By Anthony Simmons Hello Key Clubbers, I hope everyone had a festive, informative, and fun Key Club Week. Now is the time to do what you do best; service. The Quarterly Projects are now focusing on helping the vulnerable; the homeless, people in nursing homes, disadvantaged children. What better time to help these groups than during the holiday season? So many people feel especially alone and vulnerable at this time of year, and YOU can be the difference in their holiday, and their lives. So … Go – into your community and find the people who need you most; Invest – your time to make something, or raise money to buy something that will brighten someone’s day; Visit – be the friend someone needs, or the person that makes someone feel loved; Everyone – needs to be loved, so remember to show your love to your club members and your family; You will find that when you GIVE, your life and your holiday will be brighter! So … Be Key Clubbers; Give, Serve, Care.

By Sebastian Canales Greetings Key Clubbers! Key Club week has just past and may I say what a great success it was. Schools all over our great district participated in an entire week dedicated to Key Club. Key Club week was November 6- 10 and is an annual week long event dedicated to this amazing organization. If you weren’t aware of the days here they are: Monday- Show your K, Tuesday- Kudos to the Key Players, Wednesday Dare to Care, Thursday- Random Acts of Kindness, and Friday- Connect the K. So many schools went out and performed service projects in their community and the entire LaMissTenn board received sweet messages from Key Clubbers in our district. This week was truly one to remember. If your home club hasn’t participated in Key Club week, we strongly urge y’all to plan something for the 2018 year! Key Club week is a great way to recruit members and show your school what Key Club is all about!

By Brook Covell The club of the month is Acadiana Homeschool from Division 7a. So far this school year they have been involved with St. Jude Children Hospital, Operation Christmas Child, and their local Kiwanis Club. They have been working very hard to raise money for St. Judes. All of their hard work paid off with a whopping 10, 342.00 dollars for children at the hospital. On Kiwanis One Day they hosted a Veterans day project and a service honoring Veterans. Some of their smaller projects they did this year was working the St. Martinville Pepper Fest, the local food bank, and playing bingo at the nursing home. They have completed 1,563 hours of service and participated in Key Club week. Their outstanding service has make them stick out from other clubs. Congratulations on making club of the month and keep up the good work!

Veterans Appreciation Ceremony This year for our Kiwanis One Day, we decided to go to our local veterans’ cemetery. We cleaned the graves, put out over 800 American flags throughout the cemetery, and then invited as many veterans as we could find for a ceremony afterwards. We have a phenomenal turn out! There were five Key Clubs, one Circle K, one Builders Club, four Kiwanis Clubs, and two other organizations not in the k-family. There was even a TV station there! We had some amazing special guest who showed up, which included: Gary Graham (past Kiwanis LaMissTenn Governor), Brook Covell (Division 7A LTG), Mike Francis (District 4 Public Service Commissioner), Nathan White (101 st Airborne Chaplain Major, currently stationed at the Pentagon!), and many more! The veterans were very happy to see so many people who cared about them. One of veterans was so moved, that he actually began to cry. The weather was perfect, and there was nothing that we would have changed about it! Thank you to all the people who came and worked!

For Presidents, officers, and even advisors, meetings can be a tough task to plan and get through. When school work and activities hit you head on, things like making an agenda or setting up a date can slip your mind. Here are some helpful broken down steps for Presidents on how to conduct and improve your meetings. 1. Plan in advance. Make sure when you notify your members about a meeting that you give them at least a two week notice. Your members need time to plan out their week and see if things conflict. If you send a notice the day before, you can bet that not many people will show up to your meeting. 2. Make an agenda. Whether it's paper or electronic, agendas are so helpful for members and even officers to look back on to see what's coming up. Try to make your agenda about a week in advance from the meeting date. This will make it easier for you to add in last minute service opportunities or make any changes necessary. 3. Prepare your officers. During meetings, the President mostly takes over and does everything. However, every officer should have some sort of role in your meeting. Try to hold an officer meeting the day before the meeting and give everyone a role in the meeting. It'll make everything easier for you and give them experience in running meetings and in case you're not there. 4. Conduct the meeting. Make sure to speak loud and clear to your members. Speak with enthusiasm about the projects you need volunteers for. Make sure your officers are taking care of their roles, whether it's speaking or taking minutes. Everyone should have a role in your meetings and feel included. 5. Bonus! Do a service project. Do you feel that your meetings are somewhat boring, and need more interaction? Try doing a service project. Making dog toys, writing care cards, and braiding bracelets are just some of many short service projects that are great for meetings. Check the Key Club website or even Pinterest for more ideas! Meetings aren't as stressful as they may seem. With these helpful steps and some tips from your predecessor, you're sure to conduct an informational and fun meeting!

By Madison Liner At some point in our lives, we are all in the "new kid" position, whether it's at a new school, a new neighborhood, or even a new club. I'm sure we all remember the first day we joined Key Club, and that intimidating and overwhelming feeling we got when we saw the amount of meetings, service projects, and fundraisers that would take place in the year. Whether you're just starting or ending your Key Club experience, here are some ways to improve your time in the largest service program for high school students. Stay on Task. When you're in a club with so many dates to remember, it's important to stay focused and on task about when things are taking place. Make sure to keep track of what projects are going on, which ones you signed up for, and upcoming ones, too. Get to Know your Members. Even if you're not the President or an officer, it's still a good idea to get to know the other members in the club. Don't stick with the same crowd all the time. Introduce yourself and try to plan a service project together. Everyone in Key Club has at least one common interest, which is the love of serving their homes, schools, and communities. Be Involved. In any club you join, you want to be able to give it your all and show what abilities you have. Make sure to be involved in lots of service projects and fundraisers during your time in Key Club. Once you become active within the club, you'll really see how easy and enjoyable doing service with others is. All in all, your club experience is what you make it. If you're not involved in your the club, what's the point in joining? Make your Key Club experience one to remember. You won't regret it!
