DALSNUTEN ABOUT THE HIKE The view from Dalsnuten (323 m) leaves even the most discerning of mountain wanderer simply breathless. A marvellous panorama looks out over Sandnes, the fjord realm of Ryfylke, the sweeping expanse of Jæren and the North Sea beyond. Our walk starts from the parking area at Gramstad. The first part follows a gravelled farm road past Gramstadtjørn and Revhodlstjødna ponds, and some forest. Drystone fences evidence early settlement and farming activities. The final climb up to the summit of Dalsnuten can be somewhat demanding, but set your eyes on the newly built cairn, a landmark from far and wide, and press on. At the peak you will be rewarded by a spectacular view while enjoying your packed lunch. We continue the hike eastwards up to Fjogstadnuten (295 m). Then on to Skaret, past the Fjogstad farms, following the road back to the parking area. Please remember it is essential to have suitable hiking footwear!

MÅNAFOSSEN WATERFALL ABOUT THE HIKE The trip starts at Eikeskog where there is a path and some stair climbing on the first part of the trip. But with a little chain to stay in on the steepest mountains, it goes relatively smoothly. Along the way, there are several adapted viewpoints to the waterfall. Månafossen is ranked No. 9 in Norway, and is considered one of the county's largest tourist attractions. However, the trip should not end here. Another little climb, and before the next half hour has passed, the landscape opens up: You suddenly stand on Mån, the old restored mountain farm. Until 1915 people lived here, at the gateway to Fidjadalen. Do you have the fishing rod with you, there are good opportunities to get a mountain trout on the hook.

HELLERSHEIA - GEOTUR ABOUT THE HIKE In Magma UNESCO Geopark is the rock the same as you find on the moon's surface - anorthosite and was formed for approx. 1,000 million years ago. The spectacular anorthosite landscape almost takes your breath away at the top and shows visible traces of the ice age. The landscape on the plateau is dominated by mighty mountains, small ponds and large boulders that are scattered throughout the area. These are boulders that got stuck in the glacier that covered the place and were left behind when the ice melted. You can also find several circular holes on the plateau. These are potholes that were formed by smaller rocks that were set in motion by running water and that eroded into the bedrock during the last ice age 10,000-20,000 years ago. Along the path on Hellersheia you will notice a series of almost horizontal scratches on the mountains. On the way down Hellersdalen, you partly go through and along a mighty clock that slipped out here right after the ice retreated. Option: You can also take a shorter walk from the lookout point and up the plateau to go the same way down again.

TROLLPIKKEN

ABOUT THE HIKE

For å komme utpå selve Trollpikken kreves litt enkel klyving, vær forsiktig.

EIGERØY FYR ABOUT THE HIKE Built in 1853–54, one of Europe's strongest and Norway's first cast iron lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in modules at Bærums Verk and transported to Eigerøy and installed there. The lighthouse is 32.9 m high and there are 134 steps to the lantern. Since this is Norway's first cast iron lighthouse and it was uncertain whether it was heavy enough to withstand weather and wind, so the lighthouse was lined on the inside with 70,000 bricks. In 1998, the lighthouse was protected under the Cultural Heritage Act. The protection includes buildings, roads and an area around the lighthouse. There are 7 geostops along the trail where one can learn more about the rock type anorthosite. The old lighthouse keeper's house has been restored. Eigerøy bird station was established at Eigerøy lighthouse in 1991. The initiative was taken by the Norwegian Ornithological Society, Dalane local team, which today disposes of the lighthouse's hobby house for the purpose. The station registers everything that is seen by birds on the entire Midtbrødøya all year round.

ABOUT THE HIKE

JIBBEHEIA

The ascent starts through spruce forest past the northern end of Heggdalstjørna (0.5 km), the path continues further up and out of the forest, over a hill and down into a marsh area (1.4 km) before the last ascent up to the top (1.9 km ). Great views towards Hauge, Rekefjord and inland in Dalane. Continue northwest, and down towards Opplev Dalane trail (2.3 km), turn right and follow this back to Rekedal. At the top of Jibbeheia it is possible to experience the real size of the Helleren anorthosite. This massive area of anorthosite extends to the coast to the south, towards Rekefjord in the west, and continues 19 kilometers to the north from Jibbeheia's peak. The geology of the area has similarities to the geology of the moon. The rock is coarse-grained, massive anorthosite and the whole trip is in this anorthosite field. Anorthosite is the dominant rock in Magma Geopark. In the Jibbeheia area there are many veins of quartz-bearing crystallized stone, granite. Unlike on the moon, the landscape in Jibbeheia also has many blocks of "alien" rocks that were left behind when the ice retreated during the last ice age. These are called moving blocks.

STORAFJELLET ABOUT THE HIKE The panoramic view from Storafjellet and the comfort from the new gapahuken make the trip to Storafjellet spectacular. Even if the trip starts with a kindergarten, there is no 'dear mother', because the height curves on the map are getting denser and denser. One part of the road the path splits and you can choose to go up via the "main path" or the "weekend path". The weekend trail is steeper than the main trail. You quickly fall in love with the constantly steep climb when you see the view that quickly forms as you go up. At the top you can breathe a sigh of relief and take a well-deserved break in the new gapahuken erected in 2020 with a fantastic panoramic view of Bjerkreim. Gapahuken is equipped with benches and tables, binoculars and a wood stove, and even a weather and charging station if needed. Although the ascent to the hike to the gapahuken on Storafjellet is steep, the length of the hike is short and therefore the degree of difficulty is moderate.
