COVER • SERVICING ALL YOUR ELECTRICAL NEEDS As a young child, Michael Mustart loved watching his grandfather work – he was an electrician who ran his own business and Michael was hooked. Not surprisingly, as a 16 year old, he left school and secured an electrical apprenticeship, and the rest, as they say, is history. He worked hard, gained a wealth of experience and five years ago, after almost two decades in the industry, Michael branched out on his own, fulfilling the lifelong dream of following in his grandfather’s footsteps. As that fifth anniversary of Mustart Electrical approached, the business was nominated for its second Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Award, which amounts to a huge tick of approval from the local community Michael and his team serves. “It was amazing to be nominated for the second time and to know that people out there think you are doing a good job,” Michael said. “We have such a loyal base of customers and we thank them for their ongoing support.” Nominated for the Outstanding Service Industry Award, Mustart Electrical was one of three finalists named, further proof the business is on the right track. Offering domestic, commercial & industrial electrical services, Mustart Electrical is also at the cutting edge of solar technology and can take you through the design, purchase and installation of a solar system for your home or business.

They have a “no job is too big or too small” mantra and they service the entire Limestone Coast. “We offer energy efficient solutions for your home or business and we have the man power and expertise to do a range of electrical jobs,” Michael said. Michael is backed by a fantastic team, of qualified electricians Cameron Saint and Brendan Tonkin, as well as fourth year apprentice Mathew Taylor. It is a business that is all about locals serving locals, with Michael being born and bred in Mount Gambier. Having that strong local connection also sees Michael generously sponsoring a number of sporting clubs and assisted numerous community groups with fundraising, including a strong relationship he has built with the Stand Like Stone Foundation. “My team and I are just so grateful for the support we have received over the past five years and look forward to working with our long standing customers and new faces going forward,” Michael said. So call Mustart Electrical today for all your electrical needs and solar.

GLENELG SHIRE MAYOR MAKES HISTORY

TEST

YOUR HEARING

Do you suspect that your hearing is not as good as it used to be?

Cr Anita Rank has made history in the Glenelg Shire Council Chambers after being re-elected for a third consecutive term as Glenelg Shire Mayor. The Portland-based councillor (pictured right with CEO Greg Burgoyne), who first joined the chamber in 2012 has become the first Mayor to be reelected for a third consecutive term. The passionate community advocate said it was a “great honour” to represent the shire for another term. “The quality of publications, plans and reports delivered, particularly in the last year, demonstrates what a proactive and forward thinking council we have here in the Glenelg Shire,” Cr Rank said. “I am proud to be in a position to be able to take a stance on social issues and speak up for those less fortunate in our community. During my two terms as Mayor I have been involved in many significant events and announcements; the most noticeable highlight from this year was the inclusion of the traditional owners in our Reconciliation Week events, a newfound tradition I hope to continue. I am proud to represent the Glenelg Shire for another term as Mayor; I am very excited for what the future will bring for our region.” Cr Rank achievements during her time as Mayor have included securing funding for major events such as the return of the successful Hooked on Portland festival, support for the continuation and growth of the Great South Coast Cycling Tour and taking an active role to promote investment opportunities in the region

capacity are widely recognised and supported within the shire,” Cr Geoff White said. “We thank Cr Rank for her tireless contributions to the shire, the past year has been very rewarding and as a council we have achieved many great things under her guidance,” said Cr Chrissy Hawker. Cr Mary-Ann Brown was re-elected as Southern Grampians Mayor and Cr Chris Sharples was re-elected as Deputy Mayor for the 2018-2019 term.

CHILD SAFETY WORKSHOPS Registrations are now open for a 1:5 Child Safety Workshop, led by Xenia and Simon Schembri. A Mount Gambier and a Portland session is on offer for professionals, parents and other members of the community, with a focus on what role they can play in assisting children to recover from the trauma of sexual abuse. Recognition and mandatory reporting will also be covered briefly. The Mount Gambier session is from 6-8pm, preceded by refrehsments from 5.45pm, on November 30, at the Mount Gambier City Hall. The Portland session is on December 1, from 1.30-3.30pm, also with refreshments from 1.15pm. The Portland session will be hosted at the library. The cost is $25 and you need to register online at www. attheark.org.au by November 23. GOOD TURNOUT FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

Mount Gambier has a new Mayor with the provisional election of Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce President Lynette Martin OAM to the top job. Mrs Martin defeated incumbent Andrew Lee and civic leadership newcomer Mark Jones in the three horse race. Mrs Martin polled more than 5000 first preference votes out of the more than 8000 cast in the Mount Gambier council area, with Mr Lee claiming 2040. The eight councillor positions up for grabs, after Mount Gambier City Council opted to reduce councillor numbers from 10 to eight, is a much tighter race and will not be decided until preferences are distributed early this week. New nominee, and a Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce board colleague of Mrs Martin, Ben Hood, dominated the voting,, with former Mayor and long serving councillor Steve Perryman also polling strongly – both men have easily eclipsed the quota. Incumbent councillor Sonya Mezinec, former State Government hopeful Kate Amoroso and former councillor Paul Jenner also polled strongly and are the frontrunners to also earn one of the eight vacancies, leaving three positions to be hotly contested. “A total of 8286 votes were received with a voter turnout of 42.85 per cent, which is an increase of about 1.5 per cent in comparison to the local government elections in 2014,” City of Mount Gambier CEO Mark McShane said. The tightest mayoral race was fought in the District Council of Grant with Richard Sage earning another term with a mere 115 vote margin over long standing councillor Alan Hill. The race is still on for the seven vacant council positions, all set to come from the Central Ward, with Shirley Little elected unopposed in the Tarpeena Ward and Gill Clayfield in the same boat in the Port MacDonnell Ward. Des Noll defeated Dennis Muhovics

ion the Wattle Range Mayoral race with Peter Dunnicliff and Kevin McGrath (Kintore Ward) enjoyed an unopposed election. The provisional results in the other wards, saw Rick Paltridge and Dean Burrow installed in the Riddoch Ward, John Drew, Sharon Cox, Glenn Brown, Moira Neagle and Graham Slarks in Corcoran, Rick Paltridge and Dean Burrow in Roddch, and Dale Price and Deb Agnew in the Sorby Adams Ward. In the Naracoorte Lucindale elections, Erika Vickery was overwhelmingly returned as Mayor,

while the fate of the 17 nominations for the 10 council vacancies will not be known until preference distribution this week. Alison Nunan won the Robe District Council mayoral race, while the council vacancies have been provisionally filled by Peter Risely, Bob Bates, Rino Dell’Antonio, Ned Wright and David Laurie. Kay Rasheed has been provisionally elected as Kingston District Council Mayor with the seven council vacancies set to be filled by Chris England, Jodie Gluyas, Rick Wingard, Michael Ringshaw, Jeff Pope, William Armfield and Tim Harding. Graham Excell was elected Tatiara District Council Mayor unopposed with the nine council positions secured by Robert Mock, Maureen Oliver, Jamie Jackson, Ken McInerney, Miles Hannemann, David Edwards, Cathy Langley, Diana Penniment and Liz Goossens. All results are provisional and will be ratified some time this week. RUNFEST IN LOCAL CRICKET It was a long day in the field for Kongorong in Crouch Shield action and the Hawks, no doubt, rue the decision to send Glencoe into bat at the weekend, with the Murphies amassing 9/439 from their 70 overs, headlined by an entertaining 244 from Tory Weaver. Weaver combined with an injured Leigh Von Duve (68), who suffered a side strain, for a 272 third wicket stand. It was a stand and deliver type performance, with Weaver clubbing 15 sixes and 24 fours and perhaps, not surprinsgly, ended with a catch on the boundary of a slightly mis-timed lofted straight drive. In Barber Shield action, North Gambier duo Jake Schutz (115) and Mitch Lewis (122) also spent signifcant time in the middle, making West’s fielders chase plenty of leather, while Mil Lel’s Craig Lock gave some respectability to the bowlers with his 5/15 from seven overs in the clash with East Gambier. The second wicket stand between Schutz and Lewis yielded 149 runs, although unlike the lusty hitting from Weaver, the two North innings were more measured, featuring a lot of singles and twos. REGISTER TO GO INTO THE DRAW TO WIN GREAT PRIZES!

The historical cars interspersed the night with demonstrations but the was also plenty of serious racing with the program highlight being the street stock action. Local stars Anthony Beare, who is the current Australian champion, and Mark Jennings battled it out at the front in the final with Jennings taking the honours. The podium was, in fact, all current or former national championships, with Geelong’s Brad McClure finishing third. Mildura’s Corey Sandow finished fourth. “It was really good close racing right throughout the race,” club president Cary Jennings said. “The whole night was fantastic and people really loved that we brought back the grand parade, something we haven’t done since the ‘80s.” There was plenty for locals to cheer about in the junior sedans as well with Penola’s Brad Garter finishing atop the podium, from Hamilton’s Jye Irvine. Adelaide based driver Drew Flatman was third. With the rescheduled 2018 South Australian Super Sedan Title set to run at the Borderline Speedway next meeting, November 24, after being cancelled back in March, the super sedan field saw drivers taking advantage of a practice at the track on Saturday night, with Adelaide’s Brian Alexander taking out the event from Kim Jury, also from Adelaide and Echuca’s Lucas Roberts. Penola’s Dave Gartner will be a genuine threat for the SA title on November 24. Sportsmans will be the main support program at that State title deciding meet.

TALENTED RUNNER SNARES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP She holds the State title in two events, she was nominated for Athletics SA Athlete of the Year, she is training with two elite athletics squads and now she is the recipient of the highly regarded Trisha Flett & Sally-Jane Allen Sports Scholarship. Hannah Elliott, a middle distance runner, who has been focussing on the 2km steeplechase and 1500m, took home the scholarship at the 28th presentation of the honour last week. She became the 49th young South East athlete to receive assistance through the scholarship program, which provides financial assistance through the scholarship fund, as well as support from David Jones, from Intersport, and Simon Brook, from Squashbrook. From netball to athletics, from karate to squash and everything in between, the athletes to have been awarded the scholarship, have often excelled at more than one sport – just like the two girls – Trisha and Sally-Jane – in whose memory the scholarship was established. The scholarship fund was set up following a fundraiser, after the girls’ tragic deaths in a 1990 car accident, which saw the community give generously to allow the two families to set up this memorial scholarship. Each year the nominations are assessed by a group of the region’s PE teachers and each year it is a tough task to choose a winner or in so many cases winners, in fact in 17 of the 27 previous years, the judges have been unable to split two or three athletes for the award. There were eight nominees for the 2018 scholarship representing

sports including basketball, netball, rowing, hip hop, hockey and athletics. Hannah is a member of the Limestone Coast Regional Sporting Academy, Little Athletics and has been her athletics age champion at Tenison Woods College for the past three years. She is part of Athletics SA’s Gold Squad, part of the invitation only elite talent program, and has represented the State in cross country since 2013, captaining the team in 2014. At national level, Hannah has consistently been ranked in the top 10 2km steeplechase competitors and in the top 20 for the 1500m and this year she was nominated for SA Athletics Athlete of the Year. She is the reigning State champion in both the 2km steeplechase and 1500m and was part of an Athletics SA tour to the United State where she competed in California,

Nevada and Arizona and won five of her seven races. Hannah is already in discussions with US Colleges about pursuing her athletics and further study in the coming years but rest assured her ultimate goal is to represent Australia. “I am so grateful to the Allen and Flett families for providing this kind of help to young athletes,” Hannah said. “It is so generous and it will really help with everything I am trying to achieve.” 2018 NOMINEES EMILY CLOSE • LIAM DELANEY • HANNAH ELLIOTT • SHAKAYLA GORDON • TOBY MADDERN • KERYL OUSEY • OLI THOMSON • BROOKE TONON Above - 2018 Trisha Flett & Sally-Jane Allen Sports Scholarship winner Hannah Elliott (centre) with Ian & Wendy Flett (left) and Rose & Chris Allen (right)

COLLECTED STUPIDITY - DON’T MESS WITH THE CLASSICS… By ROBBIE TANSEL At what point did it become acceptable to wreck things that were perfectly fine how they were? A friend gave me a lovely tin of Roses chocolates recently. I don’t mind telling you, I was pretty darn excited about those Roses chocolates. Throughout my life, when I’ve found myself in possession of a box of Roses chocolates, that has meant that I’m having a really good day. As much as I like a box of Favourites chocolates (which is also quite a lot), I’ve never had the same feelings for Favourites chocolates, that I have had for Roses chocolates. Now I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but they’ve gone and changed the Roses chocolates! And to be fair, I’ve still eaten all of the chocolates (except the Turkish Delights that are only included in case you have Turkish friends visiting), they were still delicious, and it was still a fantastic thank you gift. But it wasn’t quite the same. So why would Cadbury take something that was already brilliant and change it (except for the Turkish Delights which are completely unnecessary – who has Turkish friends anyway?) My theory is it’s because of that whole clichéd companies that failed to innovate presentation that we’ve all sat through dozens of times. You know, Nokia were the most popular mobile phone company and had the market cornered, but failed to see the world was changing and along came the iPhone. Or Kodak were making millions manufacturing camera film (sorry to all you millennials who have never experienced the uncertainty of taking a photo and not knowing until you’ve taken another 23, taken the film down to a chemist or photo printing shop, and then waited a couple of days for it to develop, to find out if your photo was any good) but suddenly were forced out of the market by digital cameras. Blockbuster Video thought they were going to last forever borrowing out DVDs to families, but along came Netflix. I think the Roses people were tricked into thinking they had to change their offering or Apple would start designing iChocolates. I think people presenting professional development need to start delivering presentations on things that were perfectly fine how they were and were ruined by unnecessarily messing with them. We’ll start with Roses chocolates. Like I said, essentially perfection. Start with the Classic Milk Chocolate. No fancy caramels. No fruit filling. Just chocolate. If that was all the confectionery you had available to you for life, you’d still have a fulfilling life. You wouldn’t feel like you were missing out on anything. Classic. Peppermint Cream. Again. How can you go wrong? Classic chocolate on the outside, and delicious soft peppermint on the inside. New Roses has Peppermint Crème Crunch. They’ve taken something that was magical and perfect, and thrown weird crunchy bits in. Just tell me why. Classic Roses had my next favourite, Strawberry Cream. Classic chocolate on the outside again, and delightful creamy strawberry on the inside. Mmmmmm. What else do you need? I never ate Strawberry Cream and thought, it’s okay, but what I’d really like is delicate raspberry pieces blended with creamy white chocolate. Did someone say that’s what they were looking for? Is it tasty? Yes. But it’s not Strawberry Cream. For some reason they decided to include Dark Mocha Nougat as one of the new Roses chocolates. I already end up with unwanted Turkish Delights left at the bottom of the box, and now I’m adding mocha chocolates to my left over unwanted chocolates. Don’t even get me started on Hazelnut Swirl and Hazelnut Crème Crisp. Was anyone really crying out for two different varieties of nut based chocolates? And if you’re going to have two different nut chocolates, at least do us the respect of using different nuts in each. And surely the best nuts are cashews anyway. Why are they never featured in chocolates? Is it because they’re curly? I think there’s some sort of prejudice against curly nuts at play here. If change is making things better, I’m all for it. Nokia phones sucked anyway. Who liked going to the video shop to get a movie? All the copies of whatever you wanted had been borrowed out anyway. If you think I just don’t like change, email me at robbietansel@gmail.com I need to finish these chocolates off anyway. They’re growing on me.

IN THE GARDEN With the late start to spring and its up and down days we are running madly at the moment with the lead up to Christmas coming way too soon. Yes, Christmas is just around the corner.... Sorry, someone had to say it.....but with less than six weeks to go, it’s time to start getting those Christmas thoughts together. It has certainly been an interesting year weather wise and the spring moisture will allow us to continue with good plantings up to Christmas and beyond...hopefully, it would just be nicer if the winds would disappear. This spring we have been busier than ever, and being the largest nursery in the region, and only nursery in Mount Gambier, we have almost completed our expansion of the Limestone Coast Advanced Trees part of the business and the new gift shop area is packed full of ideas for the gardener and non-gardener, including the popular high quality stainless steel and ash tool range from the UK. There is still plenty of stock arriving between now and Christmas, so call back frequently as its forever changing, with all our shipments of garden giftware, outdoor furniture, birdhouses, wall art and much of the ranges I found on my travels. Our huge pre-Christmas sale starts today with up to 70% off giftware, glazed and terracotta pots, wall art, statues and ornaments, terrariums and water features. With reclaimed teak birdhouses from India, to wrought iron and cast iron ware from within Australia and statues from Indonesia, the range is overwhelming. Remember, too, that much of our stock is handpicked from small batches made by developing and poor countries, so many items are one offs and we will never have them again. A great gift idea for that someone special, safe in the knowledge that no one else will have them. The Pot Shop section is still undergoing a transformation with a new container of pots just landed and being added to the new sales area as the days roll on more and more Christmas stock is being put out. You can layby now for Christmas and leave picking up until as late as Christmas Eve if you wish. A new shipment of A Grade teak outdoor furniture with added bar settings, four person settings and a whole new Teak Garden Bench range that will last for ever. We have not had a chance to add these to the website with all of the current furniture additions including a new high pressure laminate table from Belgium which looks ultra slick and some new ceramic table tops in a timber look in two shades. Our 2019 range of outdoor tables come in travertine and marble, cast aluminium, PVC, German wicker, with three year warranty, teak which, of lifestyle1.net | 26

By Calum Haygarth Landscape Architect & Horticultural Consultant

course, is the premier outdoor furniture timber, with high oil content and has a lifetime warranty. A new shipment of Kubu (real wicker) has just come in, too, and we have added to this range a two seater bench to add to our already comprehensive range of garden benches, trees surround seats and outdoor swing seats. These blend well with our own imported ranges of furniture to offer the widest selection of quality outdoor furniture in the Limestone Coast and Western Districts. If you would like a new setting for Christmas, don’t leave it too late as all of our containers have landed and been unpacked. Our online presence has increased immensely with the new look website and we are endeavouring to get an online shopping cart up and running soon as we have outgrown our local population incredibly over the past few years and with the mail order/online rose order and fruit tree sales now dominating our overall sales. Roses are being despatched via mail and courier all through the year along with fruit, ornamental trees and pittosporum and Box hedging as we are the lowest prices. We can freight throughout the readership area and right across Australia. A whole new range of our ever popular driftwood gift ideas and garden and seaside décor has just landed adding to the range of driftwood Christmas trees, wreaths and stars, and even reindeers (see advert opposite page) from the driftwood collected by villagers after the tidal waves in the Philippines, allowing them to rebuild their lives. A few new designs in the driftwood birdhouses (see advert opposite page) have also been added to the range and arrived this week. We still have a few planters and wind chimes in driftwood and bamboo available at 50% off to clear.

The farmyard and corrals are full again with an array of pigs, sheep, cows and chooks, right through to our metal oil drum animals that are intricately made by AIDS affected orphans in Zimbabwe. The new range in these has increased dramatically with a mini ute and golf buggy eskies for this year plus a whole range of animals, even a surfing dog, right through to a new bird palace, not just any old birdhouse and a wine bottle holder in the shape of a pair of thongs. Our huge brass and copper weathervanes are $100 off in the sale and are ideal for mounting on houses and outbuilding due to their size. We also have cast aluminium weathervanes for those in coastal areas. Gardenarium and The Pot Shop has also brought in a great range of new glass terrariums, large decorative jars, glass candle holders, ideal for mini terrariums, incense oil jars and votive candles. And, of course, if it all get too hard then we have the good old gift vouchers in any denomination and they are valid for 12 months. So, whatever the gardener or non-gardener in your life is hoping for this Christmas be sure to make a trip to Gardenarium and The Pot Shop and Limestone Coast Roses and Advanced Trees and wander through the amazing array of goodies. As one of our customers said “its a lolly shop for adults, without the calories”. Open every day except Monday to 5.30pm, and 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays, so head to our 167, Bay Road site, Mount Gambier, or check out the websites for details, www. limestonecoastroses.com.au or www. gardenarium.com.au

LOCAL STAR DEFENDS STATE TITLE Local shooter Jeremy Kent made it a perfect weekend for the South East Branch of the South Australian Field & Game Association, taking out the South Australian Sporting Clay Championships, recently hosted by the local branch at Burrungule Park. For Kent, it was a successful defence of his own title, adding to a trophy cabinet filled with State and National silverware. More than 100 competitors from across Victoria and South Australia nominated for the event and were greeted with near perfect weather conditions over the weekend ensuring titles in all grades and categories were hotly contested. Course setter

Ken Atkin, together with Neville Kent, and their crew of workers, presented Burrungule Park grounds immaculately with two courses of clay targets with varying speed, angles and direction to test the shooters skills and concentration. Day one saw competitors shoot both courses twice to get 100 targets, prizes on the day were awarded in each grade and category on handicap scores with Sub Junior Carter Rossouw taking out the Handicap High Gun for the day. Day two had each competitor shoot each ground once for 50 targets, so all grades and categories would be decided over 150 targets, off the gun. Amazing consistency from Jeremy Kent with 143/150 over six rounds saw him retain the South Australian title ahead of the chasing pack of Victorian shooters with Sox Pilipasidis taking out AA Grade ahead of lifestyle1.net | 28

Matt Libbis and Bill Zogogiannis. A Grade needed shoot offs to determine a winner in Steven Crawford from Jo Densley and Michael Brilley also needed a shoot off with Rob Marcoionni to take third spot on the podium. B Grade also needed a shoot off for Allan Cowin to finish ahead of Dale Smith, likewise Danny Genovese needed to shoot off with Romain Devaud to claim third place. C Grade champion Brenton Denney has been improving steadily over recent times to overtake his rival Mike Gates in second with the experienced Frank Kentish rounding out the podium in third. Ron Rhook shot the second overall highest score to demonstrate his class to win Seniors by 11 targets over Australian team Seniors Chris Ball & Peter Hall. The evergreen Malcolm Whitehead took out the Veterans title by five targets from Chris Von Stanke Snr and the experienced John Torresan in third. Reigning Ladies world champion Renae Birgan had to work hard on the second day to overcome Tasha Bellinger to win the Ladies title by two targets, Deanna Van der Zalm rounded out the podium in third.

Australian Junior team member Daniel Falco took out the junior Title. The eight Sub Juniors saw Declan Wright take out the title from Shakielle VonStanke and Nicholas Bologiannis. Above - State Sporting Clays Champion - Jeremy Kent. Left - Seniors State Champion Ron Rhook in action.

In Division 1 baseball, South bounced back from last week's defeat to beat Federal six runs to four and Tigers and Central played out an eleven inning six all draw. In the early game South Indians scored a solitary run in the bottom of the first to open the scoring. Lead-off batter Ben Nash found himself at first base when a throw from shortstop by Kane McMillan was fumbled by first baseman Alex Reppin. He stole second and went to third on Dean Hamilton safehit to centrefield. Nash then scored on a passed ball from catcher Josh Wilsmore. Federal evened the score in the top of the third when Reppin singled to third base beating out the throw across the diamond and crossed the plate on Matt DeNys’ hit into the infield. The Indians added to their score in the even inning when, with two out, Hamilton drove the ball into deep rightfield for a three bagger followed by Bruce Morale’s two run homer high over the leftfield fence. Federal added one more to their box score in the fifth after Reppin got on board from a fielder’s choice play and scored on a wild pitch from Nash. The Demons tied up the game in the top of the seventh when consecutive balls were pitched to Clay Carpenter and Reppin. Carpenter scored on DeNys' single to leftfield and Reppin scored home on Alex Pearson’s infield out. The Indians returned fire in the even dig when again with two the batters, rallied. Morale doubled into leftfield followed by a single also to leftfield from Travis Lockwood which scored Morale. Lockwood scored on Jason Henke’s safehit to rightfield. Federal failed to add to their score over the final two inning leaving South Indians victorious. South hit safely nine times, picked one walk and had thirteen strikeouts and made only two errors. Federal picked up eight safehits, one walk and one hit batter, no strikeouts and made five errors. An eleven inning six run draw in the late game was the result of a very even tussle between ladder leaders Tigers and bottom placed Central. Brayden Morton scored first for Tigers in the bottom of the first dig. After picking a walk he scored on Tyler Horrigan’s fielder’s choice hit into shortstop. Tigers scored again in the bottom of the second when Ben Marcus hit a two bagger into centrefield and crossed the plate on Mitch Crosbie’s single also to centrefield. Central tied up the score in the top of the third. Brad Lynagh walked and scored when with bases loaded. Nathan Meinck also picked a base on ball. One of those on base, Kyall McClean had picked up a single into rightfield and he crossed the plate on a steal home to tie the game up at two all. In the top of the fifth with two out, McClean hit a two bagger to rightfield and Meinck followed with a single which scored McClean. Meinck scored on an error at second base in an attempt to throw runner, Dylan Chuck, out for side away. Tigers went ahead in the game again in the bottom of the inning when they found three more runs. Matt Thompson singled and Marcus drew a base on ball. They both scored on Riley Rolph’s double to leftfield. Rolph crossed the plate on a wild throw from third baseman Kobbe Chant attempting to throw batter/runner Morton out at first for side away. In the top of the sixth, Lauchie Tilley singled, as did Darren Smith. They both scored on McClean’s third hit for the night into leftfield giving the Magpies a one run lead. Tigers drew level in the top of the eighth when Alex Harkness found himself at first after an error by Central shortstop Tilley. Harkness stole second and went to third on a wild throw from catcher McClean and then crossed the plate on Horrigan’s short hit into an out at first base. Three more tight innings were played in the time allowed in a duel between pitcher and batter where not another single run was scored leaving the game a tie at six all. Central had eleven safehits, picked up seven base on ball and eight strikeouts. Tigers managed seven hits, eight walks and 12 strikeouts. The Magpies made seven errors while Tigers only made three. MITCH EARNS A P0DIUM FINISH

Warriors White 11 d Wanderers 2 Warriors started the game well scoring two runs through some lovely hitting from Jessica Hillman and Claire Chaplin. Emily Tzioutziouklaris from Wanderers tried hard to get her team off the mark with a pop fly over short stop but Warriors held firm and did not allow any runs over the plate. Warriors continued to score well with Taylor Wilsmore returning from a season off. Wilsmore also combining well with Taylor Pearson and Daena Wombwell for a brilliant double play. Janaye Donaldson from Wanderers smashed the ball over the pitcher’s head to centrefield and Jo Hart entered the game to score Wanderers first run. Sarah Moretti then quickly followed up with Wanderers’ second run to put some pressure on Warriors. Warriors ran out eventual winners by nine runs with Erin Chaplin doing a great job on the pitching plate and with the bat. Warriors Blue 15 def Concordes United 2 Warriors jumped out of the gates in the first innings scoring five, responding to Concordes scoring one in the top of the innings courtesy of Dana Jones combining with her sister Billie Jones. Warriors knuckled down in the field allowing only four more base runners. Concordes Torren Pickles deserves special mention for a great hit up the middle, along with lovely hits from Billie Jones, Brandi Miller and Emily Sutherland. Nicole Vause from Warriors continues to show great form with two more hits as did Raquel Sneath, Courtney Hanson and Leyna Bruggemann, who all picked up two hits for the match. Justine Koop led off with a double and Simone McDonald cracked a line drive back at pitcher Dana Jones. Warriors revelled in a guest appearance by multiple Adelaide A Grade competition premiership player Amy Iljcesen, as well as Warriors legend Jenna Burston. Demons 11 def Concordes White 3 Demons continued their solid start to the season with a good win over Concordes White in the last game of the day. The experience of the Demons batters shone through, with lots of hitting to the gaps all throughout the game. After a lopsided first innings, Concordes really settled into the game, and fielded very well to make Demons work hard for their runs. Sam Brown pitched very well throughout, but couldn’t stop a fantastic hitting performance from Kelly Cawthorne who hit safely every time she went up to bat. Montanna Millard pitched well and stopped Concordes from scoring until the last innings, where they plated three runs to put a bit of pressure on the Demons fielders. Linda Dodds hit safely twice and took a couple of great catches at left field for Concordes. Cody Manning fielded well and was a magnet for the ball at shortstop for Demons, and she led her side to an eventual 11-3 victory. RESULTS Demons 11 (K .Cawthorne 4; K. Morale 3; B. Morale, C.
