Men’s Me time

Embrace the Spa Experience

In today’s fast-paced world, self-care is essential for everyone, including men. Just like women, men deserve and should indulge in spa treatments to rejuvenate their minds and bodies. Woodhouse Spa in Buckhead is a haven for relaxation and wellness, offering a variety of treatments tailored specifically for men.

Woodhouse Spa Buckhead is co-owned by Hollis and Stacey Howell. The decision to open the spa came after Stacey recognized the benefits of massage during Hollis’s recovery from a military injury. After being introduced to the Woodhouse franchise, she felt that a location in Buckhead would be the perfect idea and loved the concept. This was influenced by the lifestyle of Hollis Howell, who is a Navy Submarine Veteran. Hollis Howell acknowledges his wife’s role, stating, “The vision was my wife’s, but she says she was inspired by me.”

Woodhouse Spa provides an array of personalized spa services including ones that cater to men’s unique needs. The men’s services range from various types of massage to a multitude of facials.

Hollis Howell, the co-owner of Woodhouse Spa, emphasizes the significance of self-care for men. “Men often overlook the importance of taking time for themselves. At Woodhouse Spa, we believe that self-care is essential for everyone, regardless of gender.

Our male-focused treatments are designed to help men relax, recharge, and feel their best.”

One of the standout treatments for men at Woodhouse Spa is the Gentleman’s Facial, which targets specific skin concerns that men often face. This facial includes deep cleansing, exfoliation, and hydration, leaving the skin refreshed and revitalized. Howell notes, “It’s a great way for men to take care of their skin and unwind.”

In addition to facials, Woodhouse Spa offers therapeutic massages that address muscle tension and stress. Massage plays an important role in recovery for athletes and active men. So many males work out and make the gym part of their lifestyle but do not see massage as the other part for recovery. The Deep Tissue Massage is particularly beneficial for men who lead active lifestyles or experience chronic muscle pain. “Our Deep Tissue Massage is perfect for men who need relief from muscle soreness and tension.

It’s a powerful way to promote relaxation and overall well-being,” Howell explains. It is also his go-to treatment. “I always feel rejuvenated afterward,” Howell shares.

Woodhouse Spa’s transformational environment is notable for its calming and mood-enhancing ambiance. Upon entering the opulent lobby, guests are treated to a luxurious robe and reflexology sandals that release the day’s stresses. The spa features a Quiet Room, where calming music accompanies the space for guests to relax before and after their treatments, partnered with sound masking to help clients stay immersed in the tranquil mood. There is also a dedicated space for inversion table therapy, a beautiful patio to relax and enjoy lunch, and a retail store with some

of the spa’s signature products so guests can continue their self-care at home.

“Self-care is not just about physical well-being; it’s also about mental and emotional health. Men need to take time for themselves to de-stress and recharge. Our spa provides the perfect environment for that,” Howell further elaborates.

“My vision is to have men come in at lunchtime or before going home to relax and indulge, so that when they arrive at home or at work the next day, they are their best selves — ready to create, manage, supervise or just be a better husband, partner and dad.”

For Father’s Day or any occasion, what better way to show appreciation than by offering a moment to relax and rejuvenate oneself at Woodhouse? Make sure to book a couples massage for those who want to indulge their partner in this Buckhead oasis.

Bookings can be done via phone or at WoodhouseSpas.com.  678.391.4333

TEEN COLLAB PUTS Giving First

In an inspiring collaboration between two Atlanta schools, Lovett School senior Daniel Kauffman and Westminster senior William Wright have joined forces to launch Impact Threads, a clothing company dedicated to supporting local charities. By integrating philanthropy into fashion, these two young entrepreneurs are redefining how consumers interact with clothing and charitable giving.

Impact Threads stands as a testament to the power of collaboration. Daniel and William, coming from two different schools, have pooled their talents and passions to create a brand with a mission: each apparel collection directly supports a partnered charity, giving customers a tangible way to contribute to meaningful causes. The students’ shared commitment to community service and entrepreneurship laid the foundation for this innovative business model.

“Their goal is to create statement pieces that not only stand out aesthetically but also drive meaningful change.”

The idea for Impact Threads was sparked by Daniel’s formative experience in sixth grade when he participated in a Lovett-led volunteer project at a homeless shelter. This moment left a lasting impact, inspiring him to seek ways to make a meaningful difference. When he and William started brainstorming business ideas, they knew they wanted to create something that not only provided stylish apparel but also made an impact in the community.

Impact Threads offers apparel collections where each shirt features a QR code linking directly to the donation page of the partnered charity. This unique integration allows customers to see the impact of their purchase in real time, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to transparency and community support.

The business model is simple but powerful: charities grant Impact Threads permission to use their logos, and in return, they receive 51 percent of the net profits from every shirt sold. The shirts are hand-pressed, with each collection dedicated to a specific organization. So far, Impact Threads has partnered with Atlanta Humane Society, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta , and I Will Survive, Inc.

Overcoming Challenges

Like any startup, Impact Threads faced initial hurdles. The biggest challenge was convincing charities to collaborate. “At first, it was hard for nonprofits to see the benefit of working with us,” William explained. “So we made it completely free for charities and committed to donating the majority of our profits.”

A marketing breakthrough came when Krista Maxson, the manager of the Vinings Farmers Market, invited them to sell their shirts at the market. This opportunity provided much-needed exposure, fueling the brand’s growth.

Impact Threads has ambitious plans for the future. Daniel and William envision expanding beyond T-shirts into a full-scale fashion brand that blends luxury with accessibility. Their goal is to create statement pieces that not only stand out aesthetically but also drive meaningful change.

“Our vision is to bridge the gap between high fashion and streetwear,” Daniel says. “Every drop we release should have a purpose beyond just looking good.”

More Than Just Art

We share our gifts, volunteer and support a cause that means something special to us, building community around us and fostering purpose.

Meet High Museum of Art patron, John Fenton of Buckhead.

Why I give: I have always had an appreciation for the visual arts and have artistic people in my family. I enjoy supporting the arts because of this and the plethora of special events the High’s team puts on.

Docent-led HIGHlights tours, workshops, mindfulness experiences, HIGH Frequency Fridays, jazz, educational talks, art context conversations, studio classes and of course the annual wine auction keep us engaged.

A few of my favorite places at the High are the Taylor Lobby; it’s a great welcoming and reception space. The special exhibition galleries hold so many great exhibitions and have hosted some of the art world’s greats. The Greene Family Learning Galleries is where I take my grandkids when visiting.

We applaud John for making philanthropy a priority.

Pouring Nuance

Omakase Table, Buckhead’s new MICHELIN-starred intimate and inventive take on sushi, will introduce a complementary cocktail program that’s just as compelling. The handcrafted drink menu, inspired by executive chef Leonard Yu’s creative 20-course tasting menu, is overseen and executed by Omakase Table beverage director and Atlanta native, Garn McCown.

“Cocktails are always fun, but they work even better in a restaurant like Omakase Table, when paired well with the food,” explains McCown. “For me, it’s about translating the chef’s passion in the kitchen to what we create behind the bar. We aim to identify the key elements of a dish and craft a cocktail that complements its nuances— bringing balance to both the plate and the glass.”

The River's Quiet Champion

ARTICLE BY SUE G. COLLINS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MEGAN CHANG
He shows our children every day what it means to be kind, strong and full of integrity, and has shown them that love is at the heart of a meaningful life.

Chattahoochee Riverkeeper’s Executive Director

Jason Ulseth was shaking hands with visitors at the office, stomping mud off his boots, nodding an unspoken message at his assistant and hopping on a call when I first met him. We spent an hour in the sturdy patrol boat—him sharing startling statistics about the conservation and ecological health of the Chattahoochee River, its lakes, tributaries and watershed; me hanging on his every word (and the side of the boat), wondering how many people are lucky enough to have jobs that align with their passions, abilities and dreams.

Jason and I met again in a hospital room at Emory Winship Cancer Center. Our friend and his colleague, Becca Sue Klein, was losing her seven-year battle with metastatic breast cancer—a fight she faced relentlessly, supported by the fly fishing community and a dedicated tribe of friends. A week later, we were assembling bookshelves and fluffing pillows in the in-law apartment at his house where Becca would live temporarily. She was weakening and Jason, his wife Dawn, Becca’s parents and her care tribe, agreed having someone (Jason’s family) upstairs would be a good thing. It was then Jason’s quiet mission to ensure her safety and confidence while anticipating her every need. He accomplished that. And more.

Becca passed away January 21 with her loving parents, Jon and Jennifer, by her side.

Jason, Dawn, Sydney (16) and Easton (14) Ulseth will forever be angels in my eyes. They also scooped up Becca’s pup, Gunner, now one of the family.

Jason’s dedication to his friends and community complements his position at Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. Jason is an expert in stormwater management and is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control and a Georgia-certified Design Professional and Trainer. He is also an elected District

Supervisor of the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District.

But, his family is his top priority!

Sydney is a rising junior at Centennial High School and she just started her first job working at a movie theater.  Her passion is music, with Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams topping her chart. She is also in the chorus at school.

Easton is a rising freshman at Centennial High School. He loves playing and watching soccer and is earning his referee license. He’s a diehard Liverpool Football Club fan.

This year, Father’s Day falls on Jason’s birthday. There will undoubtedly be good food, a family gathering and talk of fishing.

“Watching Jason as a dad has shown me how deep his patience, strength and resilience truly run. I have seen him overcome challenges with strength and determination, all so that he could be the father that our children deserve,” says Dawn. “He shows our children every day what it means to be kind, strong and full of integrity, and has shown them that love is at the heart of a meaningful life.”

Jason joined the team at Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK) as the organization’s Technical Programs Director in 2007 and in 2015, Jason rose to the role of Riverkeeper and serves as the organization’s lead river protection advocate and spokesperson. He also serves as CRK’s lead boat captain and is licensed by the United States Coast Guard as a Merchant Marine Officer to captain passenger vessels of up to 50 tons.

Jason is an expert in stormwater management and is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control and a Georgia certified Design Professional and Trainer. He is also an elected District Supervisor of the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District.

It's all in the details.

THE GOOD LIFE

OUTDOOR LIVING GONE LUXE

For homeowners with a big dream of a built-in pool and only a small side yard to work with, this makeover by Georgia Luxury Pools and Southern Landscapes and Designs elevated the outdoor space to something elegant and fun.

This was a new build from start to finish. The design had a 10' x 18' rectangle “spool” or small dipping pool that is a fully functioning hot tub with jets and a plunge pool. The pool has a small tanning ledge, with bubblers and eight therapeutic deck jets. The yard has new decking, a water fountain feature, and enclosed wall with two entry gates that lock with a code, and an outdoor kitchen area. A farm to table garden along with a tree buffer wall create a dreamy setting for entertaining.

ARTICLE BY CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF

PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALEKS KAPETT

David Brown of Georgia Luxury Pools and Patrick Ferguson from Southern Landscapes and Designs, whose seamless partnership has redefined the meaning of backyard environments, collaborated on this project.

“We were able to expand the yard by making the pool self-supporting,” notes David. “We gave them a place to entertain friends and family as well as a really nice water feature.”

Southern Landscapes and Designs installed the necessary retaining walls to level usable areas, added landscaping, irrigation, a vegetable garden, outdoor lighting, and a beautiful custom medieval iron doors for entry into pool area. “The homeowner has complete outdoor year round living space for all seasons,” says Patrick.

For another project in Alpharetta, the two worked together to right the wrongs of a previous pool repair and to add more usable space on the top deck. The equipment was upgraded, new LED low voltage pool lights installed and new tile with waterproofing and new pebble add polish to the look. “I love the larger spill over as well as the ledge stone on the wall. It's a much cleaner look,” says David. They also added an energy-efficient pump and a new automation for easy mobile control of the pool.

Patrick’s team added an irrigation system to the yard and full landscape design, replaced an old retaining wall and the deck, adding a roof, a fireplace and TV for fall football games, and an outdoor kitchen to keep the crew fueled.

David Brown's journey into the pool industry began at a remarkably young age, influenced by his family's deep-rooted legacy in the pool business. His early years spent mastering every facet of pool building culminated in over two decades of expertise. In 2022, David left the family pool business and founded Georgia Luxury Pools to create his vision for a better pool company, driven by a passion for delivering unparalleled customer experiences and crafting award-winning designs.

Patrick's journey began at Pike Nurseries at age 15, where his love for landscaping blossomed. His career took him across the country, building golf courses before returning home to Georgia. With over three decades of expertise and a penchant for award-winning designs, Patrick founded Southern Landscapes and Designs in 2016.

David and Patrick have worked together for over seven years, and it shows. Their collaboration delivers more than aesthetics; it delivers peace of mind. When homeowners choose this team, they’re getting a full-service transformation, managed by professionals who understand every layer of design and construction.

From solving deep structural issues to selecting the perfect landscape lighting, they work in harmony to bring the homeowner's vision to life—and then some.

As Alpharetta and Johns Creek continue to flourish, the partnership between Georgia Luxury Pools and Southern Landscapes & Designs sets the gold standard for outdoor living.

“When the reality of the finished product far exceeds your dream. The end result proves to us we engaged with the right team. A huge ‘Thank You’ for turning our outdoor space into our own private oasis,” says happy customers, Ken and Renita Gibson.
