Dear Reader,
I hope this letter finds you in high spirits and full of creative energy.
Today, I want to take a moment to celebrate and explore the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.
Style is deeply personal. And it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, our passions, and our desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, as it enables us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.
As individuals, we have the freedom to embrace established styles, blend them together, or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. We hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in Brentwood to uplift our spirits, boost your productivity and ignite your creativity.
What I’ve found is that the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And that’s something no one on earth can duplicate.
Here’s to being uniquely you!

"Helping patients balance their hormones has been the most rewarding aspect of my career I have the privilege of helping people get back to feeling their normal self again Hormone replacement is for women as well as men Testosterone starts decreasing in men in their mid-thirties and steadily declines each year Symptoms of low testosterone can be low energy irritability weight gain loss of muscle mass, low libido, and erectile dysfunction In women I typically see symptoms of irritability weight gain low libido poor sleep brain fog hot flashes and night sweats Balancing your hormones can not only minimize (or even eliminate) these symptoms, but can also reduce the risk of certain cancers osteoporosis heart disease aging skin and cognitive decline We only use bio-identical hormones, which are exactly the same asyour body makes We do not use synthetic hormones as these can lead to unwanted side effects We administer the hormones by placing a hormone pellet under the skin This provides a steady release of the hormone(s) over a few months, without the roller coaster that injections or creams can cause I m truly fortunate to be able to help people get their life back Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy can significantly improve someone s quality of life ”

Home sweet home, what a simple and sweet saying.
Being able to own a house is one of the many facets of achieving the American dream, and everyone hopes for a place that they can head home to at the end of the day, where they are able to kick up their feet and feel right at peace with the world. Ultimately, just having a place to call their own.
Due to the beautiful scenery and southern charm, Tennessee always has been a desirable place to live. However, as Nashville continues to be a hot spot for tourism, there’s been an increase in people moving to the area causing the real estate market to grow and attempt to adapt to the sudden need for houses in the surrounding areas. This has led to a positive shift in the local real estate market for sellers. However, it’s also impacted the way that houses are being renovated and built. Many houses that have been around for generations have undergone modern renovations and updates or restoration whilst new construction is popping up left and right, promising big and beautiful homes with endless ideas to those who purchase the land.
Jessica Petersen, marketing director of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Woodmont Realty, says: “Middle Tennessee's overall appeal as a desirable location for residents and investors remains intact, but the current landscape favors cautious and strategic decision-making.

As interest rates play a key role in shaping buyer behavior, closely monitoring market dynamics and staying informed about rate fluctuations is crucial for all parties involved. With careful navigation, both buyers and sellers can find opportunities in this evolving Middle Tennessee real estate market.”
In a time where real estate is a topic often on people’s lips, some listings stand out more so than others from the crowd thanks to their prime location and immaculate architecture. The quest for the perfect home sometimes isn’t easy, and it’s Realtors that stand behind their listings with pride that make the house-hunting process a more easy and enjoyable one.
A good Realtor can help their clients find a home, but an even better Realtor is one who is able to match their clients to idealistic listings that go above and beyond their expectations and makes their life feel all the more luxurious. Sure, one could settle for just any house, but why settle when you can have the more outrageous option?
A Realtor can show listings with home features that house hunters didn’t even think were possible, such as beautiful backyards with a guest house and an immaculate pool, or elevators.
Middle Tennessee has nothing short of breathtaking homes. Houses that are so dreamy and beautiful that people are left in awe as they drive past one house to the next, all of these houses being unique in their own way.
In a community that’s filled with beautiful homes, Brentwood Lifestyle has gathered 12 listings that truly stand out in a modern-day real estate market due to their outrageous home features, stunning design, and the Realtors behind the houses.

Talk about coming full circle.
After Lex and Natalia Lipsitz in 2021 purchased the Brentwood estate of country icon Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, they commissioned a full house renovation but brought it back to its authentic, historical glory. Instead of asking 'Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?' Lex instead asked 'Are You Sure Waylon Done It This Way?' And that way they did, wherever they could, preserving logos, doors, fireplaces, heirlooms, tile, original slate, chandeliers, iron front gate, lions atop outdoor columns and even doorknobs. However, it's Lex's extremely personal interest and emotional investment in this estate that's equally intriguing.
As owner of LEX Music Group in Nashville, Lex knew he could make use of the house's bottom floor for an outlaw-inspiring, 1,500-square-foot full-tracking music studio. But, his personal connection started decades ago with this particular property at 824 Old Hickory Blvd.
Lex says he'd been trying to purchase the home for at least six years prior, due
to his previous relationship with Waylon, Jessi and their son, Shooter Jennings. "In 1998, Shooter, Matt Reasor, Jonathan Boodie and I formed a band called Stargunn here at this house. It changed the trajectory of my life and career. So many incredible stories."
The estate's owner as of 2004 was then health care executive, Carolyn "Carol" Latham, who lived there with her mother and sister. Lex says he stopped by during 2013 to let her know he was interested in buying the place, but she said she never intended to sell it. He didn't give up, though, continuing to check in with her, even sending her Christmas cards.
When Lex ultimately got the call from Carol, he says he was literally watching the TV series Tiger King. "When a woman's voice on the other end of the phone said 'this is Carol,' I thought it was someone playing a prank on me, like it was Carole Baskin from the show," recalls Lex.
Carol had decided to retire to Florida, and Lex was fortunate enough to arrange a private sale.
"This all happened during COVID, and we moved into Southern Comfort's pool/ guest house for eight months while we tried to renovate and update. Everything else was left as original as possible," Lex says.
Lex says it's been amazing to have the same front door that George Jones knocked on to engage in a heated argument with Waylon. "Waylon tied George up to a tree in the front yard until he mellowed out and then had him in for coffee and biscuits and gravy the next morning. We repurposed that same original front door and knocker as our studio control room door now."
"This is some people's Graceland, and it feels insane to be able to live here," reflects Lex, who is enthused that he and Natalia's 1-year-old daughter, Mila Lynne, is growing up there as well.
He says if he's out getting the mail when celebrity tour buses go by their house, he sometimes gets on the bus to tell them captivating details.
In his own studio where he now mixes and produces music for artists such as Taylor Austin Dye, Norman North and Sean Stemaly, he recalls historic tales of epic poker games and jam sessions in the same room. "It's like a shrine to Waylon and is where he kept all his guitars and master recording tapes."
Interestingly, Lex having his previous experience with the estate resulted from a fluke. He was at Belmont University, studying music production, when a drummer didn't show up one day for a recording. Having been a drummer his whole life, Lex quietly walked into the control room and nailed the performance. Rev. Richie Sessions told him he had to audition for Shooter's newly forming band. He says he was invited to Southern Comfort and was met by the scene of Dukes of Hazzard car
General Lee, Johnny Cash, Waylon and Jessi. "After Jessi offering iced tea, Waylon put me through a series of questions and told me, 'You're going to join this band.' My life was never the same after those initial moments."
He says being at the home routinely was like being part of a legendary machine and being accepted into royalty, surrounded by letters from John Lennon and with people such as Billy Ray Cyrus dropping by. "Waylon was one of the most encouraging people in the industry, who would provide authentic advice."
Stargunn became a hard rock band in Los Angeles during the 2000s. Shooter performed lead vocals and played piano. Lex handled drums, while Kevin Sciou, Carter Falco and Jonathan Boodie played guitars and Curtis Roach played bass. Stargunn's sound: "Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Guns N' Roses." Lex moved back to Nashville during 2007.
Lex also has memories, while watching TV, of Waylon affectionately gazing at his prize possession in the family room: Buddy Holly's personal motorcycle.
"When at our studio now, people can still feel the synergy and the power of Southern Comfort," Lex states.
He says Natalia, a fellow writer/music producer, also operates a music studio in Waylon's former office. "My adult life all comes back to this house. Not a day goes by where I don’t feel lucky and honored to be here. Now, my talented outlaw friends come here to write and record. We’re creating our own new music history to add to Southern Comfort. Waylon would've wanted us to start our own unique paths and legacies; that's another way we honor him."

One freethinking Nashville singer is putting another notch, or two, in the Bible Belt. We see you, TAD. Raw and real.
'Ride or Dyes' fans of rising country singer/songwriter Taylor Austin Dye describe her songs as "badass, confident, amazing, and touchingly down-to-earth." Originally from Booneville, Kentucky, she says her brand of in-yourface music comes straight from her rowdy country roots.
"I love high-energy shows, and that's what we deliver. Our music could be considered rawk. Fans tell us it also 'hits the feels,'" she says.
Steeped in tones of Southern soul, honkytonk, rockabilly and progressive country, with a blend of rock/folk rhythms, country instrumentation and introspective lyrics, Taylor sings from the heart in an authentic way that instantly tugs at listeners' heart strings. With her husband, Ben Williamson, as drummer and fellow songwriter, their style of rawk pop and indie country music is based on a strong bass line, amplified instruments and Taylor's poignant storytelling.
Taylor was performing music by the time she was 5 years young. She says she sang in church and was part of a Bluegrass band. She studied classical music in college. She participated in bands that played festivals and fairs. She also gave lessons in guitar, fiddling, mandolin and even clogging. "I always knew I wanted to be involved in music in some way."
In Central Kentucky, Taylor hosted a drive-time show at Songbird Radio from 3-6 p.m. "I developed loyal listeners and built a super cool fan base," she says.
"Live music is really where my heart lies. I knew 100% that I wanted to tour. And, when I was younger, I begged my parents to let me move to Nashville. The minute I got the chance to relocate to Music City, I was there," she says, adding that there's nothing like being with like-minded people who are chasing the same goal.
She says all the talent stemming from Broadway's ambiance is inspirational. She used to do five to 12 shows there a week, and still sits-in when other artists ask her to and her schedule allows.
Earlier this year, Taylor and the band produced several hit singles that gained widespread attention worldwide among audiences of all age levels. Big news is she and the band are releasing their first album on Sept. 22. Called "Out Of These Hills," she says the album reflects many hometown aspects of Eastern Kentucky.
"The album has nine tracks on it, including 'Bible Belt,' 'Rest In Peace' and a new one about my dad who passed, 'The Green Truck,' she announces. “I grew up in one of the poorest counties in the United States, and while there are amazing people and beautiful places, there's also a ton of crime and corruption that's often overlooked in Appalachia. I used ‘Bible Belt’ as a way to tell the very real story of people who just ‘do what they have to do’ to get out of their situation. It’s not something pretty, but their stories deserve to be told.”
Indeed, 'Bible Belt' has some hard-hitting lines. Drawing inspiration from a lady of the evening in her hometown providing for her child, Taylor says she felt comfortable being a storyteller and painting a reallife story, even if it didn't capture the most glamorous scenes.
"The recorded version of 'Bible Belt' was probably the fifth rendition. I actually wrote the bridge of that song on the way to the studio, while stuck in Nashville traffic," she says.
Additionally, Taylor says she's learning to process aspects of her own life through music and to be more vulnerable in sharing intimate details. For example, she didn't have the best relationship with the father, as the 'Green Truck' lyrics allude to, but as she learned, her fans totally related to that and felt her music applied to their own lives.
Taylor records at LEX Music Group, a studio located at the former Southern Comfort personal estate of icon Waylon Jennings. "The studio is where Waylon produced music, and has an incredible vibe. You can look up and almost expect to see him pouring whiskey in the corner. The whole ambiance there is spiritual," she assures.

Celebrating A Sports Car Success Story Characterized By Pioneering Spirit, Engineering Acumen And Courage
Seventy-five years ago, Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche realized his dream of the perfect sports car. It was a dream reportedly born the moment he realized he'd never be able to find a car that matched his vision of what a sports car should be. So, with the Porsche 356 No. 1 Roadster, Ferry and his team laid the foundation for the Porsche legend. On June 8, 1948, the model received its general operating permit.
Now this entire year has been filled with a celebration of seven and a half decades of Porsche achievements.
On the actual anniversary date in June, the Porsche team hosted a livestreaming event to explore the themes of Heritage, Zeitgeist, Performance, Pioneering Spirit and Dreams together with contemporary witnesses, brand ambassadors, Porsche dreamers and cars from the brand’s 75-year history.
The 356 No. 1 Roadster was the birth of the sports car brand that during this anniversary year embarked on its Porsche Vision 357. As an homage, the concept car brought the monolithic form into the present day. The Style Porsche Team manifested potential expressions of current design philosophy through the consistent enhancement of the light signature and the interplay between tradition and innovation.
“We created a very special birthday present in the form of the Porsche Vision 357, one which uses the 356 as a basis to underscore the significance of our design DNA,” says Michael Mauer, Porsche vice president of style. “The concept car is an attempt
to combine the past, present and future with coherency, featuring proportions that are reminiscent of its historical archetype and details that visualize the outlook for the future.”
For the anniversary year, the Porsche team enjoyed introducing new colors and launched new models. New colors include metallics in cherry, frozen berry, coffee beige, frozen blue, mamba green and mahogany, plus Neptune blue and chalk.
As a new concept vehicle, the Mission X is a spectacular, conceptual reinterpretation of a hypercar, with Le Mans-style doors that open upward to the front and an ultra high-performance, efficient electric powertrain.
The 2024 Cayenne debuted with a highly digitalized display and control interior concept, new chassis technology and innovative high-tech features. “It’s one of the most extensive product upgrades in the history of Porsche,” says Michael Schätzle, Cayenne vice-president product line.
LED headlights illuminate the road with a clear visual signature, an air quality system filters pollutants from the cabin, and for the first time in the Cayenne, an optional display for the front passenger can be ordered to stream videos during a trip.
Additionally, during Sept. 28 through Oct. 1, the world’s largest gathering of Porsche race cars and drivers meet at Rennsport Reunion 7, a lifestyle festival hosted at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca near Monterey, California.
The festival is a time when new and longtime Porsche enthusiasts, owners and collectors stand shoulder to shoulder with renowned drivers and legendary engineers. It's a place where new vehicle reveals and some of the rarest Porsche models ever made are found just steps away from exciting racing action, esports, fan zones and meet and greets with living icons. It’s described as part motorsport, part car show, and part family reunion as a weekend celebration for Porsche fans of all ages.
By the way, the Porsche 356 went into series production as a coupé with a different frame and a 40-PS (39-hp) rear engine instead of the original mid-engine concept. This type formed the foundation for the success of the Porsche brand. After the first largely manually built cars (coupé and convertible) 356/2 with an aluminum bodyshell, Porsche moved from Gmünd back to Stuttgart at the end of 1949. This is where series production of the Porsche 356 sports car began. The sheet-steel bodies were manufactured by Stuttgart-based Reutter body-works while engine production began in Zuffenhausen in space rented from Reutter as Porsche Werk 1 was still occupied by the Allies.
Some 78,000 units of the Porsche 356 had been built by 1965. 356 (“pre-A”, 19481955), 356 A (1955-1959), 356 B (1959-1963) and 356 C (1963-1965) were available in a range of open- and closed-top body versions and various performance levels.
As of this summer, The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart was infused with a new atmosphere through which guests can journey through 75 years of brand history. Between the prologue and the epilogue, the special exhibition covers many topics of the present and the future, with fascinating people and trailblazing technologies, digitally animated. Visitors also are introduced to the visions of 40 further dreamers whose quotations and realizations of their dreams add to the experience of the installation.

Rachyl LaGrone, self-professed artist, mom and adventurer, likes traveling, meeting new people, red wine, and creating one-of-a-kind murals.
She quips, "I was born and raised in Denver where I earned my B.S. in design. After that, I spent a year traveling through Europe, Africa, and Mexico, like a hippie. When I landed in LA, I worked as an artist for TOMS shoes and Brandy Melville."
After relocating to Nashville, she started taking custom orders. Today, she's happily painting murals nationwide while specializing in creating and installing unique and professional murals for homes and commercial spaces.
She explains that she named her business 'Murals by Loba' because she grew up going to a small fishing town in Mexico.
"My grandad was an explorer for Shell Oil, and he had a place there. As a young girl, I learned how to speak Spanish, play soccer, drink tequila and cook, in Mexico," she recalls. "Fast forward to Nashville, I’m 28 and pregnant. My son's dad was reading a book about Eddie Van Halen and his son, Wolfgang. We both loved the name, so we named our son that. It worked because my son is part German, part Native American and part musician. Loba means wolf in Spanish, and without my son, Wolf, I’d never have started my business."
Rachyl says she began painting murals full time after making art most of her life and hustling it professionally on the side for 13 years.
"My dad is an artist and an architect. He used to give me and my three older siblings drawing lessons when we were kids. My brother and I both received a degree in industrial design and then I went on to work for many different people all over the country as an artist, such as Anthropologie," she adds.
This artist has published a children's book and painted hundreds of dogs and babies for clients. "But I could not figure out how to pay all my bills with art. So, I gave up and went to law school. One semester of law school gave me the mindset and confidence to finally make art full time," she says.
"I figured 'if I can do this, I can do anything.' So I dropped out and started my business. Now I have my dream job."
In celebration of Lowe's 100th birthday during 2021, the company partnered with artists across the country to create 100 murals to represent the uniqueness of their communities. Representing Nashville was Rachyl, who spoke about passing on her passion for painting to her son.
RACHYL'S NASHVILLE-AREA PUBLIC MURALS ARE:
• Exterior wall for Caliber Coffee Co. (Donelson)
• Exterior wall for First Bank Amphitheatre (Franklin)
• Exterior wall for FWD clothing co. and Embers restaurant (12 Avenue South)
• Exterior wall for Plaza Mariachi (by the Zoo)
• Patio wall for co-op Frosè and eatery (Hillsboro village)
• Interior walls for Cledis Burger (off Elm Hill Pike)
• Exterior wall for Nicoletto’s pasta (Donelson)
• Exterior wall for Pure Barre West Nashville (Sylvan Park)
• Interior wall for Waverly Belmont library (12 Avenue South)
This fall, she announces she'll be painting the exterior for Room In The Inn, 8 Avenue South.

City Lifestyle talked with Jessica Wilkerson, lead designer and operations manager for one of the oldest family-owned businesses in Tennessee, OP Jenkins Furniture & Design. Their team has been helping clients create lovely interiors since 1907. Their flagship store is located in Knoxville and their Franklin boutique opened at 1556 West McEwen (by Whole Foods) in 2016.
Jessica, a Tennessee native who is married with two young boys and two Golden Retrievers, travels back and forth helping the teams in both stores find furnishings and accessories their customers will love. “We were excited to bring our no-nonsense design approach and our large library of vendors to Middle Tennessee,” she says. “We adore Franklin and the people in it!”
Jessica offers the following ideas about making homes reflections of personal personalities, as well as functional for families and guests.
PEOPLE OFTEN NEED TO CHANGE UP THEIR INTERIORS AS THEY GO THROUGH VARIOUS STAGES OF LIFE. HOW CAN OP JENKINS HELP NEW HOMEOWNERS JUST STARTING OUT WHO DON’T HAVE A BIG BUDGET?
“We work on all types of projects with all types of budgets. We do focus on quality, long-term pieces and are happy to create an ‘order of importance’ to ensure they’re investing their budget in the right pieces.”
HOW ABOUT HOMEOWNERS WHO HAVE LIVED IN THEIR HOUSES FOR YEARS AND WANT TO BRING THEIR DÉCOR UP TO DATE?
“This is one of my favorite things to do. When updating a home, I believe lighting is one of the biggest changes you can make to accomplish that. Our designers put together new lighting plans and then we follow with furnishings and décor.”
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR CLIENTS MOVING INTO NEW CONSTRUCTION?
“We can start planning your interiors as soon as you have a floor plan! We often come in and select all initial lighting, find the perfect spots to pop fun wallpaper, and create a beautifully furnished space from the ground up.”
AND
“Home transitions are a huge need that we work with often. The key is determining what we can bring to the new home and focusing on what is usually a change of scale from the family home to the empty nest. Our Franklin design manager, Patricia Robbins, just did this for a wonderful couple who moved from their Franklin house to a downtown condo. We were able to incorporate several pieces from their home and give them an entirely new look by adding elements that changed up the style and feel.”
“We work with clients on all sizes of projects. We can furnish an entire home or one room. What makes us special is our ability to be a one-stop- shop for everyone. We can help as much or as little as you need and our team loves working on all different sizes and styles of jobs.” OPJenkinsFurniture.com

Gone are the days of homeowners having to install a standard swimming pool with conventional features. Today's pool possibilities are filled with vast creative options to fulfill Nashville-inspired dreams, assures Dana Rondeau, co-owner and design specialist for Rondo Pools.
"While designing pools, spas and water features, we actually lead with style considerations," explains Dana.
"Style is the basis of it all, really, especially when the goal is to recreate, or to extend, the style of a home from the interior to the exterior. We want it all to match with how clients are living their lives. For example, is it a home of entertaining or one with a lot of activity for children or grandchildren? Answers to those questions help determine the size, and whether someone is best served with a cocktail pool or plunge pool, for instance."
Dana says water-related executions and features have come a long way, and that the Rondo design build team can help plan fun, functional pools that also don't jeopardize aesthetics. "We look at it as the fact that we're building future memories for clients, and we want them to love and treasure these lifelong additions to their personal paradises."
She says Rondo also delivers the most energy efficient, lowest maintenance, easiest to own pools in the industry, by using state-of-the-art technology and advanced hydraulic designs.
How Dana likes to create style through pools begins with researching the architecture of each clients' home, combined with maximizing the real estate space available for installing pools or spas while working within property setbacks or homeowner association policies. She says she then applies her years of experience to outline initial thoughts, while clients often gather pictures of examples that they like. "Then we discuss, imagine the wow factors, and how to accessorize the type of pool in mind."
Rondo clients also receive a detailed and scaled 3D perspective for highly accurate imagery of a project.
"Homeowners with small spaces should not give up. We can create very nice, intimate pools by tackling space factors in innovative, original ways," she adds.
One of Dana's favorite projects was transforming the "blank canvas" grounds and vibes of a 1994 ranch house in Williamson County into a resort style of living space. "The house was newly renovated and sits on 3 acres. By creating a pool, pool house, recreation room and firepits, we produced a private, luxury oasis
that now matches the homeowners' current, contemporary lifestyle," she says.
Dana achieved this new, modern look by using black elements and materials as a common denominator and connector, such as installing black iron doors on the house, black trim for windows and doors, black water feature bowls around the pool, and a raised black spa of SapienStone. "We worked diligently with the details, such as tiles, color selections, hardscapes and water features to create an overall organic, but very clean and sleek look," she says.
She continued the decorating theme by establishing string lights in the right places, and by adding black accent pillows, tables, planter pots and other accent pieces. "We worked in neutrals and balanced the tone-on-tone look," she says.
Doing interesting things with timeless rectangular pools to provide pristine, classic outcomes is also possible, reminds Dana. "As fashion designer Jil Sander stated: 'I am convinced that there can be luxury in simplicity.'"
In pool terminology, homeowners choose to pursue one of two pool design styles: geometric or organic. Tanning ledges, corresponding spa spaces, as well as water and fire functions, also can play important roles in today's pools.
Dana says she appreciates working with various people's preferences because it's important to "stick with being your true self." After all, Rondo has been family owned and operated since 1983, so they value commitment to originality, integrity, boldness and quality.

"Creating style through pool selections can be such a satisfying achievement, no matter if modern, traditional or transitional results are desired," says Dana Rondeau, Rondo Pools and Spas, Inc.
Mrs. Tennessee America, Amy Rottero, is on a mission to make other women feel beautiful, too. “Queen's Closet was born out of the idea of boosting young women's self-esteem by giving them a sense of who they are and what they're about and instilling confidence so that they don't make decisions that lead them down the wrong path,” she says.
Amy and her pageant director, Bernadette McCann, and her Tennessee pageant team, are working in tandem with a national platform called Victoria's Voice, which is all about drug use prevention. Queen’s Closet’s main focus, though, will be providing beautiful gowns, accessories and makeup for proms, homecomings and other events.
“We live here in Brentwood and my daughters went to Brentwood High and even here, there are girls that wouldn't be able to have access to these items," she reflects.
The organization also wants to provide tickets to attend special events, and will coordinate with local schools to connect with young women in need.

The gowns are going to be donated from previous pageant competitors and from places such as The Clothes Tree, as well as from designers. “It's been incredible how willing everyone is to be a part of it,” she adds. The nonprofit also will be in need of funds, makeup artists and venue space.
Amy won her pageant title in April. “I competed in my first pageant when I was 35,” she says. “My kids had finally reached a point where I felt like they were pretty self-sufficient and after supporting my husband with building his career, I had a moment where I was like, ‘Okay, now what?’”
Winning, she says, was wonderful. “The beautiful part was that I just fell in love with every single woman I competed with, so it was such an honor to have been chosen out of so many incredible women whom I really admire.”
In addition to setting up Queen’s Closet, and being a wife and mom, she and her husband, Adam Rottero, own Nashville Speed Shop. Amy also started Elysian Designs LLC last year.

Most of us can say we have that one staple black dress that can be worn at any occasion, and the classic look is not only popular but is elegant and timeless. It is the dress in our closet that can be accessorized to fit the event and often is the dress we go back to time and again. It is one of the most versatile items we own, never goes out of style and looks good on anyone. But how did this classic look originate?
Prior to the 1920’s, black was reserved for funeral wear, but when Coco Channel made the bold move to print a short, black dress on the cover of Vogue in 1926, all of that changed. The popularity of the black dress skyrocketed, and it became one of the most influential pieces of clothing. Chanel transported fashion from tight corsets and bustles to straightlined silhouettes. Because of its affordability, black remained a popular choice during The Great Depression. The black dress had another boom in popularity when “Breakfast at Tiffany’s’’ debuted, and Audrey Hepburn showcased her iconic black dress with long, black gloves. Today, people accessorize the black dress to fit any occasion.
We enlisted the help of stylist, Amani Skalacki, to show us how versatile the little black dress can be.
OF THE MOST influential PIECES OF CLOTHING.
“We usually think of the little black dress as a piece you wear to an event. However, because black is so flattering on all body types and skin tones, women have multiple black dresses from casual to evening,” Amani says. “I selected this collection of dresses to show the versatility of the black dress and to give women some new ideas of how to wear the evening gown with a train on a night out with her girlfriends or the traditional summer strappy maxi dress while running errands in cooler temperatures.”
Although black is a timeless, classic look, that doesn’t mean it goes without personality. You can make it your own style by accessorizing to infuse new life into a dress that you already own.
“A sequin dress can be dressed up with heels, or that same dress can be transformed into a casual outfit with the addition of tennis shoes and an oversized blazer or a denim jacket. Transform that strappy dress you have been wearing all summer into an outfit that is perfect for chilly fall temperatures. Add a narrow scarf, a leather jacket and sandals or a tall pointy boot, and you have a whole new look for an evening out,” Amani adds.
If you have a dress in the back of your closet that you haven’t worn in years, don’t be afraid to dust it off and give it new life. “Take that evening gown you wore years ago to a tailor for a little transformation. Turn it into a high low dress-top that can be worn out with girlfriends or on a date night. Pair the top with leather leggings, ankle boots, a chunky belt and some statement jewelry, and now you have a piece that pushes the boundaries of the little black dress.”
Are you looking for the best cut or style of dress that works best for your body type? Amani provided this simple guide:
