PRIVATE PRACTICE OPEN IN CANTON

MEET DR. ANDY KRAGOR

Crikey, It's August!

With the charged enthusiasm of a Goldendoodle chasing a crocodile, I welcome you to the August issue of our luxury magazine. In this edition, we celebrate the heart and soul of our community—our families, students, children, and beloved pets.

Here in Canton, Georgia, we understand that family bonds extend beyond the walls of our homes and into the very fabric of our town—from the Fairways of Canton to Free Home, from the Falls of Cherokee to Crabapple. Our community values the family unit, cherishing the love, support, and connections that define who we are. As Mayor Bill Grant would say, we are one big family united by our shared values and the unique spirit "Up Yonder".

In this issue, we spotlight the incredible kindness that consistently brings our town together. The four Cherokee County Chick-fil-A owners come together to speak on their humble collaboration and inspirations. At the same time, we thankfully spotlight the initiatives and giving they annually pour back into our community.

Our children and maturing students are the future of Canton, and it is through their eyes that we see the promise of tomorrow. We sat down with our local university track and field stars charging at the 2028 Olympics. We celebrate Kali and David for their tenacity and achievements and continue to cheer them towards gold in 2028 and beyond.

When I grew up in Sydney, I had a pet Kangaroo called 'Skippy' that we would ride around our backyards and bring to school for show and tell. They were much safer than any other pets in Australia. My old buddy Steve Irwin used to say we should always love every animal and person, even if it is dangerous, and more especially if that person owns a cat! Whatever pet you own holds a special place in our hearts. They are our loyal companions, our confidants, and our joy-bringers. Oh, and no, I didn't ride the Roos.

As you read this issue, we hope you feel the warmth and pride of being part of such a remarkable community. Let us celebrate the kindness in our towns, the strong family ties, and the cherished pets that make Canton an extraordinary place to call home.

Thank you for being a part of our family. Here's to the love, laughter, and lasting memories that unite us all.

West Milford Farms, Goldendoodles and Serene Complexions

Nestled in between three zip codes, West Milford Farm beckons us to preserve the beauty and history of our families. The farm, named for Lightner West and the Milford family, holds a unique charm that has been cherished for generations. Mary Hoffman’s Goldendoodles here on the historic farm enjoying the charm and shade with some young friends.

Over the last ten years, Chad Milford and his partner Thomas have transformed this working farm into a luxurious venue that appeals to everyone's need for peace and tranquility. Chad's deep connection with his family's farm uniquely authenticates this authentic turn-of-the-century farmstead. Some of Chad's guests commented, "My blood pressure drops the minute I pull in the drive. I just feel a sense of calm come over me." Chad and Thomas love the history of these grounds just as much as the community aspect of running West Milford Farm. In the last year, West Milford has hosted private events and community-sponsored activities for the whole family. Weekly yoga classes, an outdoor Summer concert series, outdoor photography sessions, yearly Santa pictures, and a benefit Easter Egg hunt for the Free Home Elementary School Rocket Pantry, to name just a few. Generational longevity is the name of the game for Chad and his family.

Currently, the fifth generation of Chad's family attends Free Home Elementary School, which shows the incredible staying power of a great community. One might say that remaining in one place for ten years is impossible for many to boast, but a family quickly approaching the 100-year mark is remarkable.

From the early beginnings of West Milford Farm, the acres of land have been home to family and friends, animals, and the spirit of togetherness. As pictured in the photo, children of West Milford claimed the grounds for America's favorite pastime of baseball. This same area now boasts a beautiful garden that provides the farm with sustenance and peace. Chad and Thomas never take a day off at the farm. Starting with the wedding of Chad's cousin in 2014 and a barn still full of hay, the idea of creating a space that would preserve the essence of Chad's family heritage and the beauty of the farm became more than a dream. With 30 acres dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of photographers, brides, musicians, and romantics, West Milford Farm provides endless opportunities for the greater Cherokee community to take advantage of over the year. If you are looking for pampering, West Milford Farm also has an answer to that request.

Along with the love of sweet puppy smooches from the delightful Goldendoodles, Bridget Barris was on-site at one of the unique components of West Milford Farm...The Greenhouse. Built from reclaimed windows from a local cotton mill, the ambiance of this structure is truly magical.

“I knew I wanted to do something at the farm since I was a kid. I didn’t know what it was, but I knew this place was special.”

Surrounded by plants of all kinds, a 360-degree view of the property provides each visitor with a surreal experience of looking at the farm from the inside out. Returning this Fall of 2024, Bridget Barris's independently owned company, Serene Complexions, will whisk you to a peaceful dreamland. Bridget is an accomplished aesthetician who uses expertise in holistic facial techniques to soothe your body from the inside out. You do not want to miss this cerebral opportunity to relax and be pampered.

As we look forward to 2025, we can anticipate the opening of the newly renovated FarmHouse, once the private residence of Chad and his partner. It will soon become the Bridal Suite, a perfect haven for all the beautiful brides of West Milford Farm.

As you can see, there is never a dull moment at West Milford Farm. The gorgeous landscape and comforting essence of the farm are a tribute to the owners' vision. It will continue to exceed the expectations of all its guests. From the community programs offered for all ages to the private moments one must cherish for a lifetime, one cannot go wrong in finding time to visit and play at West Milford Farm. The “Second Mile” is a biblical phrase known to many as going the extra mile or above and beyond the call of duty. With their signature hospitality, community connection, and a “give back” mantra, Cherokee County Chick-fil-A’s work towards excellence in serving great food and, more importantly, people. Our four operators share a uniqueness in how they work together. It is not usual across Chick-fil-A’s corporate landscape to have owners/operators collaborate as closely as they do. With almost 100 years of operating experience between them, it is our pleasure to introduce the humble individuals behind the scenes of Chickfil-A Cherokee County who believe that giving back is the most important way to invest in families and future generations.

Steeped in history and warmth, the people of Canton simply want the best for their growing community. Kevin sees the beauty of being together and serving people how they want to be served.

Future Olympic Hopefuls of Cherokee County

THE ATHLETE'S UNSTOPPABLE JOURNEY TO WWE AND BEYOND Kali Terza's athletic journey has been extraordinary, marked by determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her goals. A graduate of Etowah HS and currently on scholarship at Kennesaw State University, Kali's journey has taken her from her early days as a sprinter and hurdler to becoming a successful hammer thrower. With her eyes set on the 2028 Olympics, Kali's future is bright. She recently signed a threeyear contract with WWE through their NIL program (Name, Image, Likeness).

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE GOALS, AND HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THEM?

"I aim to compete in the 2028 Olympics in the hammer throw event," says Kali. "My current personal best throw is 64.33 meters, but I need to reach 80 meters to be at the top level. To improve, I'm transitioning from a three-turn to a four-turn technique."

HOW DID THE NIL DEAL FIND YOU?

"My journey started in an unexpected way," says Kali. "I posted a few TikTok videos of me squatting boys, just for fun. It went viral, and WWE scouts noticed my strength and charisma. They reached out, and before I knew it, I signed a three-year contract through their NIL program. It was surreal but a dream come true."

The WWE NIL program is a groundbreaking initiative allowing collegiate athletes to earn compensation from their personal brand. This contract provides Kali with a golden opportunity to continue training for the Olympics, try out for a spot on the WWE roster, and pursue a burgeoning career in WWE.

“I posted a few TikTok videos... they went viral and WWE scouts noticed my strength and charisma. I signed a three-year contract”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG ATHLETES?

"Never give up, be open to new opportunities, and continue doing what you love," Kali advises. "These principles were key in my journey from being a sprinter and hurdler to becoming a hammer thrower. Kali's transition from track events to hammer throwing was marked by breaking school records and earning a scholarship to Kennesaw State. Her hard work also earned her the honor of representing the United States at the U20 World Championships.

HOW HAS YOUR FAMILY SUPPORTED YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER?

"My family has been my biggest support system," Kali shares. "They've always been there for me, attending my track meets and encouraging me during tough times. Their unwavering support has given me the strength to keep pushing forward." This family support has been a source of strength and motivation throughout her athletic career.

DAVID'S JOURNEY: FROM FOOTBALL TO 2024 OLYMPIC TRIALS

David's journey from high school football to becoming a top javelin thrower is a tale of unexpected transitions and relentless determination. Initially, David was a football player at Pinewood Christian Academy in Belleville, Georgia. He was introduced to the javelin in his first year at Reinhardt University, where he had a football scholarship.

HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

His foray into track and field began with the triple jump. "My head coach, Coach Jordan Turner, saw my potential and asked if I wanted to try javelin. I took advantage of the opportunity and found a new passion," David recalls. The switch was a turning point, beginning an extraordinary athletic journey.

WHAT WERE YOUR KEY MILESTONES?

Under Coach Josh in his sophomore year he competed at the national level. "I went to the National Championship

“I want to be the top

American

javelin thrower leading into the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and win a gold medal.”

He acknowledges the steep competition, especially against athletes training in javelin since high school.

Nevertheless, David's competitive nature drives him to aim for the top. "It's about making a mark and proving myself among the best," he states confidently. “I want to be the top American javelin thrower leading into the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and win a gold medal."

that year ranked eighth but ended up winning the title with a personal record of 69.90 meters," David says. His subsequent years at Reinhardt saw continued success. "In my junior year, I threw 71.20 meters to win the title again, and this year, I took the title with a throw of 71.80 meters." His rapid ascent has positioned him as the number one NAIA collegiate thrower in the United States, a testament to his talent and hard work.

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS AND ASPIRATIONS FOR THE FUTURE?

David sets his sights high. "My goal is to place in the top three at the trials, but ultimately, I want to win."

David competed in the 2024 Eugene, Oregon, trials on June 23. He made it into the final eight and threw an incredible 75.06 meters (246 ft), a personal best. The winning throw was 83.04 meters.

WHO HAS SUPPORTED YOU ALONG THE WAY?

David's support system has been crucial to his success. Coach Josh is obviously a great mentor, his family, particularly his parents and sister, have been his biggest cheerleaders. "My sister lives close to Reinhardt, and my parents travel to all my meets. Their support means the world to me," David shares. This strong family bond has helped him stay grounded and motivated.

Yes to Love and Peace

Helping Families Receive Support to Break the Cycle of Domestic Violence

Our story began in 1984, when a compassionate committee from Canton First United Methodist Church (CFUMC) recognized the urgent need to support IPV victims, then known as battered women, in Cherokee County. We collaborated with local institutions like R. T. Jones Memorial Hospital, the Canton Police Department, and the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit. Drawing inspiration from successful shelters across Georgia.

Through thoughtfully crafted programs, we offer an array of services designed to provide holistic support, encompassing counseling, legal advocacy, shelter, and educational resources. By addressing the diverse needs of our community, we strive to empower survivors on their journey towards healing, resilience, and a brighter future.

Join us to support CFVC by participating in our upcoming golf tournament The 3rd Annual Robidou Company Cares Scramble Golf Tournament  on August 23rd, at the Fairways of Canton. Golfers and sponsors can sign up at CFVC.harnessgiving.org/events/1509
