The fabulous Morag Martin, Ceamara Photography provided all the images for the wedding feature. The beautiful wedding gowns modelled by the beautiful Lindsay Mather were provided by Luxe Bridal in Elgin and the photo shoot took place at Elgin Football Club which was beautifully decorated. Luxe Bridal in Elgin stocks a selection of beautiful gowns from designers such as Justin Alexander, Ellis Bridal London and Victoria Kay. Contact Gillian on 01343 818357 to view her wonderful collection. The photo shoot of all the amazing mother of the bride or groom and guest outfits, took place at the premises of The Wedding Wardrobe in Aberchirder (Foggie). The gorgeous models were the Wedding Wardrobe proprietor Kerry and her very able assistant, Alison. Kerry has decided to stop the bridal gowns and focus the business on the guest outfits. If you are looking for your bridal gown and are size 8. 10, 12 or 14 you may be able to pick up a bargain while Kerry sells off stock.

WHISKY FESTIVAL

Spirit of Speyside- George, Sarah and Tony

SPIRIT OF SPEYSIDE WHISKY FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

O

ne of the world’s largest whisky festivals will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year when over 85 venues open their doors on 1st of May. Celebrity chef and whisky fan Tony Singh helped launch the prestigious festival by heading to The Glenlivet in Speyside and naturally celebrated with a dram. He said, “This is one of the best whisky festivals globally and I’m looking forward to coming back with my family in May to go to some of the events. Having recently invested in a cask, I must confess – I'm head over heels for a good malt or blend, especially when it's a delightful addition to my culinary creations. So, what better day than Burns birthday to toast the festival launch.”

22

Sharing a dram on the Spey

Thanks to the glorious waters in Speyside, they boast an unusually high concentration of distilleries. As the largest whisky producing

region in Scotland, many of the 51 distilleries open their doors, including ones normally closed to the public. Incredibly, 5 distilleries will celebrate their 200th anniversary this year. The Macallan, The Glenlivet, Miltonduff, Cardhu and Balmenach will all reach the special milestone. From history makers to newcomers, the distilling story continues as the Festival welcomes brand new distillery Dunphail, who will be opening its doors to Festival goers for the first time this year. With 19 villages and towns taking part, thousands of tourists will arrive and blend in with the locals when they descend on Speyside for 6 days from 1st of May. The festival provides a huge boost to the local economy attracting thousands of visitors each year, with almost 40% of them coming from overseas, 20% from the local area and the rest from all corners of the UK. Visitors can enjoy countless tastings, tours, ceilidhs, quizzes and, of course, the spectacular Speyside scenery. The accommodation options are extensive and range from luxury hotels to glamping pods. Many of the hotels, restaurants, halls and tourist attractions take part by hosting events to whet the palette. George McNeil, Chair of The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, said; “It’s incredible to think this is the 25th year of the festival and it continues to grow in size and stature. The distilleries in Speyside that take part make it a truly unique festival. It’s a chance for visitors to immerse themselves in the whisky world with worldclass experiences, behind the scenes tours, visit distilleries that don’t normally open their doors to the public and enjoy a few days in this

beautiful part of the world. I think this year will be our biggest and best yet so would encourage people to book early to avoid disappointment.” First launched in 1999, the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival’s annual celebration of Scotland’s national drink has developed into one of the largest events of its kind anywhere in the world. This year it will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a programme of over 500 whisky-inspired events over 6 days. The Festival is a true mecca for the curious beginner and the whisky connoisseur alike. Festival events take place throughout Speyside, the biggest whisky producing region in Scotland. Over the years, the Festival has developed close links with many Speyside businesses and communities who help to fund the festival. It is a true team effort to deliver an ever-improving range of events and services to make the six days of the Festival a truly unforgettable experience.

This year’s events include: •

The Spirit of Speyside Festival Ceilidh at The Macallan

The Ultimate Whisky Flight which includes a helicopter tour with Glenfarclas

The Glenlivet: Forever Forward

Whisky Detectives with Glenlivet Hill Trek

Mother’s Day Sunday 10th March 2024 is that special day dedicated here as Mother’s Day this year. It is not celebrated on the same date across the world. In the USA and many other countries, including Canada, New Zealand, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Peru and the Philippines it is the second Sunday in May, but here it is linked to Easter, which has a different date each year. France celebrates on the last Sunday in May. Every family is different and it is for you to decide how to spend that day. You may have lost your Mum and it will be a time for you to remember her. Whatever your situation, be kind to yourself and to each other.

24

If you are undecided what to do this year, then all I ask is please do what you can to support local businesses. If you want to buy something nice or take her out for a special meal. There are plenty of local gift shops and restaurants giving you ample choice. See a selection advertised here in Lifestyle. I do know that whichever business you choose to use to make your purchase, they will appreciate your support.

DE-CLUTTERING

ROSIE BARRON IS THE TIDY COO Rosie Barron is The Tidy Coo, an award winning Declutter Coach and Professional Organiser and author of Easy Life – from chaos to calm with minimal effort. She is Scotland’s only KonMari Master and the Images: Laura Walter Photography northern most member of APDO (The Association of Professional Declutterers those that are holding you back. How do you get started on this? I get a lot of queries from and Organisers). She lives in people asking about how they can possibly start when they don’t know what to do with Aberdeenshire with her husband, Great Aunt Betty’s tea set they inherited and my four children and a large menagerie answer to that is not to worry about that yet, but of animals who all bring joy. You can to start on the simpler decisions. We don’t start find many of her free resources to learning maths with parametric equations, but with learning to count and it is exactly the same help you declutter and organise on with decluttering. Start with your sock drawer, or Facebook, Instagram and her website, the out-of-date food, or the toiletries that have thetidycoo.com. been open for 5 years and not used.

Spring Clearing! Yes, that’s right, Spring Clearing rather than Spring Cleaning. As the days start to lengthen, and the light comes in through the windows and hits the dust and cobwebs (or is that just my house?), our thoughts turn to airing the house out after the winter. However, this year, rather than just cleaning and moving the dust about, how about making your life easier by decluttering?

30

Decluttering is not about getting rid of everything you own and living in a minimalist box (unless that’s what you want of course!). Instead it is about choosing to keep those items that you love and that support you and releasing

Many declutters focus on throwing away and what you DON’T want in your home, but at The Tidy Coo, we flip this on its head and focus on what you want to keep. The things to keep are those that make your heart sing or that are fundamentally useful for your life – I’m not sure the electricity bill makes my heart sing, but having electricity in my home is certainly helpful. By focusing on those possessions that we want to keep, rather than those that we want to let go, the whole thing is flipped on its head. I often ask my clients to describe how they want their home to look, and what they can see, in their mind’s eye, when their home is finished. This means that we can find out what they actively want to have in their home and let go of the stuff that they don’t.

One big mistake that people make when they are decluttering is to go out and buy organising products. How tempting it is to think that if we can only get the organisation right, then the home will remain manageable! If you are somebody who watches organising shows, then you may have seen The Home Edit. In one of the episodes a former client says, “I just had you six months ago and I need you back!” – that is a dead giveaway that they have focused on organising and not decluttering. As I say to my clients, my whole job is to do myself out of a job. Whilst I love the people I work with, I don’t want to see them every week for the rest of their lives, I want to get in, get them decluttered and organised, and then move on to the next. Usually by the time I have finished working with a client, we have heaps of organising products left over, products they already owned. Whilst organising products have their part to play in keeping your space supportive, THE biggest part of the process is decluttering. Don’t worry about getting the organisation perfect whilst you are decluttering, use what you have to hand. If at the end of your decluttering journey, you wish to buy matching organising solutions and that makes you happy, then go ahead and do it, but don’t do it during the process and certainly don’t do it beforehand. I recommend decluttering in categories to see what you have (one client had 13 pairs of nail clippers but didn’t know that until we brought them all together!). Sometimes when stuff is all mixed up together, it can be hard to declutter in categories. Last month I helped someone after a recent house move. Understandably, like many people do, she had ended up putting things into drawers without much rhyme or reason

just to get it put away. We started by pulling everything out of the drawers, decluttering the obvious and then categorising what was left. By the time we had finished that first go through, it was much more obvious when she had duplicates and we were able to do an easier second pass through and let go of much more. Store like with like. Another mistake I frequently see is that people just declutter one space rather than going through their whole home. If you truly want to change your life, you need to do this fully. No saying, “I don’t need to do my sock drawer, it’s fine” or, “The cupboard under the stairs doesn’t bother me, I am not doing it”. You need to handle every single item in your home. Yes, it will take time and it will take energy, but unless you do everything, you will find that you just churn items around your home. Commit to doing this, block some time off in your diary, think about what your ideal home would look like, work out what you’re going to do with your discards and get going! I’m often asked if my own home is always tidy and the answer is, “Of course not!” – I have four teenagers, dogs and cats in my home, not to mention ponies and poultry in the garden and rabbits and rats in my studio. The point of being decluttered and organised is not to live in a show home and spend all my time keeping it as such, but to reduce stress levels and to spend my time doing the activities that I enjoy. RESTAURANT REVIEW

T

he galloping gourmets have been at it again. Nothing puts them off in their search for good food – not January blues, nor foggy evenings, driving rain, snow (although they draw the line at excessive snow). They are assiduous in their search for the best that Moray (and surrounding areas) has to offer. This time they have their eyes set on Huntly – and The Bank.

is chatter a-plenty and no pingpinging of phones. The

In lots of ways The Bank is not what one would expect. It is located in the old Clydesdale Bank building, on the Square in Huntly and, to the new owners’ credit, they have retained that sense of grandeur and magnificence that old bank buildings possess in spades. High ceilings, large windows, square sturdy columns from floor to ceiling supporting the roof but, at the same time, adding structural interest and subtly dividing the room. It has been very cleverly thought out.

waiting staff are indeed dressed in black and they have mastered the art of appearing when you need them and blending into the background when you don’t. Quite frankly, this is an achievement in itself, so hats off to the management, led by Ellis Allan general manager, who has gathered a very fine team of enthusiastic people.

The entrance smacks of art deco and it is not hard to imagine that you would find diners in their best attire with waiting staff demurely dressed in long black skirts, harking back to a gentler age when nothing was rushed and everything was savoured to the maximum. Yes, we know it is 2024 and all are glued to smart phones, so you expect a smattering of diners who are texting instead of talking; but no – there

The décor? Perfection indeed. Very, very subtle and muted shades, tables dressed to the nines with incredible attention to detail and little touches that just round everything off – for example, the table lamps. Goodbye candles and/or tea lights and hello bronze lamps with varying degrees of brightness. No mess. Just a gentle glow that illuminates the table more than adequately.

32

Any management that has gone to such lengths to create the perfect ambience must surely have applied the same criteria to the food. This is the crunch and we are prepared to be super-picky. The menus are presented and this is the moment of truth. Oh my goodness – there are the usual choices that one would expect but they all come with a twist – and this is where the head chef, Pete, is to be warmly congratulated. He has taken familiar bones but has dressed them up in new clothes, almost to the point of being unrecognisable. Quite astonishing – and most welcome – and it is this new slant on old favourites that elevates The Bank above many other restaurants. Is this really Huntly? It is worthy of Edinburgh or Glasgow, really it is. Choosing dishes from the menu is always a bit of a hard task. We three try to have something we haven’t had before, and all dishes are different (it’s fun trying what your friends have ordered!) but this time we really are agonising over what to choose as it all sounds so scrumptious. Eventually, after much deliberation, it is Cullen skink, Blackbull whisky beetroot cured salmon and Stornoway black pudding Benedict. Prior to the arrival of the starters we are presented with a tray of 6 mini homemade bread rolls – three with onion and three with herbs. Totally delicious and not at all filling, thankfully, as the starters are very substantial and defy description. Works of art, beautifully presented and a delight to eat. This is quite an introduction and sets the theme for the main courses: steak burger with both cheese and bacon, venison ragu and the steak and ale shortcrust pie. A proper pie, not your oval dish filled with meat and topped with a wonky puff pastry hat. We could have written poetry about the food. It was outstandingly good and worthy of rounds of applause. The flavours were delicate and everything was cooked to perfection – the kitchen must be run with military precision in order to present the diner with such incredible fare. I must confess to not being able to do complete justice

drinks or snacks or to enjoy a late night whisky from the Duncan Taylor collection of fine single malts. It can also be used to hold dances and sports evenings, to celebrate birthdays and other joyous events or to have office Christmas parties. It is a room for all seasons.

and had to leave a little bit of my pie – it was so filling, proper winter’s evening food, but I did feel bad about not sending an empty plate back to the kitchen. I could not possibly have managed a dessert, so plumped for cappuccino coffee with cinnamon (not chocolate) topping. Superb. The other two had a white chocolate and Blackbull whisky mousse and a Motten chocolate dome. Here’s where Pete presided over the table, as the dome had to be caressed with a hot sauce, melting the ice cold chocolate to reveal the interior. Quite a showstopper. I did manage to take a tiny spoonful of the desserts and can confirm that the tastes were sublime. How does Pete do it? Not content with revitalising the Clydesdale Bank building, the owners then took on the empty Bank of Scotland building next door and to give it a new lease of life. Welcome to the Club Room. It is accessed from the main dining area by a few steps down and suddenly you are in another world. The same care and attention to detail that have elevated the old Clydesdale Bank have been used to take the Bank of Scotland to new heights. It is primarily a quiet room, designed for meeting people over

One very unusual feature of the room is the wall of whisky casks. One can purchase single malts using a smart card, which you tap on the cask of choice and, after turning the small spigot, a measure of your chosen malt is dispensed. No need to request a refill from the waiting staff! All very different and all designed to make the experience just that little bit more out of the ordinary. It’s an amazing place, beautifully thought out, run with quiet precision. It caters for all and there is no need to feel that jeans and sweatshirt would not be welcome – everyone is made to feel at home and the staff go out of their way to make it memorable. We all loved it and cannot wait to go back. Yes, it really is Huntly. T: 01466 543103 The Bank Cafe & Restaurant, 2 The Square, Huntly www.thebankrestaurant.co.uk

atience is in short supply at this time of the year, as we await the lengthening days signalling spring’s renewal. The snowdrops are just showing their pretty faces and the first brave shoots are yet to emerge from the frosty earth. We may have to be patient with nature, but there are other ways to bring vibrancy into our lives and spring into the season. A new hair colour can transform how we look and feel. If you haven’t explored colour in the past, perhaps now’s the time to try? How about some sun kissed strands of blonde through your hair? ‘Balayage’, which in French means ‘to sweep’ or ‘to paint’ a freehand application of colour, usually taking the lightest shades to the end of the strands of hair to mimic how the sun naturally lightens the hair during summer. It’s low maintenance as there are no roots as such, but it’s a great way to bring a hint of summer to these dark, early spring days. Highlights lighten small sections of the hair to several shades paler than the base colour. They can be applied to every hair colour and every density. The subtlest version mimics the tiny blonde strands in the hair of small children, called ‘babylights’. Lowlights work on the same principle, but go darker or richer, adding dimension and texture to the hair.

Your colour success depends on finding an expert colourist to work with. Someone who will guide you according to your hair type, length and texture, who has a comprehensive knowledge of the products and techniques available, and who you feel comfortable with. TRACY GOES OUTSIDE

Linn Falls Circuit, Aberlour

Tracy undertakes lovely walks all over our beautiful country and we are delighted she has agreed to provide Lifestyle readers with the inside knowledge that she has gleaned from her many adventures. I hope you enjoy Tracy’s walks? Please do let us know and send us some photos. This short but beautiful circular route is based around Aberlour in the heart of Speyside. The walk takes you out of the town and into the woods. Following the woodland path, you will come to the stunning Linn Falls (Linn of Ruthrie waterfalls). On your return to the town, you will pass by the Aberlour Distillery before finding the hidden packhorse bridge. Distance: 2 miles Time: 1hr Level: Easy Terrain: Sections of pavements and road, along with a section of forest path and track. Some steps and rough ground. Access: Arrive by car or public transport. Stagecoach No 36 bus runs between Elgin and Aberlour at regular intervals throughout the day. Car parking available at Alice Littler Memorial Park AB38 9QP 38

Route: Starting from the carpark. To the right of the play park, you will see the bridge with the path over it. Walk over the bridge and past the back of the old train station, heading towards the church. It is worth taking a look round the front of the station. There has not been a train here since the line east to Dufftown closed in 1971 but the station still looks amazing over fifty years on.

Back at the Church, go towards the square, cross over the main road and pass the Co-op on your left-hand side and head up Queen’s Road. Once past the Fleming Hospital on your right, you will see a sign for Glenallachie and Fairy Knowe. Follow the narrow path up on to the road turning right. Just past the street of houses, take the narrow road to the back of sheds. It is signposted to the falls. At the end of the tarred, narrow road, you will come to a gate, pass through the gate and on to a woodland path. Stay on the main path, ignoring any paths that branch off. The main path will curve to the right, and you will descend steps with a handrail and soon see the beautiful double-cascading waterfall. The area beside the waterfall is a popular wild dooking spot in the summer months and there is a great wee area where you can relax and have a picnic. There was snow covering when we visited so dooking and picnics was not an option.

Once you have explored the falls, follow the Burn of Aberlour round to the right and after a short walk you will pass Aberlour Distillery on your left which was founded in 1879 by James Fleming. Fleming left a lasting legacy in Aberlour building the Fleming Hall and then the Fleming Hospital. When you reach the main road, you can take a closer look at the distillery if you take the footbridge on your left. Here you will cross over the main road, be careful of traffic as this road can be busy. Once safely across, look over the bridge and nestled in the undergrowth there is a small, old packhorse bridge that was built around 1624. Take the path to the righthand side of the packhorse bridge which will lead you back to the car park. Just before you finish your walk take a look down at the Victoria Bridge which is a suspension footbridge that was built in 1902 to replace a ferry that was previously in service. The bridge was also funded by James Fleming and initially cost a penny toll to cross hence it is often known as the Penny Bridge. From here you go back to the carpark and the end of your walk.

ACUPUNCTURE

Ingrid Hauge at Natures Qi Health

A

fter many years away abroad, Ingrid has returned to Scotland and has opened her clinic in a peaceful area of the Findhorn Eco village. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge of classical Chinese medicine. In her youth she ran a bar where she was surrounded by much drug and alcohol abuse. This experience was the catalyst towards learning from nature, a natural way of health and living. Initially she was working from a western perspective with sports injuries and fitness training and was introduced to acupuncture via a short acupressure course. The Eastern philosophy of Qi and health care makes manifest sense inasmuch as it treats the whole person, the balance between our body, our environment and our spirituality. An ancient medicine for our modern world. Meridians Graduating in 2006 after four years’ full time education in Chinese medicine, Ingrid now works with a combination of approaches, bringing east and west together in harmony. As she explains:

Classical Chinese medicine is, quite simply, an Eastern approach to whole health and has been Acupuncture

54

used successfully for many thousands of years in the treatment of a wide range of conditions. It is as relevant now as then; perhaps even more so today as our lifestyles have moved further away from nature. It’s really about regaining balance and is complementary to much that is easy to implement for ourselves. Usually there is an initial reason for the first consultation and, once investigated, often other issues may arise that are inter-related. We need to look at the causes rather than the symptoms. If there is pain or discomfort there is a reason why. Chinese medicine addresses every level physical, mental and emotional. Everything is so inter-related and inseparable and pain can lead to low mood and stress can affect the physical, in disturbed sleep, digestion and headaches. It is essential to look at how everything moves, or doesn’t. Qi flow via the meridians: blood, lymph, fluids, musculo skeletal, exercise. The energetics

of food, our breathing – they are all inter-related and it is essential to study how they interact. Acupuncture works via stimulating points along the meridians. Neural pathways are also studied via ‘jia ji’ points. As well as looking at food as our medicine, Chinese herbal formulas and essential oils may be introduced. We can also use turning forks as an alternative to needles or in combination with. This is especially useful for children or animals. Other techniques that we may use are cupping, gua sha, and tui na. These techniques are often used for some initial relief and on a more musculo skeletal outer level and can be very beneficial alongside acupuncture. These techniques can be beneficial in treating circulation, cardiovascular issues, injuries, pre and post surgeries, neurological issues, immunity and respiratory issues. The list is very comprehensive and also includes digestive and gastro intestinal issues. Stress levels and

Chinese acupuncture

psychological issues can benefit too, as can fertility and hormonal, post natal, menopausal and sleep disturbances (both chronic and acute). Once rebalance is established, the ideal is to focus on preventative health care and staying well. If we ignore the messages the body is giving us, they will only get louder. Pain medications may mask the problem, but that is all they do – mask – and we really we need to listen more. Genetics certainly play a part but much is up to us and we can definitely choose better health There is no charge for an initial consultation and Ingrid welcomes questions. She will devise a treatment plan for each individual, as we are all unique. This approach very much works alongside other practices, for example osteopathy, chiropractic, talking therapy and physical therapy. Reassessment and being open to change is key and her philosophy is applicable to all : as our needs are in a constant state of flux, we can benefit from being able to slow down enough to listen – this is her not-so-secret method of self care. Maintain a balance and enjoy how we spend our time. For Ingrid it is off road running, painting, reading, nourishing food, laughing with good friends – basically the simple things that enrich our daily lives.

HYPNOBIRTHING

Preparing for birth By Sophia Hanson

When I support second-time mums to prepare for birth they frequently share one regret about their first baby’s birth. What do you think it might be? It’s not that the nursery wasn’t painted in time. It’s not that they hadn’t made a definite decision on their baby’s name. It’s not that the newborn clothes they bought were already too big or small. Their number one regret is that they didn’t do any courses or reading to prepare themselves for birth. These smart, intelligent women put all their faith in the midwives and consultants who would be on shift that day – and consciously or unconsciously decided in advance to abdicate responsibility. They didn’t learn about their rights (for example, you can say no to a vaginal examination if you don’t want one). They didn’t understand their own power to positively influence their baby’s birth. They didn’t realise the importance of having a birth partner to advocate for them. If these women had had a C-section or were induced with their first baby, I’d ask them why that decision had been made (not judging it, but looking for the evidence to support it). In most instances, the women didn’t know of any reason

other than ‘that’s what they felt they were told to do.” They didn’t remember if they were asked. They just felt that it was what they were expected to do. The first-time mum regret stemmed from the realisation that they had had enormous power to be able to positively influence birth but through lack of awareness left it all to chance (or the steer of their midwives). How you move, breathe, think all impact birth. In the vast majority of low-risk pregnancies an undisturbed birth (no pressure to keep labour going at a pace, no pressure for intervention or assistance) leads to a calm and more comfortable labour. Even if you require or choose intervention, being able to discuss the options supports a woman in labour to feel more prepared (and you can’t talk confidently about something you know next to nothing about). Get informed. Be supported. They say it takes a village to raise a child, find your village during pregnancy. I offer online courses in hypnobirthing and birth preparation. Don’t leave your birth to chance when you have so much power to influence it.

TAKE 2

O

n January 21st 2023 I attended an absolutely amazing gig in Elgin Town Hall.

Mental health, mens’ in particular, is a topic that needs to be brought into the open and we need to engage everyone in discussions. Men, historically, have been reticent to discuss such matters, preferring to adopt a stiff upper lip approach. To highlight the issue, Alan Jamieson. Local businessman and musician of punk band The Fragz, known to all as AJ, had brought together a number of his local musician friends to record a song called “The Conversation: I Am Me”. This was released on the 9th December 2022 on all digital platforms. The song features solo artists and members of local bands The Fragz, Blaire Mackenzie, Danny Mortimer and MacTa. Collectively they then planned a multi band gig featuring all the musicians to take place in January 2023 in Elgin Town Hall for the Community, with all proceeds from the song and gig being given to a mental health charity, Mikeysline. Roll on 12 months and the guys did it all again on January the 27th 2024, once again in Elgin Town Hall for the Community. This time unfortunately I was unable to be there. By all accounts I missed a fantastic night of musical entertainment.

60

This year The Conversation: I Am Me also brought together Ant Thomaz, Cask, Bad Actress, The Fragz, MacTa, Gary Moyes, Blaire Mackenzie and Danny Mortimer. Ant Thomaz came all the way up from Glasgow for this performance and Cask who just started out last year, paid tribute to a good friend Jody who unfortunately took his own life last year. AJ and Mark Aldridge, the bass guitarist in MacTa pulled the event together and were absolutely delighted with the turnout to support them and the charity. AJ put the idea together last year after the song was such a success and they decided to organise what was supposed to be a ‘one off gig’ , but then AJ went to Mark and said I want to do it again. They are so glad they did, what a great night and they raised a phenomenal £2700. £100 is going to Out of Darkness Theatre Company as they provided the wonderful emoji artwork.

The rest of the money goes to Mikeysline to support their activities in Moray. Mikeysline was founded in late 2015 after a tragic number of suicides in the Highland area. Its objective is to offer support 365 evenings a year for anyone, irrespective of their level of need.Their text based support is available on 07786 207755 includes SMS, WhatsApp, Web Chat, Twitter and Facebook Messenger. They also offer 1:1 appointments at their mental health crisis support centres and have also started an additional young person’s support service. The whole purpose of this event and what these guys have done is to raise awareness of mental health and as AJ said “We need to normalise it; it is not a stigma. Local voices and local faces make it easier for everyday people. Everybody comes here with their heart on their sleeve and just goes for it”.
