Sometimes, people have emotional attachments to certain pieces and I ask, “Well, when did you where it last?” Then, the crickets will start. So we make different piles: one pile will be the keeps, another will be the maybes, and the last will be for donations where clothes can be given away or put on The RealReal to make some extra money. This process frees up closet space and makes room for new pieces.  Sometimes, I pack clients' suitcases or minimize closets because I prioritize func tionality. You do not have to wear a million different outfits, you can bring minimal amounts of clothes that you can dress up and dress down.  This way you reduce what you own or travel with because you can wear core pieces multiple times.

OUR TOWN LOCAL SERVICES get several vendors aside from MILK so customers can shop different styles. Our website has ten clothing lines right now, and I offer delivery within a 15-mile radius in Chattanooga. So far, we have shipped all over. From New Mexico to Pennsylvania and even to China.  With regard to the styling, I do editorial styling and personal styling. Editorial styl ing ranges from business to senior photos. Personal styling is a lot of closet reorgani zation, packing suitcases for travel, closet minimization, and personal shopping. Why is having a personal stylist valuable?

It's very rewarding to help my clients get the most out of their wardrobes. Personal styling allows me to get more involved with each client and offer styling help that is unique and individualized to each person.

WHAT WAS THE PROCESS LIKE GETTING STYLED ON AMERICAN IDOL?

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL STYLE. My personal style is about the sparkles! I love a good sparkle. It’s funny. When I made it to the Top 24 on the show, I was wearing a sparkly dress my mama bought me, and I told them I didn’t know if I was going to make it or not, but whatever happened I wanted to go out sparkling. I also love boots; boots are my guilty pleasure. I have tons of them, my closet is full! I usually don’t leave the house unless I’m in boots. But really anything that makes me feel good, that’s what I wear.

while on the show with people who really understood me as a person, that was the coolest part of getting styled. I talked to them about people I looked up to and about my own sense of style—the country western look. I loved getting to come in and look at different options and try things on. I had never experienced anything like that! I was like, this is so cool! They were really kind to me, and really took what I loved and brought it to the stage. I always dressed according to the song I was singing. If it was a tougher song, I wore leather and fringe and my black boots. When I sang “Baby Girl” by Sugarland, I wore what I would wear in Nashville—a fringe jacket and boots. I think every song has a different feeling and meaning, and if you can pour your style into every song that you sing, it helps the audience connect with you.

This month, Chattanooga City Lifestyle took a road trip to Nashville to catch up with American Idol runner-up, HunterGirl. HunterGirl (who got her nickname when peo ple in her hometown of Winchester, TN had trouble saying her last name, Wolkonowski) made Idol history by being the show’s first Platinum Ticket recipient, and ultimately made it to the finale along with winner Noah Thompson. A singer-songwriter at heart, HunterGirl impressed the judges week after week, and captured the hearts of country music fans in the process. We caught up with her during a busy week in Nashville as she prepared to perform at Whiskey Jam with other Idol alum, and right before she hit the road to perform a whirlwind of shows from Pennsylvania to Alabama.  Amidst all the excitement and chaos, HunterGirl is just as down-to-earth as you would want her to be.  She is kind, thoughtful, and silly. She seems to know how precious this opportunity is, and she is settling in for what will be much longer than fifteen minutes of fame. We talked to her about her style influ ences, her experiences on American Idol, and what the future holds as she chases her dreams.

I dressed myself up until the live shows, then that’s when they started helping me pick my looks. Developing my sense of style

BACK STAGE | STYLE + BEAUTY24

I grew up looking up to Dolly Parton. She was always sparkling, wearing fringe, and she had the boots. You know, in my everyday life I wear t-shirts, but when I get on stage, it’s kind of like putting armor on. I loved the ladies on the show who were helping dress me. They did a great job taking what I love and my sense of style and bringing that out to the stage.  My mama dressed me since I was young, and she’s a huge influ ence on what I wear on stage. Usually before a show, we would go out and look for things together, so she has always been a huge inspira tion for me helping me figure out my sense of style. I think style is so interesting because it’s the first thing people see when you go on stage. The audience sees you and can guess what kind of song you’re going to sing and what kind of artist you are. The clothes you wear tell a story before you even start the song, which I think is so special.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE COMING MONTHS?

I hit the ground running right when I got off the plane from American Idol! I got back and started writing again, and I’ve been playing shows non-stop. I am working on new music, and I’m going to be playing shows coming up, and I’m just so happy! I have wanted to do music my entire life, and this experience has been life-chang ing. There’s been a lot of full-circle moments, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
