Gather Here with Grateful Hearts

![]()

In this season of giving thanks, we often find ourselves reflecting on the many blessings in our lives. The true spirit of Thanksgiving encourages the conscious expression of gratitude. Its focus is spending time with those that you love and encourages giving back in a meaningful way. While ambition, competition and slaying goals can be very healthy, forgetting to place importance on being present, enjoying the ride and appreciating those around us that have helped us along in our journey, can leave us missing out on what truly matters. We’ll never be content if we look outside ourselves to determine if we are fulfilled. True contentment comes from within and from fulfilling who we were made to be.
Our November issue is dedicated to stories of gathering, gratefulness and giving back to our community. We are so thankful for the residents and businesses in our community who support so many wonderful organizations and help make our city the vibrant community that it is. We are especially thankful for our advertising partners who help bring this magazine to your doorsteps each month. They are part of our vision and purpose of bringing inspiring stories and the good news of the community directly to you.
Inside this issue, hear from Scott Snellings of Snellings Law about the gratitude and impact of true friendship in his life. We also learn about who Celina's newest school, Bothwell Elementary, is named for and her impact on our community. And finally, our partner Lori Vaden West shares her misson trip and how meaningful it was to her.
This holiday season, as we prepare to gather with our loved ones, and in the true spirit of thanksgiving, let’s set time aside to consider what truly makes life meaningful and stop to reflect on those blessings.
Blessings to you and your family. We'll see you around town!

SCOTT SNELLINGS OF SNELLINGS LAW RECEIVES LIFE-SAVING GIFT FROM A FRIEND

Randy Newman sings it well in his song from the movie Toy Story, “…There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you. We stick together and we see it through. ‘Cause you’ve got a friend in me.”
When Scott Snellings met Jacob Thompson his freshman year at Baylor
kidneys in the meantime, and if a donor would be available when the time came. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, as of February 2023, 88,658 people were on the waiting list for a kidney transplant in the United States.
“THE WAY YOU REPAY FOR A GIFT LIKE THAT IS NOT MONEY OR GIFTS. INSTEAD, YOU LIVE EACH AND EVERY DAY TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL AND FULL OF JOY REGARDLESS OF CIRCUMSTANCES, KNOWING THAT’S WHAT MAKES EACH DAY POSSIBLE.”
University, he had little idea how true those words could be. While they quickly became best friends during their years in college, their relationship continued later in life, each serving as groomsmen in the other’s wedding. Scott even named his son Jacob. It wouldn’t be until much later that the true depth of their friendship would reveal itself.
As previously featured in Celina Lifestyle and Texoma City Lifestyle, Scott Snellings (SnellingsInjuryLaw. com) experienced a transformative event in 2008. He had been practicing law for some time and began encountering significant health problems which required powerful medications. Unfortunately, those medications severely damaged his kidneys. His physician informed Scott he would need a kidney transplant at some point.
This life-changing news was difficult for Scott and his family as he faced the unknown of when this transplant would be needed, how best to care for his
That time came in 2017. “My doctor told me it was time for the transplant and to ask everyone and anyone if they would test,” notes Scott. “By far, it was the hardest thing I have ever done. I am not that person who typically asks others for help,” he continued. Scott believed God was speaking to him loud and clear. “I put my ego aside and asked everyone I knew,” he responded. He considered it his duty to his three kids and wife to do everything to find a kidney donor.
In addition to finding a blood match, a person must be medically compatible and extremely healthy, able to function with one kidney. Transplants often come from donors that have passed away since the criteria for live donors are so substantial.
Thankfully, Scott had two matches: his Father-in-Law and his best friend, Jacob Thompson. “It brought me to tears that people would do this for me,” Scott recalled. After the doctors chose Jacob (since he was younger),

he underwent months of additional tests, not easy since Jacob lives in Oklahoma. “That shows even more what kind of friend he is,” Scott mentions.
On Halloween 2017, Jacob donated his kidney to his best friend. Scott jokes it was “Frankensteinesque” but nothing like a horror show. Jacob's wife, who was eight months pregnant, Jacob, Scott, and their families prayed before the surgery. Scott recalls feeling a sense of peace that all was going to be ok regardless of the surgical outcome. After a successful surgery, both recovered on the same floor including daily laps walking around the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) floor.
When asked why Jacob chose to help, Scott immediately said, “Jacob is a giver. He served in the military, he serves in his church, and he has always put others before himself. If Jacob was going to offer a kidney, no one was surprised. Faith, family, and friendship are everything to him,” he continued.
For seven years the Snellings and Thompson families have celebrated the “donation anniversary” traveling everywhere from Tulsa to Tuscany. Scott says, “It is a great way to celebrate and be thankful” for a true unmeasured gift.
“The way you repay for a gift like that is not money or gifts. Instead, you live each and every day to its full potential and full of joy regardless of circumstances, knowing that’s what makes each day possible,” Scott emotionally explains.
Scott Snellings owns Snellings Law with offices in Sherman, Frisco, and Dallas. He and his family live in Celina. Scott is training for his first marathon this fall and is scheduled to run the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington, D.C. thanks to his best friend's life-saving gift.

Experience Bothwell Heritage In New Elementary School In Celina
When Celina Independent School District (CISD) had the task to name its new elementary school, numerous names were nominated. In fact, according to CISD, there were over sixty names submitted to the naming committee. While all were deserving, the committee knew there was only one choice: Tommie Dobie Bothwell.
The new elementary school, located in the Cambridge Crossing neighborhood and the Dobie Family farmland, was home to Tommie Jean Dobie Bothwell literally since her birth. When Tommie was an infant, her father passed away leaving Tommie’s mother to raise her and her two sisters alone, plus manage the farm. Tommie attended school in Celina sometimes arriving to school on a buggy.
Tommie attended college at North Texas State Teacher’s College (now University of North Texas) and after graduation started teaching at Good Hope School in Prosper. She lived with other teachers in a home near the Bothwell family farm, where she met her future husband, Sam Bothwell. They married shortly thereafter and had one daughter, Sammie.
Unfortunately, after seven years of marriage, her husband passed away. As a single widowed mother, Tommie moved back to the Dobie Farm and started teaching in Aubrey. She also went back to school to earn a master’s degree in education.
After only six weeks in Aubrey, Celina had an immediate opening for a first-grade teacher providing an opportunity for Tommie to return home. She became a first and second grade teacher in Celina where she would loyally remain for over thirty-five years.
backward to not be partial to me, so much so that I never got to be a leader like holding the flag or directing the Pledge of Allegiance.”
Tommie Bothwell’s impact is well known. Jane Huddleston, a prominent member of Celina’s community, was also a student of Mrs. Bothwell as well as a longtime friend of Sammie Carey. Mrs. Huddleston remembers how Mrs. Bothwell was ahead of her time as an educator. “When I think about Mrs. Bothwell, she knew how to recognize learning differences before there was testing and other methods to identify these problems,” said Jane. “If there was a student with a hearing problem, for example, she had a way to spot it and the instinct to know how to accommodate those students. She just knew how to help those students with needs,” she continued. Education did not catch up to this technique and method for decades to come. Jane also recalls fondly, “Mrs. Bothwell always had a smile, but you also knew when she was serious.”
For years, Mrs. Bothwell would boast about the greatness of her students. Sammie said, “Mom was crazy about her pupils.” Like clockwork each new school year, Sammie states that Mrs. Bothwell “would tell my grandmother, ‘Momma I’ve got the cutest little bunch this year.” The family would continually remind Mrs. Bothwell how she would say that every year.

Tommie Bothwell taught most of her years in the building that is now home to Celina ISD Administration. It is well known that Mrs. Bothwell influenced an endless number of students, spanning over multiple generations, including her own daughter.
Sammie Bothwell Carey had her mom as her first and second-grade teacher. She recalls, “I had to work hard to get good grades! She bent over
Tommie Bothwell taught in Celina ISD until 1978. As mentioned, she reached many generations of Celina families including the Huddleston family. Besides teaching Jane Huddleston, Mrs. Bothwell taught Jane’s son, Charles Ray Huddleston. Charles and Sherry Huddleston were many of the Celina residents who advocated for the new elementary school to be named after Tommie Bothwell. The couple was so passionate about the school’s name that they contacted Celina ISD in 2023 before a naming committee was even created!
Typically, when naming a new building for the school district, Celina ISD creates a Naming Committee who would research and ultimately
“We want the kids to know her story and how she loved kids and made kids want to come to school,” Aune said.
“Even though she is no longer with us, it is our mission to have the sense of community that Mrs. Bothwell delivered to Celina students.”
present several names for consideration to the school board members. For this elementary school, only one name was submitted, that being Tommie Bothwell.
The criterion for naming a school includes a citizen who graduated from Celina, possibly born in Celina, and/or taught in Celina. Tommie Bothwell, according to Jane Huddleston, was the only person that met every benchmark. Plus, she was born and raised on the land where the new school was to be built. Therefore, without question, Celina ISD bestowed the honor of naming the new school after Tommie Dobie Bothwell.
Kristen Aune, Bothwell Elementary Principal, understands the significance of this name to Celina. She comments, “Anyone you talk to in Celina that had her as a teacher loved her. Her method of teaching made special connections to her students like intentional efforts for social-emotional learning, something education is just now implementing in schools.”
Aune states it is a conscious effort to make sure the students know the legacy of Tommie Bothwell. “We want the kids to know her story and how she loved kids and made kids want to come to school,” Aune said. “Even though she is no longer with us, it is our mission to have the sense of community that Mrs. Bothwell delivered to Celina students.”
To fulfill that mission continuing the community theme, Bothwell teachers and administration conducted “porch visits” for every single student attending the new school. “We did it from the very beginning and didn’t skip one single house or kid,” asserts Principal Aune. “We feel like that she would have loved that and would have wanted to be a part of that in the community because she was so involved in the community,” Aune continued.
Bothwell Elementary has special features providing the students with a sense of community including collaboration places and a “house system” allowing for students to know teachers, and other kids in multiple grades and giving all involved a communal feeling, another way to honor Tommie Bothwell.
To educate pupils on Tommie Bothwell, the school has many personal items donated by the Bothwell family. Those include family pictures, school pictures of Mrs. Bothwell and her classes, plus a yearbook belonging to Tommie. Paintings of the Dobie Farm as well as paintings created by Mrs. Bothwell are
also displayed. Perhaps the most special addition is a quilt of drawings with each square created by her last class of students in 1978. This blanket was ultimately quilted by Sammie Bothwell Carey, honoring her mother’s memory, now hanging proudly at her mother’s namesake school.
Tommie Bothwell passed away at the age of 99 in 2011. Besides serving Celina ISD for thirty-five years, she was also an active member of Celina. She was an elder at the Presbyterian Church, and a member of Fidelis Inter Se of Celina. Her daughter, Sammie, lives in Prosper. Tommie Bothwell also had three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
The legacy of Tommie Bothwell will live on not only through her family but also the thirty-five years of her student family. Moreover, a new generation of students will experience her heritage by attending Celina’s newest school, Tommie Dobie Bothwell Elementary. Kudos to Celina for creating a lasting and deserving honor for a woman who gave so much to so many.

Foundation Honors The Life Of Hometown Football And Baseball Legend Adam Harvey
PROVIDED

A new foundation established in September 2024 seeks to honor the life of hometown football and baseball legend Adam Harvey. The Adam Harvey Baseball Foundation strives to aid baseball athletes at Celina High School through bridging the financial gap for expensive equipment such as bats, gloves, and game balls. Foundation
Chairman and President Danny Stanphill says the executive board is working to “keep kids involved in the game by helping them pursue their baseball dreams” and to play unhindered by rising costs.
According to his mom, Janet Harvey, Adam was a skilled batter even at a young age. She recalls him making a big impression on high school kids at the batting cages as young as 6 years old. Adam Harvey began his sports career as a CHS freshman on varsity football and went on to help the Bobcats win four consecutive state championships. He was named the Most Valuable Player twice, and Adam was named Sonic Male Athlete of the year for 2002 along with being named Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 2001 Player of the Year. Although busy with football, Adam helped lead the Bobcats baseball team to four consecutive district championships and their first state championship and was named the MVP. He holds the records for the most homeruns (36) at Celina High School.
Declining a 32nd round pick offer by the Chicago Cubs and a football scholarship from Oklahoma State University, Adam played baseball for Grayson College and then transferred to New Mexico State to play for the Aggies. In his first appearance as designated hitter against Arizona State, he hit two homeruns and in 2005 he hit over .300 and had double digit home runs. He was selected second team all-conference in the WAC.
Mrs. Harvey recalls Adam “excelled so much in both sports and he had the biggest heart. Everybody loved Adam. He was Mr.
“Although busy with football, Adam helped lead the Bobcats baseball team to four consecutive district championships and their first state championship and was named the MVP. He holds the records for the most homeruns (36) at Celina High School.”
Social and friendly to everybody." Adam inspired teammates, friends, and family. His nephew Jackson plays baseball as a college freshman at Murray State and attributes his skills and progress to the personal attention Adam dedicated to working with him at the batting cages, and Jackson recognizes Adam’s consistent encouragement to pursue his baseball dreams. Jackson’s brother, Ryder, also follows in his uncle’s footsteps by playing baseball at Prosper High School.
A first initiative of the Adam Harvey Baseball Foundation was to award a scholarship to former Celina High School student Conner Rabbe who is involved in the baseball program at Odessa College. Conner is reported to be a student that the Celina community can be proud of and reflects Adam’s hard work, dedication, and love
for baseball. The Foundation Board collaborated with CHS Head Baseball Coach Troy McCartney to select Conner as the first recipient of the Adam Harvey Baseball Foundation Scholarship with the goal to support a student who is pursuing baseball in college and is working to fund their own tuition.
In the future, the Adam Harvey Baseball Foundation has big goals to expand its support of baseball athletes across all ages in the Celina community by building strong players from the youngest ages. Look for fundraising and investment opportunities on the soon-to-be-released website or contact Chairman/President Danny Stanphill at dannystanphill@ gmail.com and financial donations can be made now at Lamar National Bank for the “Adam Harvey Scholarship Fund."

EMPOWERING FAMILIES TO MAKE JESUS THEIR HIGHEST PRIORITY
ARTICLE BY HANNAH IRBY
Upon moving to a new city, what would you be looking for? Perhaps a new school for your kids? New friends? What about a community that can come together and uplift one another? Meet Legacy Hills Church - the uplifting community you have been looking for. Nestled inside Moore Middle School resides a message of faith, hope, love, community, and family. Legacy Hills Church is a one-year-old church plant that launched in August of 2023 and is led by Pastor Robert Welch. Lead Pastor Robert and his wife Kyla are native Texans and have been married for 21 years and, together, they have three children. Robert has been lead pastor for 18 years in Texas, Louisiana, and North Carolina. He and his family love the city of Celina and are passionate about making Jesus the highest priority. When asked how he would like to see Celina in the future, he mentioned, “As we grow, I would love for us to be a bright light in a world of darkness…this is a unique community that rallies around its school system, that rallies around the needs of others, and has that small town feel.”

you move. “Legacy Hills started with just two families,” Robert stated. One of Robert’s good college friends and family moved to Celina, fell in love with the city, and spoke highly of it. While Robert would visit his friend, Celina became a second home. Little did Robert know that while visiting his friend the Lord was up to something bigger and greater behind the scenes. Robert’s friend told him, “Our city is growing so fast, we need more churches…we have to have more churches to reach people and to meet the spiritual needs of the community”. After laughing it off, his friend looked at him and said, “Robert, what about you?” But Robert began to pray and seek the Lord more about it, and church planting was placed on Robert’s heart. In the winter of 2022, Robert and Kyla came to Celina to pray and explore more of the city, and they felt the Lord calling them to do this, and, in June of 2022, they moved to Celina. Legacy Hills started with a vision - a vision for families. Both families had a vision to plant a church that would reach the people of Celina then establish a ministry that would go further than just Celina.
Starting Legacy Hills was an act of faith for Robert, but he knew that when the Lord calls,
The mission of Legacy Hills Church is to “empower families to make Jesus the highest priority." Legacy Hills believes that God is the inventor of family. He invented families, and we are called to steward that well. Legacy Hills wants to help families make Jesus the highest priority and in that remind the people of Celina that Jesus helps navigate parenting, He helps us through the world that we live in, and when He is put first, He transforms the rest of our priorities. Legacy Hills wants to remind us Jesus gives our lives meaning.

Celina is a beautiful, vibrant city that is vastly growing and as the city continues to grow, businesses continue to thrive, and people continue to pour in, the spiritual growth of the people and city needs to grow as well. Amid everything that accommodates and meets the needs of the people in Celina, the spiritual well-being of our community needs to be continually met by the Biblical and family values of our city. Celina has high family values and with that comes sustaining those values and that can only be done with the help of Jesus.
Are you a new family in Celina? Come to Legacy Hills Church. Are you looking for an uplifting community? Come to Legacy Hills Church. Are you hoping that where you live will continue to sustain the values of faith, family, and love? Come to Legacy Hills Church. Legacy Hills hopes to reach families. They have a diverse audience of people and families who are ready to walk alongside you and your family.
Pastor Robert would like to say to the new homeowner, the new believer in Jesus, and the new family in Celina, “You are moving to a city that is rapidly growing. The vast majority of us who live here now have not been here very long. We are longing for community, we want to meet people, we want to know people, and what better place to do that than in a church." Legacy Hills is passionate about families, their well-being, and the Kingdom of God. Legacy Hills is not only creating a legacy for families but also for the generations to come.
Legacy Hills would love to have you, don’t hesitate to stop by! We encourage the people of Celina to not only find a home in Celina but also find a home in the local church and in Jesus!

Lori And Al West’s Mission And Passion For Serving The Indigenous People Of Panama
ARTICLE BY CHRISTINE CLARK PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF THE WEST FAMILY
Al West and his wife, local Compass realtor Lori Vaden West, have long supported local charities, including Helping Hands of Celina, North Texas Food Bank, the Alzheimer’s Association, and their church, First United Methodist in McKinney. However, after recently returning from their second trip to Panama, they now have a passion for the indigenous people of Panama.
The church and several others in the area have joined with Rev. David and Cindy Ceballos to share the love of Jesus Christ through impactful medical missions in remote regions of Panama. These missions make a significant difference and offer care and support to indigenous tribes in the most remote regions. Volunteers, including medical professionals, medical support volunteers, recreation leaders, and vacation bible school leaders, are instrumental in this mission. David serves as a church developer with the Evangelical Methodist Church of Panama (IEMPA), specifically in the area of Punta Delgadita, near Santiago de Veraguas, and Cynthia is a community health coordinator for a ministry linked to Punta Delgadita.

Al is a trauma surgeon, and their first trip in 2023 was primarily focused on medical treatment and running medical clinics for villages identified by the Ceballos. On this trip, the most significant need was dental work. With little preventative health education and resources, many villagers' teeth were in poor health and painful. Al quickly learned how to help speed up the treatment process by receiving training from the dentist on the team to prepare patients for procedures and apply local dental anesthesia. Lori found her calling to sit with patients, encourage them, and assure them they would be well cared for. She quickly learned enough spanish to say, “It will be ok,” and “Hold my hand.”
This first trip was a profound experience for the West family. They were confronted with the harsh reality of how isolated and remote these villages could be. After a long flight to Panama City, the team embarked on a six-hour bus ride to their base camp at La Qhia Eco Retreat, at the heart of Santa Fe National Park. The breathtaking scenery of waterfalls, rainforests, and hundreds of species of orchids was juxtaposed with the bare accommodations and lack of air conditioning. The team traversed rough terrain across the continental divide for hours daily. They would set up clinics in local schools, and patients would sometimes walk as much as three hours to reach the clinic. These challenges underscore the urgent need for support in these remote regions.
About 30 weeks of the year, churches and teams join the Cabellos in Panama to prescribe and dispense medications,

complete well-baby checks, provide health-related education and supplies, and build buildings, water wells, and cooking facilities. Vacation Bible School is a favorite among children traveling with their families to these clinics. The children play games, do crafts, have snacks, and hear a gospel presentation.
Between their 2023 and 2024 trips, the Wests have been active in helping to raise funds to build a bridge. The community children used the Rio Bulaba Bridge to travel daily to and from school. Recent storms had washed it away. In the year since the bridge was washed out, eight children had drowned crossing the river. Rebuilding the bridge is a priority so kids can safely walk to school!
Lori shared how her heart has grown to love the people of Panama. While she will continue to give time and financial support to the organization to help our neighbors next door, she feels the need to extend her reach to those beyond the North Texas area. She finds this kind of work in Panama helps her feel grounded and helps to reset her priorities. She discovers that she is less likely to get caught up in all the trappings of everyday life and instead feels more connected to God, her daily study of the Bible, and her calling to help people with a more extended reach. She feels blessed to be at this season in life, which allows her and Al to pursue this passion together.
Each trip is a year-long process of preparation. They focus on gathering medical supplies, medications, construction materials,

health and hygiene items, and money to support the work of the mission community in Panama. After a couple of trips, Lori and Al have learned a lot of lessons, have a better understanding of what to expect, know what to bring and wear, and are even improving their Spanish.
You can learn more about David and Cindy Ceballos' ministry in Panama and other areas worldwide at umcmission. org. If adventurous, you can book a family vacation or team retreat in the rain forest at La Qhia Eco Retreat, operated by the Caballos' laqhia-ecoretreat.com. You can enjoy yoga, birding, hiking, horseback riding, reading a book in a hammock, or pampering yourself.

NTX’S NEW PERFORMING ARTS HAVEN FOR ALL AGES
ARTICLE BY KATELYN BRISCOE
“We would come, and we would do a dance or a song or a play and people would be like, ‘What is this?’ And then when we’d share some testimonies, it was a way to bridge into people’s hearts.”

With all the vintage charm it can muster, the old Weston schoolhouse that sits just on the outskirts of Celina became the new performing arts haven for all ages over the summer. Originally hailing from the Pacific Northwest, owners of Anderlin Arts, Jeremy and Alicia Anderson, packed up their five kids and moved their business down to our neck of the woods. The Andersons arrived in Celina in December and found a space to put down new roots for Anderlin Arts by May.
Jeremy and Alicia originally met in the theater department of Seattle Pacific University through the SPU Players. Both having worked for multiple theaters in the Seattle area, and working with churches, YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, and many others in the area, they were looking for more autonomy over their work and vision and got to thinking.
“Well, what if we kind of like, do this ourselves?” Jeremy said.
Equipped with the experience and the customers, Anderlin Arts was born in 2011. Despite the ways that Anderlin Arts has brought together their heart and passion for the theater, the Andersons each had their own journey to a life dedicated to the arts.
Alicia started theater as a “painfully shy” seven-year-old, and immediately fell head over heels. What began as a way to get her out of the box grew into a pre-med-turned-theater/history-major in college.
“That lasted a couple months; my heart was just yearning to go back to all my artistic endeavors,” Alicia said, “…it was such a hard decision to make.”
She was torn between the pursuit of a more practical field of study or following what her heart longed for.
“My mom said, ‘If God gave you this gift, and if you feel called to this, then you should do this,’” Alicia said.
The proof was in the pudding as she landed a fulltime acting job before graduating college—almost unheard of in the acting world.
“I felt really blessed,” Alicia said, “My mom was super supportive; I’ve always had a job in a theater program, and now we’re doing this as our real job.”
For Jeremy, he grew up in theater and the church. His father was a pastor, and he says their church utilized the arts as a vessel for outreach and as a way to share the gospel.
“People would gather ‘round because it was before flash mobs—we were like the inventors of flash mobs,” Jeremy said. “We would come, and we would do a dance or a song or a play and people would be like, ‘What is this?’ And then when we’d share some testimonies, it was a way to kind of like bridge into people’s hearts.”
Music and theater were always prevalent for Jeremy, but when he went into high school, he was introduced to musical theater through West Side Story
“That was like my first Broadway show, and I loved it,” Jeremy said. “I got bit by the bug at that point.”
He went on to SPU with a theater scholarship but ended up changing his major, opposite his wife, to communications and
business, but he says theater was always part of his studies and mission.
“For me, the heartbeat of who I am is, ‘Leave people better than I found them,’” Jeremy said. “Wherever I go, I want to have an impact, and you get to do that so much when you’re coaching… but also working with youth and adults in a teaching capacity.”
For both Jeremy and Alicia, they founded Anderlin Arts out of a call to enrich others through a love of the arts.
“Being that person that wants to see others succeed and see them grow and see the best in them and leave people better than they found them—” Jeremy said. “That, combined with the arts… Anderlin Arts was birthed out of that.”
Seeing that the arts were often a darker field through their experience in Seattle, they sought to shine a light in the darkness.
“For us, we wanted to be a theater of hope—of light,” Jeremy said, “Something that brought a message of redemption that would talk about things that were important, but family-friendly.”
The Andersons said they knew the Northwest was no longer the right fit for their family for a while as the area has changed over the past five to 10 years. While they miss the beauty and nature of the area they grew up in, they say the ideologies and philosophies have shifted in an anti-family direction, so they looked for a change and landed in North Texas.

“There were a bunch of options, but we really felt called to this area, specifically, and we don’t know why,” Alicia said. “We don’t know; we just know it was the ‘Go.’”
Feeling called by God to come here, the Andersons say they are still waiting for that “why.”
“Honestly, it was really a step of faith,” Jeremy said. “We’re going to come here not knowing all the cards.”
Anderlin Arts, having played such a huge role in their lives and who they are, seemed to be their continued calling. They considered what they should do once they arrived and saw a hole in the arts offerings in our area. Celina quickly became their epicenter for arts’ ministry and their new home.
“It seems like it’s ripe for that…It’s the same lessons that you learn in sports that you learn in theater,” Jeremy said. “Why here is because God called us there, but I think maybe it makes sense because it’s lacking, it’s not here, so maybe we can do that and be the ones to provide it.”
Anderlin Arts is gearing up for their production of Newsies Jr. The Broadway Musical. While they are in the full swing of their fall session right now, registration for spring 2025 will be opening soon.
Anderlin Arts’ venue is located at 307 Main Street in Weston, or online at AnderlinArts.org.
