By Anna Kate Broussard It’s been a busy Holiday season here in LaMissTenn! I have loved hearing from all of our presidents about the awesome service projects that are taking place to spread some warmth and cheer amidst all this cold weather. Keep up the great work!! If your club has not yet participated in a service project for our third quarter focus which is the vulnerable, hurry up and do so before the end of January!! Some ways your club can reach out to the vulnerable members of our communities include visiting the pets at the humane society, hosting a suicide awareness campaign, and stuffing comfort bags with socks, notes, and chocolates for people who are sick in the hospital.

Also, do not forget that the time has come to elect club officers! According to Bylaws, each club should have candidates give speeches for the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer and then allow members to cast votes. Newly Elected Officers should attend the district leadership training conference in Hammond, Louisiana on February 24th. Enjoy carnival season! Remember to be safe and save your Mardi Gras Beads to donate to STARC!

By Jean Benoit Greetings Key Clubbers: It's amazing how quickly time passes! It seems like the school year just got started and here we are, already almost a month into 2018, And what a year 2018 promises to be!! The Key Club year has already gotten off to an amazing start with the wildly successful New Orleans Breakthrough Program. Key Clubbers came from across the country to participate in a service immersion weekend in New Orleans. In addition to this, 2018 is LAMISSTENN's 75th Anniversary! We will be kicking our year long celebration with Officer Training at Hammond High on February 24. This is a day of club building, skill sharpening, Key Club fun geared to new, returning, or potential officers. March will bring Divisional Lt. Governor Elections. In April, we will be celebrating a successful year of service in Baton Rouge at our annual District Convention. And in July, we will be traveling to Chicago, Illinois for the International Convention. All of these promise to be outstanding events and we hope to see you there!!

By Anthony Simmons Hello Key Clubbers, And Happy New Year of Service. This is the time to search your club for new and fresh leadership. Look at your members from a fresh perspective. Is there a freshman that seems shy but is extremely organized? Is there a member who is excited to be part of service projects and wants to do more? Is there someone that volunteers to help plan new projects? These are your future leaders. Send these people to Leadership Training in February. Your club will be energized as they develop into great leaders and everyone will benefit. Are you a person with a desire to lead on a larger scale? Come to Leadership Training and learn how you can serve on the District or International level. Key Club develops leadership and we want to help you serve.

By Madison Liner Governor's Project Empowerment Through Education Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which can be used to change the world. Each year the Governor of the Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee Key Club District develops a focus service initiative referred to as the Governor's Project. Each club in our District is encouraged to participate in this initiative. This year, our Governor Anna Kate Broussard chose 'Empowerment through Education,' a project focused on education and the power of learning to improve lives and support stronger communities. A strong education helps lead youth into a steady, safe, and financially secure lives while building strong, democratic societies. Most of us sadly taken our education and learning opportunities for granted. By participating in this project, your club can support those who are unable to receive any sort of education. Whether it is time, talent, or financial support, your club an help to empower children through education. All clubs that participate in any sort of service to help the Governor's Project will be recognized and awarded at this year's District Convention. Along with the newsletter, I attached the Empowerment through Education PDF in which Anna Kate goes through the logistics and service project ideas, as well as included a project completion form for those who participated in the project. I hope at District Convention that all of the clubs in our Division will have participated 100%, whether it's raising money through a bake sale, collecting school supplies, or even tutoring other students. Let's help empower children through education!

By Sebastian Canales This year Melvin Brown, and Myself had the opportunity of attending a one week long service immersion program in New Orleans, LA. Rory Japser from Riverdale High had the opportunity to attend Breakthrough in Miami, Fl. The Breakthrough program was started last year, offering it to 20 Key Clubbers. This year the programed picked 20 students for New Orleans and 60 for Miami. 150 people applied for this amazing program. Breakthrough offers Key Clubbers from all over the world the opportunity to explore the culture of other communities as well as earn over 24 hours of service hours! I had the opportunity of helping out the New Orleans Community by working at food pantries, helping out the special needs, and restoring a garden. I strongly encourage each and everyone of you to apply for breakthrough 2019. It truly was something to remember. I made so many friends from all around the world. Breakthrough really does change your life and you build bonds with these people that will last a life time!

By Shana Bourgeois Do you plan on running for office in Key Club? If so, there are tons of benefits! Running for higher office in Key Club helps expand your leadership skills, teach you important skills for life outside of high school, and amplifies your community service to the next level. When making the decision to run for an office in Key Club, there are questions you must ask yourself. Do you want to hold an office on the District level? District offices are Governor, Secretary-Treasurer, or Lieutenant Governor. Governor oversees the entire District as well as the Secretary-Treasurer. The Lieutenant Governor oversees each Division. Do you want to hold an office on the International level? If you are thinking about the International level of Key Club, the positions available are: President, Vice President, and International Trustees. The International President oversees all active Key Clubs with the assistance of the Vice President. Each International Trustee has been appointed to 2-3 Districts to help oversee and share International Information with the District Governors. Running for higher office in Key Club is an amazing experience for every Key Clubber, but you have to be willing to dedicate your time and service. Whichever office you choose, Key Clubbers depend on you to get important information about Key Club dues, events, and service opportunities.

This is a new year for a new assortment of service projects! While every club has those time-tested and true projects, this upcoming year is a great time to reach across new boundaries. Many of the easiest ways to find out where else you can volunteer or set up a new project is with your city departments. Between the public affairs office, police department, and local event coordinator, all that's left is getting your club in on the action! There are many members joining events for a simple reason. The best thing to motivate people is help them establish a connection from their hours of service to depositing into another's life. Many organizations are eager to have volunteers to join and would love to talk about the impact they make. Besides inviting these guest speakers, talking to your Lieutenant Governor is a great thing to do. Hope you have a great New Year alongside the LaMissTenn District! Hopefully, our District can read this and add one more thing to their New Year's list. Yours in Service, Esmond Tsang
