My greatest joy in life is to travel, to see and feel new experiences, especially anything I would not normally have access to in my hometown Vancouver, Canada. Personally I have been traveling since I was a year old, and even moved out to London, England for a year to really hit the ground running to fill out my passport with as many stamps as I could. After traveling all around Europe and the UK, I started to explore Mexico, the Caribbean and South America. Being a huge fan of the “sun and beach life”, I am surprised I waited so long to visit sun & beach destinations, especially since I am situated relatively close to Mexico. I know there is a cliché thought with Mexico being “too touristy” or “commercialized” but thinking that is the same as judging a book only by its cover. Yes, some regions of Mexico do cater to the tourists, but there are also so many
neighborhoods, villages, towns and cities that one can visit to experience a bit of “authentic Mexico”. Cancun is frequently criticized as being a destination that offers a year-round spring break atmosphere, but Cancun also offers its guests so much more! Beautiful beaches, luxury resorts and a safe environment for visitors of all ages. Tourists will find unlimited dining options, numerous activities and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. If you travel a bit south to the Riviera Maya region, you will find the heart of the Quintana Roo State. My younger sister and I took a spur of the moment trip to Southern California to see if it was a place that I’d want to move to after graduating from college. One of my best friends from Michigan had already made the move to California so we decided to spend some time with her in order to get the full experience.The first night we showed up to her apartment she had some friends over and she introduced me to her friend Travis who was also from Michigan! I am always so excited to meet people from my hometown! We chatted through the night, and ended up hanging out together every day of my trip. We kept in touch and built this amazing friendship and eventually relationship. If you know me well enough, you eventually will be exposed to my deep love for animals! Two years ago,Travis made my childhood dream come true. He planned a trip to South Africa filled with every animal experience that my younger self would dream about. In the first four days of our trip, we walked cheetahs, roamed fields with elephants, hung out with wild penguins and dove with great whites. One particular day,Travis and I drove from our hotel to see the southernmost point of Africa.We were navigating ourselves by a road map and the cars compass and got lost too many times for me to count but the drive was one of the most beautiful things I had ever experienced. We got so lost in this little town where no one spoke English. We were going to turn around and head back to the hotel but Travis was determined to take me to see the southernmost point at sunset. I could have sworn I was staring at a painting. With no other soul in site, we climbed around on the beach for about 20 minutes and talked about how amazing it would be to travel like this together for the rest of our lives. At one point, I could tell that Travis stopped walking for a second so I turned around to make sure he was okay. He was down on one knee with a little black box in his perfect hands. I was so shocked!! In a wavering voice, he told me everything I wanted to hear in that perfect moment and I said yes!!

Our wedding weekend began with a Mehndi welcome party at the Parq Vancouver that was decorated by Raj at Lux Affairs.With a lot of Travis’ family being newly exposed to the Indian culture, I wanted to give our guests the full experience! The celebrations were going to begin that night! We went with vibrant pinks and oranges, tea light lamps, elephant molds, and Raj created these amazing lounge areas that were draped with vibrant fabrics and hanging umbrellas. The highlight of that night was the swing we incorporated in one of the lounges! All of our guests were relaxing on it at one point for the perfect photo opportunity! After that amazing night, I wanted to build our wedding day around a timeless ambiance. Our wedding décor inspiration was inspired by a minimalistic version of a Modern Moroccan theme because our ceremony location at Sea to Sky Gondola was extremely beautiful and didn’t need much.We had a bi-cultural wedding that incorporated a Christian ceremony and a Hindu ceremony. I wanted there to be the perfect blend of these two cultures on our wedding day. I chose muted tones of blush, cremes, and golds mixed with intricate Moroccan details and greenery. Bespoke Décor took my theme and ran with it! Our first look was held at such a beautiful location that was suspended on the mountain looking out at the Squamish scenery. I was so anxious all morning but as soon as I saw Travis at the end of the lookout point, I felt at ease.

The reception was by far the most shocked I was all weekend! It was beautiful! I told Ashton from Bespoke Décor that since we were doing our reception back at the The Parq Vancouver, that I was nervous about the reception feeling too much like a hotel ballroom. I wanted it to feel just as magical as Sea to Sky where we continued the same colour scheme and inspiration. They went above and beyond! The outdoor patio where we had cocktail hour wasn’t even recognizable! They created this vibe that felt like you were traveling back in time to a 1920’s lounge but with subtle Moroccan twist. Our theme continued into the ballroom.They even built a giant pergola around the head table that was covered in the most beautiful flowers! Such a magical night thanks to an even more magical team!

We met in high school through our mutual friend Simar, but I lived in Kamloops and Gurpreet in Surrey, so we would chat online. We had met up a few times whenever I would go visit family in Surrey but at the time we were both too shy to pursue a relationship. After talking on/off for 12 years, it wasn’t until I moved back from Australia that Gurpreet had run into Simar and gave his number to give to me. Within a week I sent him a text, and we planned to meet up. Our first lunch date ended up being a few hours long and since that day he said he would not let me get away so easily this time and we’ve been together since. We planned a trip to Las Vegas to see the Backstreet Boys in concert with some friends. After the concert, everyone decided to go see the fountains at Bellagio. Gurpreet asked to take a picture together in front it and just as I was getting ready to pose he said he had to ask me something he’d been waiting to since he was 17. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I had been wearing a ring on that finger, so I quickly took it off and threw it into the fountain as he pulled out the ring. I was so shocked and happy. Our friends came running up to congratulate us and everyone around us was clapping.

We met at an alumni professional networking program at the University of British Columbia – where we both got our masters degree. At the time, Jon lived in Toronto and I lived in Vancouver. We were strategy consultants and travelled a lot, and so would meet up whenever we were in the same city.We really enjoyed each other’s company but had 42,000km between us. So one day I decided to pursue Jon, and out of the blue, she sent him a text: “are you interested in going to NYC with me?” I loved the city and was planning to move there one day. Jon, puzzled and excited, said yes, and after spending an amazing week together we started dating. Two years later, Jon proposed on another trip to NYC – in the same place that we had our first drink. A couple of months after our engagement, we moved to NYC, I attended the Columbia Business School to get my MBA and Jon opened the NYC office for his real estate development firm.

Take a step back in time at H Tasting Lounge, the Vancouver lounge that transports guests to another time and place with curated cocktails and global cuisine. Inspired by iconic billionaire and pioneer in early aviation Howard Hughes, H Tasting Lounge blends modern elegance with a dash of nostalgia in its art deco atmosphere, brought to life through Liv Interior designs. Each piece – from the plush pastel couches, to the gold-plated marble tables and 3,000-piece Swarovski crystal chandelier glistening overhead – makes a statement and tells a story of its own.
The signature cocktails at H Tasting Lounge have been thoughtfully crafted by Premium Bartender, Dylan Williams, with each inspired creation named after a city visited by Howard Hughes during his infamous world tour. The luxurious House of Fabergé cocktail is concocted with Ciroq vodka, toasted hazelnut, green peppercorn and lactic acid, and is served tableside in a breakable ‘egg,’ before its vibrant contents are released into the glass.

H Tasting Lounge Executive Chef Alex Mok is the talent behind the globally inspired cuisine that highlights the dinner and afternoon tea menus. Aviation-inspired “Boarding”, “Take-Off” and “Taxi” items categorize dishes by the stage of the meal. Start with a light selection, like the Ahi Tuna Poke Taco from the “Boarding” section, before moving on to something more substantial from “In-Flight” section, like the Howard’s 28-day Aged Striploin prepared sous-vide style.

Afternoon tea is an indulgent affair at H Tasting Lounge. Delicate jewelry boxes and a golden Ferris Wheel decorate the table carrying mouthwatering delicacies like braised pork bao, smoked salmon tea sandwiches, wild mushroom and bacon pastry cups, and prosciutto croissants. Selections also include an array of decadent sweets, including panna cotta, lemon curd, passionfruit mousse, lavender buns and tiramisu. Brimming golden tea cups accompany, featuring Tealeaves loose leaf selections, with option to upgrade to one of our hand-crafted bubbly cocktails. Afternoon tea is always complemented with our world famous bonsai candy floss. Elevate your experience with Canadian Sturgeon Caviar, available for an additional charge.
Prawn Cocktail
International vintage wine selections, premium champagne and rare cognacs also comprise the extensive beverage program at H Tasting Lounge, while weekend live music sets the mood with performances by local musicians and DJs. The wallto-wall partition provides privacy and an ideal space for hosting intimate events fit for 20 guests, with views that overlook the Coal Harbour Marina.
