By Anthony Simmons Hello Key Clubbers, Welcome to rally season. Over the next four to six weeks you will all have the opportunity to attend a Divisional Rally I only have two words for you - GO! Rally is an amazing experience. Rally is your chance to meet and connect with other Key Club members in your division. It’s also a time to learn more about key club, get ideas for service projects and fundraisers, and a time to learn how to improve your club and your leadership skills. Rally is also a great chance to enjoy being a Key Clubber. Whether it is a dance contest, ice breakers, or karaoke, you are sure to have fun! Do you have friends that are not sure they want to join Key Club? Take them to rally! Show them how much fun it can be to belong to the world's largest student led service organization! So go, learn, be motivated, and ... Have Fun! See you there!

By Jean Benoit Greetings Key Clubbers, As your club year gets ramped up, one of the best things you can do to help sustain your club is to attend the regional fall rallies. Rallies are fun, educational events led by the District's Lt. Governors. At each of the rallies there will be forums on officer training, project management, public speaking, and resume building. There will be games, contests, service projects, and food (of course!). This is an opportunity to connect with other clubs, the information you'll be able to bring back, and the opportunity to meet area Kiwanians who can help build a stronger club for your home school. Attending the fall rallies is something I always look forward to; unfortunately, I had a serious bicycle crash this week--a dog kamikazed into my front wheel. The dog is fine, but my knee is not and I am unable to travel for the next six weeks. So I hope you are able to attend and enjoy the rallies in my place!!

Give us one week to change your life forever. Breakthrough is a service immersion program created for Key Club members who have served in leadership positions within their club, high school or community. During this week, students will learn the importance of service to people and communities, gain an understanding of the legacy it leaves and reflect on the various service experiences they’ve had in their lives and how it has changed and shaped them as individuals. Along the way, we hope to instill in them a lifelong passion for serving others and improving the world.

January 1–7, 2018 l

Miami, FL 40 students

l

New Orleans, LA 20 students

Applications will be available this fall at keyclub.org/breakthrough Breakthrough is a grant-funded program. Participants are only responsible for travel costs, less a $150 travel stipend to apply toward their travel expenses. All other costs, including lodging and meals, are funded through the grant.

15

Breakthrough gives students an opportunity to: • Serve others in an urban environment. • Learn from business, social service and political leaders. • Develop a better understanding of who they are as individuals. • Understand the legacy they are leaving on their school, community and world.
