Welcome As I write this issue - my state of NSW, along with VIC is in lockdown but the rest of Australia is thankfully open and celebrating! 2021 is filled with ups and downs and stops and starts due to the pandemic...and so never before has it been more important to CELEBRATE and support small business! Our children won’t have another 1st birthday... 5th birthday... 10th birthday. So celebrate it - either at the time or at a delayed time - and enjoy celebrating it! I say this with my own daughter’s 9th birthday coming up in lockdown soon - I’ve postponed her party but will make sure we still celebrate.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND STYLING A POOL PARTY? Our inspiration of thinking was that we don’t get to usually do a lot of fun Summer themed parties, as a Specialist Cookier 50% of the time, we don’t do many parties in December (due to high Christmas Cookies & Gifts and Advent Calendars) and then January is our quiet month with people away on holidays, followed by the craziness of school returning. We thought with all the fun colourful USA based parties with the popping Palm Springs vibe, lots of colour and pool floats we’d get this party started and inspire everyone to celebrate this summer!
WHAT FEATURES ARE CURRENTLY ON TREND FOR KIDS PARTIES? Fun and wow factor are always high on the viral agenda. Combined with well thought out colour palettes and clean lines. Topped off with cool kids tables and food in theme. A pool party screams out for fun snack ideas and we went with hot dogs, fruit skewers, popcorn and fun chocolate bars, and that party cake just had a world of colour! Tall narrow cakes have been in trend this past year, and who doesn’t love a themed Donut Wall? I think it’s got a real Palm Springs vibe with a Californian Donut.
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR EVENTS TO A SET BUDGET? The 3 main ways are planning, organisation, and attention to detail. An excel spreadsheet is a great tool for keeping a list of all the party requirements, itemise with costs next to each one, keep a total. Gather your theme first, followed by your venue as this is key and will set the tone, then you can start the ball rolling on your invitations. Meanwhile you can take this time to carefully plan the inclusions, what style of setup, do you need props made or hired? Are kids eating on the go or will you allocate a meal time with table and chairs? For mealtime we often suggest going with a protein, a carb, a fruit/veg with a fun snack and our Savoury Snackboxes provide this perfectly as a good combination to line the stomach and they won’t want to fill up on only jelly, cakes and lollies. Cute chairs in theme will set your look off beautifully along with a personalised place setting with something custom made with your guest’s name. From here you can build on your plans with a dessert installation, balloons (they always scream party time) and then tie in your cake and food to your theme for real wow factor. So for your child’s next event, think smart, plan well, and most of all have fun and be creative with your theme. 6

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT? My little girl l, Bailiee, and I are slightly obsessed with rainbows! We love the playfulness and energy rainbows bring to every situation. There are so many different colours and tones you can play with and showcase throughout your party setup. This year we chose to stick with orange and purple pastel tones, featured from the balloon garland and florals, all the way through to the table setting and desserts even more fun, we added a couple of mini disco balls to the table setting. What kid doesn’t love a disco ball!??
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP? I was looking to create a “stylish and tasteful” but FUN set up. The 10m pastel balloon garland and unique arch backdrops generated a feeling of girliness. Still, the pops of colour brought an element of fun and playfulness. Beautiful blooms lined the party table and everything from the tablesetting down to the décor balloon garland and unique arch backdrops generated a feeling of girliness. The desserts being the highlight (for both the kiddies and adults), included actual rainbows and oh my, don’t they look amazing! Individualised rainbow decal names were an extra little touch and keepsake for the children to take home after the party. The ball pit and soft play area got a lot of attention. The play equipment fit in with the theme and gave the kids an area to burn off the sugar. Win, win!!
SHARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS Get your kid involved – let them pick the theme. After all, it is their special day. If what they choose isn’t really what you had in mind there is always a way to make it work! My son once asked for a ‘sun and hulk’ theme which seems like a very strange combination, but we made it work. You can check out the photos on our website under blogs. Create a mood board! Get scrolling on the ‘Gram and Pinterest and get your creative mind flowing! It’s the quickest and easiest way to find ideas you can curate yourself. Set a budget, pick a venue, set the event time, organise entertainment for the littles – trust me this is a must once the sugar hits! Allow enough time to plan and don’t be afraid to think outside the box. With these very important steps you are well on your way to hosting a successful party. If you aren’t into DIY outsource where you can to ease stress levels, you don’t want to spend the day running around worrying about the next thing to do. The more information you can provide your vendors involved the better the chance of your vision coming to life. 16

WHEN DID YOU GET STARTED AS A STYLIST AND WHAT LED YOU TO THIS INDUSTRY? From memory, I started styling from 2013 styling simple dessert and lolly tables for families and friends. I did this while working full time in the Property Industry and from there I discovered I had a passion for styling events and working with fresh flowers. I had zero experience in event styling and fresh flowers, but I took the risk and turned my hobby into my full time job.
YOUR SETUPS COMPLETELY TRANSFORM A SPACE. CAN YOU SHARE HOW YOU DREAM UP YOUR CONCEPTS AND WHERE YOUR INSPIRATION COME FROM? Some of my inspirations are drawn from Pinterest and from my sketch and from that new ideas and challenges will pop up every day as I plan the event. It is very important to understand my clients’ personal taste and what their desired outcomes are and once my plan is in place, I stick with it and start researching and sourcing the right items and vendors for my clients’ events.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE KEY TRENDS YOU SEE COMING UP FOR 2021/2022 CHILDREN’S EVENTS? THE KEY TRENDS FOR CHILDREN’S EVENTS The key trends for children’s events currently and still set to continue are: • Personalised and custom details, from backdrop to paperie • More different age groups.As before celebrations are more for milestones of 1 year • Party themes that adults will envy • Video Games Party
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAVE BEEN THE KEY ELEMENTS TO YOUR GROWTH AND SUCCESS IN OUR INDUSTRY? Be humble, be yourself and be different (people will recognise your work for your signature look). Always deliver and excecute your work to perfection, regardless of how big or small the event is and from there you will build a good ongoing reputation with your returning clients and future clients and be more recognised in the industry for your service, quality and creativeness.
WHAT 3 TIPS WOULD YOU SHARE TO THOSE STARTING OUT AS AN EVENT STYLIST? 1. Build your portfolio. 2. Build a strong team of vendors that you can trust to help you execute. 3. Communicate well with your clients and at every stage of the planning process, be mindful of your clients’ outcomes.
MANY STYLISTS STRUGGLE WITH PRICING FOR WHAT THEY ARE WORTH AND ATTRACTING THOSE DREAM CLIENTS. WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU SHARE IN THIS AREA? Every stylist has a different pricing structure depending on the scale of work. I don’t have any advice to share in this area - but delivering as promised with quality is what will bring you returning and new clients. The quality and uniqueness you deliver will attract those dream clients.
DO YOU HAVE A TEAM/STAFF YOU WORK WITH IN YOUR BUSINESS OR DO YOU PREFER TO RUN THE BUSINESS SOLO ALONG WITH WORK WITH YOUR TEAM OF VENDORS? I have a great team who help me execute on the day of the event and I do prefer working with my team of preferred vendors, as they understand my concept and personality to help me deliver my work to perfection.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT? I just love the Jungle/Safari/Animal trend that is going on at the moment and I really wanted to put a girly spin on it. The cheetah print is my favorite and adding pastel pink into the scheme was so beautiful. Animals are such a fun theme and it’s a theme that doesn’t have to be exclusive to first birthdays. As you can see the children had a ball!
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP? We put an emphasis on entertainment for the children making it “the best party ever” according to the littlies. We also loved incorporating pastel pink into the setup and adding a pastel spin to the Safari theme for a unique look!
SHARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS It’s all about tailoring the entertainment for the different ages! Utilize a children’s entertainer and jumping castle for the 3-8 year olds and soft play for the toddlers. Keeping children occupied and engaged during the party is the key to a happy experience so parents can have some social time of their own!

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT? We drew inspiration from Naomi’s favourite colour purple and used tones of purple and lilac to create a soft, dreamy floral garden to celebrate this special religious milestone.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP? The frosted backdrop panels with floral decals to compliment the theme and invitation. These lit up with a holy glow in the room with the sun streaming from behind them. The unique acrylic clear cart to house all of the guests favours was a gorgeous feature. The stunning on trend square style cake beautifully matched the theme and colour scheme. The little touches such as the Cross light favours, acrylic favour box labels, detailed Cross cookies and beautiful balloons and florals helped to create an elegant unique setup!

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT? Turning ten years old is such an incredible milestone! Be that for a child or a business - and as Sweet Health turns 10 this year we wanted to create a fun and exciting celebration to mark the occasion. Sweet Health’s Baking Mixes have become a popular Party Favour alternative and at home activity so we wanted to bring that fun and excitement to life in an actual party environment and our stylist Mary Ronis helped to do just that!
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP? The concept of a Mini Bakers Party with guests mixing and stirring, rolling dough and laughing was in itself a unique feature of our celebration. The idea was for our guests to channel their inner mini baker and have fun with an easy baking option. There were many unique features that added to the success of the day which included: • T he Sunday Baker café was the perfect venue to host our celebration with its adorable booths and setting . • I ndividual Baking Stations - Each child was set up with their very own little Baking Station with all the essentials they would need including Sweet Health Baking Mixes to mix and bake their own unique cookies and individually decorated cupcakes. •B aking Kit Party Favours – Each child was also gifted their own Personalised Baking Kit to take home at the end of the celebration which includes Sweet Health Baking Mixes and more! • Baker’s Hats expertly crafted from paper by Eve & Co and our custom made Aprons – to help our little guests look and feel the part • Our extraordinary looking cake and cookies! • Amazing 3D balloon cupcake by Props & Platters
SHARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS A celebration is our opportunity to relax and have fun. For me – it’s always our guest’s enjoyment that is my top priority. We always have music on in the background to liven the mood and include games or activities that allow guests to enjoy at their own free will. We try not to over complicate things though and just go with the flow - too much structure can hinder the natural cause of enjoyment. Kids just want to be themselves and have fun. 48

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT? I was inspired by the Eclectic prints of the Gucci Garden fashion collection. Inspired by nature, flowers, animals and vintage toys these prints/ graphics had a very playful childlike naivete to them that I was immensely drawn towards.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP? It was all in the details of the shoot. Each flower, each graphic was very unique to this style and was showcased beautifully throughout the setup be it the bespoke cutwork glasshouse goodie boxes or the personalized miniature Gucci handbags made out of cake for each child. We also had wearable wings for the children to draw and decorate the most unique feature of this shoot I would say was the balloon & flower canopy over the kids table. Each flower was carefully placed by hand at different height to create a virtual roof of flowers for the kids to enjoy.
SHARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS For me the most important aspect is to understand what the birthday girl/boy really wants for his big day.It is the base over which I build everything else. Take one key element and bring it to all aspects of the event like a main colour or a certain print or an image as it helps to tie everything together and then just have fun with it. I also feel communication is the key to planning any event successfully be it with RSVPs or vendors so keep the communication going for smooth operation. Lastly bring a small surprise to the party….it always brings a smile to the hosts, something you knows they will love and brings that extra personal touch to the party

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT? My son Sam has recently shown a love of building blocks and trucks, so a Construction theme seemed perfect to tick the boxes. I also enjoyed how creative we could get with the theme and my first step was getting some building blocks for the kids to play with and some trucks for décor. I have a very Scandinavian, minimalist style so I knew from the beginning I did not want a yellow and black colour scheme for this event and wanted to keep it quiet light in style with a pop of colour. I decided on mustard, grey and navy, from the navy on the hi-vis workwear and mustard from its current popularity in home décor.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP? This setup featured some amazing vendor products, all suiting the theme perfectly in their creative use or design. We loved that the first thing guests saw was our mesh arch arbour entrance from Memorable Parties. The use of white mesh throughout the event was something I was excited about, so was super keen to have H.Rose involved with her mesh plinths which we used for the desserts display. Our activity area was a fun addition with the kids getting to put on their hard hats and vests, and play some activities with our construction entertainers from Glass Slipper. I loved creating (for the first time ever) our colouring in stickers for table runners for this activity table. Our event had a lot of younger kids so wanted to have some colouring options that were easy for all the ages. I also had some lego duplo on the table for some building activities. The building activities continued in our play area with the fun soft play blocks from Fun HQ. The kids loved stacking them up as towers then knocking them down. The ballpit is of course always a massive hit and we had some games around this as well.
SHARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS: If your budget allows, start by hiring a stylist and outsource as much of the event as you are able! You have enough to worry about with rsvps, playing host and trying to enjoy the party itself. The less of the coordination, setup and even cleanup that you have to worry about the better! If doing yourself, my top tips would be to focus on one major décor aspect of your event and have a photographer booked. 70
