For Dr. Craig Maples of Still Point Osteopathic Care, healing patients with chronic conditions is a mission that started at home. For more than 10 years, his wife, Megan, lived with back issues that were impacting her ability to lead the life she wanted with her family. “As a spouse, I watched her painfully go through life making accommodations for things like car rides, concerts, hikes, and movies. I wanted to find a way to improve her quality of life.”
After 8 years as a paramedic, Dr. Maples entered the University of North Texas Health Science Center – Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas, where he received honors in Osteopathic Principles and Practices and awards for his commitment to Osteopathic Medicine. During his first year of medical school, he learned osteopathic manipulation. He used it to treat his wife’s chronic condition, and she has not experienced pain since.
Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine carefully study the musculoskeletal system and how it works with the person’s body, mind, and spirit. “We look at the structure and the function of the body to make sure things are working properly,” says Dr. Maples. “When they are not aligned, we provide holistic treatments that address the root causes of issues.”

to tell their story and find treatments that they can use to control their pain. The patient experience at Still Point is rooted in compassion. Alongside Dr. Maples, his wife, Megan, is the office and marketing manager. Patients will be pleasantly surprised that the entire experience is a 1:1 consultation with Dr. Maples. He will greet you upon arrival and spend the time understanding what’s bothering you. It’s not uncommon for visits to be 45 minutes.
“I start with open-ended questions and give patients a safe space to talk. I want each person to feel heard and be able to share every detail of their symptoms,” explains Dr. Maples.
First-time visits include a complete physical exam, reflex and muscle testing, and an osteopathic exam to understand what’s working structurally. Once that is complete, treatment options are discussed, including gentle hands-on osteopathic manipulation to help the body heal.
“I aim to have 90% of my patients graduate from our care in 5 visits or less. Once I treat them, I show them simple exercises to help them retrain their bodies.”
Still Point helps with ailments, including TMJ disorder, migraines, neck and back pain, shoulder issues, and knee and ankle pain. Most patients come to Dr. Maples because they want to fix the underlying problem and are looking for alternatives to medication and surgery.
Not only is Dr. Maples a leading physician bringing holistic healthcare solutions to the community, but the Maples family is thrilled to call Castle Rock home. “After my medical residency in New Mexico, Megan and I were looking for a place to raise our family. Castle Rock felt like our new home and where we wanted to be. We
love the small-town feel and the fact that businesses and families come together to support each other,” says Dr. Maples. Raising four boys under 11 allows the Maples family to be involved in local schools, sports, and outdoor and neighborhood events.
“I love helping patients regain their quality of life to enjoy family and friends. Megan and I opened Still Point Osteopathic Care in a place we love so we could give people more options for healing and hope.”

Bringing Peace For A Kinder Community
ARTICLE BY KRISTEN GONZALES
“Our motto is if you can breathe, you can do yoga,” says Meg Pacella, co-owner of Peace Out Yoga in downtown Castle Rock. “I think a lot of people are intimidated to try yoga because they think they’re not flexible or strong enough.” Instead, owners Meg Pacella and Amanda Shefsick strive to
“I think this is a place where they can kind of let their feelings be their feelings.”
make their studio a community of inclusivity for beginners and experienced members alike.
With 25 yoga instructors, including two Pilates instructors, Peace Out Yoga makes any class beginner-friendly and offers modifications for novices to help them feel comfortable. The incredible community they have built also removes any intimidation.
“I took a class a couple of weeks ago, and we had two newbies walk in. I watched our members just wrap their arms around them and say, ‘Let me help you with this…’” Amanda gushes. “I just felt proud of the culture. It was so open-armed and full of love.” This community stems from Peace Out Yoga, focusing their love of the program on finding peace to promote self-care and self-love while making people better humans.
Amanda and Meg, formerly first-grade teachers, started Peace Out Yoga when another yoga studio they attended closed. They built their business from
the ground up, offering up to 10 classes daily, seven days a week. 600-800 people enter the door each week to practice yoga, from restorative to sculpt to heated Vinyasa. Two of their three studios feature heated yoga using infrared heat, warming the body from the inside out for better circulation, enhanced flexibility, and increased relaxation.
Peace Out Yoga is all about balance and finding mindfulness. Every once in a while, they hold a “Balance Challenge” that encourages members to try different yoga classes and step outside their comfort zone.
Meg talks about how beneficial certain classes are when taken back to back. “On Tuesdays, for example, I teach a hot sculpt, so it’s a hot flow class with weights, and following it is her [Amanda’s] restorative non-heated slow class, and I tell people in my sculpt class, restorative is a great class to follow.”
Amanda follows up, saying, “It compliments it so well. You’ve worked your body really hard, and then
come to stretch deeply and relax and kind of calm that nervous system back down.”
The community vibe is one of Peace Out Yoga’s most essential aspects. Members become lifelong friends, especially through the week-long international yoga retreats they offer each year. They are going to Panama this year, and spaces are still available!
Since opening, Meg and Amanda have witnessed life-changing moments for people who have come through their doors. “I had one girl tell me this story on a retreat,” Amanda begins. “She was driving on the highway and contemplating suicide and then saw the exit ramp. She was a member here and said, ‘I’m going to get into a yoga class.’ It happened to be mine. I had developed my whole theme around not giving up. That shifted her path that night.”
They have also had several cancer survivors who were able to continue yoga throughout their treatment and credit this program for helping to save their lives.
“I just think there’s so many people going through storms that we don’t see,” Meg explains, “and I think this is a place where they can kind of let their feelings be their feelings and then get through the turbulence of the storm.”

CHIROPRACTIC CARE OFFERS TEENS SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS TO ALLEVIATE STRESS, IMPROVE SLEEP AND FOCUS FOR A PATH TO FOCUSED, HEALTHY LIVING.
The Teen Era. It’s no secret that these unique years challenge both parents and teens. In these formative years, teenagers must balance finding their independence, increasing academic pressure, navigating digital distractions and social interactions, and changing bodies. Not surprisingly, teens face stressful days, sleepless nights, and burnout. But there is new hope! To help improve focus and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, parents and teens can start treating health holistically.
We sat down with Dr. Jake Hansen at Restoration Chiropractic to learn more. Established in 2017, Restoration Chiropractic brings together three physicians, and a caring staff focused on wellness and healing through chiropractic care. “Our mission is to restore a patient’s health, hope, and quality of life,” explains Dr. Hansen.
Dedicated to improving the lives of the Castle Rock community, Dr. Hansen and the Restoration Chiropractic team are actively involved in giving back and nurturing a sense of belonging.
“Our individualized approach is designed to meet the specific health needs of each teenager, with a strong focus on natural, non-invasive methods.”
This year, they partnered with the local non-profit Health and Hope Center and collected sleeping bags to bring comfort and warmth. “Together, we are striving to create a ripple effect of compassion that supports the wellness and health of Castle Rock,” says Dr. Hansen.
Seeking to help Castle Rock residents, the team at Restoration Chiropractic was curious about teens’ health. The office conducted a five-year study of the impact of digital devices on teens’ spinal health.
What role can chiropractic care play for teenagers?
Chiropractic care goes beyond pain relief; it helps relieve pressure by targeting the body’s parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation. We want to optimize health. Regular chiropractic checkups can boost the immune system, improve energy levels, and enhance mood, affecting a teenager’s ability to focus and thrive.
Chiropractic adjustments can help relieve physical tension, promote relaxation, and support deeper, more restorative sleep. Well-rested teens are naturally more focused, attentive, and ready to succeed.
What are some changes that teens can make to their lifestyle?
Chiropractic care works best when paired with healthy lifestyle practices. Improving posture, stretching, and implementing smart study habits can create positive changes.
What did you learn from your study of teenager’s spinal health?
For the last five years, we have studied 2,419 teenagers. These teenagers required an X-ray of their neck/ cervical spine. Only nine patients had the appropriate curvature in their neck. This issue is directly proportional to a handheld device or cell phone usage. Teenagers constantly look down instead of forward or up, which puts extreme stress on the spinal cord and brainstem; thus, the brain becomes distressed and disconnected from the body.
What is one thing that teens can start doing today for their health?
Misalignments in the spine can interfere with the nervous system, affecting concentration, mood, and cognitive function. Regular chiropractic spinal checks and adjustments can help restore balance, improve focus, better mental clarity, and a more relaxed state of mind in teenagers.

The beginning of the year is packed with inspiration and motivation to get back on track after a sweet-filled holiday season. It can feel extreme, and it also can be depleting to cut oneself off from everything indulgent after weeks of eating favorite sweet and savory recipes. For sugar lovers who believe going cold-turkey feels intimidating or overwhelming, nutrition-packed desserts are a great way to stick to healthy food goals without the guilt.
ARTICLE BY MEL BOBAN
This recipe is a classic favorite. If you cut the bars into 16 pieces, they are around 270 calories each. They are very filling, packed with healthy goodies and taste, oh so delicious. If you can’t finish them yourself (it makes a lot!), bring samples along to your next workout class to share the love. Your accountability group will be asking you for the recipe! These come in handy for a quick breakfast on-the-go or an afternoon snack. You’ll want to taste these out of the oven once they cool a bit... simply scrumptious.
Combine:
• 1 cup wheat flour
• 2 cups cooked quinoa, cooled
• 2 cups oats
• 2/3 cup of your choice of chopped nuts
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 2 tablespoons chia seeds
• 2/3 cup raisins
• Optional: chocolate chips as desired
• Optional: add additional seeds or nuts on hand such as pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc.
Notes: Boil quinoa at a 2:1 water to rice ratio. For estimating, 1/3 cup of uncooked quinoa yields 1 cup cooked quinoa.
Add this mixture slowly to combine:
• 2 eggs
• 2/3 cup peanut butter, almond butter or sunflower butter
• 1/2 cup honey
• 1 banana
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes, or until when the edges get golden brown. Bake in a 9x13-inch glass dish. After they cool, slice and enjoy. Keep them covered to maintain freshness.
Danger ahead: this snack is amazing. It’s the easiest of the bunch and also satisfies a sweet tooth craving. This can be whipped together in just 5 minutes and makes just a small amount. Feel free to take creative liberty here with your amounts, but if you make it to this recipe, they are around 90 calories per bite.
1. Cut a banana into 8-10 small slices, around 1/2 inch each.
2. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter (or your choice of nut butter) on each banana slice.
3. Drizzle a small amount of melted chocolate chips or caramel over each bite.
4. Freeze for 15-20 minutes and enjoy!
Pro tip: A dash of sea salt flakes on top of these can be *chef’s kiss.*
These are great to keep on hand in the freezer all weeklong. Once they set, add them to a closed container to keep the bananas from browning.
Late night snack cravings are real! When finding yourself rooting through the cabinets for a sweet fix, these protein cookie dough bites are a great way to curb temptation. This recipe yields around 20 small bites, which can be cut into small squares or rolled into dough balls. Each bite is around 105 calories. If you find the dough is a little too dry, add a dash of milk as needed.
Ingredients
• 1/4 cup milk
• 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
• 1/4 cup maple syrup
• 1/4 cup peanut butter (or alternate nut or sunflower butter)
• 1 cup almond flour
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• Chocolate chips as desired
Pro tip: Use mini chocolate chips and for a dash of savory add sea salt flakes on top. Once combined, store the bites in the refrigerator in a covered container to keep them moist.
