Hello Welcome to our 25th anniversary season.

An opportunity to celebrate who we are, where we have come from, and everyone who has helped us to get here. Wind back the clocks to another incredible anniversary, and exactly two hundred years ago a Methodist chapel is erected in the heart of Huddersfield to serve the community. After more than a century the building falls in to disuse, and after a couple of brief (separate) stints as a nightclub and squash court, the Lawrence Batley Theatre is created. Over the last 25 years we have had some of the country’s most amazing, entertaining and ambitious companies coming to the theatre, but we have never forgotten where we come from...

A theatre created by the community in a building created for the community.

From our epic community production in September to return visits from some of our favourite local amateur companies, we are as committed as ever to that simple idea as we look ahead to the next 25 years. But we want to explore new avenues as well. As you’ll see we’ve got some really high-profile plays and family shows coming to the theatre over the next few months, and alongside our traditional family panto, we’re also incredibly excited to be making more work in Huddersfield, for Huddersfield.

We look forward to seeing you at the theatre soon, and thank you so much for deciding to spend your time with us.

Stories have shaped the world around us for as long as we’ve been able to share them. Over the next few years we’re going to be working with some absolutely incredible people to look at how and why we tell stories for today. They’re going to be called ‘Storytellers’, and they’ll be creating completely new stories for you, on stage, right here in Huddersfield.
