Editor’s Letter Life can seem generic at times, copy and paste, but our celebrity features are going to new depths to find something greater. Join us as we rediscover what it means to live and give. Our Men’s cover star, Actor/producer/ philanthropist Theo Rossi, known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy, Luke Cage, and Lowriders forged a relationship with A Very Special Place, Inc. during production of the feature film Bad Hurt. AVSP opened its doors more than 40 years ago to serve the community of men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities. “Our differences are what set us apart and make us exceptional. I think awareness like this is needed in the world right now more than ever,” says Theo Rossi. Actress and wildlife campaigner Maggie Q (Nikita, Divergent, Designated Survivor) has spent time working in Kenya with leading conservation charity, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) on a mission to raise awareness of the threats facing elephants and the efforts being made to protect them. Maggie is also a co-producer of Earthlings, a documentary that explores major industries and the ways in which they use and abuse animals. Maggie,a longtime supporter of PETA, starred in a stunning anti-fur ad for PETA last year. Star of E!’s THE ARRANGEMENT, actress Christine Evangelista has been involved with Veterinarians International, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people, animals and the environment. Jay Hayden and his fellow co-star of ABC’s STATION 19 Danielle Savre stay grounded by volunteering their time for charity. Here’s a cool fact, while Danielle plays a fire fighter on TV, her sister Stephanie is one of only 93 female LAFD firefighters. Keeping with this issue’s theme of living and giving, we caught up with CATCH owners Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum to discuss the one-stop seafood and beverage experience. Even with staying busy and growing new locations around the world, CATCH keeps things fresh and viable by incorporating local and sustainable ingredients wherever possible. As we continue to grow ourselves and our businesses, Let’s keep in mind that it’s the small things that we do that make the world and ourselves better. That’s what is important!

THEO ROSSI BOTH ONSCREEN & OFF, THEO ROSSI IS ALL ABOUT AUTHENTICITY Written by: Celia Shatzman

There’s a pretty good chance you’ve seen Theo Rossi onscreen lately. He stole scenes on Marvel’s Luke Cage for Netflix and in his breakthrough role as Juice on FX’s critically acclaimed series Sons of Anarchy. There were also turns in Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Cloverfield, to name a few. The point is, the guy has range. So what do all of his characters have in common? “Humanity and authenticity,” he says. “I feel like everybody has something in them that’s hurting. My only goal when I pick characters is to pick ones that people can relate to, and that’s by showing what’s going down inside of them internally. There’s usually something that they’ve been through—even if they’re a good guy—and it’s my job to express that. How can I show their flaws but in a beautiful way?”

LAPALMEMAGAZINE.COM

Rossi will do a deep dive into Shades, his character on Luke Cage, for season 2. “The whole reason I took this show is for what’s about to be shown,” Rossi says. “Shades fancies himself as the smartest person in the room, he always has an agenda, he’s this mastermind, and we get to see everything about him this year, like how he navigates, why he’s there, and his past. I love how absolutely unpredictable he is. I think that’s why everybody loves when he’s on the screen.” To be able to play more of those types of characters, Rossi formed the New York-based production company Dos Dudes Pictures. “I don’t ever want to be one of those people that complains about the state of film and doesn’t do anything about it,” Rossi says. “I have the ability to make my own movies and I wanted to be able to tell the stories that I want to tell. I used to love going to the movies every week and diving into people’s lives for a moment. Sadly, those films are far and few between now, so I decided to make them. We like to get our retinas blown out on screen, and I like that too, but I also like telling real stories about real people and making someone who is in that theater feel something and that’s what Dos Dudes’ main goal is.” They released the award-winning film Bad Hurt in 2016 and just wrapped up Vault, Rossi’s first film as a leading man, which they hope to premiere at a film festival, and other projects are currently in development. That same authenticity is in his philanthropy work, which is as broad as his acting roles. Just a few highlights: He’s an advisory board member for the Garden of Dreams, the nonprofit arm of Madison Square Garden; an ambassador and fundraiser host with Boot Campaign, a nonprofit dedicated to veterans and military families; a Humane Society ambassador since 2014; and has visited several U.S. Military bases, including a USO trip to troops serving in Iraq. And he went straight to his hometown of Staten Island to help rebuild houses after Hurricane Sandy. Then there’s GoGetItLIFE, which he founded in 2014 that was actually sparked by a hashtag Rossi used to motivate himself. When he was training to play Juice on Sons of Anarchy, he’d wake up at 4am after sleeping for four hours to go on a 10-mile run. To jump-start his day, he’d write quotes on Twitter with the hashtag. People would retweet them, request more from Rossi, and write their own tweets and blogs and hashtag GoGetItLIFE. “It started to take on a life of its own,” Rossi says. “I said wouldn’t it be great if there was a place where people could go be themselves and tell their stories and other people can hear them and maybe it will help them. So, if somebody is talking about drug abuse and how they overcame it, or somebody is dealing with a sibling who committed suicide, or a mother who lost a child,

others can see that they’re not alone.” With that idea, Rossi turned GoGetItLIFE into a website. In addition to sharing people’s stories, he includes all of the charities he works with. GoGetItLIFE hosts a 5K race in New York City every year, with proceeds going to various nonprofits. Overall, the purpose of GoGetItLIFE is to encourage people to live healthy, happy lives through its online community and social media. Rossi sums up his philosophy on giving back through a Paul Newman quote: “I don’t think there’s anything exceptional or noble in being philanthropic. It’s the other attitude that confuses me.” He has based his life on that. “If you are fortunate enough to do what you love and be in a public position, you have this responsibility to give back,” Rossi says. “You just do. We all do. Our only job as humans is to be better than we were yesterday.” Jacket & Pants: J. Lindeberg Shirt: Velvet Shoes: To Boot New York Watch: Rolex Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

CHASING RAYS

Written by Darryle Moody @darrylem_nmo

2019 BMW i8 Roadster $163,300 Brand new hybrid that’s just in time for summer. Just tick the box for BMW Laserlight, they are $6,300 but your car will have lasers!

It’s the time that people really start to consider a convertible or what I refer to as a fun car. Feeling the warmth of the sun and the wind in your hair aren’t the only benefits of a soft top car. The chance to enjoy great views from a convertible that you would otherwise completely miss in a closed car, or an SUV which seems like everyone is now driving these days. Mundane errands around town aren’t such a chore as a top down jaunt offers a different view of familiar surroundings. Is there really anything better than a late night cruise through town, music playing and stars above you on a perfect summer night? I think not. And that planned summer vacation you have coming up is now a getaway in a cabriolet. There are plenty of nice cabriolets (seats four) and roadsters (seats two) to choose from, including a brand new hybrid roadster. So pick one, turn up the music and head for nowhere in particular and start chasing those rays. Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet $133,000 This may very well be the best all-around cabriolet in the world.

Ford Mustang Convertible $36,195 This the best one Mustang yet, and the muscular looks are spot on.

Bentley Continental GTC S V8 $231,800 Skip the W12, this one has 500lbs less over the front axel. And who doesn’t look good in a Bentley?

MINI Cooper S Convertible $31,250 Customization is a hallmark MINI, so its easy to make yours the ideal partner crime.

Lamborghini Huracan Spyder $262,450 Nobody acquires a Lamborghini to drive it slow. With the V10 nestled just behind your ears you’ll want to hear it at full chat, often. Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 Cabriolet $60,800 It’s perfect drag racing and frequent trips to Neiman Marcus.

HOT STUFF

With his latest role playing a firefighter on Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Station 19, Jay Hayden’s career is heating up.

34

Written by: Celia Shatzman

Jay Hayden is not afraid to get his hands dirty. With his return to Shondaland for the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Station 19, he’s playing firefighter Travis—and actually learning how to wield that axe. “After we all got cast, they put us with LAFD guys, who were also going to be technical advisors, and we went down to one of their training stations,” Hayden says. “It was a crash course in a couple days of everything we’d have to do, and everything that they did. It’s staggering what these guys are able to do. If we’re going up a ladder onto a rooftop and cutting ventilation holes, we’ll go in the day before we shoot that and learn how to do it step by step. It’s been crazy.” But don’t assume that the role is all work and no play. The perk of being solidly in the coveted Shondaland club—Hayden previously had a role on The Catch—is that they know how to cater to their cast. “Everyone in Shondaland knows that I like to do comedy, so Travis is one of the funny ones on the show,” Hayden says. “When they brought me in for the character they were like, ‘we don’t want to lose what you like to do, which is to be funny. We will write that for you.’ Travis cares about everyone on the team and sometimes is even overprotective of them. His heart is what makes me very fulfilled playing him.” Hayden doesn’t take his Shondaland status lightly. “I feel very lucky— knock on wood—to be included,” he says. “There’s a loyalty and a dedication and everyone is striving toward the same goal, which is to tell a great story.” He jokes that if Shonda Rhimes wanted him to rake her lawn, he’d be there in a heartbeat. That goes back to not being afraid to get his hands dirty. Hayden has a design build company, David Vincent, with his good friend Christian Munoz. It all started when Hayden asked him

Jacket: Rag + Bone Tee: J Crew Pants: J Crew Sneakers: H&M Belt: Bloomingdale’s

LAPALMEMAGAZINE.COM

to help build a man cave in his backyard in Los Angeles. “We did it in a month and had so much fun,” Hayden says. “We joked we should start a company with both of our middle names and call it David Vincent.” Shortly after, Hayden bought a fixer upper, leveled the house down to the studs, and invited Munoz to rebuild it with him, using it to launch their company portfolio. “It took a year and three months and it was the hardest thing we ever did, but we built my house.” A neighbor came over to ask who was building the house, and when Hayden told him they were, that’s when David Vincent took off. The neighbor hired them to build Spartina, a restaurant on Melrose, and from there it snowballed. While it might seem totally unrelated to acting, Hayden doesn’t see construction that way. “There’s something about taking something apart and then rebuilding it,” he says. “I think it’s closely related to acting in terms of stripping something down to the bone, finding out what gives it strength, and then rebuilding around it and giving it its own original look. There’s something to approaching a character that’s similar, but the physicality of going to work is awesome.” Clearly, Hayden is a Renaissance guy. He can even sing—sort of. He has a recurring role on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but he actually auditioned for the male lead. “I had come in and read with Rachel (Bloom) and I knew it went really great; we had great chemistry. And then they brought me back to sing and I could actually see everyone go, ‘he’s just not quite good enough to sing on the show.’ So I was sad, I think they were sad too, and then they came knocking one day. They said, ‘listen, we have this part and don’t worry, there’s no singing yet.’ I was like, ‘what do you mean?’ Look, I played the Cowardly Lion when I was in high school, and I sang then. I guess apparently my voice hasn’t grown up,” Hayden laughs. But for Hayden, the most important role is being a dad. You might find him, his wife, his 9-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son on a bike ride on the Venice boardwalk, or blasting baseballs into their neighbor’s yard. To get in additional bonding, he’s taking a break from acting to spend more time with his kids. “Growing up, my dad worked a lot and I didn’t see him as much as I wish I had,” he says. “While I can, I’m going to take the opportunity to spend some good time with them. I’m being bad in my career and I’m going to take a hiatus.” That’s another reason you can’t put Hayden in a box—and the half-Korean and half-Irish American likes it that. “I’m not a white guy, I’m not an Asian guy, I’m something else,” he says. “I like being the outlier, the unchecked box. Earlier in my life I thought being ethnically ambiguous was a way to get in on everything, like I can be the ethnic friend or the white friend—you don’t know what I am. Then I realized that’s not the right way to look at it. That’s not what it is. The fact is that I don’t have to be anything. I can just be Jay.”

LET’S GET READY TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF GROUP FITNESS Written by: Chiara Casiraghi

LAPALMEMAGAZINE.COM LAPALMEMAGAZINE.COM

“Treat my first like my last, and my last like my first, and my thirst is the same as when I came” Jay-Z lyrics and the class motto of NYC’s fastest growing workout experience Rumble. Noah Neiman, co-founder, and trainer at Rumble knows that what he and co-founders (Eugene Remm, Andy Stenzler, and Anthony DiMarco) have created is so much more than a place to workout. “I’m really proud of the culture we have instituted at Rumble and I think that’s what really resonates with people and why it has become such a culturally relevant space, more than a place where people go to ‘get fit’”. This counter-gym culture is an very real evolution in the personal health/fitness world where customers are no longer satisfied with the offerings of the classic gym model. The new client is discerning, demanding and wants more of their tastes and interests satisfied when choosing a workout. “We wanted to reflect what we as the owners, who have elevated tastes, would want as consumers”. Elevated is a key word in the Rumble verbiage and it shows throughout the brand. Custom designed artwork adorns the walls creating Instagramble moments throughout the space. Noah’s passion for Rumble is evident in every detail. “When we were designing Rumble we really wanted it to be an experience, like this Kayne West concert. So you walk in and you have this big stage for the trainer, they have controls of all the lights, a DJ-like panel where the lights are interactive, with black lights and of course an amazing sound system where you literally feel like you’re in a nightclub”. That’s just the workout. The whole facility is incredibly clean, high end, very bright. We have our friend who created custom commissioned artwork; caricatures of Naomi Campbell right next to Mike Tyson from the late 90’s.” It’s a very welcoming and social media friendly, fun space to walk into with a millennial appeal. With Noah’s elite knowledge and experience in boxing and fitness, along with the stellar talents of his business partners and co-owners it’s no wonder Rumble is the fastest growing fitness experience in NYC. With a new location opening up in West Hollywood this year and more plans for nationwide expansion. “We been around for one year and opening our third location with eyes on D.C, San Fransisco etc..” A not so secret secret to Rumbles success is, they never set out to make Rumble different “we just were

42

authentic to ourselves.” Being extremely educated and well rounded as founders has really contributed to the uniqueness, and success of Rumble. “A year later we have 90,000 customers, and we’re the number one fitness studio over any long-standing fitness institution.” In a world of “public figures” Noah prefers the title “Public Servant”. During his time as a master trainer at Barry’s Bootcamp it didn’t take him long to realized what fueled his fire: seeing the positive impact he was making in other peoples lives through fitness. “When I first started I wanted to be successful and I thought for that success I needed money, the acclaim and for people to know me. Noah found that focusing on furthering his personal successes was tiring, baseless and unfulfilling. “I discovered quickly that the more I focused on how I can positively affect other people, how I can use my strength and confidence everything that I’ve built up, not to help myself but to help others, the less I felt anxious, the less I felt any depression and the more I felt good! That’s why I still teach and I love it. The paradox is the more I focus on other people the more I became successful. In turn Rumble is successful because the public supports us and they support us because we go above and beyond to give them what they want and help them find their own strength”. I had to ask Noah how he prepares to “kill it” in a Rumble class: “I like to make sure I’m fresh. I make sure I get my coffee in, a couple eggs, avocado, a balanced breakfast. I’ll walk in to class with the new Nike’s on. I focus on feeling as good as I can about myself because I know if I feel good and I have taken care of everything I’ll feel ready to go! But then again this is a lifestyle for me. I teach, I own a business, and I’m an entrepreneur. I have to fit in a workout too!” Then Noah bestowed on me age old trainer wisdom “the corniest trainer adage of my life which I’ll tell you is If you stay ready you never have to get ready. I take such great care of my body and my mental state that I can pop into a 45-minute Rumble class, then run down to Sirius XM for an interview and then I have trainer meetings, then I run over and see how the build-out is going on the upper east side so, I just stay ready.” www.rumble-boxing.com

THE LISTENING ROOM

SKYXXX By: Dakota LaPalme @kotasaurusrex

Born in Manhattan but raised in Orlando, Skyxxx developed a unique sound that makes listeners dive into the depths of their emotions and discover lost and enigmatic parts of ourselves. He holds the key to creating a powerful track but never recreating the same sound in each track. When asked the type of music he makes, he’ll respond “Fyr spelled, fyr” (fire). Currently based in Los Angeles, CA Skyxxx was able to sit down with LaPalme Magazine and let us pick his brain.

What part of the music industry interested you first? Was it the working with an engineer I never dabbled in it, even though I know I production and engineering aspect or word play and lyricism? could co-produce and co-engineer for sure. I was never too interested in the industry so to speak. I was interested in being able to make someone feel something with only your voice. Seeing the process didn’t interest you at all? No. I know what I’m good at and its rap. My mind works too fast, What is your earliest memory of making music? if I sit there and try to work by myself I would be so unproductive When I was a kid I used to freestyle in New Jersey. We moved from because I’ll be doing so much. Its easier for me to sit next to someone Manhattan, NY to New Jersey when I was about 3 years old. We with some experience. Its like photoshop, I have some experience in moved into this house where the previous owner died in the basement. photoshop but theres certain things I can’t do and don’t even want to In the basement! I don’t know why or how, but I found a Fugees tape learn because its going to take so much of my time. I know people in that basement. The Score (1996). I had a walkman at the time, that are geniuses with it, so I sit there like “I need this on this, or can thats still a tattoo I’ll get. I remember it being a Sony walkman with a you move this” since I know how the program works they understand blue oval on it. I put the Fugees tape in and I bumped that tape for 2 what I’m trying to say. Its the same with engineering and producing. years. Thats what got me into liking music. I have a Dominican family and that was the first lick of hip hop I ever had and I liked it. After Do you feel like rapping in Orlando brought you a lot of business? that, I heard the Blue Print from Jay Z and I was like I’m a rapper now. I would say yes, I made a lot of money with rap. Especially once I So I would sit there and start searching for artists and watch MTV for hours. I started writing raps and then I was known to freestyle on the block in New Jersey. They used to call me Skittles because I always had a bag of skittles with me. Thats where it started. Being able to express yourself through sound and say whatever it is you have to say with a beat behind it, to me, was the dopest shit ever. Did you ever dip into making your own beats or do you commission people to make beats for you? Yeah, I actually didn’t really know how to do anything until I moved to Florida. I moved to Florida when I was 13 and I was still freestyling. I didn’t know anything about recording until about 18. I ran into this kid at the barbershop and he was like “bro, you’re sick I’ll record you for free.” So I started to go to his house and thats where I got my name Sky from. The neighborhood was called Skylake South. I used to trap outta there. That was the most urban-looking neighborhood at the time in Hunter’s Creek. Hunter’s creek is really suburban-y and Sky Lake South is the only “hood” in that area. Once I started going to this kid’s house to record, thats where I learned the recording process. I guess since I started off

SKYXXX took it seriously, because I was lucky enough to meet plenty of producers and rappers that were already in the spotlight. Those connections led me to getting signed to a label called Street Smart Music. I still got the tattoos too. Being from Orlando, you know their music grind is different because people are still printing CDs and making flyers to local shows and mixtapes. Its so far behind, like the trapper way of promoting music. That was the grind. I picked that up and I understood how to make a project. That was also my first time getting album artwork done and once I saw myself reflected in this professional photograph, that was a wrap. I was a rapper. I dropped out of college and dropped everything. What were you majoring in at the time? Interior design. I was past decorative design and I was more into structural design, like where A/C vents are placed and how doors open up. I found a studio in my school and I stopped going to class and met another dope artist. Once we started rapping together, we both dropped out. You must’ve had alot of faith in yourself to drop out of college, Sky. From the other side, I could see them thinking I was crazy. Education is important and I’m not against school at all. I was just interested in a different path. Someone conservative will look at me and think that I’m dumb, but can you compose a song? Can you rhyme words that haven’t been in previous books? You are a master at your craft and I am a master at mine. That doctor that may look at us crazy is the same doctor listening to our music on the way to work and while performing surgery. In which direction would you push your children? I would allow them to figure it out and depending on the direction I see them going, I will feed their interests. I have an 8 year old daughter now and if she’s more on the creative side, I’ll help her out. Since you’ve dropped out of school, theres no plan b for you? Its rap or die? No, theres no plan b. Theres a difference in risk and faith. I’m taking a risk and I’m benefiting from the struggle. When I get something back, its so much more rewarding. When you have a job, whatever comes from the dream you’re chasing is not as rewarding because you’re exhausted from working that day job. I don’t mind rocking out, but having a job is not a bad thing. You’ve gotta fund yourself. What is the most rewarding aspect for you? Is it making music, hearing a completed track, your crowd singing back to you, tours? Making it. I make music for myself. People singing it back or singing along with you is dope, people appreciating the music is dope but overall I don’t make music for anybody but myself. Whats your favorite song that you’ve released? Lost Love. Thats if I had to choose a favorite, because I don’t have a favorite anything. The only reason it would be my favorite is because its one of my favorite freestyles; the depth

of the song and how emotional it is lowkey and the fact its a freestyle. It was like making a love song by freestyling.

(HER)

Who was your favorite collaboration so far? I don’t have a favorite anything but I would say Keez and I got a pretty good one right now, but its unreleased. A lot of people say they love us together. Coming out of Orlando wasn’t hard? Since you’ve started the underground scene, a lot of rappers have gotten signed and began performing at festivals. No, a couple labels were following me and offered to sign Well, we were all doing good and on our grind (Swampposse, Skyxxx’s music crew) - So I wanted us all to get signed. I should’ve did what everyone does, but I’m not built like that. This is what my move to California was all about. I’m not suppressing anything and I don’t regret anything. I owe me. I never looked at rappers as competition because we don’t have the same style, the same flows, upbringing, or anything. This year is going to be a slaughterhouse. What can we expect from you this year? Humbleness holds you back so this year I’ve picked up a new manager and we’re moving strategically around the underground artists and going straight to the top with my hits. I have two full albums ready to drop. I know the industry background and it disgusted me. Since I know how the industry works, I want to expose it and show other artists they don’t have to do it like that. My name was so tied to the underground that people weren’t seeing my projects the way they should’ve. I want my music to start speaking for itself before I do festivals. When I go back home, people tell me I’m a legend and I never ate it up because its like I’m not your legend - I’m just doing something you’re scared to do. Now I owe y’all, I gotta be that legend because I’m not just going to be another story. Im gonna be everything you told me I was and I act like that now. Nobody on this planet can freestyle better than me. Thats when I am the happiest in my life. Imagine falling into a dark pool and your thoughts are just floating around you in partial sentences and since you’re sinking, you have enough time to grab them and say it at the same time. Thats how I feel when I freestyle. Subscribe and get lost in the Skyxxx we fell in love with on Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Youtube and Hotnewhiphop.

USING LAZERS TO DEFY AGE Written by: Coleen Janeway, @Skinfoodbodylove, Lifestyle Editor, LaPalme Magazine

Dr. Shawn Abrishamy, of Clear Medical in Marina del Rey, CA explains how using laser energy treatments such as the Total FX and Active FX laser can totally redefine your skin’s texture.

Have you ever wondered how some people look so rested and youthful? Is it something you are missing, or is it in their genes? More than likely they have an ace in their pocket, if we are being honest. There’s no secret sauce for maintaining beauty and improving wellness, it’s more like having a finely tuned instrument. The more you pick it up and play it, the better the feel for how to tune it and enhance the quality of the sound you are trying to produce. Along the way things must be changed, adjusted and overhauled; just like your skin or your skincare routine. Skin is the largest organ of your body, 20 square feet actually. Our lives tend to get busy and sometimes we can neglect ourselves, the face specifically can take a tremendous amount of abuse over many years. However, the point here is to lessen the abuse and turn back the clock so the mistakes of our youth do not define the way we age. Luckily there are experienced doctors and anti-aging treatments to help us repent and erase oxidative stress, sun damage, all while naturally rebuilding our own collagen. Dr. Abrishamy is a leading non-surgical practitioner of aesthetics, known for his full liquid face lift expertise. Dr. Abrishamy believes most people shy away from lasers because they have been misinformed about downtime or results. “At Clear Medical our staff takes time to focus on each individual patient for the best possible outcome. Laser energy, especially Active and Total FX is completely customizable. More often people are posting their results and experiences on open forums and platforms to help others understand how their treatment played out.” What is important to note is not all machines are equal and not all practitioners have the same level of experience in working with laser technology. Meaning, a review you may read or someone else’s experience will most certainly not be your experience. Once you find a trusted practitioner make sure to have a through consult and discuss all possible outcomes and downtime. We all want results right? How do we guarantee this? “Knowing your the right candidate is a good start. Some skin types could be at risk and I would not advise this treatment.” says Dr. Abrishamy. The Active FX is going to target fine lines, wrinkles, overall skin texture, and helps to promote your body’s own collagen growth. Anyone looking for solid anti-aging maintenance this is perfect. Those at risk tend to be of darker skin types, burning can occur which can lead to the possibility of pigmentation. Under the hood, the mechanics of if all: This fractional resurfacing procedure uses a high-energy laser beam to re-

move the damaged upper layer of skin. During the healing process, the skin tightens, pigmented spots improve, and new collagen is formed to help firm the skin and reduce fine lines and scars. Unlike old CO2 lasers, the Active FX, Deep FX, Total Fx laser treatments use fractionated beams to treat columns of skin rather than whole areas. The benefits of this new technique include a much welcomed shorter recovery time and less patient discomfort during the procedure. When deciding to do a treatment such as Total FX or Active FX, you should expect to be topically numbed and possibly given something to help you relax. Men sometimes, need a little more prep time for numbing due to thicker skin. Both men and women see excellent results. If you are wanting to get that next level result, then choosing the Total FX laser will really go deep into the dermis to stimulate and boost your collagen production even further. Areas most treated in patients are face, neck, chest, hands and knees. Are lasers really the way to go? “In some patients the results are really fantastic, the body responds really well and our patients look up to 5 years younger!” says Dr. Abrishamy There are a few key recommendations Dr. Abrishamy would suggest for people seeking out laser treatments. Schedule a consult to see if you are a candidate, make sure you have no plans to be in the sun for at least 4-6 weeks, review your aftercare plan carefully for maximum benefits of your laser treatment. Laser treatments are fantastic for those who have the time to commit to recovery. The Active FX has about a five day minimal down time, whereas the Total FX would possibly take a week of downtime. It is recommended healing skin be kept moist with whatever your provider has suggested for recovery. “Half the battle in achieving best results is making sure the patient is resting and following aftercare treatment instructions to the letter,” states Dr. Abrishamy. Men should also consider doing their necks and in some cases their chests depending on desired results. This helps with tech neck and tightening of the aging jawline too. Downtimes can vary on neck and chest. It’s best to seek the advice of your specialist for finite details of the procedure. The cost varies on areas chosen to treat from $2,500-$4,500. Dr. Abrishamy considers these treatments a one time treatment, but if you are looking to maintain a gold standard level of restoring your skin, then you could do a Active or Total FX treatment every 2-5 years. A perfect way to boost your collagen and keep yourself looking great for years to come. Now thats a goal worth achieving. www.Clearmd.com
