WELCOME TO SANDBACH TRANSPORT FESTIVAL‌ This year we are happy to welcome back SpareParts with their arts festival who will be parading down the streets of Sandbach on Sunday afternoon with their super scrap vehicles.

Sandbach Transport Festival is delighted to return for another year and will be packed with classic cars on the Saturday and heritage, HGVs and a mixture of other vehicles on the Sunday. Look out on Sunday for the St Luke’s charity bikers run through the town.

Kicking off on Saturday we will be visited by Rex the T-Rex who will be roaming the common. On both days we will have a steam train offering free rides in the park plus lots more exhibitions and arts activities making it a complete family fun weekend.

STUNNING SPITFIRE FLIES INTO SANDBACH To celebrate the Centenary of the end of the First World War, we have an iconic full-scale replica World War 2 Spitfire being displayed at the Sandbach Transport Festival. The Spitfire is believed to have been purposely built for an indoor museum in the late 1970s and has been sold a few times since then. It represents a Mark 9 version of the aircraft that was introduced from July 1942 onwards as a stopgap measure to counter the threat from the Luftwaffe’s Focke-Wulf FW 190A. To save time and resources, the early versions were built onto Mark 5 fuselages (with prominent rivets) and fitted with the Merlin 61 engine.

Although the Sandbach Transport Festival is usually associated with road vehicles, there is a link to the Town. ERF purchased a Spitfire and presented it to the Royal Air Force, the cost of a Spitfire at the time was £5,000. To raise that amount of money ERF decided to hold a raffle with the first prize being a brand-new ERF truck, which at the time was a scarce commodity. Within 2 to 3 weeks the £5,000 target was achieved, and a cheque was sent to Lieutenant Colonel Moore-Brabazon, who was Minister of Aircraft Production. The aircraft was called ‘Sun Works’ after the ERF manufacturing plant and went into squadron service with a Canadian unit of the RAF in 1941.

ALL ABOARD FOR STEAM IN THE PARK As usual we have a host of activities taking place in the park and this year we’re thrilled to be able to add steam train rides to what is on offer. As you’re making your way to the SpareParts Village on Sunday you can jump aboard and enjoy the magic of steam as you go. Not only that but we have a selection of delicious culinary delights that will keep hungry tums full throughout the weekend. Don’t forget to visit the park over the weekend!

BIKERS DIG DEEP FOR ST LUKE’S

A major attraction at the Festival is the arrival of hundreds of riders taking part in the St Luke’s Hospice Charity Ride. The riders are will roar into town at about 1.15 on Sunday behind St Luke’s own London bus. The ride is organised by South Cheshire Motorcycle Club.

DINOSAUR INVASION

Sandbach is set to be overrun by Jurassic jeopardy throughout Saturday as Rex, the T-Rex stalks the streets. Get up close of personal with one of the giants of the dinosaur world during your visit and hear him roar. Don’t miss out on having your picture taken inside a giant dinosaur egg too.

MAKE A SPLASH BY CARLOS CORTES

THEATRE PAS-DE-DEUX BY ULIK ROBOTIK

Talking about “Industry 4.0” everybody thinks of a robot arm, working in a deserted factory building. It can be different: The “UliK Robotik Theater” shows how a robot interferes with a rendezvous and changes into a very human-like partner in the game with the two protagonists. The poetic transfigured message: Only at first did the robot arm represent a threat. Soon, its advantages will exceed the disadvantages. TIMES: SUNDAY 10.30AM AND 1.45PM

Make a Splash is a performancepainting-installation that is created by all the people that take part in this “group action painting”. There will be music, and dance, and a joyful activity that invites people to join in and splash some paint onto our car! After some dynamic “painting moves” the whole vehicle will be covered in bright and colorful splashes of paint... Move aside Jackson Pollock! Our vehicle will become a “smashing” canvas that has been created by tens of participants working together... TIMES: THROUGHOUT SUNDAY SPECIAL HAPPENINGS AT 11.30AM, 12.45PM AND 2PM
