LoveBird’s Letter Break- an interruption of continuity or uniformity.

I have come to interrupt everything about you that no longer serves you. Let this letter serve as your life’s alarm. Let the words on this page ring in your ears the next time you feel the desire to return to the norm.

WAKE UP and realize a new you needs to come forth. Don’t let another day go by that you adhere to your old routine. It’s time to switch it up and do something new. Interrupt your life’s pattern, that has failed to render you new results. I know I may be coming on strong, but I must deliver this with a roar!

It is time to break up with old thoughts and perspectives. It’s time to break out of old routines, habits, and practices. It’s time to break out into a new way of living and being. Your shift is long overdue, so it is imperative you act with urgency to cause a breaking in your life. You have the power to break it. I had my day of reckoning and I believe that it’s your turn!

my old ways. I told myself some hard truths I needed to hear. I had to challenge my world view.

I had to question my motivation and intentions. It was so uncomfortable, yet so freeing to openly express what I already knew to be true.

I gave myself 2 months to start working for myself. I chose accountability partners that would push me and challenge me when I couldn’t motivate myself. I set up a new life system that would support the new me. Basically, I broke up with myself so I can find the chick I was called to be from the beginning.

With that being said, I double dare you to cause something to BREAK, so you discover something new that’s awaiting you.

Philippians 3:13 NLT “ No, dear brother and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,”

For me I had to get to a place where I had no choice but to break out of a dead-end job and launch my writing career. I wrestled with this decision for years. I even tried to write for someone else’s vision, in a failed effort to find mine.

Lovebird’s September Book Review Last month’s featured book Freedom

of Simplicity by Richard J. Foster is a life changing read. Just when I thought I had a grasp on living a simple, humble, and well balanced life; this book challenged me to do more.

It led me on a path of self-discovery to uncover ways of thinking that did not serve my purpose of creating a peaceful atmosphere through simplicity.

Usually, we live out simplicity by doing the basics like decluttering, organizing, and planning. This book will challenge you to tackle indecision, giving, and adopting your role in affecting change from a world view perspective. You will begin to adapt the idea that, “my life of simplicity not only helps my family, but the world at large.”

This book has helped me to broaden my horizons when it comes to doing good for the greater good, that oftentimes go unnoticed.

Another eye-opening principle discussed is “holy obedience.” It simplifies the path in which we take as believers.

By studying this, I accepted that I should work more on considering God before self. We all know this in theory, yet if we be honest, it is not our first response. We, tend to look after self-interest before God’s will, his way, and his word.

Instead of having a robotic like response to doing his will, holy obedience helps us to simplify our lives by adopting a new way of thinking that makes it easy for us to follow God, and not just invite him on our journey.

In closing, I wish to leave you with this quote from the book, “There are two ways to get enough, one is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.”

Breakout Interview with Girl Boss Priscella May CEO & Founder of The Cover’d Brand Priscella May is a passionate Entrepreneur and Branding Specialist. She has singlehandedly shaped her brand into an ever-growing enterprise. May is the boss of three interconnected businesses. Cover’d Clothing & Customs, Eye Got You Cover’d, and Cover’d Academy are sister companies that make up said enterprise. Cover’d Clothing & Customs is a custom T-shirt brand, in which Priscella launched her own clothing line in conjunction with custom orders. She started this company June of 2018 and within three years has expanded into creating graphics and flyers for business and events alike.

Eye Got you Cover’d is a mink lash strip business that aims to enhance the beauty of girl bosses. November 19, 2019 Priscella set out on a mission to build fellow women self esteem and confidence by offering her mink lashes, which are named to empower, encourage and uplift her clients.

Recently, Cover’d Academy was established to counsel others on how to form their own t-shirt business. June 20, 2021 Cover’d Academy was birthed out of Priscella’s own process of learning the business with no assistance from other industry leads. She stated, “I had to teach myself how to start my business and it was frustrating... If I could teach myself I thought it would be great to teach others.”

The Academy offers 1 on 1 group sessions on business 101, industry specifics, design strategies, marketing amongst other things. Payment plans are available for the courses and once you complete your courses you will be a life member of the Cover’d academy community!

Priscella May knew from the tender age of 12, that she was purposed to create. She got her start as an entrepreneur for doing hair. When asked when did she know she was not meant to punch a clock she passionately replied, “I feel like it’s in my DNA! You have to be created to be a boss, a leader, a solutionist.” She has always had a knack for creating a solution to other people’s problems or needs.

Unlike some business owners, Priscella stated that her transition into entrepreneurship was easy, because God allowed her to speak it into existence. She recalled walking past t-shirt businesses in the mall and saying that she was going to do that one day, and because of her belief in what she spoke God allowed it to manifest. May advises that one must “continually change” in order to break out of old cycles. She warns if you get stuck in stagnation, you will never be able to cultivate your creativity.

She revealed that her creative juices stopped flowing while she invested so much time into her 9-5. Once she transitioned into her purpose of being a business owner her creativity flourished and she noticed the quality of what she created shifted mightily.

“If we can invest in someone else’d dream, if we can invest in Louis (Vuitton), Gucci and Fendi, if we can invest in McDonalds, Popeyes and Chik-Fil-A we can invest in ourselves,” Priscella noted. She pointed out we as creatives oftentimes are afraid to invest because of the failures we saw in previous generations.

“Our mothers tried and failed, and then planted a seed of defeat. Their advice to get a good job with benefits, insurance, and retirement limited the scope of opportunity. Push past what happened to them...take that risk. You have to know that what you are producing is good for the people.”

Through her journey Girl boss Priscella May has learned that she is more than a job. She advises that if you must work, “Give the job what it needs, and give yourself more.That is the best strategy to obtaining wealth in my eyes.”

Inspiration

Merriam-Webster told me that this symbol is a caesura. Caesura means usually rhetorical break in the flow of sound in the middle of a line of verse.

Merriam also said in its 3rd definition that it’s simply a break or interruption. Poets and speakers can use this in their prose. Orchestras and bands can also use it in their music.

As words or notes are flowing the way the artist initially intended, the caesura comes along and causes a necessary or natural break in the flow for a specified period of time. Let’s explore this common example.

“To be or not to be // that is the question.”-William Shakespeare The words were in a flow, the caesura caused a natural pause so that the speaker could create emphasis with the rest of the statement and take a needed break.

What has the caesura taught me?

1 Just because you break, doesn’t mean you have to stop.

2 Breaks aren’t abnormal, yet a natural part of life.

3 No breaks, no rest 4 Progression requires silence.

5 Breaks create emphasis.

Self - Discovery Diamond Hutton- Contributing Writer I discovered that I was emotionally unstable by having a conversation with my mother.

The conversation was extremely needed but it made me aware of my emotions and how I handle them. I began to analyze my life considering how I controlled my emotions. I started to pity myself because this was another thing I didn’t like about myself.

I found myself surrendering a trait that I thought couldn’t be fixed in God’s presence. After the discovery, I realized that I can’t play the victim card on my emotions and it made me accountable for how I act or react.

I was in a position where I wanted to cry because I felt disappointment within myself but I held in my emotions and kept pushing with my day.

This moment is significant to me because I put internal feelings aside for me to do the task and God really cares about emotional wellbeing.

My meaning of breakthrough is being aware of internal weaknesses and daily trying to overcome them with God’s grace and instructions.

This journey of self-discovery is growing me into a woman of deity.

Tote Bag

I feel like the inside of a pretty tote bag.

On the outside I'm all together. looking fresh, cool and clean But I can only let one, maybe two people in to take a peek. Cuz I’m carrying old raggedy receipts and random gum wrappers and five half written journals...

I don’t how or why these cookies crumbs got here. I guess they’re just a representation of how my little messes multiply.

Women always laugh about the junk in their purses, but if we all were brave enough to admit that those little grins are shields, joyously protecting our shame.

Shame of our human limitations.

Shame of needing help.

Shame of being too proud to accept support.

Shame of not being woman enough to get it all done.

I feel like the last load of laundry.

Like, no one ever truly gets to wash, dry and fold the last load.

It just sits on the couch, or in a hamper, clean but unpresentable. Onlookers usually assume it’s dirty, less worthy.

Only people who know that load intimately knows its true value. That load is the reason why "don’t judge a book by its cover" was ever uttered. I mean, it can be used, but who really wants to dig through the compost for that one grey undershirt? It's too difficult of a search.

So most times a replacement is preferred. I’ll just go get the black one, nicely folded in the drawer upstairs.

Sure it’s a longer journey, but hey the process is easier. Most would rather take a detour than take a chance on me. Even though We both know I have what they need.

I feel like the spaghetti sauce skillet in the kitchen.

That skillet held some good things in it. I mean, one minute you're catering to me, at least that’s what it seemed. You’re constantly checking on me, gently holding my hand-le and smiling uncontrollably.

You’re adding lovely things to me and I’m turning what give me into GOLD. In spite of you burning me, putting me in an increasingly hot situations, I give you savory fragrances.

Ingredients blend.

Spices marry and you’re happy to see what I've produced.

And at that moment you empty me over into some other pot. A pot that didn't do the work that I did. They get to enjoy my gift to you. I gave my LOVE, I mean my sauce to YOU not them.

And then, when I thought it couldn’t get worse you discard me, leaving me with only remnants of my goodness. And when someone new passes all they see is a bloody mess.

But when you ask me, am I ok? I say... I’m fine.

Lovebird’s Health Corner The “Tummy Tea” Diet Fad, has become a one size fits all solution for major weight loss goals. Many of these products are marketed toward women and have been rumored to be as or more effective than surgery in some cases.

After some research it was revealed that some brands are marketed as diet plans, when actuality they are glorified laxatives. When searching for a quality product always read reviews, ask questions, and read and research ingredients.

These laxatives will give you a sense of accomplishment by helping you drop water weight, which usually is the easiest way to start any weight loss journey. Advertisements will convince you that the tea will aide you in keeping off a sustained amount of weight for extended periods of time, but fail to mention that sustaining weight loss is more of a lifestyle change, than a quick fix.

While some of these tummy teas do have proven benefits regarding short-term weight loss goals, one must research other more realistic ways to maintain progress. These teas can be used in conjunction with a healthier food consumption plan and exercise routine. Nothing is more effective in maintaining weight loss than being more disciplined in what you eat, how much you eat, and when you eat; in addition to getting your body moving and targeting your problem areas with exercise.

If you’re trying to fit into a dress that is a little snug, try it out. If you are looking to see long-term results, consider other regimens.

BREAKING BAD EATING HABITS In American society, dieting has become big business. There are countless health and fitness guru’s competing for your allegiance. Oftentimes, they are motivated by the idea, that they hold the key to your health and wellness in their hands.

As I take my own journey for a better body inside and out, I had to silence ‘the experts’ and discover what worked for me. I hope it will help you!

1.DRINK MORE WATER. Water purifies, cleanses, and refreshes. Our bodies are 60% water. So, see yourself as a pond. Recognize the value of cleaning your pond. The best way to clean it, is to purify the water within.

2.CUT THE PORK. Now this tip is very polarizing, this I know. However, when you think of pork you never think of anything healthy, because it holds no nutritional value. Simply put, it’s a waste.

3.IMPLEMENT PORTION CONTROL. I remind myself of this often; “I will never need a second helping.” Feeling full is not the goal. Giving my body fuel is the goal. After all, food is a tool, and I should never be a slave to my appetite.

4.AMP UP THE FRUITS AND VEGGIES. We all know this to be essential to our health. It’s sometimes hard to execute, because we eat the same fruits and vegetables and tend to get bored. Explore new and fresh produce that you haven’t tried before. Get creative in the colors you add to your plate.
