Governor's Project Every year the District Governor picks an area of service he would like the entire District to participate in which is referred to as the Governor's Project. The current District Governor, Max Hailey has outlined his plan for this year's Governor's project below.

Hello Louisiana–Mississippi–W. Tennessee District Key Clubbers

This year I’ve broken the Governor’s Project into two separate parts. One part of the Governor’s Project this year will be focused on fundraising money to build wells and to provide clean water to those who do not have access in Jamaica, which is a fellow Key Club District. Although Thirst Project is a partner organization with Key Club International, they mainly focus in the western hemisphere, which excludes Jamaica from their services. All of the money from Spring Rallies, Fall Officer Trainings, and DCON will go towards those areas in need in Jamaica. Your Lieutenant Governors will be working with their clubs and divisions to put together fundraisers that benefit this cause. Please join us in our fight to provide a basic life necessity to our Key Club family.

11

The other part of the Governor’s Project is children and education. The future of our country and organization lies in the hands of children. As you all might be able to tell, youth and children are my biggest passion and something that I truly care about. I have the pleasure of volunteering at the after-school program in downtown Ponchatoula each weekday during the school year. Every day 40 to 50 kids come in and need help with math, science, and reading—something that they cannot get help at home due to the circumstances in which they have been put in. These young students have truly changed my life and without them, I would not be in the position I am today to give back to them. They have made me laugh, cry, and they are a constant reminder to enjoy the things that I sometimes take for granted. I hope you all can join me in this year of service and focus on giving back to the youth and children of your community. These children need us and it is my mission to give back to every child that I can. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all give back to the children of your community through tutoring programs, school reading programs, and school visits.

Yours in Service, Max Hailey District Governor Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District of Key Club International governor.lmtkc@gmail.com maxhaileykc@gmail.com

BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE As school begins, there are always students who can't afford school supplies, but this is no reason for them to go with out. Collecting school supplies in front of your school as well as stores can help you correct this issue. This project would also be a great way to get involved with the Governor's Project as well as

August, September, and October Quarterly service project which focuses on school involvement. the

CLEAN UP Whether it is at a park, beach, or school campus, a cleanup is always a simple and cost efficient way to beautify your community. This project can be utilized at both the club and divisional level. All you need are plenty of garbage bags and willing volunteers.

This project also involves your

club in the quarterly service project of

June, and July which focuses on the environment.

FACULTY APPRECIATION Everyday hundreds of school employees work together to educate even more children. These people deserve to be shown a sign of appreciation from the people they do all of this for, their students.

There are many different ways to show

your appreciation,

for example,

your club could

organize a free lunch for school faculty, goodie bags,

hand out

or write handwritten thank you notes

to school faculty members. No matter how you show your appreciation,

your club is performing a

much needed service while participating in the

August, September and October quarterly service project which emphasizes school involvement.

Seasonal Fundraisers

CAR WASH As one of the most classic fundraisers,

you can't

go wrong with a car wash. It requires minimal funds to start and can generate hundreds of dollars in one day. Busy corners are the prime spot to hold a car wash.

Make sure to call

businesses in advance to ask permission to use their parking lot. You can increase profits by having your car wash on a weekend when there is more traffic.

SELL CANDY There are tons of places you can now buy fundraising candy such as World's Finest Chocolate and Freedom Fundraising. This type of fundraiser is highly profitable and can be a great success if your club has a good member base; however, fundraising candy has to be bought upfront,

which means a high initial

costs.

SELL COKES Coke sales have become very popular because of the high demand for Coke products. This fundraiser has no upfront costs because all products are ordered ahead of time. Members take orders and money from customers before the products are ordered. Customers can then pick up their products from the Coke truck that will deliver the products to a place of your clubs specification.

Division 7b s Club Spotlight goes to Vandebilt Catholic High School. Vandebilt s club s board all showed up to my DCM and shared great ideas. Vandebilt has also jumped in to help save events when they were asked at the last minute.

Club of the Division 12: Barbe High School The Club of the Month for Division 12 is Barbe High School, for showing dedication over the summer months and attending the first two DCM’s. This year is looking bright already for them, and they bring great ideas to the table.

Club of the Division 13a: Hammond High Magnet School The Club of the Division is Hammond High Magnet School. Every year, in addition to various other service projects, HHMS partners with the Tangi Humane Society, in addition to partnering with the Kiwanis for the Tour de Tangi and the Strawberry Festival.

Club of the Division 13b: St. Scholastica Academy St. Scholastica Academy's Key Club is doing such a great job of being ahead of the game. They have hardworking and dedicated officers who will lead the club to new heights.

Club of the Division 14a: D'lberville High School This spotlight shines on Key Club at D’Iberville High School. Three members from this club volunteered at the Hiller Park Renaissance Garden. In relation, the District’s quarterly service project was themed “the environment.” After three hours of service, these members accomplished the goal of helping others and bettering the community.

15

MOUNT CARMEL ACADEMY The club of the month for Division 4A is Mount Carmel Academy. This month the club participated in a golf tournament run by their sponsoring Kiwanis club, the Dawn Busters. Key Clubbers served food to the golfers, helped make the tournament run smoothly and cleaned up at the end of the tournament. Their service helped raise money for the Rewards for Reading program that their Kiwanis sponsors. Also, during the month of June, the officers of this club had an officer meeting to discuss their ideas for this next Key Club year. They discussed social media ideas, membership ideas, and much more! Thanks for your service Mount Carmel Key Club!

KARRÂ

Edna Karr Key Club has been chosen as the club to receive a spotlight on their service endeavors because of their involvement in the Special Olympics. This project opened the eyes of many of its participants to see disabilities in a new light This project was everything a good project should be. It performed a service to the community, helped members discover things about themselves as well as the world around them, and was clearly fun to complete based on the smiling faces of the volunteers as well as the Olympians.

DISTRICT CONVENTION REVIEW On April 5, 2019, Key Club members from all over the district came together in Natchez, Mississippi to celebrate another successful service year. There were many amazing speakers throughout the weekend including the International Director, Greg Stowers. Members also attended several forums with choices such as officer trainings, icebreakers, and calligraphy. Clubs and members were also awarded for their talent and service by the presentation of several trophies, scholarship, and certificates. The night of April 6 ended with the dance where quite a few members got to show off their moves.

17

The 2018 - 2019 District Board threw a great convention, but the time came for a new batch of high school servant leaders to step up and take their place, and at the Governor's Breakfast we did just that as the 2019 - 2020 District Board took their place at the table. We also listened to our 2018-2019 District Governor, Jacob Duplantis, give his outgoing speech and announce our 20192020 District Governor, Max Hailey. Whether it was your first DCON or your last, the LaMissTenn District Convention of 2019 proved that Key Club and its members truly are the eighth wonder of the world.

18

International Convention Review On July 1, 2019, LaMissTenn District Key Club members boarded a plane at 6:00 am to embark on a journey to Key Club International Convention in Baltimore, Maryland. Just a few short hours later, they landed at Baltimore Washington International Airport. They then rode over to D.C. where they spent the day visiting monuments and museums.

While there the Division 11 Lieutenant Governor, Storm Boyett, and the Division 10 Lieutenant Governor, Marcus Davis, decided to recreate some of the beautiful art they found themselves surrounded in at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

The next day, the group left D.C. for Baltimore where they toured a number of ships, discovered Lime scooters, and took a harbor cruise. The group of ships they toured included a Coast Guard ship, The Constellation, and the Chesapeake. The discovery of the Lime scooters by the group was unplanned, but it ended up being one of the best parts of the trip.

19

On July 3, the group split up to take small group tours. Options included Fort McHenry, Edgar Allen Poe's burial site, Oriole Stadium, and many more. Convention began that evening with the meet and greet. The LaMissTenn spirit theme was Who Dat Nation, so everyone dressed in Saints fan attire.

The Fourth of July started with the International President, Emily Rice calling to order the convention during the opening session. Everyone then proceeded to forums. A portion of the LaMissTenn group along with Jean Claude the crawfish, our District Mascot, ended up in the Key to Karaoke forum where they sang "Single Ladies."

Later that evening a portion of the group went to the lemonade stand fundraiser of three small boys on a street corner. The boys hadn't been receiving much business, so a large portion of the LaMissTenn tour group went to visit their stand. By the time everyone in the group had purchased a few items, the boys were nearly sold out and had huge smiles on their faces.

20

That night the LaMissTenn group went to the harbor to watch some extraordinary fireworks over the water. While there several people took advantage of the photo opportunity such as the group shown to the right. July 5th started with more forums. All District officers who attended International Convention received training for their position on this day. While in the Webmaster forum, Kailey Lipginski and Alexis Thibideaux got to meet the 2019-2020 Kiwanis International President, Daniel Vigneron. Later in the evening, caucausing began. During caucusing, the group was allowed to question potential International Board member canididates. July 6th started on an eventful note as a portion of the LaMissTenn group happened to run into Switched at Birth star Vanessa Mararo, who is also an avid supporter of Thirst Project. Convention came to a close that night as the new International Board was inducted. The Closing session was then followed by a dance where certain members of the group crowd surfed.

On July 7th, which was the last day LaMissTenn spent in Baltimore, the group went to the Terrapin Adventure Park. While there, the group ziplined, maneuvered through a ropes course, and took rides on a giant swing that wouldn't be found at your average playground. Everyone then went home with new lifelong memories.
