March - Home and Design

Home. So much contained in that little four-letter word. Home is our grounding. Our base. Our launchpad. It’s where we start and end each day. And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and value it holds for all of us is undeniable.

Author Wendy Wunder said, “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.” As we thought about home - we wanted to highlight what makes it special to our readers. That of course includes the aesthetic and design, but most importantly - the people.

In this issue you’ll be inspired by General Plumbing Supply’s latest innovations in plumbing fixtures, backyard oasis designed and installed by the Pool Boss  and discover how working with MACMOM Organizer, a professional organizer can help you be in harmony with your home or business.

As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you’ll feel encouraged and connected to the people around you - in your town, neighborhood and most of all, your home.

Every month, we hear from readers who keep this magazine for longer than just the month noted on the cover. They hold onto our issues for months on their coffee or kitchen table art at home. We feel proud to create a resource that is valued in our community and strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thanks for letting us be a part of your home.

If you’re looking to grow your business, brand, product or service and would to advertise with us or have local stories to share, reach out to Ana.Meyer@ citylifestyle.com or call us at 973-944-1440.

We look forward to seeing you around town!

Happy March!

TAKE A VACATION IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Luxury outdoor

living spaces bring family and friends together

The desire for outdoor living spaces is huge. People have kitchens, firepits, and pergolas in their backyards, and that’s great, but there’s nothing like a pool to create that resort-like ambiance. “People want to feel like they’re on vacation, and having a pool does that,” says Terry Argenziano, COO of The Pool Boss.

A pool, she explains, often transforms a backyard into a true gathering space for family and friends. “It becomes the center point of the backyard, whether it’s the kids playing in the pool or a mom and dad sitting around it with a cocktail in their hands.”

With over 25 years in the industry, The Pool Boss offers a full concierge experience, handling everything from the initial design to the incredible finished product. Christopher Argenziano, Terry’s husband and the CEO and founder of the company, is a third-generation pool builder who takes his responsibility to his clients seriously. “He revisits the site once the final details are completed and gathers feedback from the homeowner in regard to the process and performance of the team,” says Terry. “Even though our online presence and reviews are very strong when it comes to customer satisfaction, our philosophy is to be proactive and not reactive. We can

only stay on top and keep our clients as happy as possible if we’re constantly assessing how we’re doing.”

Another advantage of working with the Pool Boss is its vast network of skilled contractors that can build all those extras around the pool such as fire bowls, fire pits, pavilions, kitchens, and more to create that complete luxury outdoor living area.

The company always goes above and beyond. For example, once a pool is constructed, a service manager goes out and teaches a homeowner how to operate it. “We usually do a twohour course where we teach them everything they need to know.” A manual, website and QR codes for helpful videos are also provided.

However, just like being on vacation, homeowners can enjoy the luxury of a pool without all the work. “We offer what we call valet service,” says Terry. “If you hire us to build your pool, you can then have us do everything to maintain it. But, it’s á la carte, so we can do as much or as little as you prefer. We have about 200 clients that don’t do anything except swim, while others actually enjoy doing some of the pool maintenance.”

Terry and Chris understand what having a pool is all about, and have always had one in their own backyards. They also have small children and know some parents worry about safety. “We can install automatic covers, so for those with children and pets, we usually advise keeping them closed when the pool is not in use,” she says.

Since Covid, having a pool does add an appreciable amount of equity and desirability to a home. “When you look at online real estate listings, if there’s a pool, it’s usually the first photo,” says Terry.

While the couple has designed and built many luxury projects for well-known celebrities, they also appreciate that every homeowner has their own budget. So, there are many options available and pricing is very competitive.

Don’t just wish for an incredible retreat in your own backyard – explore your options now. For more information, and to see some of the extraordinary luxury outdoor areas the company has created, go to ThePoolBossNJ.com or @ThePoolBossNJ.

Marisa Smith, Founder MACMOM Organizing

When Marisa Smith founded MACMOM Organizing in 2020, she was no stranger to chaos—just ask her three daughters, Morgan, Amanda, and Charlotte, the inspiration behind the company’s name. After a decade in oncology clinical research and taking time off to raise her family, Marisa found her calling in organizing. What started as a solo venture with one client has blossomed into a thriving business, complete with a team of six organizers tackling everything from messy pantries to concierge moving projects.

“My personal journey taught me the value of simplifying life through systems,” Marisa shares. “Now, I bring that same purpose to every project.”

TACKLING CLUTTER

Overconsumption and lack of space are the most common challenges Marisa encounters. “Before organizing, we edit,” she explains. “You can’t shop in bulk if you don’t have room to store backstock.” Her philosophy? Buy for the space you have—not the one you wish you had.

Marisa’s approach combines practicality with an eye for design. “I want systems to be functional but also beautiful and easy to maintain,” she says. This passion for aesthetics even earned her a spot as a designer for Mansion in May 2025, benefitting the new Proton Therapy Center at Morristown Medical Center—a meaningful cause given her background in cancer research.

EMOTIONAL CLUTTER

For many, the process of decluttering is emotional. Marisa and her team guide clients with empathy and patience, asking questions like, “Do you use this? Do you love it? Do you need it?” By breaking projects into manageable steps and creating a no-pressure environment, clients feel empowered to let go and transform their spaces.

BUSINESS BENEFITS

For business owners, a well-organized workspace is a game-changer. Marisa explains, “Clutter-free spaces enhance focus, productivity, and morale. When everything has a place, you reduce stress and distractions.”

THE MAGIC OF TRANSFORMATION

Marisa recalls helping a family downsize remotely under tight deadlines. From decluttering and packing to coordinating vendors, her team managed the move seamlessly. “They told us they felt lighter, like they could finally breathe,” she says.

QUICK TIPS FOR ORDER

Marisa’s advice for starting today:

1. Use the “One In, One Out” rule.

2. Label everything.

3. Declutter one small space at a time for quick wins.

As the In-Home Organizing Partner for The Container Store in Livingston and Bridgewater, Marisa’s partnership ensures premium solutions for every project. Clients are often surprised by how transformative organizing can be—not just for their spaces but for their peace of mind.

For Marisa, it’s more than a job; it’s a mission to create harmony, one space at a time. Visit www.macmomorganizing.com

President Justin Freedman unveils GPS’s offerings, from traditional designs to cutting-edge digital innovations.

In the heart of home design evolution, kitchens and baths take center stage, with General Plumbing Supply (GPS) leading the charge into the future. As a family-owned and operated business thriving for over a century, GPS continues to set the bar higher. We caught up with President Justin Freedman to

GPS Morris Plains Showroom
“We stay on top of what customers want.”

get an exclusive insight into the latest trends shaping our daily oasis experiences.

With 24 locations across New Jersey and New York, from their oldest in Bayonne dating back to 1910 to their standout Morris Plains showroom, GPS has expanded its footprint. The buzz? A brand-new KOHLER Signature Store in Summit, a haven for those seeking the epitome of kitchen and bath sophistication.

Diving into the heart of GPS offerings, it’s not just about plumbing fixtures—it’s a comprehensive experience. From cabinetry and vanities to lighting (and tile at their four Kohler Stores), GPS has become a one-stop destination for consumers, contractors, builders, and developers. The secret sauce? Quality products coupled with personalized customer service and expert designers ready to elevate your projects. The Morris Plains showroom boasts a strong kitchen cabinetry department with experienced

kitchen designers specializing in computer-aided design, offering brands like Wellborn, Kraftmaid, and StarMark Cabinetry.

Adding to its appeal, GPS Showrooms feature all of the best brands in the industry, including Kohler, Moen, Delta, Elkay, and Hansgrohe. These industry-leading brands ensure that customers have access to high-quality, durable, and stylish fixtures for any project.

Justin Freedman sheds light on the prevailing trends. “A leading trend in the industry is a return to transitional and even traditional designs. Not everyone wants a total gut-out. Many want to find something that fits in their traditional bathroom. Transitional finishes like brushed brass and titanium are also trending. Our manufacturers have extended most finishes in their product families, and we offer thousands of choices.”

Innovations are revolutionizing the shower experience through mechanical and digital valving,

Freedman emphasizes. Working showers in some GPS showrooms provide customers with firsthand experience of the digital showering revolution. “We stay on top of what customers want.”

Summit, their newest location, promises more than just plumbing fixtures. Renowned designer Shea McGee’s products are in stock and on display, adding a touch of sophistication to the already impressive offerings.

“Wellness is trending,” notes Freedman, linking wellness and steam to a robust immune system. Our Mr. Steam showers have many benefits, including stress relief, improved sleep, and better skin health. They can also help with muscle recovery and joint pain.

Organization is another key trend, with GPS offering everything from builder-grade to semi-custom cabinetry to help you stay organized.

To fuel these trends, GPS boasts one of the largest inventories of decorative plumbing supplies in the country, in stock at their showrooms and their colossal 300,000-square-foot distribution center in Piscataway. Their extensive stock ensures next-day delivery to bring your dream project to life. The Piscataway location also hosts the largest showroom, a design haven filled with plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, lighting, and countertops. Complemented by a fleet of over 100 trucks covering New Jersey and New York daily, GPS ensures efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Embark on your project journey with confidence at General Plumbing Supply. Whether a dream in the making or already underway, GPS promises to deliver precisely what you need. Visit https://generalplumbingsupply.net/ and www.kohlerbygps.com to learn more.

RED HOT SHOW!

MEET A DRUMMER WHO TRANSLATES HIS MUSICAL TALENT ONTO CANVAS

Most people know Chad Smith as the drummer with the multi-Grammy award-winning band and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Red Hot Chili Peppers. But, his range as an artist extends way beyond music to paintings dubbed “rhythmic expressionism.”

“His artwork is a direct visual translation of his drumming process to canvas,” says Wentworth Gallery director, Maryanne Fralinger. By working with a company that takes digital photographs of musicians playing with neon-colored instruments - in his case, drumsticks - in a dark room, Smith was able to capture the waves of motion of his drumsticks. “He selects the colors of the drumsticks, the song, the speed and the intensity that he wants. As he’s drumming, swirls of color are created that really convey his emotions right onto the image.”

Once these images were created, he transferred them to canvas and incorporated his own unique stamp. “He added in acrylic paint to intensify them and broaden the CONTINUED >

colors and went with bright, explosive, bold combinations,” she says. “He felt that that would really communicate the actual power of the drumming and the sound and the music to more authentically show who he is as a drummer and as a visual artist.”

Wentworth Gallery has represented many musical artists over the years including drummer Rick Allen from Def Leppard, legendary solo guitarist Joe Satriani, and Paul Stanley, the lead singer of Kiss. “We really focus on trying to make that personal connection by bringing the artists into our different locations so it’s not just about buying a piece to decorate your home, but instead it’s a whole experience of meeting and learning about that artist and making them a personal part of your life,” says Maryanne.

They’re excited to host a show of Smith’s artwork in their Short Hills location on March 1, where collector’s acquiring artwork can meet him, discuss his extraordinary creations, and be photographed with him and their new art!

People come from all over to attend these artists’ meets and if for some reason they can’t make it, Wentworth can ship any piece to one of their five locations in the United States or anywhere else in the country. They can also ship around the world.

Of course, the gallery represents many other artists as well. “People can walk in every day and see something new with our constantly changing collection,” she says.

To meet Chad Smith or one of your other favorite artists, check out the gallery’s list of upcoming events online and also view their wide array of artwork.

Chad Smith

In addition to being the renowned drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chad Smith has worked with an extraordinary assortment of artists including Ozzy Osbourne, Johnny Cash, Eddie Vedder, Kid Rock, Joe Satriani, and Post Malone. Now, he’s also a visual artist who wants to portray the emotion, fluidity and intensity he experiences while drumming.

Smith also loves sharing his passion for music and art with others, especially young people. He's lobbied to make sure arts and music programs stay in schools because he believes that kids don't necessarily know what their skills are until they're given the opportunities to find out. Without these programs, he feels that the world may miss out on future amazing and talented artists.
