Welcome to the second edition of The Bridal Affair! With real-life stories and inspirational shoots, there is something for every bride to create her perfect affair. Our first issue launched last year, and was very well received by all. What attracted couples and wedding professionals to the magazine, was the celebration of the wedding journey from the moment you say ‘yes’…to the moment you say ‘I do’. We want to continue to push the creative boundaries with inspiration so you can tell your story how you want to. Choosing the colour palette is one of those early wedding-planning decisions that really sets the tone for your story. With so many colours to choose from, creating a cohesive palette can be totally overwhelming; so we love the idea of simplifying at least that aspect of the process. Keeping that in mind, monochromatic colour palettes inspired this edition of The Bridal Affair. The dominant colour in each concept shoot translates from detail to detail creating a cohesive setting for the bride to shine in her white gown. With all eyes being on the bride, her look is the most awaited. Whether you’re a traditional bride or looking for something a little sexier, you’re sure to find something that fits your style and inspires your look with all the fashion featured. The groom isn’t just an accessory anymore; guys are getting more creative and drawing some attention to themselves. With the unique suits and accessories showcased, we hope to inspire the groom to express himself through his look.

This bride is a true representation of what The Bridal Affair stands for. With the release of this edition, we are excited to officially launch our website – www. thebridalaffair.ca – we hope that all the avenues of The Bridal Affair inspires you, so that your personal style, essence and beauty shines through to tell your story. A destination known as an iconic white washed paradise filled with glamourous people, an endless nightlife and mythically inspired beaches – welcome to Mykonos, Greece. We all know that in the past bachelor/bachelorette parties were meant to be one last hurrah. Well how times have changed, they are now for the wedding party and their besties to rekindle and reenergize before the big day and what better place than Mykonos, Greece. Mykonos has been known for Super Paradise and Nammos Beach which host nonstop parties, filled with

open minded characters trying to push the limits of their existence to find utopia, which coincides with the islands history of being made by Hercules. There is a gem of a hotel located at the top of the town, with all its glamour and breathtaking views the Kyma Hotel which is part of the luxurious Myconian Collection is the perfect venue for your bachelor/bachelorette getaway.

bachelor pa rty Gentleman I would highly recommend visiting Kalafatis watersports located on the west part of the island. They offer jet skis, water skiing, scuba diving and even group tubing. For those of you looking to stand out from the crowd rent a yacht and make your way over to Scorpios Beach Lounge with its hedonistic approach to life, it won’t take long to have a number of guests wanting to attend your party. Take a break from the traditional bachelor party festivities and visit the sacred island of Delos, which is also the birth place of Apollo. It is an interesting day trip you can take with your boys, where you can ask the Oracles to let you see into your psyche and give you a glimpse of what is to come; the esoteric gases or a self-fulllfiling prophecy.

bachelor ette pa rty Ladies, Mykonos offers such a spectacular array of shopping such as Louis Vuitton, and for those Canadian lovers Dsquared and local bohemian style shops that offer one-of-a-kind pieces like Scandali, Enny Di Monaco and even Mystique Boutique. Also, don’t forget to check out some amazing custom jewellery shops that will make you the envy of all of your friends back home. Forget the Hamptons, you definitely want to be seen at Jackie O’s, located at Super Paradise beach, make sure you have at least a couple changes of your skimpiest bikinis as you will have crowds of people vying for your attention, it has become so popular that they are opening a second location in town this spring. If you’re looking for a lively place to party, Void nightclub has a vast selection of hip hop artists and worldly DJ’s to get even the hermit onto the dance floor. Whereas the Scandinavian Bar is tried and tested so if you are looking to make friends fast this should definitely be at the top of your list. After a night out, find your inner goddess at the spa which has a vast array of treatments to relax and rejuvenate, and the yoga instructor will enhance your mind, body and soul, while chef Panagiotis Tsoukatos will tantalize your taste buds with epicurean delights. If you are on a strict regimen during the day no need to fear, you can push yourself at the state of the art gym which will ensure you to wear that strappy dress with confidence.

The theme of Valentina’s bridal shower was dedicated to her mother, who was fighting endometrial (uterine) cancer, often the term ‘peach’ comes up for support groups, and as a result became the theme for the shower. The venue had a rustic feel and was converted into a peach orchard. The wooden furniture added a rustic look and every table had wooden crates of flowers and real peaches with lots of greenery. The sweet table looked all peachy with lots of peach flavoured treats as well.

Laura’s love for florals inspired her to have an abundance of flowers incorporated into her shower; and adding bigger than life balloons and a champagne bar created that extra bit of glam. Everyone raved about the setup of desserts – from the simple lemon cakes to the fancy chocolate eclairs – even the fussiest guests enjoyed their desserts. The W Event Boutique was the perfect backdrop to compliment the look she was going for and an added bonus was the amazing food, views and service.

Alexandra’s elegant bridal shower was inspired by Coco Chanel and french pink colour details. Crystal perfume mixology and a perfect blend of french confections sums up her pretty event. The extravagant sweet table beautifully carries the Coco Chanel theme to the next level with its array of decadent desserts flauting the iconic logo. This shower embodies elegance, creativity and style perfect for every girls bridal shower.

red carpet ready

marry in berry

Lusciously full Hollywood waves is a show-stopping hairstyle for any bride that wants the femininity of a down-style without sacrificing glamour. Paired with monochromatic makeup and subtle glowing natural skin gives this bridal look a very red-carpet vibe.

Pulling the hair back into a flowy half-updo is the perfect way to show off your bone structure and sultry eye makeup. Playing up colour in warm berry tones in the eyes and lips is the perfect choice for winter brides to bring extra life to the look.

smoke and lace

gilded vintage

Inspired by the elegance and grace of the quintessential 1950’s starlet, this look pays homage to screen queen Sophia Loren. Elongated, bold and smoked out eyeliner, has the eyes at center stage with the gold in the inner corner bringing a modern day twist. The hair is sleek and tied in a beautiful knot to further the focus on the face.

A modern day version of the Hollywood starlet, this look screems NOW! The hair is perfectly sculpted into vintage waves but that slicked back style is what hair dreams are made of. The eyes are glimmering with gold and full dramatic lashes that will no doubt leave a lasting impression on all who lay eyes on her.

modern muse

classic with a twist

A dramatic wing and bold lashes really bring the focus to and accentuate the eyes for a daring bride. Which is softened by a subtle shimmer on the lips and face for an accentuating golden glow. This simultaneously flirty yet fierce look is pulled together by a tousled twists updo and carefree wisps that frame the face.

This voluminous ponytail is an elegant yet modern hairstyle that affords the freedom of movement for a carefree look. It adds playfulness to any traditional gown. The sultry smokey eye adds drama to the look and is balanced by a warm nude lip. Paired with the copper eyeliner which creates a subtle yet effective technique to make the eyes pop.

The luxurious lavender colour takes centre stage with complimentary details in ivory and greens to emphasize the royalty and ambition it exudes. The stationery beautifully carries lavendar while adding a touch of romance – from the simplicity of the envelope to the fine detailed inner lining. While the cake is the other standalone element to this shoot; the four-tiered cake adds a touch of illusion with meandering detail.

64

65

66

The tablesetting uses a neutral palette keeping the detail specifically in the design and height of the tablescape. Royal in the approach. Stunning in the result. The bride is every bit as lovely as her surrounding. She wore a stunning Whyte Couture gown with a plunging lace detail neckline that accents her figure to perfection.

The cherry blossom is certainly the focal point within this design concept with the addition of textured blooms such as the english garden rose, ranunculus and cabbage roses for added softness, intermingled in varying hues of blush and pale pink tones designed in glass vases. Accents of gold are used as the metallic within the design for that little bit of luxurious sparkle.

71

The beautiful stationery is a lucite holder with a duplex invitation printed with rose gold foil and surrounded with light cherry blossom blooms.

72

73

Cherry blossoms represent love and ethereal beauty. This shoot was inspired by Kim Kardashian’s recent KKW Beauty Campaign that featured accents of cherry blossoms, acrylic accents and a tone-on-tone blush palette. Embracing the softness and femininity through the use of textures and varying hues of blush tones.

The tablescape which is showcased on a gold mirrored lunar table contains lavish floral centerpieces accented with gold cutlery, wooden laser-cut names and olive-branch inspired charger plates. Surrounded by candlelights and authentic olive oil favours, the scene eludes a feeling of natural opulence and romance. Drawing inspiration from Tuscany’s famous lemon trees, the backdrop behind the tablescape contains a large banyan tree with edible hanging lemon meringues to create a beautiful and soft focal point.

79

From the cobblestone floors and intricate patterns to the golden hues and olive branches, this shoot draws inspiration from the natural beauty of Tuscany. The architecture of the venue – Hacienda Sarria – provides a perfectly curated backdrop for the ceremony that eludes an effortless elegance with gold mirrored valentina chairs and hanging floral hoops. The pretty and romantic stationery, with lush green olive branches and soft golds printed on watercolour paper, adds to the soft Tuscan vibe throughout. The unique hanging floral hoop seating chart creates an airy look and adds an elegant and creative flair to the day. A unique concept within this shoot is the first-ever Italian inspired cannoli wall, which takes the traditional donut wall and adds a Tuscan flair. The ‘Holy Cannoli’ wall contains ricotta-filled mini cannolis displayed in custom wooden boxes and accented with olive branches for a Tuscan feel.

The cake is sculptural and textured, but also soft and modern resembling the purple jade inspiration for this shoot. It is delicately embossed with a diamond pattern as well as small white flower embellishments dusted with a soft purple and topped with cascading sugar flowers. The bottom hexagon tier gives a nod to the number eight which is associated with wealth in the Chinese culture and ties into the stationery. The tea ceremony is one of the most important aspects of the Chinese wedding. Instead of the traditional red background, this shoot uses a backdrop that resembles purple jade and is combined with a minimalistic acrylic double happiness sign bringing a fresh and contemporary take on this very traditional ceremony.

84

85

86

The table is covered with a vinyl decal mimicking the stationery. Each tablesetting has a lavender plate grounded with a dark charcoal charger and is paired with a vintage teacup; topped with a lavender orchid, a chocolate pyramid treat as well as a linen napkin with a handwritten double happiness symbol napkin ring. The dragons and lions play an important role in Chinese mythology representing joy and happiness, and are often a part of the wedding. They are accompanied by the beating of drums, cymbals and gongs with their movements synchronized to the music. While the spectacular dragon envelopes the couple in the urban landscape that is Toronto to bring them luck and blessings.

Inspired by the colour orange and the mystique around the butterfly motif, this shoot is designed to look and feel like an enchanted forest. Butterflies are not only beautiful, but represent a time of transformation and new life, so this shoot also embodies this positive energy and magical nature. The rose hedge centrepieces were created to continue the look of the forest behind the tablescape. The butterflies overhead were made to look like they were blowing in the wind, adding to the enchanted feel of the forest. Clear plexi favour boxes with orange roses gave it a pop of modernity while the gold flatware and ornate gold chairs elevated the tabletop look, giving it a regal accent.

90

91

92

The invitation suite was designed to mimic the exact orange roses used in the tablescape, while the calligraphy elements provide a romantic aesthetic to the overall look.

93

94

This showstopping wedding cake mimicked a lot of the elements from the enchanted forest, including a see-through element in the middle of the cake. Sitting on top of one of the rose hedges and in front of golden gates, the wedding cake display was to die for. It was only fitting that the bride’s dress also have some drama. This look was mystical and enchanted, and only a bold ballgown would fit this look. The lace detailing on the gown gives the dress an elegant touch. While the groom’s tuxedo featured a textured alligator print for an added layer of detail.

The black and white contrast pairs beautifully with the gold tabletop accents and details. The cake is a showpiece amongst the timeless decor. It is truly a work of art, something for guests to view and admire. The furniture is a mix of old and new world with both modern and baroque finishes helping to create an edgy and stylish vibe. The baroque bar back paired with pillared candles helped bring everything together for a more romantic feel. The gown is a one-of-a-kind, customizable piece from Elite Bridal. It is simple and elegant, but still has that bridal feel. Small touches of beading and sparkle are just enough to round out the simplistic elegance of the shoot.

We initially met as teenagers in August 2004. Pierre had just come to church for the first time and we met in our youth sabbath school class. Funny enough that same day I had a disagreement with the sabbath school teacher and from that moment Pierre said he liked me. We became friends shortly after, and it was years later in our 20’s that we became more than just friends. I was celebrating my 30th birthday and planned a brunch with 30 of the most important and influential women in my life to thank them for the contribution they had made in my development as a women. It was at the end of the brunch, when I had given each individual women their gift and was giving a thank you speech for everyone attending, that Pierre had said he wanted to say a few words about me. It was then that he said that he loved me beyond words and asked for my hand in marriage.

For our outfits we knew we wanted a look that reflected us. Knowing that, I never imagined going for a princess dress type and always pictured myself in a more figure hugging look; but the moment I tried on my dress I knew it was the one! It helped as well that I was planning to get a second dress so that I could have two versatile looks. Pierre got his suit and suit jackets custom made from King & Bay and really enjoyed working with them to come up with his suit design. The ceremony jacket was more of a classic traditional look – all black with velvet lapels, whereas the reception jacket had a more fun green and black design.

126

We wanted a greenery theme for both our ceremony and reception using white, gold and green. However, as we got closer I became concerned about the greenery being overdone and there not being enough to break it up, so we ended up adding hints of black. For our ceremony we wanted it to be a true reflection of us as a couple but also us individually. That being so, we made sure it was sophisticated and elegant but had lots of fun elements mixed in. As I walked down the aisle, Pierre sang ‘My Dream’ by Jamie Fox and that’s something that I’ll always cherish and never forget, as well as his beautifully written personal vows.

127

The reception space was draped in all white and had white and green florals on all the guest tables. The floral arch used in our ceremony was repurposed and placed behind our sweetheart table alongside floral trees. The bridal party, cake table and head table had matching floral runners on them. For the tables we went with simple ivory coloured table cloths, with black napkins and black and gold charger plates to tie in all the colours. We also had clear chiavari chairs with black seats to make sure everything went together.

128

We absolutely loved our cake, it not only looked amazing but tasted amazing too! We had such a hard time choosing flavours because they all tasted so good, but decided on vanilla caramel skor and white chocolate raspberry which everyone loved. We also wanted to incorporate our Jamaican heritage, so at each guest seat we had individually wrapped boxes of Jamaican black cake for them to enjoy as well.

We met in 2005, I was in grade 10 and Freddy was in grade 12. We knew of each other through family friends, but we didn’t actually meet until high school. We starting hanging out on weekends but our real conversations sparked online, on MSN! He officially asked me out in December of that year, and we have been together ever since! It was our 10 year anniversary and we planned to go for dinner that night, however, I had something very special planned! I crafted this present – 10 items representing each year of our relationship. Freddy picked me up from my house, and we went for dinner at Chop Steakhouse. We set up drinks and were planning to do a toast and exchange gifts. I was so eager for him to open his gift and when he did, he quickly looked through it without any care. I then opened my bag, and as I was unravelling the tissue paper, Freddy stood up, and dropped down to one knee! After saying ‘OMG’ 400 times, I said YES! And bursted into tears and laughter. It was surreal, I was marrying my best friend! After dinner we headed back to my house which I thought was the end of our night; but as we entered the front door we were greeted by our family and friends. It was the best night of my life, until our wedding!

Freddy’s favourite colour – and all he wears – is blue, so for him and the groomsmen we choose navy for their suits. Burgundy has a nice fall feel, so we chose that for all the bridesmaids and added some blush in their bouquets. Both colours really popped on a beautiful sunny day and against my white dress!

132

One of my favourite parts of the wedding was the venue. The Arlington Estates has a beautiful terrace with a view of trees and a pond. It was simply stunning and gorgeous! We both grew up in Kleinburg, so the location was perfect for us.

133

My vision was clean and elegant, using geometric golds, marble and greenery which was carried throughout the entire wedding! The focal point was the gold diamond shelves which were paired with cream linens and a mix of gold and clear tall centerpieces with greenery and white florals.

134

The gold diamond backdrop was stunning, it tied the room together so well! Our favourite photo that we have in our home is of us cheersing and kissing over the cake, in front of the diamond shelves! We had three delicious cakes – a Mr, a Mrs, and a two-tier cake that mimicked the marble and gold look we had throughtout the space. We actually saved a tier for our one year anniversary, and it was still so fresh!

It was four o’clock on a cold December morning, excitement was in the air, school was out for winter break and I was travelling to Florida, like always, to visit my Grandmother and meet my family. After making it through security and customs I made my way to gate A19. I sat waiting to board the plane. A few minutes later a guy decided to sit across from me and said “hey, why are you travelling alone?” and I guess that’s where it all began... Ryan planned a weekend getaway to Niagara-on-the-Lake. We stayed at the Queen’s Landing Hotel and went on an old bus to a few different wineries. After the tour we went back to the hotel where Ryan left a handmade card under my pillow. Inside the card was a poem that he wrote and when I looked up he was on one knee!

137

Our breathtakingly beautiful wedding ceremony brought friends and family to the Fermenting Cellar where guests were welcomed in with sparkling candlelights in the wells flanking each side of the entryway leading the eye to the pastoral Chuppah, adorned with lush florals.

138

The Chuppah was one of our favourite details. It was a light and airy, rustic wood and branch Chuppah, adorned with fresh florals in whites and lavender and soft textural grey greens, cascading symmetrically at each of the front corners of the enchanted structure. The Chuppah was backlit with string lights creating a romantic surrounding haven, for the bride, groom and bridal party. A fermenting barrel stood centre stage with a David Aram Kiddush cup that had been gifted to Ryan and I on our wedding day.

139

Our spectacular head table was embellished with an array of lush and showy florals across the centre of the oval head table in varied layers and levels, glowing with ambient candlelights. The backdrop shimmered with alcoves filled with pedestals of sparkling candles and luxe florals, offering a lavish backdrop for us and our bridal party.

140

Fermenting barrels filled with luxurious florals were scattered throughout the room. When guests were invited to dine and celebrate, they were introduced to a space transformed... from the moment they were bestowed by the striking chandeliers, exposed brick and plaster walls and dark wood harvest tables filled with an abundance of sage green garlands, florals with rustic wood accents, complimented with a plethora of sparkling candlelights.

Elliot and I met in August of 2010 at a local bar in Guelph called Vynl. We both headed to the bar early that night to avoid the back-to-school crowds and long lines. My girlfriends and I arrived first, the bar was empty so we grabbed a drink and sat down at a booth. A few minutes later Elliot and his friends arrived, grabbed a drink and sat down at the booth beside us. Several minutes passed, and my friends and I could not believe that Elliot and his guys had not introduced themselves to us. After all, we were the only people in the bar! Taking matters into my own hands, I looked up over the booth and asked “what’s it going to take for you guys to come over here and talk to me and my beautiful friends!?” They all looked shocked, picked up their drinks, and came to sit with us. Before we knew it the bar was full and the music began. We all headed to the dance floor as a group and naturally broke off into pairs. Elliot and I ended up dancing together and at the end of the night we exchanged numbers. He sent me a text the next morning and a few days later we went on our first date at Williams Coffee shop. I remember that night like it was yesterday – it was raining and Williams was in the plaza next to my apartment building. Elliot offered to pick me up so I didn’t have to walk in the rain which is adorable because it was literally a two minute walk. We ended up talking for hours that night. After our date he dropped me home and I knew I had met someone who was going to change my life forever. Elliot and I were getting ready to celebrate our 7 year anniversary and I was wondering if this would be the night he proposed. We had been talking a lot about marriage and had even gone ring shopping. Trying not to interfere with any of his plans, I told Elliot he could plan our anniversary dinner this year since I was busy at work with an upcoming project. He just had to tell me the restaurant name and time and I would be there. While we enjoyed dinner I anxiously awaited for his proposal… which never came. We left the restaurant and I asked him what he wanted to do and he said go for a walk in the park. Thinking surely this would be it, I said lets go (even though I was cold). We walked around and once again, nothing happened. On our way back to our car I thought that tonight’s not the night and threw my hair up in a messy bun and started thinking about how nice my pj’s would feel once we got home! As we arrived to our condo, I opened the door to find purple rose petals and mini vynl records on the hallway floor leading to the living room. In the centre of the room was a purple-heart balloon with a large vynl record attached to it. As I walked over to it, I saw seven photos glued onto on the record – one from each year we had been together. I turned around to tell Elliot how beautiful this was and found him on one knee. It was the perfect proposal because purple is my favourite colour and we met at a bar called Vynl.

143

During my first consultation at Whyte Couture, I showed them pictures of my church and venue both of which were very grand. I also explained that I wanted a regal and romantic dress. Knowing that that was the overall vibe, I described what I liked most about other dresses I had tried on. I knew I wanted a fitted dress to show off my curves, sleeves for the fall, lace for a romantic look, a sweetheart neckline to show off the pearls I received from my parents for my 25th birthday, and I was not afraid of bling and a dramatic bottom. In the end I found my perfect dress that had everything I was looking for a more!

144

Elliot and I were both raised as Catholics so it was very important to our families that we got married in a church. Since both of our home parishes were not in Toronto (where we currently live) we looked at a few churches that were recommended to us. The moment we stepped into St. Paul’s Basilica we knew this is where we wanted to get married. The church had so much history and natural beauty that it only needed a few floral arrangements to tie in our colour scheme.

145

Elliot and I have always loved the fall so it was a no brainer to us that we would be getting married in September or October. I have also always loved the colour purple, in all of its shades! Trying to be different from the traditional reds and oranges, I wanted to use the colour purple as the inspiration for the reception decor and floral arrangements. A colour I always loved with purple was green and wanted to draw on this by having a lot of greenery in the floral arrangements. I also found that this look made for a very soft and romantic feel, which is exactly what I was going for. Then, when it came time to choose between gold or silver as an accent colour, it was obvious that gold was more aligned with my fall vibe and gave the reception a very rich and regal feel (beautifully complimenting the look of the Governor’s room at Liberty Grand).

146

Although I may have gone a little overboard on the amount of florals at the wedding, this was by far one of my favourite features. I absolutely loved the wow factor they created – the centrepieces were showstoppers and everyone commented on how they felt like they were entering a garden because of the smell of fresh flowers. To compliment the beautiful table decor, our stationery was the perfect final touch. The name cards were colour coordinated to the guest’s meal selection and we had a tri-fold table number card that let us include the menu on it and write a thank you message to our guests.

147

Anthony and I met at school while both attending York University. We met through some mutual friends and he decided to get my number from them, eventually we started talking over the phone, meeting up for coffee, and started going on dates. That was over 12 years ago. His ambition, intellect and nerdiness is what really made me fall for him. Anthony decided to take me out for dinner in Niagara-on-the-Lake one day. He told me to dress up, which typically we don’t do unless it’s a special occasion. We had dinner reservations at the Cannery Restaurant at the Pillar and Post, where we had an amazing and delicious three-course meal. After dinner, we decided to drive around the downtown area. We stopped and took a horse and carriage, and towards the end of the ride, the coachman pulled up to a lone gazebo overlooking the lake as the sun was setting in the background. We walked up to the gazebo and looked out into the distance, when I turned around Anthony took my hand and got down on one knee, opened up a ring box and proposed. I said yes of course!

After trying on many dresses, I tried on this one last gown just for fun; it was a Lee Petra Grebenau. When I came out fully adorned with veil and bouquet, my sister and I looked at each other and teared up instantly, I knew this had to be the one. It was perfect, very figure flattering. The beading on the bodice had the right amount of shimmer, replicating dainty little snowflakes, which were placed ever so carefully in the right places, while the transition of beading on the skirt was delicate and elongating. The white hand-tufted feathers added the right amount of haute couture I was looking for. I paired it with a simple cathedral length veil with a blusher and it complimented my gown very nicely.

150

The ceremony was very simple and traditional. The church itself was a heritage building, so it needed minimal decor as it had a lot of natural beauty. We had four beautiful arrangements at the front of the alter with muted ivory, champagne and blush tones with metallic gold stands; and two at the back of the church gracing the aisle.

151

Our design was subtle using pretty blush and champagne tones with white florals and lots greenery and geometric gold accents. The tall centrepieces and trees created the drama required for such a grand room with high ceilings. The assortment of gold centrepiece stands, Vdara chairs, head table arches and tables all brought clean metallic elements to accent the stunning floral arrangements. Lush greens hung over the long harvest tables cascading from the floral arrangements, all of which consisted of roses, Italian ruscus and anthuriums that complimented the overall glamorous look we were going for. All the tables were flooded with varying height candles adding some romantic impact. The floor decal tied in perfectly with the stationery which had a subtle gold marble print. Everything turned out elegant and clean but glamorous and momentous.

152

Our stunning suspended cake created a huge impact and added to the decor given Zehra’s attention to fine detail combined with her immaculate artistic abilities. The height of the cake coupled with the abundance of florals adorning the base of the cake created even more drama. Zehra understood our vision and the addition of the faberge eggs gave a more royal feel to an already stand out piece. Guests were in awe of the floating cake and couldn’t stop taking photos!

153

I spent a lot of time in Moscow in 2006 and 2007, in November of 2006, being very busy developing real estate properties in Toronto, my lawyer in Moscow suggested that I get an assistant to take care of things in Mosocw while I’m in Toronto, he suggested a young lady that he claimed was very birght and sharp, but forgot to tell me that she also was very pretty, he introduced me to Yuliya. Yuliya and I immediately connected and within a short time it turned into a love story and we have been inseperable since. The first year was tough having to travel to Moscow every two weeks, but knowing that Yuliya was waiting for me, I looked forward to that flight without any hesitation, unfortunately the businesses in Moscow did not work out but our personal lives sure did! After living together for almost ten years, I proposed to Yuliya on New Year’s Eve in 2016 while we were on a Caribbean cruise. I proposed to Yuliya together with our twin daughters, they were the ring carriers and my cheering group. It was a lot of fun and the girls did a good job keeping it a secret. The rest of the night was all about dancing and having a great time, the girls only being four at the time stayed up the whole night and had a wonderful time with us.

155

I tried on a lot of gowns but when I put this one on, it shimmered in almost a Disney Princess kind of way. It hit the right notes – it was very sexy but had such a full skirt that it felt regal and captured the look that I was hoping for. I knew that both Gary and my little girls would love it equally. My girls were an absolute joy to dress. We opted for golden-buttery coloured gowns and the most adorable golden sparkly running shoes. They loved playing dress up for Mommy and Daddy’s big day.

156

The twins and I love pink so although we liked all the blush florals in magazines, we knew we wanted something brighter and more dramatic. Finding the perfect colour scheme was very important to me and something I spent a lot of time on. I liked everything but ‘loved’ nothing until Karina, our planner, showed me one of her favourite flowers – the lush coral charm peony. It was absolutely beautiful; but they bloom early and wouldn’t be available for our wedding. So as worried as I was, our florist worked her magic and we got them along with almost a dozen other shades of complimentary pink and coral roses mixed with lots of greenery, making the arrangements look very lush. It was floral heaven!

157

Once we had the coral charm peony to draw from, I wasn’t sure what to do about linens. We played with the idea of a nice pink but it seemed too simple. Then, one day, Karina brought a box of Laudere Macaroons to our meeting as a little gift for me. The box was very french, a beautiful shade of green with gold accents and I fell in love with it considering I love all things french. So we already had the corals and pinks, and using that box as inspiration, we decided to use green linens for the tables. To compliment the linens we used these beautiful pink charger plates and opted for gold accents and an abundance of florals and candles on each table. We loved how all the colours came together!

158

Gary is both an avid antique collector and an incredible story teller. During a cake tasting, he entertained Zehra and Karina with a funny story about an urn he had passed on in an auction which later went on to adorn the mantle of a famous politician. He also shared information about a Sevres urn that he loved, which Karina thought would be the perfect inspiration for our cake. Zehra was up for the challenge of marrying the urn inspiration with my love for fine hand-drawing and thick knife work along with some traditional cake detailing. In the end, our cake looked too good to eat, it was absolutely breathtaking!
