After hiking a very vertical 2-mile trail to Scenic Hot Springs near Skykomish, Washington, my sister and I tiptoed down the final stretch to a clearing where two natural rock pools and two smaller temporary soaking pools awaited our weary bodies. We soaked, snacked and thanked the universe for our good fortune before hiking back down. Famished, we found LouSkis Deli and ate cheeseburgers on the picnic table on the bank of the South Fork of the Skykomish River. The place was run by women and the chef looked me in the eye and smiled when she handed me my burger basket. Well, that was the best meal I've had in months. The bun was soft, not fussy, the lettuce and tomato were fresh, not afterthoughts. The beef patty was loose at the edges and cooked to perfection. Magnifique! And yes, the fact that I'd just hiked and soaked the day away, building an epic appetite made the burger better. And yes, dining with my sister makes everything taste more delicious. She is funny and laughs at my stupid jokes. She is intelligent and makes me feel important. We are extremely compatible, but not the same.
And, we both devoured our cheeseburgers that day, our best meal of the year.
In this annual FOOD and BEV issue, we pull up a chair to some newer spots and classic favorites. Enjoy the photography and interviews and don't forget to tip your servers generously!
Bon Appétit!

FURNITURE BUILT TO LAST, WITH DESIGNS FOR TODAY.
Since 2003, DutchCrafters has been redefining what it means to shop for Amish furniture. Founded by husband-and-wife team Jim and Linse Miller, the company started as a small online retailer and has grown into the largest source for Amish furniture in the U.S., with over 12,000 handcrafted pieces and showrooms in Sarasota, FL and Alpharetta.
We sat down with the Millers to learn more about their journey, what sets DutchCrafters apart and how they’re blending old-world craftsmanship with modern living.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START DUTCHCRAFTERS?
Jim: I come from Amish and Mennonite heritage, so there’s a personal connection to the community. But the real inspiration came from Linse. When we started selling niche products online in 2003, Amish crafts and outdoor décor quickly gained traction. Linse saw the potential to expand into indoor hardwood furniture. That became a quick hit with customers and became our focus.
WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE EARLY ON?
Jim: The biggest hurdle was bridging the gap between “slow” furniture—built-to-order, handcrafted pieces—and the fast-paced world of ecommerce. Back then, internet retail was an untested wild west: low prices, poor quality, fast shipping. Building customer trust was critical. We had an atypical product that did not fit the model. Many Amish woodworkers were also hesitant to partner with an online retailer. We had a lot of polite rejections in those early days.
WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH YOUR BUILDERS TODAY?
Linse: We’ve developed strong, lasting partnerships with our woodworkers. Many of them now consider us trusted business partners and friends. We visit their shops regularly, often bringing employees with us, and we’ve been welcomed into their homes, even their weddings. These relationships are built on mutual respect and shared values.
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT AMISH FURNITURE?
Jim: People often think of Amish furniture as outdated—heavy oak, harvest finishes, grandma’s style. But that’s just one slice of what’s available.
Walk into one of our showrooms and you’ll see contemporary styles, mid-century modern and more. Walnut, rustic oak, hickory and maple are popular woods, and we have more finish options than I can count. And for the record, we love our customers who are grandmas! But our designs are made to resonate with every generation and a wide range of style preferences.
WHAT MAKES DUTCHCRAFTERS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FURNITURE RETAILERS?
Linse: Authenticity is a big one. Every piece we sell is solid wood, made by the Amish in America. Some retailers make similar claims, but customers should read the labels. Our barnwood really comes from old barns. Our live edge is the real deal.
Jim: Customization is another differentiator. Everything is built to order, and we make non-standard customizations all the time. It’s something we do really well. We’re also the largest Amish furniture retailer in the country. Our website offers over 12,000 pieces, and our showroom staff help customers navigate all those options with personalized service.
WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON FOR DUTCHCRAFTERS?
Linse: We’re expanding our design services, including in-home consultations and tailored solutions for business clients. Recently, we worked with the Culinary Institute of America, providing new dining tables and chairs for their main sanctuary.
Some retailers make similar claims, but customers should read the labels. Our barnwood really comes from old barns. Our live edge is the real deal.
We’ve also worked with restaurants, clubs, hotels and colleges in the Atlanta area and nationwide.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE?
Jim: We’re proud of the awards we’ve received over the years, but the ones that mean the most are for being a “Best Place to Work.” Our employees are the heart of DutchCrafters. Their passion, creativity, and commitment shape everything we do. We’ve built an intentional, values-driven culture that supports and recognizes them—and that’s a big reason for our success.
DutchCrafters proves that honoring tradition doesn’t mean sacrificing innovation. With a dedication to craftsmanship, authenticity and customer service, the Millers have found a unique balance: crafting heirloom-quality furniture built for today’s lifestyles and tomorrow’s generations.

At Village Park Milton, dining isn’t just about mealtime—it’s about creating experiences that bring people together. With a culinary program that rivals Alpharetta’s most stylish restaurants, the community has become a destination, offering everything from panoramic dining rooms to intimate wine tastings.
Founded with the belief that senior living should be social, active and vibrant; Village Park has redefined the concept
of retirement communities. Nowhere is that more evident than at the Milton location, which recently unveiled a recent expansion adding nearly 100 new residences along with a host of new food and beverage offerings.
At the heart of Village Park Milton are its signature restaurants, each designed with its own character and purpose.
“Food is an art form, a love language, a cloak of comfort,” says JP Burns, Food and Beverage Director at Village Park Milton. “The goal of the culinary team is not
only to nourish, but to inspire memories, conversations, tease the taste buds and broaden the scope of culinary creations.”
The 555, named for the community’s original address on Wills Road, is a full-service American restaurant with a distinctly Southern spirit. Its millwork interiors nod to Milton’s history, while the menu celebrates seasonal flavors. Floor-to-ceiling windows open to sweeping views of Wills Park Equestrian Center, creating a backdrop that makes every meal feel special.
Seated right next door, The Blue Hen Bistro serves lighter fare—think fresh salads, sandwiches and morning coffee. For
“DINING ISN’T AN AFTERTHOUGHT—IT IS A CENTRAL PIECE OF LIFESTYLE.”
many residents, it’s a beloved part of their daily routine, a place to meet a neighbor, grab a bite, or linger over conversation.
The latest addition is The 119. Located on the west side of the community, The 119—named for the new Alpharetta highway address—carries forward the same thoughtful design with a contemporary edge. Expansive windows look out onto the plush pavilion of cottages and bungalows, while the private dining space offers 270-degree views of the East building, bungalow pavilion and encompassing treeline. “The 119 was an opportunity to elevate the dining experience to levels above other senior living communities
by bringing unique ingredients, classic techniques and passion to the plate,” says
Culinary Director JP Burns.
A full bar, wrapped in sleek metallic trim, adds to the allure, bringing an elevated atmosphere for both residents and guests.
Village Park Milton’s commitment to food and beverage extends beyond the restaurants. Its wine room is a destination of its own, offering curated selections of domestic and imported wines. Tastings, pairings and social events make it a space where residents can discover
new flavors—or revisit old favorites—while sharing stories around the table.
“Village Park Milton incorporates many elements of fine dining from the tableware to furniture and décor, the service and even the kitchens themselves,” Burns says.
It’s this sense of community, woven through every restaurant and gathering space, that sets Village Park apart. Dining isn’t an afterthought—it is a central piece of lifestyle.
For those seeking a residence that blends the comfort of home with the excitement of new and luxurious experiences, Village Park Milton offers something rare. The recent expansion has created new opportunities to join the community with thoughtfully designed residences that are steps away from a thriving culinary scene.
From casual bistro bites to elegant dining and evenings spent in the wine room, food at Village Park is about more than what’s on the plate (although that is important, too)—it’s about connection, memory and joy—and most importantly a luxurious sense of fine dining and hospitality.

Jang Su Jang's Visual Dining
At Jang Su Jang, as you gather around the table for a meal with friends, try to wait until everyone's food has been served. It will be tough not to sneak a bite, but you'll be rewarded for your patience when you stop to admire the entire table of food. The landscape of the freshness and flavors will be as visually delicious as the meal to come. We asked owner and chef Stephen Cho about the dishes and his vision for this season of dining.
Every dish is thoughtfully crafted year-round with locally sourced ingredients, ensuring each bite is as fresh as it is flavorful. Our menu is designed to pair beautifully with a crisp Chardonnay or a bold Cabernet, though many guests prefer the cultural experience of Soju—a beloved Korean distilled spirit with a clean, neutral profile reminiscent of vodka, yet with a gentler alcohol content. For the adventurous, a “Soju Bomb”—a lively combination of Soju and beer—is highly recommended and always a crowd favorite.
For more than 25 years, we have honored a cherished tradition with our team. Our waitstaff and kitchen crew are gifted with LA Galbi—succulent Korean BBQ beef short ribs—after originally receiving other protein supplements that, over time, were unanimously replaced with this signature indulgence. This ritual reflects not only our appreciation for the people behind the scenes, but also the timeless appeal of our BBQ. In fact, our BBQ secured First Place for Best Entrée at the 2025 Taste of Alpharetta
Beyond the accolades, it is the consistency of our classics—beloved dishes we have served for a quarter of a century—that has made Jang Su Jang the true “meeting place” for our loyal community of diners. With every meal, we carry forward a legacy of flavor, fellowship and tradition.
Here's what's on the table:
1. Spicy Rice Cake: Sauteed rice cakes w/ spicy sauce, egg, fish cakes, fried shrimp and dumplings
2. LA Galbi: Korean BBQ beef short ribs
3. Bibimbap: Rice topped w/ vegetables, egg + your choice of beef or chicken
4. Charcoal Daeji Bulgogi: Char-grilled – Non spicy marinated pork
5. Daeji Bulgogi: Spicy marinated pork
6. Lettuce Wrap: Your choice of Beef Bulgogi, Spicy Pork or Chicken Teriyaki
7. Seafood Pancake: Assorted seafood w/ scallions

Sure, we love cooking at home, but now and then we deserve a break, to be pampered, fed and inspired. These restaurants and a home chef are waiting to do just that.
We inquired about seasonal ingredients, hospitality and the dishes that the staff recommends.
Seasonal features: This fall, I am most excited to highlight the Pomelo Salad topped with Foie Gras. Pomelo is a prized local fruit in Thailand, known for its refreshing citrus sweetness and delicate texture. When paired with rich, buttery foie gras, the flavors balance beautifully—the light, juicy pomelo cuts through the richness, while roasted coconut, chili, and fresh herbs bring layers of complexity. This dish is a perfect example of how we bring together premium ingredients and seasonal Thai produce to create something truly special.
Perfect pairing: Pair this dish with either a Pinot Noir or a Riesling. A light-bodied Pinot Noir offers bright red fruit notes and gentle acidity that complement the richness of the foie gras without overpowering the delicate pomelo. On the other hand, a crisp, aromatic Riesling—with its lively acidity and touch of sweetness—beautifully enhances the citrus notes of the pomelo while balancing the buttery foie gras. Both wines create a refined and harmonious pairing.
Inside tips: During our break time, we always cook and share a meal together as a team. A typical family meal is a set of stir-fried dishes and a soup served with steamed rice—simple, comforting, and a favorite way for the staff to recharge before getting back to service. Two dishes that our team especially enjoys are the classic Thai Omelet (Khai Jiao), crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, and Pad Krapao, a flavorful stir-fry with holy basil that is always satisfying.
What diners say: Our regular diners often say that PRU Thai Kitchen feels like home—where warm hospitality meets authentic Thai flavors. What makes us special is the care we put into every dish, staying true to traditional recipes while adding thoughtful, seasonal touches. It’s comfort food with a fresh twist, served with heart.
2685 Old Milton Pkwy #150 PruThaiKitchen.com
Seasonal features: Shrimp Bisque soup, made with all the fresh ingredients with sherry for the luxury touch, Butter Poached Lobster and mix grill combo.
Perfect pairing: A must-try would be our speciality smoked cocktails.
Seasonal features: Our employees are welcome to have any dish and also I cook some home meals as well, however for a gathering I would highly recommend mix grill combos along with mix dips which is great for sharing.
What diners say: They like peaceful mornings and evenings and party nights during the weekend, late nights as well. We offer a homely feel and freshly made delicious food.
11500 Webb Bridge Way CreationSocialHouse.com
Seasonal features: As the seasons change, it’s the perfect time to gather around the table without the stress of planning or cooking. This fall look for Roasted Lamb Loin with Wild Mushrooms, served alongside herb-infused roasted beet risotto and caramelized cipollini onions, roasted garlic sauce.
What diners say: Chef Philippe Haddad is an acclaimed Belgian-born chef with over 40 years of global culinary experience. Based in Atlanta, he creates unforgettable fine dining experiences for private clients, luxury brands and distinguished communities. A mentor and philanthropist, he blends European technique with heartfelt hospitality. Chef Philippe is now accepting private dining dates for fall and winter 2025. Whether you’re hosting a small gathering, a special celebration, or simply want to enjoy a restaurant-quality meal at home, he’ll craft an unforgettable experience, start to finish. Menus are tailored to your tastes and the season, featuring signature dishes and luxurious touches.
ChefPhilippeHaddad.com
Seasonal features: This fall, we are rolling out a dish at certain locations called 'Borani Kale'. This is a house strained yogurt mixed with crispy kale and fried onion. This is a play on a classic Persian dip called Borani Spinach. Our spin uses kale instead of spinach. The spinach version usually has the spinach mixed in, which makes it kind of soggy. Our version keeps the kale crispy, and we mix it in at the last second to create the variation in crunch as you eat it!
Perfect pairing: Because this dish uses a thick, rich yogurt, a wine or cocktail that can cut through the richness is ideal. A lean white wine, like Gruner Veltliner or Riesling would work well, or a higher acid Blanc de Blancs Champagne. The Leitz non-alcoholic Riesling would be a great nonalcoholic pairing.
What diners say: I think our regular diners come to Rumi's over and over again for two main reasons: (1) The food and experience is consistent. You can always count on your favorite foods tasting the same each time you come. And (2) we have an incredible staff that really makes connections with our guests.
