Welcome to Check It Out! Family Literacy Day Over 500 people joined Lambton County Library for a day of fun at Sarnia Library on January 27 for our Family Literacy Day Festival. The library was full of activities from face painting and gaming to a concert (see the cover photo) and a chance to hang out with Sarnia Sting’s Buzz and Honey. Family Literacy Day is celebrated every year to create awareness of the significance of reading and participating in literacy-related activities as a family and community. When families engage in literacyrelated activities together, the literacy skills of the entire family are strengthened, which encourages lifelong learning and sets kids up for success. Clearwater Library Clearwater Library will be ready to receive its first visitors in the coming weeks following months of renovation work at the Clearwater Arena to provide a space for the delivery of modern library services. Clearwater Library reflects the collaborative efforts of the City of Sarnia (as building owner) and Lambton County Library (as service provider) to deliver library services to Lambton’s residents. The new library, located on the second floor of the Arena, offers a captivating 180-degree view of the arena’s east ice pad and a dedicated programming room which will also serve as a private meeting space available for booking by the public. An opening date, and details about grand opening celebrations will be announced following the completion of the renovation project. Be sure to follow #LCLibrary and City of Sarnia on social media for the latest updates.

Theme: Lambton Through the Lens

Submissions

Create photos that highlight the uniqueness of Lambton County through three categories: Local Icons, Abstract, and Romance of Ruins.

The 2024 Teen Photo Contest is open to Lambton County teens age 13-18. Photos can be submitted from Wednesday, April 3 to Sunday, July 7. Entrants can submit up to five photographs through the online submission form at lclibrary.ca/TeenPhotoContest

Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery Exhibit A jury of industry professionals will select photographs to be featured in an exhibit at Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery. The photographs will be on display from Friday, August 2 to Saturday, October 12. Teens whose submissions are selected will be invited to an exclusive Artist Preview and Award Ceremony at JNAAG before the exhibit opens.

Awards One winning photograph from each category, plus one overall grand prize winner will be announced on Friday, July 19. The four winners will receive their photos professionally matted and framed following the closing of the exhibit at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery. The grand prize winner will receive their choice of a $100 Amazon gift card, a $100 Carmen’s Foto Source gift card or a virtual one-hour one-on-one session with award-winning photographer, Peter Power.

Rebound Rocks mentors youth aged 13 to 24 and teaches them performance skills, live sound production, song writing and event management.

The judges will be tasting the submissions on Saturday, March 16th, and prizes will be awarded that same day.
