September - Style & Hottest Trends
Hello Everyone,
I want to take a moment to celebrate and explore the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.
Style is deeply personal. And it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, our passions, and our desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, as it enables us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.
As individuals, we have the freedom to embrace established styles, blend them together, or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. We hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in our towns to uplift our spirits, boost your productivity and ignite your creativity.
What I’ve found is that the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And that’s something no one on earth can duplicate.
Remember, if you have interesting, fun, and meaningful stories to share or are a business looking to grow within our local communities and the surrounding areas, we would love to hear from you. Contact John.Meyer@citylifestyle.com for advertising opportunities and Ana.Meyer@citylifestyle.com for editorials or call us at 973-944-1440.
Here’s to being uniquely you!
We look forward to seeing you around town!

THE INSTANT WHOLE-HOME MAKEOVER
ARTICLE BY BEN MEYER | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Why Interior Doors Are the Upgrade You Didn’t Know You Needed
If you’re craving a fresh, modern update for your home but aren’t ready for a fullblown renovation, here’s a design secret that delivers maximum impact with minimal disruption: upgrade your interior doors. Interior doors are often overlooked, but they have the power to transform the look and feel of your entire home—instantly. And with One Day Doors & Closets of North Jersey, you can achieve a stunning, wholehome makeover in just one day.
The most popular style leading today’s interior design trend is the white shaker panel door. Clean, classic, and incredibly versatile, shaker doors date back to the 18th-century Shaker community, known for their emphasis on simplicity, function, and fine craftsmanship. Their understated design and symmetrical lines make them the perfect match for nearly every décor style—from transitional and modern farmhouse to contemporary and minimalist.
“The white shaker door is more than a trend—it’s timeless. It creates harmony in the home while leaving room for personal expression,” says architect Vincent Ayo Shaker doors pair beautifully with today’s modern shaker kitchen cabinets, helping to create a unified and polished look throughout your space. But not all door
upgrades are created equal. Many homeowners who turn to big box stores are surprised to discover that their new doors will arrive and be installed unfinished—meaning they must be painted. Homeowners will need to hire a painter who will need to remove the newly installed doors and the hardware to paint the door. Then after drying, each door will need to have the hardware reinstalled and the door rehung again. Since each door opening is unique to its frame, a carpenter typically takes 4 to 6 hours to install one door. That’s a lot of trades, time, mess and coordination for what should be a simple home update.
That’s where One Day Doors & Closets of North Jersey stands out. As the largest interior door company in the country, they’ve redefined the installation process with their proprietary 3D measuring technology. This advanced system scans every doorway in your home to custom-manufacture doors to the accuracy of 1/1000 of an inch. Each door is factory-finished with premium paint and installed in just one day—no sawdust, no painting, and no weeks of contractors coming in and out of your home.
“It’s one of the smartest design solutions available today,” Ayo adds. “It modernizes a home instantly, without the chaos of a traditional remodel.”
And the style choices? Gorgeous and flexible with over 34 door styles to choose from. In addition to the classic white shaker, One Day Doors & Closets offers shaker doors with a variety of functional and stylish inserts. For bedrooms closets, a mirrored shaker, frosted or reeded glass for privacy, clear glass for open spaces, and even a three-panel shaker with frosted glass elegant inserts. These doors not only elevate your space but also help set the tone for your entire home’s interior design.
“A home’s doors quietly define the design language,” says Ayo. “When you choose the right style, everything else falls into place.”
So whether you want to refresh dated spaces, increase your home’s resale value, or simply fall in love with where you live again, this is one change that makes an immediate impact. With One Day Doors & Closets of North Jersey, the solution is simple: high style, expert precision, and a complete transformation—in just one day.

THE ART OF LIVING
How Wentworth Gallery Transforms Interiors into Personal Masterpieces
For over 35 years, the Wentworth Gallery in The Mall at Short Hills has been a destination for those looking to make a statement—not just in art, but in style. At the helm is Gallery Director Maryanne Fralinger, a lifelong creative whose passion for fine art and design makes her a trusted partner to homeowners and interior designers alike. “Art doesn’t follow style,” notes. “It defines it.”
Fralinger began her career as a commercial illustrator and industrial designer before stepping into the gallery world 22 years ago. What was meant to be a six-month experiment turned into a career that bridges her love of aesthetics and human connection. “When you add art to a room,” she explains, “you’re not just decorating—you’re telling your story.”
At Wentworth Gallery, that story begins with exploration. Fralinger encourages first-time collectors to wander through the gallery and simply notice what they’re drawn to. “People respond to art instinctively,” she observes. “Your home should be filled with pieces that you love looking at—art you fall more in love with every day.”
In a world of Pinterest boards and showroom furniture, it’s the artwork that brings individuality and soul into a space. Whether you’re furnishing a serene retreat or a bold entertaining space, Fralinger recommends choosing a
single inspiring piece and designing the room around it. “I see art as the personality of the space,” she says. “It sets the tone—vibrant and energetic, or calm and elegant.” Wentworth offers more than just inspiration. It offers personalized guidance. Clients can bring in photos of their rooms, fabrics, or finishes, and work with consultants to select pieces that reflect both their style and scale. The gallery even offers “home shows,” where artwork is delivered for real-life viewing before final decisions are made. “It’s amazing what happens when the art is in the home,” Fralinger shares. “Sometimes the piece is perfect. And if it’s not, we’ve learned more about the space and can better guide the next step.”
Fralinger is quick to point out that great design sometimes comes from unexpected pairings. A modern abstract in a traditional room, or a classic piece with a contemporary frame, can elevate a space from polished to unforgettable. “Art doesn’t have to match,” she explains. “It has to move you.” She recalls installations where art was stacked vertically beside a fireplace to draw the eye upward or hung in an entryway to mirror a sweeping staircase. “These are the choices that make a home feel truly designed, not just furnished.”
The Short Hills community has long embraced Wentworth as a cultural fixture. “We’ve become like family to many of our collectors,” Fralinger adds. “Some of them have been with us for decades.” She also frequently works with interior designers, either in direct consultation or in tandem with their clients. “We complement their furnishing choices with fine art expertise. In the end, the space should reflect the client, not the designer or the consultant.”
Wentworth’s collection includes a wide range of world-renowned artists—from pop icons like Peter Max and Paul Stanley to contemporary visionaries like Michael Godard. But the philosophy remains simple: art should be collected for the joy it brings. “There’s no wrong choice in art,” Fralinger adds. “If it speaks to you, it’s right.” Whether you’re designing a home, an office, or simply looking to fall in love with something beautiful, Wentworth Gallery welcomes you to stop in. “We want people to come in, take their time, and enjoy the experience,” Fralinger points out. “This isn’t just about filling walls—it’s about creating a space that feels like you.”
Wentworth Gallery is located inside The Mall at Short Hills. To view the current collection or schedule a consultation, visit www.wentworthgallery.com or follow @WentworthGalleryShortHills on Instagram.
A SALON THAT SHINES
Catering to so much more than just beautiful hair
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI
PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHRIS JORDA PHOTOGRAPHY
GLAZE Salon in Chatham has a reputation as an upscale salon, and it’s no wonder. It takes its motto, “Beautiful Hair is Just the Beginning,” very seriously.
With its wide range of stylists catering to every age and personality, as well as top-of-the-line products, curated merchandise, greeting cards, and complimentary gift wrapping, clients love spending time in the salon. Of course, the mimosas, bellinis, and incredible cappuccinos are a big treat too!
The salon has recently brought in Eric, a new stylist specializing in hair extension techniques. “Extensions can be for more than just length and volume,” he says. “They can help manipulate your color, add weight to control frizz, or just to try a new look.”
Cindi agrees, “Extensions are great for so many things. We can add them in for an instant highlighter without having to undergo any chemical processes. I have a lady who comes in and changes her extensions all the time. She loves changing her look with extensions.”
While some clients prefer the more tried-and-true classic styles, others seek what’s trending, so all of the stylists stay up-to-date on industry developments. Currently, long bobs are in style, and while they can be worn straight, many women prefer adding some beachy waves and even some sun-kissed highlights.
In addition to being a special place for clients, the salon is also a highly desired place to work. “GLAZE is a happy and friendly environment, and everyone is like family,” says stylist, Vanessa.
Cindi is always looking for new talent who would be an excellent fit for the salon’s upscale and friendly vibe, and she prides herself on its welcoming staff and its commitment to keeping things fresh. The new manager, Maria Santiago, is a perfect addition. An experienced hair stylist who owned her own salon, she has a lot of great ideas to make GLAZE even better.
“She’s just so talented,” says Cindi. “Her mantra is ‘I didn’t choose hairdressing, hairdressing chose me.’ She already knows many of my stylists, and she’s been very well received.” Maria is a big fan of Kérastase, a luxury brand from Paris, so Cindi has brought in its entire line of products.
Along with Maria, Desarie Diana was hired as the new assistant front desk manager. “She has an amazing, upbeat personality and comes with many years of experience.”
Just as important to the salon’s atmosphere is its front desk staff, who warmly greet clients and offer beverages. It could be a cappuccino, a seltzer, or, if it’s later in the day, a mimosa, bellini, a glass of wine, or a beer. It’s all about ‘Relationship Before Task,’” explains Cindi. “These extras make people feel special.”
Stop into GLAZE Salon’s welcoming atmosphere and discover your own beautiful style. While there, pick up some fabulous hair products and/or a unique gift for yourself or someone else.
“We just keep getting better and better,” says Cindi.

A Race That Runs on Heart
Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce, Millburn’s 44th Annual President’s Cup 5K Race
On a hot and sticky summer evening, the streets of Millburn transformed into a celebration of sweat, spirit, and small-town unity. The 44th Annual President’s Cup 5K Race, held Monday, June 23, 2025, was more than just a footrace—it was a glowing testament to the power of community.
Hosted by the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce, this beloved tradition welcomed over 800 runners and their families to town. From the littlest dashers in the Kids’ Fun Run at 7:30 PM to the seasoned racers at the 8 PM 5K start, the event radiated energy, joy, and a shared commitment to making memories.
“It takes a village to host a town-wide event for over 800 runners,” said Ana Meyer, Chamber President. “This race is a shining example of what happens when volunteers, our town, and our sponsors come together to create something special .”
And what a village it was.
From the Millburn Police, DPW, EMTs and Fire Department, to the Mayor, residents, and chamber of commerce board members— everyone played a role. Mayor Romano, joined Ana Meyer to welcome everyone at the starting line. “This race is Millburn,” she said. “It’s not just a run, it’s our heartbeat. I’ve watched my children race, and I’ve run water stations with Girl Scouts.”

Volunteers made it magical. Chamber board members Julia Cheng, (evivespas.com), Elvira Chaus (New York Life) John and Ana Meyer (Chatham + Short Hills City Lifestyle), along with their families, worked all night long. Samir Patel, (bluecodenetworks.com), helped oversee the beer garden and was among the last to leave, helping pack up well after the music faded.
Heartfelt commitment pulsed through every street corner. Signature Realty Short Hills volunteers served over 800 slices of pizza, while the Millburn Short Hills Chinese Association was first to arrive at the volunteer table, and the Muslim Association of Millburn Short Hills stepped in with their signature hospitality and care.
“The energy from the runners is infectious,” said longtime race supporter Gary of Peerless Beverage, who shared, “I see the same faces every year—for 20 years! These runners don’t just come for the race, they come for the experience.”
Millburn Short Hills Chamber of Commerce 44th annual Presidents Cup 5K Race
This year’s race introduced thoughtful new touches, the first hosting the relayproject.org, a nonprofit organization that collects gently used sneakers and donates them to charity and the second, the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber volunteer hour certificates for high school students, encouraging the next generation to give back.
As the sun set, Municipal Lot 19 lit up with an after-party—music, pizza, a beer garden, vendors, product samples, giveaways, and a crowd of runners beaming with accomplishment.
Even the medals told a story. Designed to honor Millburn’s signature town clock, they were a symbol of time well spent and tradition carried forward. The kids’ fun run was a crowd favorite—tiny legs sprinting with delight, each child rewarded with a medal and a memory to last a lifetime.
A profound thank you goes to every sponsor, especially Platinum Sponsor Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, for elevating this event with their generous support.
“I encourage everyone to volunteer. The energy is infectious — it’s not just a race, it’s a celebration of our community. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the sponsors, to the Township and the Chamber, and to you, Ana, for doing an outstanding job organizing this year’s race”, shared Mayor Romano.
As Ana Meyer reflected: “If you could see this race through my eyes, you’d see true care for our community. Every volunteer, every cheer, every detail—it all added up to a night where guests felt welcomed, and had a great time.”
Until next year—ready, set, go Millburn!
