from burnout to new beginnings Dr. Lindsey Mashburn is the owner of South Lake Women’s Healthcare, a gynecological practice in Cornelius. Lindsey graduated from North Mecklenburg High School and the College of Charleston, attended medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and completed her residency at Wake Forest University. After realizing in medical school that she loved obstetrics and gynecology more than her focus of neurology, Lindsey changed paths. However, after being on call every third night and trying to be supermom, she began to struggle with the workload. In fact, she states that over half of OB/ GYN physicians experience burnout. She was at a crossroads and needed to make a change in her life. A C O R N E L I U S N AT I V E ,
Lindsey turned to her strong faith to find a solution. “After lots of prayer and soul searching,” she explains, “I decided to leave the obstetrics side of medicine and concentrate only on the gynecology side.” It was a tough decision for her, but realizing there was a real need for the specific care of women’s health outside of childbirth, Lindsey found her niche. “I am able to schedule more time with my patients and not get called away for deliveries,” she smiles. Lindsey also focuses on educating her patients on the processes their bodies are going through during the menopausal transition. “There is so much more to menopause than hot flashes,” she winks. Being a native, Lindsey already had a love for the Lake Norman area; however, after becoming a business owner, her appreciation grew. “There is a great sense of community here as a small business owner,” she says. “From the LKN Chamber, to the Lake Norman Small Business Network and the Executive Women of Lake Norman, there is a great business networking system in the lake area.” In her free time, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her husband, Andrew, and children, Tallon and Kate. You’ll often find the family on the lake—boating, wakeboarding, wake surfing, and water skiing. Lindsey unwinds by doing crafts and other artsy things as well

as being actively involved in their church. Lindsey and Andrew also enjoy travel. “One of my favorite places was Lake Powell on the border of Arizona and Utah. It’s like a miniature Grand Canyon filled with water!” Additionally, Lindsey and her husband recently completed a running and biking tour of San Francisco and enjoyed an exciting excursion at 27 Waterfalls in the Dominican Republic. With all the things she enjoys, Lindsey admits that helping people is her real passion in life.
“I love to help people achieve a healthier lifestyle and better quality of life,” she states. Lindsey’s approach to healthcare is holistic and patientcentered. “Healthcare is not one-sizefits-all,” the good doctor continues. “I try to understand where each patient is coming from and really understand them as an individual.” Inspired by many people in her life, Lindsey’s mother’s words of advice are what she tries to live by: “Everyone you meet knows something you don’t … learn from them! them!”
