Hello Key Clubbers, February is the season of valentines, chocolate, and cards. For Key Club, it is also the season of leadership. I can't think of a better way to show your love for your club and your community than to choose leaders who will guide your members well in the coming year of service. So find the leaders in your club. Give them your vote, give them your support, and get them ready for a great year of service. I hope to see your smiling faces in Hammond for Leadership Training! Oh, and did I mention District Convention? Get ready for fun, recognition, and service! Happy Valentines

Hey LaMissTenn!! I can’t believe that it’s already February!! With Mardi Gras and Valentines celebrations this month always reminds me of our purpose in Key Club: spreading love and joy in our home communities! Even though Mardi Gras is coming to an end, and Valentines is just one day, I hope that all our clubs continue carry this joyful spirit of pure love into the rest of our service projects this year! With all the negativity flooding the news there is a need for the service of our key clubs now more than ever. I’m so excited to see many of you at leadership training later this month and meet all of our newly elected officers. Please don’t be afraid to approach me with questions, concerns, or ideasto make our district better...I LOVE hearing from you!

IHOP INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PANCAKES Do you love pancakes? Do you love supporting a worthy cause? IHOP has partnered up with Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, one of Key Club’s preferred charities, to host a special event to raise donations for local hospitals. On February 28, 2018, you can support CMNH while appreciate a free stack of warm, buttermilk pancakes. IHOP is serving guests free pancakes all day to promote the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital and raise money for this organization. Although it is not required to donate, all funds that are raised on this day are given to local children’s hospitals. Apart from funding the children’s hospital, this day also bring awareness to these outstanding organizations and the causes they advocate for. What’s a better way to celebrate National Pancake Day rather than chowing down on delicious pancakes and supporting a phenomenal cause?

I believe that everyone has their own reason to fall in love with Key Club. Maybe it’s the service projects we do or the craziness some of us get into during club meetings. For me, the reason I love this organization the most, which I’m pretty sure no one can disagree with, is the tremendously amazing support system it boasts. I’ve met so many true friends through Key Club and have gotten to meet so many amazing and inspirational human beings; being a part of this organization has allowed me to open my heart a little more and honestly enjoy service and leadership. The warmth of the community caught me off guard, and I absolutely love it.

Happiness Through a Sheet of Paper

“Caring— our way of life.” This motto that every school’s Key Club and member follow is the basis of Key Club International. The strive to assist others and make a difference in the community is at the heart of each member, and is what makes Key Club members so special. The way that members are able to fulfill this desire to serve is through service projects and community outreach. Service projects are the link between a member and their community. They allow a member to make a real difference in the world, to reflect on their own personal life and to grow from it. At Ponchatoula High School, we aim to give as many of these opportunities to our members as possible, and in the most fun way too. Recently, we were able to decorate door hangers for the local nursing home with a seasonal message on it, and deliver it to the nursing home! We held a meeting with all the members to let them create these door hangers, which were as simple as a piece of large construction paper, and gave them some ideas of what to put on it. The officers had the idea to do this each season to keep this project an annual one, and since it cost little to nothing, it was very easy to carry out. By doing this project, it not only gave a great opportunity to light up an elderly person’s day, but it gave the members a chance to interact with older folk who may not get to talk to many people during their stay at the home. A project as easy and simple as this one, which we titled “Happiness Through a Sheet of Paper”, can be the very thing that gets your club more active and involved!
