There’s life in the old girl yet! At age 75 this old girl has finally done something she has been threatening to do for a good few years. I bought a bike! Not one of your fancy electric specials with more gears than there are spokes in the wheels. Nor one of the ones that every teenager in the 60s had, three gears and a sprung carrier on the back for the school suitcase. Oh no – this is a simple sit up and beg, only the one gear, a cute little tinkly bell and a wire basket in front of the handlebars. Just like something straight out of Miss Marple. And I love it. I hadn’t really intended to purchase a bike when favourite editor lady and I were out the other day. All we were intending to do was to visit The Bikery in Huntly in order to write about it. But the opportunity was too good to miss as this little black bike had caught my eye and I simply weakened! Anyway, enough of the new bike: let’s get down to telling you all about The Bikery. This is a marvellously simple concept which has grown arms and legs and is doing a lot of good in, and for, the local community. People who have spare bikes that they no longer need can donate them to The Bikery where they are carefully checked over, reconditioned if necessary, and then spruced up ready for sale. Proceeds from the sale go towards helping Gordon Rural Action, a charity that has been working for the community for over 40 years. They have adopted a disused building in Gordon Street that had stood empty since 2018. Once it was a bakery and the front door still has the glass panel etched with a smiling baker. It has been turned into a thriving shop and workshop and they are to be congratulated for doing their bit towards regeneration in the town. The project intends to reduce the number of bikes entering landfill: however, not all bikes

come to them in pristine order and should any bike be beyond repair, then it can be used for spare parts and even the tyres can be sent to a recycling centre. Working in the shop was front of house man Stuart. The workshop is led by Darren, who we only briefly met as he had popped in on his day off. Darren is ably assisted by a team including Adam and Gary who is one of the many volunteers, between them they have a lot of years of experience. It is a very friendly place, and you can pop in and ask for advice any time you are passing. They will also give your bike a health check if you feel that it needs it. You need not worry about their expertise as all the mechanics are Velotech trained to at least Bronze level and the lead mechanic is Gold Velotech trained to ensure a high standard of repairs to all the bikes, whether they be for children or for serious mountain bikers. Their message is simple: to provide bikes for sale for all age groups and if they do not have your size available they will take details and contact you when they do. This year they have added brand new bikes to their range as well. They offer bike servicing at £35 for a 12-point check, with any new parts being charged separately. They also offer bike parts for repairs and, last but by no means least, they offer volunteering opportunities for any person who is interested in learning the trade. Why not pop in any time between 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Friday and see for yourself? 49 GORDON STREET, HUNTLY T: 07572 674 501 BIKERY@GORDONRURAL.ORG.UK Registered charity no: SC004883

CHARITY

Moray School Bank

M

oray School Bank are going to Kenya! They are travelling to Mombasa in June 2024 to volunteer at Destiny Garden School, a charity their founder Debi has supported for almost fifteen years. A bit about the school Destiny Garden School is situated in Mtongwe, one of the poorest suburbs of Mombasa, on Kenya’s coast. The school opened in May 2009 with one hundred and sixty children and seven classes and now has over four hundred and seventy children and twelve classes all with qualified teachers, providing children

from infants to fifteen years old with a good education. Many of the children are orphans and some are HIV positive. The main aims of the school are: •

Providing all the children with a good standard of education

Bringing out the full potential of each and every child

Ensuring all children receive a good meal during the school day.

Offering educational programmes on HIV/ AIDS and also caring for those already infected by HIV/AIDS

Offering training and counselling to all, especially the orphaned children

You can find out more about the school and what they do on their website - https://www. destinygardenschool.website/ 12

An incredible group of seven young volunteers are making the trip and they will be accompanied by three adults. The group have been challenged to raise £9,100 before June to make the trip possible. They have been working very hard fundraising for nearly two months now and already have a whopping £3600 raised. The young people are aged thirteen to seventeen years old and have a number of fundraising events organised for the coming weeks which should take them over half way for their fundraising.

In Mtongwe the team will be supporting the school with a range of things like cooking, arts, sports, music and classes. They will also be sharing our culture and learning about theirs. Destiny Garden School are looking to create a space for games like, football, netball etc. the cost of creating a games field is £29,000, however, an interim measure would be £5,000. The young people are appealing to local businesses and community members to donate and help them support the school by enabling them to raise between £5,000 and £29,000 to give the children a place to enjoy physical education. The field they use is flooded regularly and there are large stones which need to be removed as they are causing injury. If you want to help to make this possible, you can donate to the go fund me that is set up – https://gofund.me/654799e7 Or alternatively you can give your support by following Moray School Bank on social media and attending their fundraising events. Thank You!

EVENT

Lucy and Tommy

Lucy’s Fight 10 Year’s Diagnosed Charity Ball

O

n Saturday 18th November Lifestyle were delighted to host a table at Lucy’s Fight Charity Ball at Inchberry Hall.

This event was organised by the amazing Lucy Smith, probably better known to you all as Lucy Lintott and her fabulous team of helpers. Saturday was an awful day of rain, which unfortunately didn’t let up as all the guests arrived at Inchberry in their finery. A lovely dry and warm hall did however await as they entered accompanied by a lone piper, and then greeted to a wonderful selection of aperitifs. A choice of very nice gin flavours or equally delicious alcohol free options, all served by Badenoch’s. Gin kindly donated by Avva Gin. Lucy was waiting to greet her guests, looking stunning in red and as always with that dazzling smile. This is one amazing young woman, and I am always humbled in her presence.

16

The hall was beautifully decorated with gorgeous floral and balloon arrangements on every table. After the delicious drink’s reception, we were all welcomed by our compere for the evening, Jim Royan. The fun started with a game of Heads and Tails. Morag Martin of Ceamara Photography sitting with us on the Lifestyle table, said. “ I always go out first in this game” and right enough on the first call Morag had to sit down, but Jim said that was just a trialrun to tell you all how it works, you can all stand up again. Would you believe it, Morag stood up and stayed standing right to the very end and was the delighted winner of a £300 voucher for the Apex hotel group. Morag certainly had to eat her words, she can never again say, “I always go out first in this game” The Selkirk Grace was then given by Bob Cunningham with his own additional verses, nae sure fit Burns wid hae thocht!!

A fabulous meal was then served, beautifully prepared and presented by Wilde Thyme caterers. I cannot recommend highly enough, it was delicious. After our meal, it was then time for the highlight of the evening. Our beautiful hostess for the evening, the amazing Lucy Smith BEM, Moray MND fundraising warrior as she was described on the programme. A very apt description considering the £300,000 Lucy has raised for MND. Lucy’s speech, which you can actually watch www.facebook.com/lucysmndfight and as Lucy says “You will either laugh or cry, my intention was to make people laugh”. I for one, and looking round the room I wasn’t alone, did both. Lucy welcomed everyone and blamed Tommy for the five-year gap since her last speech and for those who don’t know, Lucy has had her two beautiful children in that time.

Lucy explained about her MND diagnoses 10 years ago and how that, in the simplest terms means she is slowly going paralysed. Lucy did suggest you google it if you want to know more. Lucy told us, the evening was a celebration that she had passed the ten-year milestone, remembering that when she was diagnosed, if you reached eight years you were classed a long survivor. Lucy has definitely beaten the odds, not only beating MND for a decade, but having the two lovely babies she was told she could never have. So, Lucy wanted to tell us ten things that she had learned while, in her words, “knowing I’m dying” Please go and listen to the full speech yourself but here is a very shortened version. 1.

Family and friends are everything.

2.

Be stubborn!

3.

Scary movies are only fun if you can run away. I’m screwed!!

8.

9.

Memories and experiences are everything.

10. Money is an object accepted for payment, you can’t take it with you so spend it TONIGHT Lucy received a long and very well-deserved standing ovation after her witty, thought provoking and heart wrenching speech. The Grand Auction followed with Scott Chapman of Thainstone Mart in control. With fifteen amazing items available to tempt the audience, Scott managed to achieve considerable sums of money for each item. Well done to all who managed to win a bid for

these wonderful items that had all been kindly donated. A raffle followed with the most incredible amount of again, donated prizes. Tommy, Lucy’s husband, gave the vote of thanks to everyone that made the night possible, but his biggest thanks went, of course, to Lucy. Tommy explained how Lucy has not let her diagnoses at age 19 years old beat her and in fact she turned it into a massive drive. This has earned her many accolades such as Scotswoman of the Year, pride of Scotland and a BEM, to name a few. Beating MND has taken huge courage, strength and stubbornness but she wouldn’t have achieved what she has without it. Tommy proposed a toast and asked us all to stand and shout as loud as we could “You are an inspiration” Lucy you truly are! www.facebook.com/lucysmndfight

HYPNOBIRTHING

The Christmas Season By Sophia Hanson

We’re fast approaching the time of year when little people will dedicate time to write their Christmas list for Santa Claus. In many ways it reminds me of a birth plan! A birth plan is often mocked because people expect that it will be thrown out the window as soon as labour starts. Although it’s true that we cannot plan our baby’s birth and expect it to go accordingly, the point of the birth plan is not to lay down the law (just as a list for Santa is only really a good point of reference). A birth plan offers the following benefits: •

It gets you familiar with the range of options you might face.

It supports you to have open dialogue with your care providers.

If you have a birth partner, it gives you peace of mind that they know what you want and can advocate for you if necessary.

It supports you to prepare psychologically for giving birth.

It encourages you and your birth partner to act as parents and a team from the get-go.

It helps you prepare for the unexpected which can alleviate worries.

It helps you to get clear on your birth preferences which means you can set your unconscious mind on the right path.

What other benefits can you think of? I’ve worked with many couples who were at first adamant they did not want to have a c-section.

When the time came, and it was the best option for them and their baby they quickly came to terms with it because we’d discussed it during their birth preparation classes. Here’s what one couple recently said about an unplanned c-section: “This morning we felt so calm and relaxed before going into theatre that we’ve been napping. My wife went to her relaxing place in her mind during the epidural and the whole thing just went like a dream. We cannot thank you enough for helping us achieve this wonderful birth even though it’s not what we said we wanted to start with, it was definitely the right birth for us on the day.” So, before you dismiss a Santa list or your birth wish list, consider how it might really help you and get those thoughts committed to paper (perhaps not post them to the north pole though!). Have a wonderful festive break.

Speyside Spa - Great Expectations

E

xperts say we all have a ‘vessel’, a bucket in my case, that handles our capacity for worry and stress. When it’s overflowing, we certainly know about it, with panic, anxiety, and a feeling of being overwhelmed by life in general. Everyone’s bucket is different. Some are large, some much smaller. Some are already half filled by health or relationship issues, financial worries, or job pressures. Most people will have a mixture of all sorts. Luckily, there are things you can do: Time out – easy to say, but even 20 minutes for a bath, a coffee with a friend, or a good book will help. Exercise – just a walk, some stretches, maybe yoga, will focus your mind and give it a break from the tangle of thoughts sideswiping your smile. Laughter – try a comedy show or calling a pal to share old anecdotes. Both will calm your curdling brain. Self-care – spending some time on you, for a massage, hair appointment, manicure or

26

www.speysidespa.com

pedicure is another proven way to empty that bucket. The holiday season, when we express our deepest feelings by overspending, is almost here. ‘It’s beginning to COST a lot like Christmas’, is the new song, as our credit cards sweat, and the January statement feels far far away. The food shop needs planning, the decorations, the parties, the gifts, the relations…! Your bucket is filling up with the thought! This year, the best gift to yourself is a moment of serenity. Try to find calm in the chaos, untangle your tinsel and breathe through the stress. After all, it’s the Great Expectations we place on ourselves that bring the biggest pressures. Go easy on yourself and unwrap the joy within the season. May the only vessel overflowing is the one you’re holding in your hand!

TRACY GOES TRAVELING

Our Scottish Islands Adventure By Tracy Chalmers In the October/November issue of Lifestyle, Tracy told us about the first week of her Scottish Highland Adventure, which she spent in Orkney. Read on to find out about her adventures in week two. Once we were back on the mainland, we spent the next few days exploring some of the North Coast 500, stopping at the stunning Oldshoremore beach, the ruined Arveck Castle and Kylesku bridge. We stayed at Scourie Campsite where I managed to take a dip in the sea. We had a rather chilled out day in Ullapool eating seafood and watching the boats come and go until it was time for our ferry to the Isle of Lewis and Harris. We packed in so much on our first day. Starting at the famous Calanais Standing Stones. These 5000 year old stones are visited by many, and they are said to have inspired the Craigh na Dun Stones in Outlander. Just along the road we found Dun Carloway Broch, the broch was constructed in around 200 BC and during excavations there is evidence it may have been used till around 1000 AD. One of my favourite places we found by chance is The Sheiling. The wee house was 28

built in 2017 by the Barvas and Brue historical society to let people know what a shieling hut looked like in the past. They included a bed and cooking utensils on the inside as well as a cow scratching stone outside. The attention to detail was amazing and is definitely worth a visit. We made a stop at the Blackhouse Village

Oldshoremore beach

at Gerrannan which was unfortunately closed as it was Sunday, but we did manage to view from the grassy area beside the car park. Some of the houses are actually holiday homes. It would have been great to see inside, but there is always next time. Our last stop of the day was the Butt of Lewis lighthouse, and right next to it we found a beautiful beach called Port Stoth, where I had to have a swim. It was amazing, the best place I have ever swam, the colour of the water was out of this world. That night we stayed at the Uncle Croft Campsite where we were treated to a fantastic sunset, while we enjoyed some delicious brownies from the campsite honesty box. Next day we headed to Harris. We were blessed with great weather, so plenty of chances to get out on the motorbike to explore. The beaches in Harris are just stunning and stretch out for miles and miles. We stayed at Horgabost beach campsite, so we had plenty of

Drone images by Graham Chalmers

opportunities for some swimming and the dogs loved it too. While exploring, we did find a rather beautiful church in Rodel called St Clements, which is quite a grand church built around the 16th century, it actually featured in one of the Call the Midwife Christmas specials. It is well worth the drive to go and visit and there is a small harbour just along the road that is also worth a look. Our last couple of days on the island were spent in Stornoway, which is a lovely town, larger than I expected. There are plenty of lovely shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars. We took a walk round one of the trails at Lews Castle. The grounds and castle are beautiful, nice and close to the centre of town so easy to access. Before we got the ferry back to the mainland, we headed along to the Iolaire disaster memorial. HMY Iolaire Admiralty Yacht sank at the entrance of Stornoway harbour on New Year’s Day 1919 containing 280 servicemen returning from

WW1. Over 200 passengers died, many of them being islanders. Next to the ferry terminal we also found the Iolaire Centenary memorial art installation which I had seen the day before but hadn’t realised was connected to the disaster. The memorial consists of 280 wooden poles set out in the shape of the yacht, each pole representing a passenger of the Iolaire and looks different throughout the day depending on the tide. We had stunning blue skies on the way back to Ullapool on the ferry and were treated to some dolphins swimming alongside. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera handy, but it was a wonderful experience all the same. Sadly, it was time for home, we still have so much to see in Orkney and the Outer Hebrides but there is always next time………

TRACY GOES OUTSIDE

Exploring Elgin

Tracy undertakes lovely walks all over our beautiful country and we are delighted she has agreed to provide Lifestyle readers with the inside knowledge that she has gleaned from her many adventures. I hope you enjoy Tracy’s walks? Please do let us know and send us some photos. This is a great walk which is easy to access during the winter months with plenty of notable historical places along the way. Start the walk from the High Street Fountain on the Plainstones (IV30 1BW). Facing the war memorial head along the High Street. Passing by the St Giles Church that dominates the High Street with its Greek style pillars. The church was designed by Archibald Simpson and built between 1825 and 1828. Distance: 3 miles Time: 1½ - 2hrs Level: Easy with some elevation Terrain: Pavement, woodland and grass track Access: Arrive by car, parking available beside the Elgin Town Hall IV30 1UL (parking £1 for the day). The stagecoach bus station is close to the start of the walk with great bus links 32throughout the area.

Just behind St Giles Church you will find the Mercat Cross or Muckle Cross. These are found in many towns and cities and are a Scottish name for a market cross where historically the right to hold a regular market or fair has been granted by a monarch, bishop or barron. Keep heading along the High Street until you get to the Muckle

Cross pub, here take a left crossing over the road, go towards the Shopmobility building and take the opening to the left. From here walk through the car park towards the two blocks of flats, here you will find a footbridge over the main road. Once over the footbridge take a right passing by Grant Lodge and the Elgin Bowling Club heading towards the Cathedral that you will see in front of you. Elgin Cathedral, is also known as the Lantern of the North, dating back to the 13th century. This beautiful building was almost completely destroyed in 1390 by the Wolf of Badenoch, today the Cathedral is open for tours, or you can admire from afar. To the left of the Cathedral, you will find the opening to the Biblical Gardens which is also well worth a visit. Carry straight on and cross the bridge over the river Lossie, from the bridge take a left and pass by the chip shop heading into Kingsmill Court. You will see a large warehouse on the left, turn left before the warehouse in front of you will see a fenced path that runs along the side of the river.

reaches the road, cross over another footbridge to your right. Once over the bridge take a left and just follow the path alongside the river. You will get some glimpses of the impressive Mansion House Hotel along the way. You will pass by a closed off footbridge, carry on until you come to the new one. Head over the new bridge and turn left following the path, it will turn right until you eventually come out at a road. Head along Hill Street once you pass the building with the map you will find the path up Lady Hill. Take the zigzag path until you reach the monument at the top that was built to honour the 5th Duke of Gordon. Next to the monument you will find the remains of Elgin Castle, and in front of you a fantastic view across Elgin. From here take the steps to your left, back down to the street, turn left and head back to the start of the walk. Just before you head along the High Street you will find a bronze statue of Alexander Stewart also known as the Wolf of Badenoch who set the Cathedral alight. Once back on the High Street it is time for a well-deserved coffee and cake!

Head along this path until you come to another bridge back over the river. Keep an eye out for wildlife on the river, I saw ducks and heron along the way. Once over the bridge, turn right and follow the path around Cooper Park passing by the Cooper Park pond, there are usually plenty of swans and ducks paddling in the pond. When you get to the junction of the A941 take the underpass and carry straight on until you pass by the sports centre. Once the path

WELLBEING

Keep Connected this Winter!

T

his winter we may have worries about our own and other’s wellbeing. It can be a time of excess and a time for reflection, both can be wonderful as well as a challenge for many. One of the best ways to stay well is to think about five areas that we can do something in each day. These five areas spell out the acronym CHIME – Connection, Hope, Identity, Meaning and Empowerment. Moray Wellbeing Hub, who deliver courses and events in Moray to improve wellbeing and create CHIME, have created a quick check list to help you think about CHIME this winter. This list is just as useful for helping others you might be worried about too. Connection: Humans are social beings and need one another to stay well. Reach out daily to people you value that make you feel good. It could just be a friendly hello to a neighbour or a text between colleagues but should feel meaningful and authentic. Hope: Check out your levels of hope and optimism. If these start to dip reach out to people, you trust or support services like our

38

weekly wellbeing drop-ins in Forres, Elgin and Buckie, Breathing Space or the Samaritans. Suicide and self-harm are topics we often are shy about addressing. If we talk about them, we can save lives, including our own, and show others we care. Identity: Having a role or purpose is important for everyone regardless of their age. Reflect on what you do for others. If it is too much, then consider setting boundaries to give you some personal time. If it is not enough, look at how you can get busy over the season, perhaps with some volunteering. Meaning: Winter means Christmas to many people but not everyone. Find your meaning in the season, this might not follow religious or

cultural norms around you. Seek out others who can give you ideas on how to celebrate or mark the season. Empowerment: If you need more ideas on how to support your own and others’ wellbeing visit Discover Pathways to Wellbeing, an online tool to help give you ideas and connect you with what can work. FINANCE

EFT

ASSET FINANCE Anyone who has started a business, is running or wants to grow their venture knows cashflow can be tricky at times. Raising money for business opportunities is a challenge and timing, the right cost, reliable providers, and good conditions are key to your business being a success. This is where Charlie Wilson from EFT Asset Finance can help. With a background predominately in agriculture and plant, he spent his early years “hands on” in the field. Being closely involved in equipment sales has given him first-hand experience of both sides of the fence, from running his own business, buying and selling plant/machinery and equipment needed for the business. It is this experience and know-how that makes him stand out and gives him the knowledge of what businesses and their owners need and what challenges they are faced with every day.

(funding machinery and plant) in the form of traditional HP agreements, but there are now many more solutions on offer. This means that if the customer requires a new machine, wishes to buy new premises or land, or wants to restructure the business to improve cashflow, then I can help”.

EFT

ASSET FINANC

Now, as a self-employed Finance Broker, Charlie has turned his passion into a profession, dedicating his time to help business owners secure finance solutions. Based in the North East of Scotland he can help new start-ups to long established customers across various industries, but his passion remains in agriculture, plant, haulage, commercial and the utilities sectors. Charlie explains “The finance market has changed greatly over the years. The day-to-day business is still predominately asset finance

An example of a difficult situation Charlie helped a business overcome:A business was experiencing cashflow issues and had several machines on finance. Working with the original finance providers, the finance was paid off. The machines and some chosen assets were then re-financed which in turn provided the well needed cash flow into the business in exchange for one new finance agreement with more affordable monthly payments. Releasing the cash and achieving a lower monthly cost has given this business breathing space and allowed them to trade through a lean period. Charlie is always more than happy to meet with you. For anything financial, with a friendly, prompt, competitive and informative service contact Charlie at EFT Finance North.

DE-CLUTTERING

ROSIE BARRON IS THE TIDY COO Rosie Barron is The Tidy Coo, an award winning Declutter Coach and Professional Organiser, Scotland’s only KonMari Master and APDO’s most northernmost member. She lives in Aberdeenshire with her husband and four children and a huge menagerie of animals who all bring joy.

is tidied. With so many beings in my home, it is a rare day that finds us “Visitor Ready”, but give me twenty minutes warning, and it can be. There are two secrets to this. The first is that the fewer things you have, the easier it is to keep them tidy.

Imagine arriving at a beautiful hotel room. It’s clean, nicely decorated and there’s no clutter. There are the perfect amount of toiletries in the bathroom, the towels are white and fluffy, the bed beautifully made and inviting. Why is it that we love to stay in hotel rooms? And why is it that it seems so hard to recreate the feeling at home? The thing that I most love about my home (other than the beings that live in it with me) 50is the ease with which it

This summer, I let go of (donated, recycled, sold or binned) fifty-six binbags “worth” of stuff. As a Professional Organiser, I didn’t think that I had a huge amount in my home to begin with, but lives change and, even with mindful shopping, things build up. So I made a pact with myself at the beginning of the summer that I would, once again, go through my home to see whether all the items I had still brought me joy. I paced myself, going through different categories each week – clothes, toiletries, linens, cleaning, kitchen equipment, books, papers, toys, pet belongings, ornaments, tools, garden equipment and so on. If it was in my home, it got checked. It was a rare category that didn’t have something in it that could be let go because it no longer supported our lives. Have I missed any of it? Certainly not. Having chosen

positively what to keep, I knew that the things I was letting go of had done their work for me and could be happily released. With the excess out of my home it is, once again, easy to keep tidy. It is, most certainly, not a minimalist box (not that I have anything against minimalism, it just doesn’t bring me joy), but it is easy to put things away and everything has a place to go. The second secret to keeping things in order is to have a routine. I don’t mind admitting that I’m scatty. My brain goes at a hundred miles an hour, often in a hundred different directions at once. I can distract myself in the middle of a sentence when something shiny appears in my brain and then get distracted from the shiny thing by the sparkly one. By the time this article is published, I will have my official ADHD diagnosis. If something is not pinned down in writing, then I will forget it, particularly if I am doing something else. To deal with this, I have my Standard Operating Procedures. As anyone in business will know, standard operating procedures are what you use to keep your business running smoothly. They are the checklists and routines that save time and stop the wheels coming off! Having them in my home means that anyone can come in and pick up if things go wrong (as they surely will!). I have several sets of SOPs. I have a daily checklist on the fridge which has everything on it that needs doing. I have a weekly cleaning list with the things on it that need cleaning. I have a laundry list of the different laundry that needs washing every day. I have a four week rolling

menu so that we are not struggling to decide what to cook every day. These all took time to decide on and to implement but having put the time and energy into making them, they have saved a huge amount in return. So, repeat after me, “Organisation is a learned skill, and I can learn it.” I am not a naturally organised person and I learned how to be organised - if I can learn this, ANYONE can. Learning a new skill takes time, effort, energy and many repetitions. Organisation is a skill worth learning if only because it makes your entire life easier. Don’t be disheartened if it doesn’t come easily, it WILL come with practice. Remember, getting decluttered and organised is not about minimalism (unless you want it to be!). It’s about living with only the things that you love and that support you in the life you want to live. It’s about being able to find your keys. It’s about being able to walk across your bedroom in the dark! It’s about calmness and reducing your stress. It’s about doing what you enjoy rather than moving piles of detritus. It’s about being able to breathe. As one of my clients said when we finished with her home, “I’m going to have to find a new hobby now!”.

THE CONVERSATION: I AM ME

Moray Musicians Promote Men’s Mental Health – CHARITY GIG Don’t miss the opportunity to see some of the best contemporary musical talent in Moray and beyond as The Fragz, MacTa, Bad Actress, Ant Thomaz and Cask get together to raise money and awareness for Men’s Mental Health. This eclectic, exciting and entertaining line up are giving their time and talent to play a follow up to the gig last January, which raised £2200 for MikeysLine charity.

It began an innocent tune, A message shared within friends, The understanding that as men, we CAN talk. We NEED to talk.

“Men are disproportionately affected by suicide, accounting for around 75% of all completed suicides each year. It is so important for men to feel comfortable opening up about how they are feeling and seeking help. Stigma is often a huge barrier to accessing support for men, so this campaign has been hugely welcome.

Together we’ve recorded a song to help bring awareness to the issue of mental health among men.

Moray and the Highlands have among the worst suicide rates in the UK, and Mikeysline’s work to support anyone in these regions struggling with feelings of depression, isolation, self-harm, addiction or any other mental health issue is needed more than ever in the cost-of-living crisis.”

We lose far too many of us and we want to help share the message that’s its ok to not be ok.

Katie Melville, Fundraising Manager of Mikeysline

If it help’s just one person, the track will have done its job.
