A SEAT AT JOCOVINE

Bellevue’s Beloved Bistro Pairs Seasonal Flavors with a Spirit of Effortless Hospitality

In the heart of Bellevue, where modern elegance meets small-town warmth, Jocovine Bistro invites guests to linger over fine wine, live music, and unforgettable flavors. For founder and owner Adrian Lopez, the vision for Jocovine was as vivid as it was personal from the very first moment he stepped inside the space.

CONTINUED >

Smoked Oaxacan Old Fashioned

“I always wanted to create something with live music,” Lopez recalls. “When I first walked in, I saw exactly what it could be.” Drawing inspiration from his hometown of Jocotitlán, Mexico, the name Jocovine marries “Joco” with “vine,” a nod to both his roots and his passion for wine. His goal: a community-centered gathering place where exceptional food, wine, cocktails, and music intertwine seamlessly.

Step inside and the mood is instantly set—fresh, vibrant, and unpretentious, yet undeniably sophisticated. Soft lighting plays over intimate tables, the hum of conversation mingles with the smooth notes of live music, and every detail invites guests to settle in. “I want our guests to come in, enjoy wonderful drinks, hear music, and be surrounded by an elegant ambiance,” Lopez says.

This fall, the menu is a celebration of comfort meeting creativity. The vibrant beet salad, hearty osso buco, and crave-worthy Cuban sandwich reflect the season’s best flavors, all sourced from local purveyors. On a rainy Bellevue afternoon, these dishes bring the kind of warmth that feels like home. Behind the bar, the Smoked Oaxacan Old Fashioned—complex, smoky, and just the right amount of sweet—emerges as a standout seasonal sip.

Community is woven into the very fabric of Jocovine. Over the years, its inviting atmosphere has played host to milestone moments—weddings, retirements, birthdays, and countless everyday celebrations. “This community feels like home to me,” Lopez says. “We’ve had the honor of being part of so many important moments, and many of our guests feel like family now.”

Founder and Owner,
“The Bellevue community is really special to me and I had them in mind when I created this concept.”

For first-time visitors, Lopez offers a curated path through the menu: begin with the tuna tartare, follow with the house salad tossed with seasonal fruit and spinach, move on to the tender veal piccata, and close the evening with an espresso martini—a perfect finale to the Jocovine experience.

More than just a restaurant, Jocovine Bistro is a love letter to heritage, hospitality, and the Bellevue community. Whether you come for the music, the wine, or the promise of a meal worth remembering, one thing is certain: at Jocovine, there’s always a seat waiting for you.

PUMPKIN SPICE BREAD with CREAM CHEESE FILLING

Nothing says Autumn quite like a Pumpkin Loaf

Who doesn’t love a cake baked in a loaf pan that, for reasons no one can quite explain, we all insist on calling bread? This Pumpkin Spice “Bread” is filled with the simplest, most decadent cream cheese filling - which plays the role of frosting in the scenario where this bread is actually… cake.

A few tips as you dig into this seasonal delight:

• Be sure to use pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, as the latter is very sweet and will confuse your ratio of ingredients.

• Serve warm with a freshly brewed pot of chai tea or a dark roast coffee.

• You can freeze the second loaf whole, to be savored another day. It keeps in the freezer for up to 3 months without compromising texture.

• This makes a lovely hostess gift or house warming gesture. Wrap the cooled loaf in parchment paper and twine and hand deliver to your family and friends.

Pumpkin Spice Bread with Cream Cheese Filling

Serves: 24 (Yields 2 large loaves)

Pumpkin Spice Bread

INGREDIENTS:

• 3 cups all purpose flour

• 2 ¾ cups granulated sugar

• 2 teaspoons baking soda

• ½ teaspoon baking powder

• 1 teaspoon kosher salt

• 2 ½ cups canned pumpkin puree (not pie filling)

• 1 cup avocado oil (or other neutral vegetable oil)

INSTRUCTIONS:

• 4 large eggs

• 2/3 cup water

• 1 heaping teaspoon cinnamon

• 1 teaspoon allspice

• ½ teaspoon cardamom (optional)

• ½ teaspoon ginger (or more if you love ginger)

1. Preheat the oven to 350F and prepare two large loaf pans with parchment paper and butter or non-stick spray.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Use a whisk to mix until well combined.

3. In a separate bowl, combine pumpkin puree, eggs, water, and spices. Using a hand whisk or handheld mixer, mix until well incorporated. Slowly add your dry ingredient mixture until combined. Be thoughtful not to overmix as this will create a less tender loaf. Set aside.

4. Make your Cream Cheese Filling (recipe below).

5. Fill each loaf pan about 1/3 full. Gently spoon your Cream Cheese Filling over the first layer of batter, about 1 inch thick. Use the back of a spoon to gently smooth your filling, if you wish. Pour the remaining batter over the filling to cover completely, leaving 1-1 ½ inches between the top of the batter and the top of the loaf pan to allow for a clean rise.

6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove the pans from the oven and cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing and serving.

Cream Cheese Filling

Yields: 2/3 cup Dressing | Prep Time: 10 minutes

INGREDIENTS

• 6 ounces cream cheese, room temperature

• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature

INSTRUCTIONS:

• 4 tablespoons powdered sugar

• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip together with a whisk or hand mixer until smooth.

2. Spoon the mixture onto the first layer of batter (step 5 above). Use any extra filling remaining for serving!

LUXURY AND Lasting Impact

THESE SPARKLING WINES PAIR PERFECTLY WITH CELEBRATION AND INSPIRATION

BY BREE O’BRIEN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LIFE N LIGHT

ARTICLE
Jeri and Amy in the kitchen

Founded in 2023 by Jeri and Amy Andrews, Pinstripe Wines is more than just a sparkling house; it’s a bold statement of purpose, creativity, and legacy. This duo are visionaries who have created Pinstripe with an incredible mission: 100% of Pinstripe’s profits support the Seattle Children’s Hospital Uncompensated Care Fund, turning luxury into lasting impact. Every bottle is both a celebration and a catalyst.

Jeri — as the Board Chair of the Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation — champions the heroes who serve our children, day after day, minute by minute. Amy is the heart of Pinstripe; she designs noteworthy brands, rescues kittens from the side of the road, and helps teams bring forth their mission. She also makes everyone around her feel loved. This married couple of two decades is living an ethos that isn’t just spoken, it’s felt. Through each thoughtfully made sparkling, and in all things, they simply want to leave this world a little better than they found it.

HOW DID YOU START OUT IN THE WINE INDUSTRY?

We began our journey co-founding a celebrity wine brand alongside close friends nearly a decade ago. That experience gave us an inside look at the industry — its opportunities, its shortcomings, and its incredible potential to create community. Over the years we fell in love with the craft, the people, and the way a shared glass can connect us. With Pinstripe, we’re bringing all of that forward with a sharper focus on community and creating meaningful impact. We are keenly focused on how living purposefully truly means leaving a legacy. We all want to remember and be remembered. We all want to honor those who’ve left us better.

WHAT IS THE SYMBOLISM OF THE “PINSTRIPE” IN THE COMPANY’S NAME?

The Pinstripe has always been a quiet symbol of strength and self-assuredness — it’s bold without shouting, timeless yet modern. Our original inspiration was Amy’s Uncle Jeff. His artwork played a key

Jeri Andrews

role in shaping Amy’s creative vision and nurtured an appreciation for balance, layering, and subtle yet powerful statements; much like the pinstripe itself. We honor generations of strength and creativity, where every line, like every life, tells a story of perseverance, importance and beauty.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO SUPPORT THE SEATTLE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL UNCOMPENSATED CARE FUND?

Seattle Children’s Hospital is deeply personal to us. Through Jeri’s work serving as Chair of its Foundation Board, we’ve seen firsthand the life-changing work the hospital does for children regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Every child deserves world-class care, and every family deserves the chance to focus on healing instead of worrying about the bill. This is our way of using wine as a vehicle for something far bigger than ourselves and showcasing the legacy of Uncle Jeff. He was diagnosed with HIV at the beginning of the AIDS crisis and approached his disease with ferocity and commitment to the hope of healing. One of our bottles, our 100% Pinot Meunier, Ne Jamais Abandonner, speaks specifically to how he approached his own care. In every hospital room to which he was admitted, he adhered a sign on the door that said “never give up.”  This is a lesson for life and a commitment in facing challenges, diagnoses or disease; it’s also a statement to those we support. Kids, people, families — don’t give up.

WHAT MAKES

Champagne, France. It’s labor-intensive, requires enormous patience, and is entirely worth it. Each bottle goes through a second fermentation in the bottle that creates the fine, persistent bubbles that give the wine its elegance and complexity. It’s the pinnacle of craftsmanship in sparkling wine: Luxury that’s earned, not manufactured. Enjoyment that’s felt, not faked. We recognize women in wine throughout history who left the industry better than they found it: The widow Clicquot, Louise Pommery, Lily Bollinger, and more.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE WAYS TO ENJOY NE JAMAIS ABANDONNER

“Every child deserves worldclass care, and every family deserves to focus on healing instead of worrying about the bill.”

— The Andrewses

MÉTHODE CHAMPENOISE SPECIAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THAT TYPE OF WINE FOR PINSTRIPE?

The Méthode Champenoise is the traditional French method for making sparkling wine, the same meticulous 360+ year old process used in

AND POUR TOUJOURS ET À JAMAIS ?

Ne Jamais

Abandonner (Never Give Up) is our lighthouse in a glass; our favorite welcome pour for friends and family, and an immediate way to turn a simple Tuesday dinner into something unforgettable. We strive to be a lighthouse for those in our lives: For every person who might be tossed about, tired from life, lost in the waves... so we think of this wine as our way of saying “all are welcome here and the light is on for you.”

Pour Toujours et à Jamais (For Always and Forever) is an exceptional food wine, and we love pairing it with a luxurious meal. It’s made for moments when every detail — wine, food, and company — come together in perfect harmony. It’s wonderful with fresh seafood, or a thyme-seasoned white bean and kale soup. Since this is affectionately our “always and forever” wine, we love commemorating special occasions with this bottle. It’s a tribute to a life well lived.

For us, both wines are extraordinary and also go beyond the glass. They’re about creating connections, celebrating resilience, and leaving a legacy of joy and impact that lasts long after the last sip.

quality in building, honesty, and transparency that characterizes both firms, combined with a strong team philosophy which is a focus of Hamor + Naegl.

One update to the Hamor + Naegl brand is an enhanced service department with a new approach to home management and maintenance. “It’s a customized plan based on the client’s needs and our recommendations after the home assessment. We want to do that for our clients, but also anyone who’s looking for a program to help maintain their home. That could be replacing filters, tuning up doors, small remodels, these types of projects,” Dolman says.

Dolman’s interest in home building was inspired by his uncle, an architect in San Francisco. His stepfather, Owen Roberts — the founder of Roberts Group, who passed away last year — fostered that interest. Dolman says, “As I

saw the architect side, I always wanted to understand the build side of it, how you put it together. I would always talk with Owen about aspects of building. He asked me, ‘Do you want to learn from me and join Roberts group?’ So I jumped on that opportunity, moved back to Kirkland and started working for Owen.”

Starting out as a laborer, Dolman — a self-described “numbers guy” — wanted to go into estimating and project management, but prioritized learning the nuances of building and how the whole process worked to help refine those skills. “That provided really good guidance and development, not just with Owen, but with Tim and Mark, who are project managers here, along with Randy, superintendent; their patience and willingness to help develop people - that’s what we want to do, build from within,” Dolman says.

At the time of his passing, Roberts had been working on a significant project, a home on Lake Washington that was nearly a decade in the making. Dolman first worked on the home as a carpenter, and recalls, “We did so much prep work for years and finally we’re at the last quarter-mile of the project and it’s one of his legacy projects. A lot of the team members that are on the project right now have that understanding, so it means a lot to finish it.”

Dolman says, “Owen was truly a titan in the industry. His eye for detail, his vision for not just the company, but the industry itself he was always looking to improve. He loved to connect anyone and everyone, and would rather have you succeed than himself - I’m an example of that. If you said ‘Owen Roberts’ to someone who knew him, the first thing they’d do is smile.”

Dolman plans to carry on that ethos at Hamor + Naegl. According to him, getting to know clients and understanding their dreams and motivation for building is the foundation for successful partnerships, as is complete transparency in what is feasible, and how much the project will cost. He says, “We take an honest, realistic approach, straight from the beginning we never look to provide false optimism. Cost is obviously another factor, but a third factor is trust and understanding. I tell everyone the beginning process is a lengthy conversation.”
