COVER • COMMUNITY SOLAR PROGRAM ON OFFER Last year more than 100 households across the region made the switch to solar via the inaugural Limestone Coast Community Solar Program. The program, which will make its return this month, aims to make going solar easier and more affordable by providing bulk buy discounts on solar and battery systems. The second Limestone Coast Community Solar Program has just been announced. It will kick off in Millicent on May 14, before making its way over to Mount Gambier on May 15. The program is a rare opportunity access free advice that will help

you understand solar and battery technology, as well as enabling you to access exclusive bulk buy discounts and claim up to $6000 in SA Government battery subsidies. Local NFP Community Action For Sustainability has partnered with Solar Marketplace, ShineHub, to deliver this new offering of the program. The partnership has negotiated bulk buy deals on top quality solar products, as well as payment options to suit everybody and certified installation with trusted local solar companies. But, if you’re waiting for a catch, here it is - these offers will only be valid for one month.

The best way to find out more is by attending one of the program’s upcoming free information events. The events will explain how you can cut your electricity bills by up to 90% with new solar and battery technology starting at just $9,999 or $131/month through the program. The program will also offer new ‘payas-you-go’ options that aren’t available anywhere else across Australia. In last year’s program, the most popular option was the ‘Lease to Own’ product which is exclusive to South Australia and allows you to save up to 42% on electricity costs instantly without paying a cent upfront. This plan was launched on Channel 7 News and was likened to a mobile phone plan. That is, your technology and usage is packaged up into an easy and affordable monthly payment. Mount Gambier resident Simon Western admits when she first saw the deal on facebook last year, when

ShineHub visited the region, it did have that ‘too good to be true’ feel. “I was really interested but I did think, is it really going to deliver that big a saving,” Simone said. “But it really has. Our power bills for three months were more than $1000 and now we are down to less than $100.” The family of five installed a 4.3kW system plus 5.3kWh battery and the results have been astonishing. “The payment plan was also exactly what we needed as well,” Simone said. “It was probably the only way we could afford it but it was been worth it. We get a lot of sun and we had been looking into solar so this gave us the chance to use a sustainable power source as well as making our power bills so much more affordable. It is good for the environment and our finances.” It is completely free to register, but places in the program are strictly limited. If you are interested in finding out more, you can register for your free local event in Millicent (May 14, 6pm) or Mount Gambier (May 15, 2pm or 6pm) by visiting www.shinehub.com.au/ limestone SHINEHUB • LIMESTONE COAST INFORMATION SESSIONS MILLICENT Tuesday, May 14 at 6pm Millicent Civic & Arts Centre MOUNT GAMBIER Wednesday, May 15 at 2pm & 6pm City Hall (entry via Cave Gardens)

SHARP SHOOTER SET TO HIT THE DANCE FLOOR It might be called Swinging with the Stars, but for Liz Rymill it loomed more as mission impossible. “I am not the most delicate or graceful person,” Liz said. “For me I was wondering if the brain could take it all in as it seemed like a lot to get your head. around. At the start it felt like a lot of things weren’t getting from the brain through to the feet.” But as one of the eight stars set to trip the light fantastic for the 2019 Swinging With the Stars, Liz now feels more comfortable, crediting dance partner Steve Speck, who was the 2016 Mirror Ball Champion, with making her feel comfortable in her new shoes – dancing shoes. Liz Rymill is more RM Williams than Jimmy Choo but when she was asked to be involved in what is the major fundraiser of the year for the Stand Like Stone Foundation, she never considered turning the opportunity down. “I was very humbled to have been asked,” Liz said. “I certainly don’t think I have the skills but everything I do for the community I do wholeheartedly and to be asked to be involved in an event that has done so much for the community and had such a big impact, I had to say yes. I love the way it gives back to the whole of the region.” Liz grew up in Mount Pleasant near the Barossa Valley and was part of a family that always rolled up its sleeves to get involved. “I grew up in a culture of volunteering and having that sense of being part of a community,” Liz said.

“There is so much good will in country communities and I like that you can get a great group of people together and really achieve something.” Liz worked in media in the world of politics, splitting her time between Adelaide and Canberra and during this time met her husband, Tom Rymill. “We both wanted to return to the country to work, to have our careers but also get into farming and raise a family,” she said. So now, when Liz is not on the farm, she is working at the ABC as a news journalist, as well as doing some rural media consulting work. And she’s not just a sharp shooter with words, Liz is also an accomplished sporting clay shooter – a past time that dates back to her childhood with her father. “I was really close to my dad and used to spend a lot of time with him so I liked doing the things he was good at,” she said. “My brothers were a lot older than me and had moved out when I was young so I just wanted to emulate my dad.” That meant initially tennis and then she started to hone her skills as a shooter and heading to the local club was one of the first things she did when she moved to the region. In fact before she even hits The Barn dance floor on June 22. Liz is headed to Wagga Wagga for the national championships where she will captain the State women’s team. Skeet is her area of expertise and she has not ruled out one day shooting for Australia – there are a few opportunities outside the Olympics for talented shooters to wear

the green and gold. Now, though, any free time she has will be spent practising her dance steps. Just over a month into rehearsals, the couples are three dances in with the tango currently on the agenda, the waltz and jive in the rear view mirror, and hip hop, so often labelled the toughest, on the horizon. “I have heard that hip hop is hard but we have some fun things planned for that,” Liz said. “I am certainly not going to win on technical ability so we are going for entertainment value. I have just loved it so far and I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I have.” Liz has been to previous events and thought the standard was especially high last year. “We have big shoes to fill,” she said. Given her passion for the community, the fundraising aspect of

lifestyle1.net | 04

the competition is as critical to her as the dance steps and this Sunday she has a Come N Try shooting event, while on June 1 she is joining forces with fellow star Elle Hood for a traditional country dance at the Coonawarra Hall. “It is a family dance – a family friendly afternoon and evening,” Liz said. “My dad and grandfather used to go to country dances and we want to bring that back.” Tickets are available through Sticky Tickets. Liz also has an event with a difference planned at the Mount Gambier Saleyards, involving stock agents and tutus with more details to follow. Given her most recent performance experience was playing an ant in the Year 7 play, she is cautiously optimistic about how June 22 will go but she is determined to have fun.

Where do you never tire of visiting in this region? Our family farm. Three first choice dinner party guests Bruce Tuffnell and my father and father-in-law - they all left us too early. What people would be surprised to find out about you? Nothing really - I am a pretty open book. Your greatest weakness? Talk too much. Your greatest strength I can always find the positive in things. What would you choose for your last meal Our special family spaghetti bolognese. What item in your wardrobe would you never part with I still have the first ever outfit my dad bought me when I started work at Josephines. That was back in 1990 and I don’t wear it but I do still have it in my wardrobe. If you were a car what would you be? A Porsche. Who/what most inspires you? People who are passionate about what they do. Who/what most frustrates/annoys you? People that don’t do what they say they’ll do. What book/CD would you want with you if you were on a deserted island? I’m a bit of a John Farnham fan so probably Whispering Jack. Which movie/television role would you love to play? Anything opposite Hugh Jackman. What’s the best advice you ever heard? It is something Bruce (late husband) said to me - There’s no end to the journey, you just turn the page and keep moving forward. Who would you like to swap places with for a day? Deborra Lee-Furness (Hugh Jackman’s wife)

NEW STAR ENTERS THE DANCE RACE Jeremy May, an apprentice builder from Kingston, will step into the 2019 Swinging with the Stars line up after a football Injury has wreaked havoc with Bryce Smith’s campaign. May attended his first rehearsal late last month and admitted “he has a lot of catching up to do”. He will be partnered with Jacinta Cooper, who is confident that they will pull it off in time. May will be raising funds for the Kingston Community School Scholarship sub fund held with Stand Like Stone Foundation and is hoping that the community will get behind him in his fundraising efforts. May is Kingston’s first competitor in the event and is confident of drawing a large crowd of supporters at The Barn on June 22. Smith is recovering from surgery after he tore his ACL whilst playing football for Kingston. He is hopeful of a full recovery and is keen to put his name forward for the event in 2020 and is using next year’s dancing as his motivation during rehabilitation. Tickets re now available from Chapman’s Newsagency, Mount Gambier, Ph 8725 3300. Tickets are $110 each (or $105 each when purchased in groups of 10+ at the same time). 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS KICK OFF IN STYLE

McDonald Park School is getting ready to celebrate an impressive milestone of 50 years on Friday, May 31. The milestone event will be held at McDonald Park School, which first opened its doors in 1969, and is free to attend. The school is inviting everyone, both new and old, to reminisce and reflect on the school’s development from past to present day. Principal Kirsty Trahar said that the celebration was a fantastic opportunity for past students and past staff to come and have a look at what has changed at the school over the years, including the establishments of many new facilities such as the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden Program, the new gym and resource centre. She thinks that people will find it interesting to come back and have a look through the school and see what has changed over time. Ms Trahar said that previous staff and students, those who are interested in enrolling in McDonald Park School in the future, or anyone who is interested in seeing the changes is more than welcome to attend and hopes the event will be a bit of a reunion. “It is a good community event and is an event that brings the community together,” she said. “It’s a good opportunity to show everyone the programs that are in place now. It’s a great place to be.” From 2pm onwards, the student leaders will be providing school tours for people who want to have a guided look around. At 5pm there will be cake cutting and speeches, and the gym will be open with displays and assorted memorabilia for people to check out. For those that wish to continue the celebrations, there will be informal dinner and drinks held at the South Aussie Hotel, at 6pm which will be accompanied by a slideshow of photos. The school is currently accepting donations of memorabilia from the public to be used in the display such as past uniforms, Year 7 jackets and photographs. People are also encouraged to send through old

photographs of themselves from their McDonald Park school days along with a paragraph about where they are today for a ‘then and now’ comparison. The display will also include past camps and programs, sports days and aerial shots of the foundation stones, the school and its new facilities to show the growth of McDonald Park School throughout the years. The school will focus on its indigenous heritage as well, including the indigenous section of the garden. A significant event of the day will be the unearthing of the 25-year-old time capsule. The capsule, buried since May 27, 1994, will be opened and the contents displayed for all to see. The current McDonald Park students will then be burying a new time capsule of their own to be opened in another 25 years’ time which will be filled with present-day pieces representing leisure activities, fashion, music, school programs and letters about themselves. Ms. Trahar said that it is set to be a busy year of events, starting off with the bi-annual art show (pictured) that was held on Wednesday May 1, and focused on artists representing each of these decades. The McDonald Park school concert is to be held in September during the third Term. The script, written by staff, looks back on the concerts that have taken place at the school during the past 50 years. Bookings are required if you wish to attend the May 31 dinner and drinksat the South Aussie. Please book with the South Aussie directly on (08)8725 2404. By Ebony Raymond

COLLECTED STUPIDITY - DEAR ROBBIE 37‌ By ROBBIE TANSEL I got this email this week. Or maybe it was just the result of a conversation in a car. Or maybe it was written on a banner. But now I’m making out it was an email. Who would know these days? Is it really important? Do you really expect me to be factual? Anyway, about that fake email‌ “Dear Robbie, Who are you voting for at the upcoming Federal election. Gina from Glenburnie.â€? Great question, Gina. I’ll be honest though, I’m bored out of my brains by the election at this stage. They’re really going to need to liven things up in the next couple of weeks or this will be one of the most disappointing elections ever. I’ll be completely honest. I’m at a point where I’d prefer to stick my testicles in a butter churner than sit through the election night coverage. I just don’t care. Where’s the sizzle? Let me just say that you really shouldn’t take anything I say as an endorsement of any particular political party. T hings are pretty desperate if you’re basing your vote on what I come up with. I am about as ignorant as they come. Let me remind you that my opinion is

that the word politics comes from the Greek “poly meaning many and “tics which are blood sucking parasites. I have been keeping a bit of an eye on our local candidates though, and a couple of them have got my attention. I’ll be honest. I won’t be voting for Mat O’Brien. The self-evident reason for this is that his name is Mat but it’s spelled with only one T. Clearly the name Matt needs two Ts. Spelling it in any way is just silly and leads to mistrust of the person in question. For me the spelling of Mat’s name also raises the key question, is his name also spelt Mathew with one T? Can you just imagine other electorates or even people from other countries looking at us, the proud residents of the Barker electorate, and laughing at us electing someone called Mathew? I don’t know about you, but

if someone called Mat or Mathew is elected as our representative, I’ll be moving to a different electorate. Don’t tell my neighbour because otherwise he’ll be out campaigning for Mat. You may argue that it’s not Mat’s fault, after all his parents came up with the name. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree though, as we know. He’s probably got a child called Loren or Camren. Don’t get me started on Conservatives Senate candidate Rikki Lambert either. A little bit of advice, Rikki. You’re an adult. ou’re not seven anymore. Rick or Richard. If you insist on the shortened name, it will really need to be Ricky. Rikki is rikkiculous. As a Conservatives candidate, shouldn’t you have a more conservative spelling of your name? One of my biggest concerns

with Animal Justice candidate Karen Eckermann is the fact she’ll have to spell out her name to ensure people spell it right. “Now is that Kar*n with an I, a Y, or an E? It’s really going to inconvenience people. I’m assuming that Tony Pasin is an Anthony which has me wondering, what else is he hiding? If you can’t even tell us the full story of your name can we really trust you at all? On a much less important tack, his advertising leads me to believe that he thinks the key issues for the people of Barker are mobile phone coverage and dirt roads. I’d like to think there are bigger issues he could tackle; maybe youth unemployment, damage to the environment, basic services being centralised away from country areas or the fact that anyone can still buy a family sized pizza, whether they have a family or not. Having given some pretty hardhitting comments on the candidates’ names, let me just say I would vote for someone with a name like Cynamin or Candi. Crazy spelling of the name, yes, but at least they sound like strippers. That’s got to count for something. If you’d vote for me, email me at robbietansel@gmail.com and I’ll nominate for the next election.

TEMPT THE TASTEBUDS

Coffee & walnut muffins 2 cups (300g) self-raising flour 3/4 cup (165g) brown sugar 1/2 cup (55g) coarsely chopped walnuts 1/2 cup (95g) white chocolate chips 1 tablespoon instant coffee powder

HISTORY RECORDS BURIED FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS Last November, the community gathered to honour the 100th anniversary of the construction of the Rook Walk in Mount Gambier, the most enduring project to be created by a working bee in this region’s history. Given community groups and sporting clubs often struggle to hit double figures when it comes time for a working bee, the concept that around 2500 residents and visitors banded together on November 27, 1918, to build a four metre high stone wall that was more than 200 metres long is almost incomprehensible. Even the speed at which this mammoth task was organised is lightning compared with today’s standards. The call for donations of time and money went out in August of that year, and by September the November 27 date had been set in stone with more than 800 men, 300 women, 700 school children and 700 visitors dug in to level the banks, erect fences , construct three timber lookouts and then lug the local basalt, limestone and dolomite to get the job done.

Method Preheat oven to 180C. Line a 12-hole, 1/3-cup (80ml) muffin pan with paper cases. Combine the flour, sugar, walnut and chocolate chips in a large bowl. Place coffee and boiling water in a bowl. Stir until the coffee dissolves. Add the egg, buttermilk and oil and whisk to combine. Add to the flour mixture and stir until just combined (don’t overmix). Divide mixture evenly among the paper cases. Bake for 20-25 mins or until a skewer inserted in the centres comes out clean. Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly. To make the coffee icing, combine coffee and boiling water in a bowl. Add the icing sugar and stir to form a runny paste, adding more water if necessary. Drizzle over the muffins. Serve warm or at room temperature.

TEST

Adding to the story is this astonishing feat of construction happened just 16 days after the end of World War I. At the end of last month, records of that anniversary celebration, as well as mementos from 2018, were buried in a time capsule, ready for another generation to relive the history of this remarkable community feat. Mount Gambier History Group member Lynn Lowe said a USB filled with information had even been included. “Of course we have no idea if they will even know what that is or if they will be able to see what is on it,” she said. Just as the 2018 celebrations took place in a completely different era to the 1918 construction, so the 2118 celebrations see a very different Mount Gambier. “But we want everyone to know what a wonderful time 1918 was in our city when the Rook Walk was built and also how we chose to celebrate in 2018,” Lynn said. The group could not have been happier with how the anniversary celebrations went, from the chance attendance of the descendants of visionaries Arthur Rook, Eleanor Warren and Patrick Waller, with the family enjoying a reunion at the

same time the anniversary celebrations were planned, to the involvement of local school children, dressed in period costume, it was a fitting tribute to a community that was prepared to get things done. The Mount Gambier History Group is having a quieter 2019 after the past few months have seen the Rook Walk 100th Anniversary; the Fidlers Historical Display and the Lake Terrace Cemetery 150th Anniversary. But there will be little time to take a breath with the 2022 City of Mount Gambier’s 175th celebrations set to take some careful preparation by the group and other key stakeholders. The Mount Gambier History Group meets at the Reidy Park Centre on Tuesdays from 1.30-4.30pm and members are available at other times, by arrangement, to help people with all their historical enquiries. “We just had someone from Western Australia who was travelling through with her husband and she knew she had family connections and we were able to find her all the information on her grandfather – where he lived, where he worked, everything,” Lynn said. “We do get a lot of enquiries from people from away. Now that they can just drop us an email and ask for the information, it is really easy.” And the group is always keen to hear from locals who have photos, letters or any other memorabilia that they are happy for the history group to have as part of their collection. LOOKING TO CONTINUE BUILDING A VIBRANT COMMUNITY

With the Federal Election fast approaching on Saturday, May 19, Member for Barker Tony Pasin, who is running for his third term, discusses some of his major achievements, plans for the future and some of the challenges ahead. With a strong commitment to making the communities in Barker better places, Mr Pasin said that he aimed to improve and establish more services, infrastructure and facilities throughout these areas. Mr Pasin said that he wants to be the best advocate for the Barker community and to make sure that his community’s voice is heard, ensuring that nationally-delivered programs and opportunities are delivered to regional communities such as Barker, in the same way that they are delivered to the metropolitan divisions. “I’m always assessing my performance against key national performance indicators of national benchmarks because, ultimately, people in Barker want to know that they have a strong advocate that is delivering Barker more than its fair share,” Mr Pasin said. Mr Pasin said that some of his key achievements over the past four years have been the $15 million contribution towards the Mount Gambier Indoor Community and Recreation Hub, the granting of an MRI licence for the Riverland and securing the funding to support the fire damaged Thomas Foods International abattoir in Murray Bridge, with the hopes they will rebuild. “Each of them will make a significant difference to the people that live in those communities,” Mr. Pasin said. If he is returned to office, Mr Pasin wants to continue securing funding towards the infrastructure that people wish to see, such as improving the roads, building on the $200 million commitment for the Princes Highway upgrades and to continue delivering more mobile phone towers across Barker to increase accessibility to phone

coverage as part of the Mobile Black Spot Program. Mr Pasin believes that a strong economy is key to delivering the infrastructure and service outcomes that people want and said that the economy is strong and continuing to get stronger. “My number one goal has always been to ensure that the economy remains strong, that’s why we entered into free-trade agreements, which are disproportionately delivering for regional communities and primary producers in particular,” he said. “This will be front and centre of what we’re seeking to deliver.” Mr Pasin said it was challenging but extremely important to maintain a sufficient balance between the available resources while also ensuring that the priorities are kept consistent with what most people in Barker want to see delivered. “Politics is the art of balancing unlimited wants with limited resources,” Mr Pasin said. “Unfortunately, the government is limited by its own resources and its own capacity, so it’s getting that balance right. That has always been the challenge, so I need to make sure that Barker’s voice is heard in national Parliament and that Barker receives a fair share of its limited resources.” By Ebony Raymond Above - Scott Whicker (KCA), Federal Minister for Energy Angus Taylor, Doug Cunningham (KCA), Adam Carpenter (KCA) & Member for Barker Tony Pasin. IN THE GARDEN With Autumn firmly in our grip, the switch has been quite sudden and the array of Autumn foliage trees pulling off there amazing colours. Following on from our very successful Rose Open Weekend just before Easter, where many of you were able to get a sneak peek at the 2019 new release roses for this coming winter bare root season, the cut off for ordering has been extended to give you all a bit of time to gather your thoughts at all of the wonderful new varieties. We are well on the way to preparing for digging the first of the bare rooted roses for winter 2019. Don’t forget the newly released rose Winx, that was release officially last week after the mare won her final race. An amazing rose going from cream to white, amazing perfume and a high amount of proceeds go to the Retired Jockey’s Foundation, so a wonderful charity rose too. many of our other Charity roses can be seen on our website www.limestonecoastroses. com.au With Mother’s Day looming many of the new 2019 release roses will make the perfect gift idea as well as the ever popular Mother’s Love and The Children’s Rose, too, so reserve them now so you don’t miss out. The reason why it is so important that orders placed as soon as possible is because we have set amounts of roses growing in our paddocks and mail orders have been open since November last year, so by the time we actually have all the roses dug from the paddock, in many instances we are completely sold out of many, but not all varieties. This is especially so with the sought after new releases as orders spiked after the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Festival last month where many of the new releases were on display similar to our rose weekend where we had most of the new releases on display also (and on the facing page ). We had another spike with our new look print advert in last month’s Lifestyle1 magazine, due mainly to the new page layout, that many of you loved and found has a similar styling to our website and you will see (opposite) we have used again this month and may well for future editions. Essentially, as soon as we bring the roses in from the field, grade and rose orders are picked as priority there are often none left to go out for sale. Autumn is a good time to see the intensity of colour in the rose blooms too and is always a good indicator of the true colours of the rose flowers, so now is a good time to purchase and plant potted roses whilst the soil is warm and gain a year’s extra growth on your bushes. We have posted very accurate photos on our website www. limestonecoastroses.com.au, there is also a PDF version that you can download or print off or ring (08)8723 1325. Hurry if you would like to order the A Daughter’s Gift and Glamourpuss roses (see opposite page) for which we have received huge demand. Dear Father and lifestyle1.net | 24

EARLY LEARNING CENTRE TURNS FIVE

The Tenison Woods College Early Learning and Community Centre celebrated its 5th Birthday last week. Since opening in 2014, the ELCC, as it is aptly known, has grown through vision and quality education for children aged from three years to school age. Centre director Domenica Dunn said the centre team were so excited to share the celebrations with children and families. The centre’s Art Showcase was the centrepiece of the celebration and every day the centre celebrated past and present children and families, involving older students and the wider school community. In 2014, 14 children completed their kindergarten at the newly opened facility, and this year more than 50 young learners will graduate. There are two early learning

rooms as well as two kindergarten rooms within the centre and playgroup s held at the centre on Wednesdays, often with younger siblings joining in. The centre is fully licensed, offering long daycare from 7am–6pm. Children also have access to the grounds and extensive shared school facilities, not to mention the added expertise of school staff for specialist sessions in music, sport and Italian. DAIRY INDUSTRY IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Representatives from the District Council of Grant, Wattle Range Council and Dairy SA met recently to consider the findings from the Dairy Industry Review report released late last year and map out a way in which both councils could support the local sector. The report, which was initiated by the two councils, to undertake an independent review of the dairy industry across both districts, considered the potential future of the industry, opportunities for growth as well as possible constraints to the industry. District Council of Grant acting chief executive Jane Fetherstonhaugh said the two council regions had the majority share of dairies within the Limestone Coast, with approximately 300 million litres of raw milk production per annum being produced in the region.

“The report concluded that because of the natural resources and environment, the Limestone Coast will remain a high producing region providing a secure milk supply, with the degree to which production can be increased yet to be determined,” she said. Wattle Range Council CEO Ben Gower said the review showed the need for councils to continue to work closely with the sector in an advocacy role. “We see the role for our two councils will be to identify and support the development of critical infrastructure such as power, waste water management, suitable road networks including the potential for cattle underpasses, as well as industry skills development and inward investment opportunities for both the dairy farms and milk processors,” he said.

COMMUNITY CENTRE PROJECT OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY The first sod was turned at the Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre this afternoon to mark the official commencement of the $39.1 million Mount Gambier Community and Recreation Hub project. It follows a $15 million capital Australian Government funding agreement for the project under the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) formalised on April 1 and $10 million from the State Government RGF confirmed on April 18. Mount Gambier Mayor Lynete Martin said the ground-breaking event was a historic occasion for Mount Gambier. “It recognises the hard work and support shown by many stakeholders to get to this point including the present and former Council, staff, the Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin and the Community Reference Group (CRG),” she said. “The work continues from here behind the scenes to deliver the largest infrastructure project council has ever undertaken to our community by the end of 2021.” The Community and Recreation Hub will be designed as a multi-purpose community space, with facilities and activities for all ages and abilities including children, families, youth, community groups, recreational and organised sports and those with special needs. The intermediate design provides for a centrally located venue suitable for large conferences, events and performances for more than 1500 people, including smaller meeting rooms; six courts in two banks of three, with different court surfaces allowing for alternative uses; indoor climate

controlled aquatics facilities including a learn to swim pool, children’s water splash/play area, a 25 metre pool and a warm water pool; youth spaces for programming and activities and crèche, café, and office spaces for sporting groups and allied health. “Council is working with the design team to establish the draft implementation plan as a work in progress which will be further refined as we move forward,” Mayor Martin said. “You won’t physically see works happening on site for a few months, but there is a lot going on in

the background including development approvals, the commencement of soil and water testing and the timber feasibility study.” Work is expected to begin on site at Olympic Park on June 30. BACK TO BASICS FOR PHOTO COMPETITION The South East Natural Resources Management Board’s 2019 photo competition is now open, calling on local photographers to share their images of the South East’s natural treasures. Natural Resources South East sustainable communities coordinator Alison Boomsma said this year’s theme is ‘Back to Basics’. “We want to see what is at the core of what locals love about our region,” Alison said. “Water, soil, plants and animals are the basic elements of what makes our landscapes so special, so we’re adding an extra category this year - South East Ag Life. This special category will celebrate our region’s growers, producers and locals on farm and looking after their patch of land. The general photography category will cover our regions epic landscapes, diverse wildlife, and unique native plants.” Entries are welcome in traditional still photography and social media, with under 18 and open age groups. To enter on social media lifestyle1.net | 27

post your photos on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #nrmbacktobasics2019 and #myviewnrse, with #aglifese2019 if you are entering into the Ag category. Winners will share in some great prizes, and selected photos will feature on a range of our publications, social media channels and in the board’s 2020 calendar. “Ultimately we’re encouraging people to get outside and explore,

and capture what is special about our spectacular region,” she said. For more information, including terms, conditions, and entry forms see the Natural Resources South East website www.naturalresources.sa.gov. au/southeast. Entries close June 30. Above - Brown’s Bay Sunset by Tim Rosenthal.

SHOWCASING WATTLE RANGE

Entries for the 2019 Wattle Range Photographic Exhibition are now open with othe exhibition opening night scheduled for Friday, June 21. The annual exhibition captures the vibrancy and diversity of the Wattle Range region and since its inception in 2009, has developed to become one of the premier photographic exhibitions in South Australia. “Numbers continue to grow each year,” Wattle Range Council’s manager libraries & cultural services, Janice Nitschke said. “In 2018 the Millicent Gallery was filled with 420 outstanding entries received from local, Limestone Coast and interstate photographers. The exhibition has proven to be an excellent opportunity for new and developing

photographers to exhibit their images, be inspired and further develop their work. These many new entrants bring a fresh view of Wattle Range, and what we often take for normal now has a fresh meaning. The rise in popularity of social media over recent years has also allowed for everyone to ‘share’ this enthusiasm for photography.“ With 10 categories there is plenty of scope for shutterbugs to capture that special image. “We look forward to once again displaying a creative portrayal of our district and the people who make up our rich and diverse region,” Mrs Nitschke said. This year, a new category has been introduced - a category to celebrate the impressive water landscapes across lifestyle1.net | 28

Wattle Range: including the Millicent Swimming Lake, the redeveloped Nangwarry and Penola Swimming Pools, Pool of Siloam, and the lakes and waterways of Glencoe, Beachport and throughout the district. The winning photographs in each of the categories, along with many other notable snaps, are included in the highly sought-after Wattle Range Community Calendar. Missing experienced campaigners Sam Daly and Erik Burdon certainly tested the depth of the Pioneers Men’s line-up in its Saturday night clash with third ranked Southern Tigers and as a result, their road double started with an eight point loss. Imports Kentrell Barkley and Dayjar Dickson led the scoring with 26 and 21 points respectively with both also dominating the boars with Barkley pulling in 18 rebounds and Dickson, with 13. Brad Rathjen continued his solid return to the basketball court with 15 points and skipper Tom Daly had 10 as the Pioneers failed to hit 100 points on a rare occasion this season. After an even opening quarter, the Pioneers started to take control in the second and enjoyed a 17 point half time lead. With four minutes to play in the third, Rathjen hit a three that saw the lead blow up to a game high 22 points for the visitors and at three quarter time, the Pioneers still enjoyed an 18 point advantage. Hard to say what happened in the Southern Tigers three quarter time huddle but whatever it was, it worked with Hamish Burns coming out and hitting three threes as the Tigers’ opening baskets – his only successful shots from beyond the arc for the match. And he seemed to spark a three point shooting frenzy, with the Tigers hitting eight more from beyond the arc and with 1.52 to play, they had tied the ball game up. Perhaps it was fitting a buzzer beating three point shot saw the Southern Tigers secure that eight point victory. Prior to that frenetic final quarter, where the Tigers had the hot hands and the Pioneers managed only 12 points between them, the home side hit eight of its 12 three point shots for the match. The women’s team also suffered an eight point defeat in what was basically an arm wrestle from the opening tip off - in fact the final margin of eight points was the greatest lead either team enjoyed all match. Imports Pachis Roberts (20) and Amanda Frost (19) led the scoring, while Roberts (10) also hit double figures in rebounds, as did Olivia Wormald, with a game high 12. The Pioneers were taking on Eastern Mavericks in Sunday’s fixture so check out our facebook page for the final scores.

Above - The Pioneers will be hoping Sam Daly is back on court next round. Below 0 Olivia Warmald pulled in a game high 12 rebounds at the weekend against the Southern Tigers.

MASTERS TAKE TO THE DIAMOND The Mount Gambier Legends Baseball Club is hosting the 13th annual Mount Gambier Baseball Masters tournament rom May 10-12 at Blue Lake Sports Park. Six teams have nominated for the event, that has official sanctioning from the Australian Baseball Federation. Unfortunately, due to the recent South Australian Regional Masters Games being held in Port Pirie, in which many Adelaide based teams participated, and the fact that the tournament is being played on Mother’s Day weekend, only one team from Adelaide has nominated for the event. That is the Northern Aces who have yet to miss playing in this competition. Four clubs from Mount Gambier will play in the tournament. They are Central, Mount Gambier Tigers, Mt Gambier Misfits and, of course, the Legends. From Victoria, Williamstown Rangers, which is a combination of players from Williamstown and Naracoorte have also nominated. Each team will play five games over the weekend which gets under way on Friday evening. Two diamonds will be constantly in use over the weekend. Two games will be played on Friday with the first game on Diamond 1 commencing at 6pm between Mount Gambier Legends and Mount Gambier Tigers. The final game for the day between Central and Willy Rangers commences at 7.45pm under lights. All games are 90 minutes. Nine games will be played on Saturday with the first at 9.45am and the final game of the day starting at 5pm under lights between Mount Gambier Misfits and Mount Gambier Legends. A round of four games will complete the tournament on Sunday with the first at 10am. The winning team will have their name engraved on the perpetual trophy and medallions will be presented to the players in the first, second and third ranked teams. Full catering facilities are available at the baseball clubrooms all weekend. lifestyle1.net | 31

GREATER PLAYER POWER Greater Western Sydney star Josh Kelly has agreed to terms of a contract extension. While the initial term is for a further two years where the contract is unique is it is believed that Kelly has become the first player in the game’s history to have the power to activate a clause in his favour to extend the deal by a further four seasons, ultimately making the contract a potential six-year deal.

A NAME TO WATCH An American High school athlete, Matthew Boling, has just ran the fastest 100m sprint ever recorded by a high school athlete clocking 9.98 seconds (wind assisted) for the dash. While he may still be in high school, many believe he can earn a spot on the American track team at next year’s Olympics in Tokyo.

THE NEXT AVENGER? A photo of Carolina Panthers running back Christian McAffery as pre-season training has been getting plenty of media attention including suggestions his pre-season training program was actually supervised by Marvel Avengers supervillain Thanos.

HUGE WEEKEND OF CYCLING IN CASTERTON

THE DEMONS’ BEST REACHES 400

Mount Gambier Cycling Club’s riders enjoyed a strong weekend at Wal’s Weekend of Cycling in Casterton at the end of last month, consisting of the Casterton 50, an 84km handicapped race now in its 74th edition that has been running continuously since 1946, as well as the Kelpie Classic, part of the South West Series, and the Victorian 100km Championships. With 13 members travelling over to compete over the two days, Scott Waters and Matt Opperman fared the best on Saturday with first and second respectively in the D Grade of the Casterton 50. While most riders found the first leg of the course out to Dunrobin and back fairly flat and not too taxing they soon changed their minds when they started heading south out to Sandford, Henty, Marino, Digby and back over some very difficult hills and battling some severe cross winds on the way forcing quite a few riders to retire early. The Kelpie Classic on Sunday saw Freya Millar take out second and Molly Opperman fourth in the Under 11/13 who

both rode very well on a wet and steep course. Tess Wight managed a fourth in the Under 15/17 handicapped event and had to ride the same tough street circuit as the seniors with one nasty hill over at the back of the circuit and the long drawn out hill on the main street up to the hospital. The senior race this year was run as a graded scratch race consisting of four grades - A, B, C & D - with A & B grades running together but given individual points for each grade. After being promoted into B Grade and riding with some high calibre riders, Matthew Opperman managed a ninth place over a torturous seven laps. C & D Grade were run separately with a few minutes between them and the A/B Grade group. D Grade placings were taken out by Amy Wight, first, Spek Peake, second, and Phil McGee, third. Mount Gambier riders, Molly Opperman and Tess Wight were awarded Wal Smith Scholarships. Molly is in her first year of racing and Tess, her second.

It was as an emerging talent, only 13 years old, that Toni Lee Gilmore (then Gray) approached then Port MacDonnell A Grade coach Lisa King, asking to be able to train with the club’s top side. “I just wanted to keep learning and to push myself,” Toni said. Rewarding the teenager’s initiative and recognising her talent, the A Grade coach was happy to have the promising goaler at training sessions and so the youngster did everything asked of her in a bid to improve her game and perhaps gain an opportunity in senior ranks. “It was a good 12 months, in fact nearly two years before I got my opportunity, though,” Toni said. “I remember Lisa (King) saying I had to earn my stripes and I guess the rest is history.” And what a history in a story that is still going strong. In round two when the Demons took on Nangwarry Toni took to the court for her 400th game and while her first A Grade mentor, Lisa King, will always be one of the club’s most decorated players, her protégé – Toni made her A Grade debut as a 14 year old, is now clearly number one. After opting to play A Reserve in 2018, where she was named the association’s best and fairest player and guided her team mates to the title decider, Toni is back in A Grade this season, renewing her goaling combination with Sophie Johnson (Roach). So basically, with time off to have her two beautiful boys, Toni has been part of Port MacDonnell’s top side since 1997, playing her first two years doubling up in juniors. She earned three club best & fairests in junior ranks, and has added to those club accolades at senior level, although no one will probably ever catch Lisa King when it comes to those titles. It was in the 2000s when the young goaler, whose game was built around well timed moved, long range accuracy, outstanding rolls and pace on the drive, really hit her straps. She was part of the club’s breakthrough 2002 premiership where the Demons caused a stunning upset to end Kalangadoo’s run of eight straight titles, and was named best on court after netting 39 of her side’s 41 goals in a dominant display. The next year, she was named the best & fairest player in the Mid South East Netball Association, was runner up the following season and runner-up again in 2009 – the season she returned to the Bay after three years strutting her stuff in the Western Border Netball Association with North Gambier, where

she showed she was not just a Mid South East superstar but simply one of the best in the region. She played in two more A Grade premierships, when Lisa and Amy Cram were at the helm of the Demons in 2009 and 2011, and in 2016 she was awarded life membership of the club. She has also been a decorated representative player for Mid South East and this season is joining forces with Abbey Duncan to coach the association’s SA Country Champion ship line-up. Her battles with Kalangadoo defenders Jayde Peacock and Narelle Ryan are legendary. “They were definitely two of the toughest opponents I came up against,” Toni said. “You just knew you wouldn’t get an easy ball when you lined up on them and I always enjoyed the challenge.” Kongorong’s Lisa Hawkins was also another tough opponent for Toni, especially in her early years and she looked to make her mark as a young A Grade player. Toni has coached and umpired over the years too and is a premiership coach for the Demons at 17 & Under level and had a few seasons in the top job at the Bay. Toni also won the Sister Mules Medal for best on court in the ANZAC weekend clash with Nangwarry, making her 400th game a double celebration.

LOCAL SPORT MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOLS COMBINE FORCES Several martial arts schools across a variety of different styles came together last month to attend a mixed training seminar, the first of its kind in the Mount Gambier region. Organised by Sidai Anthony Baseley, of Jik Cheung Kung Fu Australia, participants from the Mount Gambier Jujitsu Club, Mount Gambier Martial Arts Academy, Azure Tae Kwon Do, Jik Cheung Kung Fu Australia, Naracoorte Limestone Coast Kyokushin Karate and the Society of Martial Arts (SOMA) Australia attended the seminar, hosted by the Mount Gambier Martial Arts Academy at their O’Halloran Terrace Dojo. The first training session was presented by Hanshi Barrie Revell, President of SOMA Australia and his student Kyoshi Geoff Warden, who travelled from Adelaide to attend on the day. Drawing on extensive experience in multiple styles of karate and other martial arts, Hanshi Revell provided insight into the basics of hanbo (short stick) fighting to seminar attendees, working on a variety of attacking, defending and disarming techniques. A short session on bokken (wooden swords) followed, providing the students with further exposure to new weapons. To finish off the first session of the day, Hanshi Revell performed the “eight cuts” sword kata. Sensei Dave Grassi, of the Mount Gambier Jujitsu Club (teaching a Japanese Jujitsu based purely on self-defence), delivered the second training session, focusing on showcasing a range of jujitsu wrist and arm locks. Students were instructed in the art of trapping an opponent

from a variety of different attacks, including wrist grabs, throat grabs, side throat grabs and handshakes. Methods of escaping these attacks without engaging the opponent or escalating the situation were also taught. Sensei Grassi’s session highlighted the importance of the first movement of a sequence; a theme consistent across multiple martial arts. Following a social break over BBQ lunch, Sensei Greg Povey, of the Mount Gambier Martial Arts Academy demonstrated several conditioning drills of Kyokushin Karate, providing insight into the sparring philosophy of the host Dojo. The collaborative atmosphere of the training seminar saw students of various ranks guiding and mentoring students from other martial arts styles through various sparring related techniques. Participants were instructed in various conditioning exercises to minimise the damage felt during sparring, distance manipulation drills to improve ring craft and control of a fight, and response training in order to improve reaction times post receiving a hit during a sparring match. Senior instructors from the Azure Taekwon Do Club then provided a session dedicated to balance, control and precision as students were guided through Taekwondo kicks and strengthening exercises. Starting a traditional Taekwondo stance, seminar attendees were guided through a series of connected kicks, starting with smaller movements and gradually expanding as the session continued. The session provided an opportunity for karate, kung fu and jujitsu students to experience a very different method of kicking, and develop awareness of new methods of attack. The session concluded with a challenging series of stretches focusing on improving flexibility to allow a greater range of movement in attack. A brief session by Jik Cheung Kung Fu Australia completed the seminar,

with Sidai Terry Farrell demonstrating the use of Muk Yan (wooden dummy) and the applications of this apparatus in self-defence. Students were shown how to adapt techniques practiced on the wooden dummy to real life defensive scenarios. Utilising combinations of hands, elbows and kicks, attendees were briefly shown how to redirect their opponent and complete an effective counter attack in one flowing motion. Throughout the day, students were encouraged to train with different martial arts styles to develop further understanding of the principles and differences in each. At the end of a successful day of training, attendees all agreed the day presented many learning opportunities and challenges. All involved look forward to continuing to provide mixed training seminars to martial arts schools around Mount Gambier and the surrounding districts in future, with hopes this event will become an annual fixture. LOCAL SPORT LITTLE LEAGUE SUCCESS Mount Gambier and District Baseball League recently sent a team to compete in the State Little League Development Series held in Adelaide at West Beach. This series was set up to develop Under 13 baseball players and is a stepping stone for future competitions in which this team will compete in the State Little League Championships. Mount Gambier were drawn against Adelaide teams Seahawks, Marlins and Rays and an Under 15 development girls team. All the Adelaide teams playing were chosen from teams that compete in the South Australian Baseball League. Game one was against Seahawks on the Friday night where most players were playing under lights for the first time. This was a great challenge for all players with the Seahawks coming out and scoring heavily in the first two innings. The young Mount Gambier team kept fighting with great pitching by Curtis Page and great fielding at second base by Bo Sampson. Jett Lewis lead the way with the bat with four safe hits, while Blake Vause, Dylan Lewis and Daniel Ferguson. who also picked up three runs batted in, all secured two safehits apiece. The final score was a 16-12 loss. Game two saw Mount Gambier up against the Under 15 development

girls team. This was an even match with pitcher Bree Ridding taking control with the ball, and in the batting box the Mount Gambier team started to string their hits together. Stand-up triples from Javi Mee, Daniel Ferguson and Liam McDonald saw Mount Gambier eventually win the game 17 to 12. Best with the bat were Javi Mee with three hits, with Axel VonStanke, Blake Vause and Liam McDonald all hitting safely twice. In game three Mount Gambier faced off against the Rays. Jett Lewis continued his outstanding tournament, this time dominating with the ball, pitching a very good game of baseball. Also helping out defensively was the field with some great catches from Tristan Miller at centre field. This was an outstanding effort by all players in Mount Gambier uniform with every player recording a safe hit in this game. Leading the way with hits was Jett Lewis with three and Brock Dempsey, Daniel Ferguson, Tristan Miller and Dylan Lewis each with two hits. In the end Mount Gambier were big winners 14 to 2. Game Four saw Mount Gambier face off against the undefeated Marlins. This was a great display of baseball from both sides. Mount Gambier pitchers were rotated with Blake Vause, Axel Von Stanke, Javi Mee and Dylan Lewis

all getting a chance. A high-level display of fielding from Daniel Ferguson at shortstop and Blake Vause in centre field put a scare into the undefeated Marlins outfit. With the bat, an in the park home run from Dylan Lewis saw him lead the way with three hits, with two hits each to Daniel Ferguson and Jett Lewis. But in the end, Marlins were too strong, securing victory, 6 to 2.

Tegan Menzel (Hamilton); Pru Riddoch (Mount Gambier); Rhyan Menzel (Hamilton); Harry Opperman (Mount Gambier) and Haydn Riley (Hamilton) rounded out the top eight finishers. In the Under 11 & 13 junior race, over 10kms, Hamilton’s Lucas Riley was first across the line from Mount Gambier’s Eddie Buckland and Port Fairy’s Asha Graham. Elmer Buckland (Hamilton); Molly Opperman (Mount Gambier); Freya Miller (Mount Gambier) and Erik Howie (Port Fairy) were the other top eight riders across the line.

SOLDIERS MEMORIAL RACE ATTRACTS GOOD NUMBERS

The Mt Gambier cycling club, in conjunction with the Mt Gambier Community RSL held the prestigious handicapped 50km De Garis Lawyers Soldiers Memorial Road Race on Anzac Day. The race attracted more than 50 riders, including seniors and juniors, from the Limestone Coast and South West Victoria. In honour of the day, the Last Post was played with Mount Gambier RSL Ladies Auxiliary member and RSL executive member Margaret Winterfield firing the starter’s gun for both the junior and senior events. The senior race was taken out by Hamilton’s Luke McLaren, with Mount

Gambier’s Darryl Patzel and Bruce McLaughlin filling the minor placings. The top 10 was rounded out with Port Fairy’s Andrew Graham, Mal Clayton, from Hamilton, Mount Gambier riders Josh Waters and Spek Peake, Hamilton’s Nikki Menzel, who was also the first female across the finish line, and Port Fairy’s Jason Puschenjak and Portland’s Harold Morton. Angus Maddern continued his superb local form but posting the fastest time, while the best of the Mount Gambier female riders was Summer Series champion Amy Wight. The Under 15 & 17 juniors raced a 20km course with host club rider Niel Van Niekerk taking

On the court she has great speed and vision and works as hard as anyone in the competition. Off the court she prepares meticulously and is also a willing and capable volunteer, who ensures the East Gambier Netball Club continues to thrive. Tarsh McCallum is the type of player and club member, any club would love to have and every club would like to clone. In round two of Western Border netball action, the three time Team of the Year member clocked up her 300th game – the second at the Bulldogs to do so, and in the same way her former team mate and inaugural member of the 300 club Sarah Lock did, the milestone celebrations were marred by Millicent, who have defeated East on both occasions they have been honouring these champions. Since returning from Adelaide in 2014, Tarsh has been an integral part of the Bulldogs’ resurgence and regular appearance in finals after years in the wilderness in terms of on court success. She has coached the A Grade side in conjunction with Bo Creek, Sarah Lock and now young guns Morgan Amy and Tenille Gray, and her expertise in fitness, preparation and recovery has seen the East program move into the elite category. She is a player who leads by example and who asks no more from her players than what she gives – which is everything, every week. Her performance in her 300th game typified her career. She ran hard both ways, she looked to lead her side with her actions and words as she looked to stop the Saints juggernaut, and she was her side’s best on the day. Tarsh has a trophy cabinet full of individual club accolades and

It was all about goal keeper Hayley Dunn at the weekend, when the star Millicent defender played her 300th game for the Saints. For Hayley, her netball career started in the Millicent Netball Association, before moving across to Millicent when she was 13 to join the 15 and under competition. By the time she was 16 she was in the A grade line up, spending two years in the top grade before university beckoned. A Bachelor of International Business at Flinders University kept Hayely busy and she spent the first year away from the netball court. She returned to the court in 1996, as part of the Adelaide Cougars State League Reserves line-up, alongside current team mate and long time friend Donna Denton. Both had a chance in the top grade during that season before forcing their way into the State League line-up in 1997. During this time Hayley also represented South Australia at under 19 and under 21 level. Hayley then moved to Sydney playing State League for Baulkham Hills and Bankstown before moving to Melbourne at the end of 2004 as her professional career continued to go from strength to strength. It was in 2005 that Dunn first returned to a Millicent uniform, playing enough games to qualify for finals and whether it was her grand plan or not, Donna Denton had planted the seed and the following season, Hayley returned, moving out of the information management area to secure a human resource position with Kimberly-Clark Australia, looking at recruitment and selection and industrial relations. Hayley admitted she was career focussed and never thought she would return to Millicent, especially so soon. “But when you have a family (she had two boys by this stage), your perspective changes and it was great to have that family network around us,” she said. “I thought about my upbringing in the country and there is just so many opportunities and I wanted that for my kids.” And she enjoyed a return to the netball court for a full season. “It was great to play under Donna – the intensity she brings to the game,” Dunn said. “After experiencing the professionalism and the hard work and fitness needed to play at the top level, it was great to be being pushed again.” She has, in fact, been part of 12 Saints titles, 2006

she always polls strongly in the Western Border Netball Association A Grade count. She was a premiership coach in 2010 of East Gambier’s 15 & Under team and she has also been an integral part of representative netball. As a junior she was a regular Western Border representative and was part of the 13 & Under SA Country Champion ship winning and Western Zone winning team in 2004 and since her return has regularly been a junior selector. SOUTH EAST VETERANS GOLF Fifty-seven golfers made up the field at Bordertown and good scoring was the order of the day. First Division was won by Vyv Bennison, with 41 points, from Gordon Fleming, 40, and Brian Slape, 38. Second Division went to Adrian Thiele, on 42, and three players had 41 with the scribe losing the countback to the two locals, David Lowe and Pat Seneca. I got the three putts on the last couple of holes, living up to my pseudonym of “got the snake”. The Ross Orchard Trophy went to newcomer Rob Ceze, from Robe, and Chris Leach, from Bordertown. There were five NTP winners, Pat Seneca, Brian Sherlock, Jeff Nitschke, David Lowe, and Peter Barras. The ball rundown went to 33 or better. The four tee hit off didn’t eventuate at Bordertown, but a trial will be offered at Beachport using their 1st and 5th tees. Members are asked not to arrive too early, as the tee off time will be 9.30 for the trial run. The Beachport event is May 13, while Harrow on May 20 is the three way challenge, and Casterton on May 27 is the Glenelg district match, with only one game next month - June 17 at Millicent.

Along with those 12 premiership medals, Hayley has also been selected in the Western Border Team of the Year for 12 consecutive seasons, unanimously selected by opposition coaches, and there is a raft of defenders who have had the privilege of learning from the premier goal keeper of the past decade. Nicole Butler, Casey Hutchesson, Kimmi Varcoe, Alex Walker, Ashleigh Gallio, Tanaya Redman, Madi Haggett and Hannah Nitschke have all been schooled by the Saints goal keeper, who has also secured four club best & fairest runners-up over the career as well. Hayley also has had a glittering career in representative netball, both in junior ranks and also as part of three SA Country Championship winning line-ups in the A Grade competition. Hayley is now passing on her knowledge to the youngest Saints, coaching the 11 & Under team for last year and into this season as well, and she has been a committee member and club secretary over the journey.
