Fire-Station Task Force Preps for First Meeting
Panel Will Have Until Spring to Come Up with Proposal on the Future of Hall’s Hill Facility SCOTT McCAFFREY Staff Writer
The County Board-appointed task force seeking to forge consensus on the future of Fire Station #8 holds its first meeting Jan. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Langston-Brown Community Center.
The meeting, to be followed by a tour of the nearby station, will kick off a five-month process that will culminate in a recommendation on whether to keep the station where it is; keep it and purchase adjacent land for an expansion; move it to the location sought by the fire department; or come up with another option.
The task force was established in the fall of 2015 after several contentious community meetings revealed deep splits about the station’s future and the county government’s inability to contain the situation. Revealing the degree of controversy involved, it took County Board members several months longer than they had anticipated to
tap members of the task force. Appointments were made in December, with former School Board member Noah Simon tapped to lead the panel. In addition to Simon, appointees to the task force include Alisa Cowen, Michael HoContinued on Page 24
