Fall Rally & Officer Training: “Knowledge is power.”- Francis Bacon

Fall Rally: Are you interested in meeting new members and making new friends outside of your division? Want to see other Key Club members that do service just like you? If you do then Fall Rally is the place for you! Fall Rally is a celebration of Key Club for the new year that open up to everyone to join. It is an informative event where new goals and new service projects are presented. Fall Rally consists of all types of Key Club members, officers, and general members alike are encouraged to attend! Fall Rally also includes a guest speaker. Kiwanis members and club advisors are welcome and invited as well. This is for a Lieutenant Governor’s whole division, not just his or her own home club, so everyone can attend. Fall Rally is for each division is held throughout the month of September and October, so sign up and join us at Fall Rally!

Officer Training: Officer training helped many officers understand and familiarize their position and what they should do to promote a better Key Club. Officer training had many fun and helpful activities such as forums and icebreakers that would later assist them in their office position. If you did not attend officer training, fall rally would be a great opportunity to learn more from other clubs around you and your own club as well!

For more information, you can contact your lieutenant governor!

Service Projects: As the coronavirus pandemic continues to increase in some areas and impact more people around the globe, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is a great way to help children in your community. UNICEF is implementing a virtual Trick-or-Treat to help children who need help through the month of October, you can add purpose to Halloween by collecting lifesaving donations for UNICEF virtually.

Key club members attending King Kekaulike High School in Maui, Hawaii were startled when they discovered alarming rates of alcohol abuse, drug, and suicide in their community. The issues coincided with a lack of meaningful conversation and an abundance of time spent on electronic devices. Club members decided to make a change in their community, so they applied for a Youth Opportunity Fund grant through the Kiwanis Children’s Fund to connect with the MyIntent Project, which helps people engage with their communities and live with intent.

Suicide is the second–leading cause of death for young people. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported one in four young adults say they’ve considered suicide in the past month due to Covid-19 and creating a supportive environment is vital in suicide prevention.

important dates & Information YOUTH OPPORTUNITES FUND GRANT The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is a fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses earned interest to support Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service. Any club or member can apply, and there is only ONE funding cycle per year.

KIWANIS ONE DAY Kiwanis club members around the world gather on the fourth Saturday in October — a day set aside for clubs to work together to better their communities. It’s also been a day when club members invite friends and family to join them in a project that can improve a community.

KIWANIS YOUTH PROTECTION WEEK Nothing is more important than the safety of the children Kiwanis serves. That’s why Kiwanis International dedicates a week each year to youth protection. In 2020, Youth Protection week is October 5-9, giving Kiwanis clubs the opportunity to conduct important youth protection training and evaluate the club’s compliance.

Key Club Week: Key Club Week is the opportunity to show your community what

.

,

Key Club is truly about Each day places an emphasis on service to

,

,

.

promote Key Club within our homes schools and communities

Monday: Show your K! - Show people what Key Club is all about! Spread the word by wearing Key Club gear and publicizing Key Club Week in local stores, on your school website, in community newspapers — even on a door. Tuesday: Kudos to the key players! - Personally thank all the Key Club supporters you know — teachers, advisors and other key players. Write thank-you notes, host an appreciation dinner or do something uniquely your own style to recognize the contributions of these special people. Wednesday: Dare to Care! - Key Club has three preferred partners — UNICEF, March of Dimes and Children’s Miracle Network. Take time to focus on service projects that help support these causes, such as making non-slip socks or capes for your local CMN hospital. Thursday: Random acts of Kindness! - A smile goes a long way. Spread happiness throughout your school by implementing little random acts of kindness, such as leaving cards with inspirational messages on every student’s locker or just simply holding the door for someone else. Friday: Connect the Ks! - Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world and is a member of the Kiwanis family. Celebrate the entire family of Kiwanis by getting the whole gang involved. Connect with local Kiwanis, Circle K International, Builders, K-Kids or Aktion clubs and team up for a joint service project.

Outstanding Clubs: Baton Rouge Magnet High School Key Club: The club of the month is Baton Rouge Magnet High School’s Key club. This club has shown that not even a pandemic can’t stop service. Also, members and officers of this club have attended all three division 8A DCM‘s and participated in the division wide service project.

This is Baton Rouge Magnet

Byrd High School’s Key Club: Byrd High School’s Key Club located in Shreveport, Louisiana, of Division 9 accomplished several activities throughout the month. Byrd High School’s Key Club we’re present at all DCM’s and PCM’s. They also prepared to sponsor for the hurricane Laura relief drive for lake Charles.

A shout out to these two clubs for your contribution towards service and the impact you made throughout your division and upon the community. Your hard work and contribution proved that the pandemic is not even an excuse to not get your service hours in!
