MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS This past year featured great things. Great wins. Great leaps forward in all corners of the athletics department. Great change. Our student-athletes have been successful on and off the field of competition, thanks in no small part to your support. Many of you have been fortunate enough to be front-and-center for some of our greatest successes. Those moments have brought you joy, and your presence has not gone unnoticed by our student-athletes. After being named Director of Athletics in July of 2018 I spoke to our supporters about two very important ideas. One being the “Total Gov Concept.” Our goal is to develop champions not only in athletics and academics, but also to set our student-athletes up for success following graduation. Upon my arrival to Austin Peay I saw a need to provide a higher level of support to our student-athletes to adequately develop the “Total Gov”. As our Govs compete and give 100% on the field, we ask that you give 100% back to our student-athletes. Your financial support through the Monocle Society allows our student-athletes the opportunity to earn a degree and compete at the highest level. Every donation makes a difference in our effort to become the premier athletics department in the OVC and provide the best student-athlete experience possible. Your gifts provide summer scholarships, student-athlete nutrition, and enhances the recruiting and travel budgets for all 16 sports. More specifically, your support through the Monocle Society will allow us to provide the “Total Gov” experience for our student-athletes. In addition to speaking to our supporters about the “Total Gov Concept,” I also spoke about charging forward like the bull does when he sees red. I encouraged our staff members, supporters, and student-athletes to “see red”. I likened us to the bull, who is resilient, aggressive, and tough. The bull sees red and charges forward with singular focus. Our singular focus is to help provide our student-athletes with the tools they need for success. By “seeing red” and charging forward relentlessly, we can achieve our common goal of winning conference championships and competing on a national stage while uplifting the community by providing productive and well prepared graduates and citizens.

We highly encourage you to take the time to review the Monocle Society information presented in this brochure. We are committed to providing all of our student-athletes, as well as our supporters, with the best possible experience. Your gifts allow us to continue to build on the successful foundation Austin Peay Athletics has developed while also continuing to pursue a higher level of athletic and academic excellence. The newlyestablished Monocle Society is absolutely critical in our quest to be one of the top athletics departments in the country.

MONOCLE SOCIETY MISSION The Monocle Society was created in 2019 to serve as the official annual fundraising arm for Austin Peay State University Athletics. Monocle, which is a single eyeglass and prominent in the Governor logo, resonates with our singular purpose – to secure financial resources in an effort to provide the best athletic and academic experience for our student-athletes. While the landscape of intercollegiate athletics is ever changing and costs continue to rise, our main focus on an annual basis will be to enhance the experience for all 350 student-athletes. Supporters of the Monocle Society can take pride knowing their support will have a direct impact on student-athletes across all of our 16 NCAA Division I teams. Our teams require championship resources to win conference championships as we strive to be the premier intercollegiate athletics program in the Ohio Valley Conference annually.

SPORT SPECIFIC FUNDS OF EXCELLENCE Giving to a sport specific Fund of Excellence is an outstanding way to directly contribute to the sport team of your choice. Fund of Excellence gifts help to support vital needs such as enhancing teams’ regular and post season travel, state-of-theart equipment, nutrition, and recovery programs. Each year, coaches will identify special projects that are typically outside of their annual operating budget. Gifts start at $5,000 a year for 5 years or a major gift of $25,000 and above. Recent gifts went to complete projects such as locker room renovations, practice facility upgrades, special game uniforms, and various sport specific equipment items.

CAPITAL PROJECTS There is a facilities arms race in college athletics, and Austin Peay must continue to invest in capital projects to compete with our rival peers year in and year out for elite studentathletes. To accomplish this, we must modernize our current athletic facilities and make a commitment to enhancing our competition venues. Philanthropic gifts above and beyond Monocle Society support make it possible to provide a great experience for both student-athletes and supporters of Austin Peay Athletics. Making a significant gift to a capital project can instantly transform our future and will impact the Governor Athletics experience. For more information and how to contribute, please call Jordan Harmon, the Director of Athletic Development, at 931-221-6357.
