Pioneers give Frankston the blues Pioneers take their strong form on the road and cement ladder position in NBL1 The Castec Rural Supplies Mount Gambier Pioneers Men started their road double with an impressive victory over major title contender Frankston Blues, 109-91. The Pioneers led by five at the first break, 14 at the half and 24 by the final change before losing the final quarter on their way to the 18 point win. Homegrown hero Michael Harris continued to put his stamp on the competition with a 34 point game that saw him score six from even from the field and seven from 13 from three point territory as he continues to loom as the recruit of the year across the competition. And while Frankston had a high scoring hero of their own in Lachlan Barker, who put up 33 points, his support crew was not nearly as strong, tipping the scales well and truly in favour of the visitors. Tom Kubank had 22 points and seven rebounds, Nick Marshall chipped in with 19 points, six rebounds, four steals and five assists and skipper Tom Daly had a 12 point game with seven rebounds and five assists. Clevon Brown also had a 12 point game with five rebounds and three impressive blocks, while Kane de Wit was in complete control distributing the ball at the offensive end with a game high eight assists and he also picked up two steals. The Pioneers again did most of their scoring damage with their perimeter game. The OneFortyOne Pioneers Women continued their winning ways with a 16 point win over the Blues. Cassandra Brown ripped the game to shreds with a 31 point, 11 rebound game as the Pioneers won every quarter in what was a hard fought contest. Brown was well supported by Sherrie Calleia, Hannah Young and Haliegh Reinoehl. Calleia put up 14 points, pulled in five rebounds and had seven assist, Young dominated the defensive boards with 10 rebounds and put up 12 points of her own, while Reinoehl had 11 points and eight rebounds. Pioneers women’s coach Matt Sutton saw himself pitted against former Australian basketballer Belinda Snell, in her second year at the helm of the competition powerhouse. The Pioneers teams took on Nunawading on Sunday afternoon.
